The brunette singing lead is older sister Ann Wilson and the blonde playing rhythm guitar and singing harmonies is her younger sister Nancy. This song was the first single from Heart's third album Little Queen, the first for their new label Portrait (a Columbia/CBS subsidiary) after recording their first two for Vancouver, BC-based independent Mushroom Records. "Barracuda" refers to the two labels' execs who went to court over the rights to their then-still-unreleased second album. I'm not a musician or sound engineer, so even 45 years later I can't explain how their guitarist simultaneously plays that keyboard, but the technology used is all analog or acoustic with no auto tuned vocals (not invented yet) or sound compression in post-production. Just a live studio performance recorded and mixed on (probably) 16 tracks of analog magnetic tape. Ann and Nancy are fantastic singers and musicians backed by an equally-talented band. Thanks for picking this song but in the future try not to pause the music you're reacting to. You can always go back and relisten as you dissect different parts of a song. Otherwise, it's a pleasure watching someone younger react to music older generations grew up or came of age with. The 1970s were an especially good decade for rock music, and it's sad you weren't exposed to it as a child the way I was exposed to the jazz and rock music of the 1940s and 1950s that led to The Beatles and Rolling Stones.

I've heard the single eleventy-billion times and also watched reactions to the video with the live audio. If you watch Ann's mouth very closely, you can see that it doesn't exactly match the audio. The edge in Ann's voice came from the personal experiences that inspired the song. Their first label ran an ad implying that the sisters were close in perverted way. Then, after a show, some radio guy came up to Ann and asked how her "lover" was doing, which quite rightly ticked her off when she realized he was talking about Nancy. Still angry, she wrote the lyrics in her hotel room that night.

Heart is so talented! For a COMPLETE change up, you should react to Dog and Butterfly! My favorite of theirs. Then These Dreams is amazing too. 9 ys ago Ann and Nancy did a tribute to Led Zeppelin that was OOTW!

I don't know what songs you know by Heart, but you have to check all 498 of their best ones😂. I will tell you the best to start with. "Cook with Fire" (not about cooking dinner), "Sing Child," ( not about children singing), "White Lightning and Wine" ( this one is about what it sounds like), "Love Alive". I'll tell you the other 493 later. Most of these are best on the original recordings. Some originals are Live recordings. Have fun. I grew up in the same city as Ann and Nancy Wilson and in 1978 when I was 19, I partied with the drummer. It was Epic🤯

When I was a kid in the 90s "Black on Black" was the first song I heard from them and I fell in love. Her voice is as distinct and unique as there is.

Now that you've seen them when they were young, you need to see their performance of Stairway to Heaven for the Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Led Zeppelin from 2012. John Bonham's son played his father's drum kit for the performance as well. They closed down the house and NAILED the performance. You HAVE to watch the full version not the tv edit though.

Oh my gosh, I grew up listening to these two beautiful women!! In fact other than Pat Benetar, Heart were the ONLY women I actively listened to growing up. Still not a very big fan of female singers. Heart were awesome. Just wish I had been able to attend one of their concerts. Thanks for bringing back great memories!! (By the way, I met my husband in the fall of that year in 8th grade, telling g my age here, lol).

Howard Leese is the 2nd guitarist, and keyboard player. He's playing synths that, if you listen closely, you'll hear some spacy tones in the back. That's what he's adding on the keys there. I'm pretty sure he was the last early/original members of Heart that the Wilson sisters fired. He lasted into the 90's resurgence. Most didn't make it far into the 80's.

That synth Howard is playing is called a Mellotron. And it is capable of making many "weird" sound effects.

The Wilson sisters are Seattle girls like me ! Saw them live three times @ The Seattle Center Coliseum. Fabulous shows every time ! Ann wrote this song in protest to Studio executives spreading the disgusting rumor that the sisters were lovers. She was pissed ! As if to say, no F with me & my baby sister ! 🖕
