I think the pro level horns demand more from the player for sure which may be a great thing for someone that has more to give lol I think you and I are in the same boat!!
Very well explain it from the bottom of your heart I believe that the more you have the more you want never complete satisfied and like to keep experimenting it is a business matter until you decided what is best for you that definitely don’t have to be the same for all people thank you my friend
Great video! Thanks. I'm an "old" student and have been playing the unicorn 900 for eight years or so. Got mine from Trent as well. It leaks like a sieve, the lacquer is shot except the bell, BUT it plays like a beast. You've had your 916 a year now, if you're still playing it. So...are you better at it? Would you recommend getting one? Or is it just more horn than is needed? I don't want to fight with a new horn, so I was thinking, maybe just a sonic wash, time up and new lacquer. Thoughts? BTW, I also play guitar and have too many instruments. Lol
That totally resonates with me, I'm definitely a student horn player too! What do you think about whether a student horn can also limit your development, and how would you go about that? You mention ACB - I've been in touch with them, they pointed at the Manchester Brass Custom RL-GB and the Adams-ACB collaborative. Do you have any experience with those, how do they compare to the brasspire? (I saw that one on their website, peaked my curiosity and somehow I ended up on this video :)
I think ACB is a great company but as with anything, all of this is totally subjective, including my opinion.... I have tried at least 30 horns to date and have found most to be playable but some just have that "something" extra that make them feel "right" to me... not sure if I mentioned this in the video but I have 2 Brasspire Unicorns, same exact horn, one totally messed with and 1 totally stock and I like the one that someone messed with the best of all lol To be fair I have really come to love the 916 model and I can play it fine and it sounds wonderful but I could be totally OK with only the Frankenstein Unicorn if I had to have only 1 horn. To answer your question, I have not played the Manchester line nor anything (shockingly) from Adams, but I am certain that anything from Adams is outstanding, as I don't recall every seeing a bad review on them, though not sure what this "collaboration" is?

In the meantime, I agree with you it's more about working on yourself (technically and musically) that's what I like what you say about maybe having a horn you aspire to be able to play (happy to hear you've felt in love with the 916 model, that's motivating, and showing that while there's no shortcuts, things do happen!) - Thanks for your channel, I really enjoy your insights and approach.
Btw, anyone has any thoughts on reverse lead pipe vs standard in term of playability? I'm thinking the idea of more open vs more resistance horns - Is that even a thing?
@@javierojer7829 Reverse lead pipes tend to be slightly more open, but the two horns in this video have ovate tuning slides, which also tend to open up the blow a bit.
