I remember getting this for my brand new gameboy at the local store in Athens. Still have the complete copy of it, i was blown away by this game, couldn't believe the graphics and the sound ! Still plays great, and I just love to make some occasional speedruns. Best batman game ever for me !
I had this game when I was younger...and I agree with the description, the music is BADASS. It's like some unwritten rule that all Batman games must have awesome music!
Hello 5 years later :P I agree, even in Arkham Knight, the Opera music that plays when you are near one of the hanging bodies gives me chills it's so creepy
Damn, I played this a few times as a child and I always remembered the music from the first level. I didn't exactly know what Batman game it was but doing some research tonight led me here.
I like how they made Batman look like the Dark Knight Returns version. I also like how they made him have a lot of animation when he runs and jumps off the walls. He doesn't look stiff like in the animated series gb game. The only issue is collision detection. If they would have touched that up and maybe put more levels, this game would be near perfect.
I like how Dark Claw will swipe away batarangs that try to hit him from his rear, even if Batman is in front of him. He's making sure you don't cheapshot him this way.
The level where you fight the ninja that moves so fast the animation shows multiple frames of him as a kid was the coolest thing ever to me. I had never seen that before and i became obsessed with it in my drawings. I beat this game so many times as a kid and just never got tired of it.
I like how you were trying to be all technical against the Shogun Warrior at first and then suddenly decided that "punch him till I win" is also a legit strategy :D.
despite alot of people hating this game i actually quite enjoyed it maybe thats because im a huge sunsoft fan. i loved the music and grappling hook gimmick tbh tho if this game had more levels than just four aswell as have more levels designed around the bat hook, controls fixed up a bit, and actually have lives instead of continues this woulda been a classic gameboy game.
This brings me back. I remember being given a grey gameboy cartridge full of about 20 games, including this one, by my cousin as a gift, probably back in 1998 or 99 when I was only a little kid. I got years of fun out of it until I eventually grew out of playing my gameboy, but the music brings me right back, especially the song that plays during the final fight with the joker.
And I remember how excited I was when I finally managed to beat the joker after about 500 tries, and maybe a year or two later. Games were hard back then lol.
The gameplay could’ve been better. It was impossible to kill thugs without getting hit Atleast once. Too difficult for regular kids. The animated series game is so much better
@@miurasrpnt_v2 Holy cow, I thought it really warmed my heart that people still enjoy my old longplays, but here you are responding to me years and years later. Thumbs up to you. I'd pin this comment if I could but I don't have much say in the matter. Maybe check out my other longplays if you're interested. 😆
This game has the most awesome music. Luckily it has an easy to access sound test mode, otherwise I probably wouldn't have heard more than three songs...
That train level... I learn TODAY that you can hit those "glass" carts for hearts. I always thought of them as restaurant carts that the enemies were too fat to run on because they'd break through the ceiling... Cool.
It's a separate game from Return of the Joker on NES, which is actually known as Dynamite Batman... which is the best Batman game of them all, by the way.
maaan gargoyle's quest was awsome on the game boy, I will try out the NES sequel these days via emulator, and after that the demon's crest on the SNES!!! :-)
+alexouin3 Bionic Commando, Mega Man 3-5, Robocop 1 & 2, the first Batman on GB, Metal Masters, Battle Bull, ZAS... all of them would like a word with you.
Looking back at my childhood, i now consider this game to actually be pretty bad and i am surprised i endured its awfull madness. It sure had it's part in honing my gaming skills.
I’ve had this game for as long as i can remember, i found it in a box in my sisters room 10+ years ago. I still can’t beat it though, i get my ass handed to me by the third stage lol
As a kid I thought that the 1st boss was KGBeast, 2nd boss was Ra's in shogun's armour - due to league assassins being there... 3rd boss was Sportsmaster and the last boss was Joker himself.
I remember I was the first to discover that it's easier to waste all your batrangs before boss and just use punches to beat him because he can block batrangs but not melee.
I notice in almost every 2D Batman game he does the wall to wall jump. I always wondered where that was based on, as I never see him do that in movies and shows (I'm not a comic book reader, so I don't know if he also does this in the comics).
Well, he sure won't take the elevator, or stairs, so he has to find some way on top of buildings, especially those too high for his grappling gun to get him on top of.
not that bad for a gameboy game and sunsoft was one of the better game companies they made better games than ljn the music is good the sound ok gameplay not bad the graphics are alright overall i give this 7 batwings out of 10
Yeah, I honestly think that if the range of the punch, usefulness of the batarang, and hit detection in general were better the game would actually be pretty good.

Wow didn't play this for about 20 years but as I heard the music of stage 2 I still got the creeps and remembered it :D
I honestly thought it was Ra's in Samurai armor.
I remember my mom buying me this for my bday. Man I miss those old school Gameboy days
✅I know the feeling😀🥇
Same for me was the best present i was 7 years old im 31 now I don’t remember if finished the game such a big memories
We came from a long way. I feel so nostalgic. Loved to play this game on my gameboy color

AVGN had some serious struggle 😂
To be fair this game is really damn tricky. You can't play it like most action platformers. Also it sucks donkey shizz from a garden hose.
The music and sound effects in this game were so memorable. Everything worked really.
The level where you fight the ninja that moves so fast the animation shows multiple frames of him as a kid was the coolest thing ever to me. I had never seen that before and i became obsessed with it in my drawings. I beat this game so many times as a kid and just never got tired of it.
I simply loved this game so much!
I like how you were trying to be all technical against the Shogun Warrior at first and then suddenly decided that "punch him till I win" is also a legit strategy :D.
That's the long and short of this game (I'm the longplayer for this video). If you have enough HP, just go gorilla mode and smash everything.
Let’s speedrun one of the HNG ds games
Welcome to the gaming in the 90's, where games are hard as rock!
My advice is...
Try harder :p
Le meilleur jeux Batman sur gameboy...
I remember making Batman dance by pressing left and right over and over to the sick drum beats of this game.
Robert Johnson same lol

*The Joker's boss theme kinda reminds me of that sports arena anthem....you know...the one that starts off with "Y'all ready for this?"*
Thanks for uploading this. It was the only GB game my parents could afford at the time and I got so many great times out of it! Excellent post!
You have no idea how long it took me to realize you can wall jump. I remember being stuck on that first obstacle as a kid 😅
You're not alone.
Same here. I was about 7.

You never grow out of your Game Boy, games for it that are good, are immortal.
awesome graphic, awesome soundtrack and awesome gameplay.. one of the best GB games ever.
The gameplay could’ve been better. It was impossible to kill thugs without getting hit Atleast once. Too difficult for regular kids. The animated series game is so much better
I remember having this game as a kid. The thing I could remember is having Batman dance to the music because the drums are really good.
Loved this game as a kid ! The animations of Batman and the music are so great ! Btw you missed a secret passage at level 4.
6 years late, but I apologize for not showcasing that part.
(I made this longplay)
I'm glad you love the game like I did as a kid!
@@Ironsharp Never too late to reply :)

7:39 I just got a 29 year old neuron activation that there is a hidden passage in the top left corner of this room.
Most of us who were teen in the 90's can still remember most of game boy game because of music
I had this game years ago, completed it many times, lost the game so bought it again a few years ago but now I keep getting killed lol.
Such a nastolgic game. The first level's theme was so iconic
Ah man the sounds bring back so many memories.
The joker final boss music reminds me of mortal kombat. Lol
I liked to think I was actually fighting Dark Claw from the Amalgam universe, or something.
Mega man music?
Same composer, Manami Matsumae.
with ninja gaiden optic^^

Wow.. the memories.. crazy looking at it. It’s basically TMNT first game on Nintendo..
So many good memories 👌nice vid
Awesome music and graphics! Sunsoft rocked back in the day.
Best Batman game on GB
This is the best version of the game. Much better than the console versions^^
It's a separate game from Return of the Joker on NES, which is actually known as Dynamite Batman... which is the best Batman game of them all, by the way.
+Hayao Actually no, Adventures of Batman and Robin (Genesis) and Batman: The Video Game (Game Boy) are the best games of them all. Try 'em.
SpiralPegasus I really want to get the Game Boy Batman again... I remember it being really fun.
Both this game and the first Sunsoft NES game are excellent Batman games. Return of the Joker on NES is a steaming turd that is NOT a Batman game.
SpiralPegasus He obviously meant the best version out of the 4 versions of Return Of The Joker.
Best music on a GameBoy game, along with Capcom's Gargoyle's Quest.
And btw the game is incredible once you master all the controls. Only problem is it takes some practice.
alexouin3 I second that whole heartedly.
maaan gargoyle's quest was awsome on the game boy, I will try out the NES sequel these days via emulator, and after that the demon's crest on the SNES!!! :-)

I remember playing this when I was 8. I was so good that I'm only using 1% of my power
My childhood!
I still remember this game after all that years
Epic F**K*** game, nice walkthrough, thank you for allowing me to revisit this gem from my childhood !
Looking back at my childhood, i now consider this game to actually be pretty bad and i am surprised i endured its awfull madness. It sure had it's part in honing my gaming skills.
I love this game. I still play it on the gameboy :D
Great game. Best times of playing
this is pretty difficult, the player is really good. I'm playing this on my phone, tho...
It is! I'm playing it on a downgraded 3DS. :P
Randall Marty f
the gameboy was a classic little games macine.
At the title screen if you pressed LEFT, SELECT AND B at the same time than Robin would help you when you have one health point at bosses
Robin is not in this game at all.
This looks like a really good game
Yes, it was :'(
Ratchet020 it's really not a good batman game, it feels like they tried too many things for a small game boy.
Not counting Batman Forever, the other 3 Batman games on the original GB are all fantastic.
The music in this game sounds more batman than any other :D
SunSoft were awesome, not many could do such good games on GB like this.
I remember playing this so much. I was devastated when I found out that it was in my pants pocket when it got put through the washing machine 😢
Oh my god i miss this game
The gameplay might be incredibly flawed, however the soundtrack is very stella!!
Brings back memories
I’ve had this game for as long as i can remember, i found it in a box in my sisters room 10+ years ago. I still can’t beat it though, i get my ass handed to me by the third stage lol
As a kid I thought that the 1st boss was KGBeast, 2nd boss was Ra's in shogun's armour - due to league assassins being there...
3rd boss was Sportsmaster and the last boss was Joker himself.
Batman was a bit tired and needed to crouch rapidly.
I remember I was the first to discover that it's easier to waste all your batrangs before boss and just use punches to beat him because he can block batrangs but not melee.
LightBrand I did the same thing
I bet everyone did this if they knew how to play this
old school game...love this game of Batman...
its very cool...
I play this game when I was small, I still remember batman had
hydrophobia
You missed a secret passage at 7:38 to the left and at 16:38 by going down
I like how the title sounds slightly identical to the Batman Beyond movie title
i can c batman has a hookshot and a boomerang
Dark Claw, Shogun Warrior & Foul Ball? I've never heard of those super villains
KGBeast, Ra's in samurai's armor and Sportsmaster.
10:28 oh yeah my favorite shogun warrior ❤
I've now played this. It's so glitchy and flickery, it's astonishing that Sunsoft is the same company that made the classic NES version! O_O
He dont know that hide room . OMG I was play this game and i love it . Only 5 minute i finished all levels .
When Batman watched too much Bionic Commando and Ninja Gaiden
I used to play this all the time
Now that you think about it.. why is there constantly bad guys dropping down into the sewage with no entry point?
Interesting concept... Batman's one weakness is water.
He gets up after being beaten once. It's kind of a "gotcha" moment or something.
We do speedrun of this when we were kids. And made batman dance by pressing left and right repeatedly lol
amazing game
That Batman Sprite looks like TAS Batman.
Looks good for a gameboy game.
Too bad for AVGN didn't pass the first level of the game.
lo andaba buscando, gracias manito me recordaste ala infancia
In the first and last Level there is a Life Upgrade hidden, which give you 7 Lifebars in the game.
Level 2 too
the good old days
I notice in almost every 2D Batman game he does the wall to wall jump.
I always wondered where that was based on, as I never see him do that in movies and shows (I'm not a comic book reader, so I don't know if he also does this in the comics).
Well, he sure won't take the elevator, or stairs, so he has to find some way on top of buildings, especially those too high for his grappling gun to get him on top of.
the music in this batman game sounds like castlevania tunes
Everyone thinks that mario "invented" wall jump but no it was batman!
One of the game I played the most before, I stuck on that nasty foul ball.
not that bad for a gameboy game and sunsoft was one of the better game companies they made better games than ljn the music is good the sound ok gameplay not bad the graphics are alright overall i give this 7 batwings out of 10
Game was pretty enjoyable until that last boss. Some developers really don't know the difference between challenging and tedious.
This game dose seem very hard and precise but on top of continued struggle to see the gameboy screen MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE .
masterpiece
Amazing game i own , MUSIC TOP of the TOPS
The water in the sewers level looks like a huge graphical glitch. Otherwise it looks like a cool game which I could‘ve enjoyed as a kid. ^^
Dat Funky Music. 😎
I just win the easy level the normal level is very difficult
Yeah, I honestly think that if the range of the punch, usefulness of the batarang, and hit detection in general were better the game would actually be pretty good.
MegaMan 2 music?
cool vid i remember playin this great game :)
