18 months stationed in South Korea: Boil noodles. Drain. Retain a small amount of water. Add 1/2 of flavor pack. Melt in 1 slice of American cheese. Hot sauce to flavor. I think it cost roughly 15 cents back in 1987. Great for an American Private soldier like me back in the 80's.

TBH: as a stupid person I am, I never thought instant ramen could be eaten by itself. I bought a package, let it sit in hot water for 3 minutes and added all kinds of stuff like: fried onions, vegetarian meat, green onions, sambal, boiled egg, shredded nori...and other things just because I always though instant ramen was the base of something you should make yourself. Maybe because I saw the movie 'Tampopo' when I was 18 and it left a deep impression on me on how to eat ramen. Anyway: thank you for this very delicious video!! Also: thank you for letting your sons (and your viewers) see how precious nature is with your bee collective videos, your keeping of various animals and just making everybody aware there is actual beauty in everything nature sends us!
Clearly you arent stupid (or bland) you've just ascended to a higher flavor plane from the start. It's a SHAME when people have never tried spicing up their ramen. It makes cheap food far more decedent and enjoyable. -
Watching your videos are a guilty pleasure. My ex girlfriend was self-titled the queen of Ramen. She always added sliced American cheese, cayenne pepper, butter, egg, etc. to Ramen. She grew up inner-city and kind of had to improvise because parent's were never around. I thought this was a product of circumstance and never because it was a thing. I had always told her these things don't go into instant Ramen, but she was right (as always lol) in saying that they can and do - she would love this.
And to clarify: I saY guilty pleasure because I sit here on TH-cam late at night after work and watch video after video on Emmy's channel knowing that I will be tired in the morning in doing so.
abrooker01, I love this channel! I used to make my niece Ramen, we would follow the recipe but only use half of the spice packet and a bit of oyster sauce & some vegetables. It was always yum! My favorite is Shin Ramyun with sardines (canned in water). Like your dad, my kids tease me (just a little) by referring to ‘dad’s sardine soup.’ Also am a messy eater, so to avoid spills on my shirts, I wear an apron. Better than a bib!
Great idea!! I look through these comments for ramyun add-on ideas & I would have never thought of this one. Love sardines, especially on potato chips!
That's wonderful idea! Shin Ramyun is one of my favorite brands and one that's easily obtained in my local big box stores. I'll have to snag a can of sardines the next time I buy a pack of noodles!
Plain chicken or pork ramen with leftover Japanese curry is one of my faves. If I don’t have any curry I always add egg and sesame oil. I LOVE sesame oil. I’ve also been known to add butter to things you normally wouldn’t think to, like Chilli and egg salad.
This is the exact way my mom always made instant ramen for us growing up, but she used oriental flavored ramen and chicken broth instead of water. I preferred my egg scrambled like egg drop soup over the soft boiled egg though.
My ex served in the US Army, and was in Korea for a year. He came home and was adding scrambled egg and cheese to his ramen! I didn't like it then, but now, I love to add things to my ramen! A poached egg, extra veggies, meats, etc, and I boil the noodles in beef or chicken stock...makes it so rich and more like a meal.
I love how what you did was so simple rather than other ppl doing all that extra stuff (no offense to anyone who does that) but this looks so nice and easyyyyy so I’m definitely gonna be doing thisss😌
This is my first video of yours that i’ve seen and I really loved it! You’ve earned yourself a subscriber. I never thought of putting cheese into a ramen.
I’ve always eaten my ramen with cheese, although I do prefer cheddar cheese any time is good. The way I make my ramen is Cook Beef ramen normally Add 1 cup of cheddar cheese Add hot sauce (preferably Valentina sauce) Add some garlic and onion powder And there you go my favorite ramen recipe
I had just found this recipe online last week & made it for my daughter. She loved it. Now I find your video. Lol! I love to add an egg, green onion, a touch of sesame oil & a few splashes of hot sauce. Sooo good!
So I've been eating ramen just by it's self my entire life, and I'm completely new to the concept of adding different ingredients to it. I just made this and I'm shocked, it's absolutely delicious. I used Maruchan ramen, left out the sesame seeds, added sriracha, and woo-boy so good! 🖒🖒
I just had top ramen for the first time this month and I added mozzarella to one and it was soooooo much better, though I am more of a Shin ramen girl.
If you love salty, drain all the water off, like spaghetti, stir in butter and the seasoning packet. So salty and delicious. The butter and powder make such a tasty sauce. Honestly the number one thing I miss being gluten free.
I literally learned how to do this on my own two months ago and it's my favorite way to have ramen. I recommend Gouda cheese or sharp American cheese. I also put Sriracha in mine. It's the best.
Nice video. I'm sure someone already pointed this out, as it's been nearly 2 years, but at 4:13, it's not tonKAtsu ramen, it is tonKOtsu. TonKAtsu is battered and fried pork cutlet, toKOtsu is a delicious milky white bone broth originally from Fukuoka. BTW, that American cheese thing is very Korean. They love putting it in their Army stew (Budae jjigae). Keep up the great work!!
Aye yo @VOIDArc yeah dude they make it look bomb and easy but I’m over here sweatin and bullshiting because I can’t put the right amount of suace to my noodles , every one saying Mexican suace is fuego hell nah try this shit and you will re consider the kinds of fuego
my instant ramen started becoming revolutionary when i added in egg in the soup but ig they were already revolutionary because my parents loved to put vegetables in the ramen and it was delicious. my dad made a tomato version and it was mmmMMM except i was the only one to like it. underrated.
My family and i are from Mexico. So the type of ramen i grew up with was simple Maruchan with lime and hot sauce. (Preferably Tapatio, lots of it!) And for me nothing beats that simple combination. It's the flavors of home, and it just makes me feel so nostalgic :)
just made it, it was very good! Didnt have butter, so I splashed in a bit of heavy cream at the very end, after poaching egg. Just a splash is all that is needed. Also, I like to use Funyuns as a topping. Those are the french fried onions used on green bean casserole. Used American cheese, this works better than the other cheese I have tried. Used some shrimp for some meat. Tasty! Thanks.
Sorry Emmy in the hood white American, or orange process slices have been used. Butter and hot sauce are familiar condiments also. Yup! Roy Choi knew people from the hood lol. Love your videos
Rashiadah Weaver just because he used hot sauce and cheese doesn’t mean he got it from the hood, I use both of those things because my Japanese friends used them in Japan when I studied abroad, people all around the world eat ramen with cheese in it and Mexicans have been using hot sauce like Valentina in theirs forever 😂 the hood didn’t create this trend 😂😂
Adding sauce after makes the broth or exterior of the noodles more flavorful. Adding the sauce ahead of time allows the noodles to soak in the flavor while cooking.
I love to add: Tofu aage, sliced spicy serranos, green onions, sesame oil, eggs, and bamboo shoots. If I'm making fancy ramen, it's gonna have the right ingredients. Any combination of those ingredients is a good one.
Every morning for breakfast I make soup out of ramen noodles, frozen mixed veggies, cut up celery, some spinach or chard, any fresh veggie that I have on hand. And a couple of pieces of hot and spicy sausage. It's never the same, but the best & healthiest kind of breakfast you can have! I will have to add an egg occationally. Thanks Emmy for more ideas for my breaky!!!
I am too and I love to add American cheese to noodle soups, not just ramen. And to the cancer commenter, the MSG is bad, your car exhaust is bad, your use of plastic is bad. Processed cheese does not give you cancer.
@@damien1781 MSG has sodium which in large quantities is bad for the body. And I'm sure I am more educated than you, but nice job missing my original point.
My dad was in the army and put slices of cheese and pieces of lunch meat in his instant ramen lol I figured he picked it up from one of his travels while in the military
That is a korean dish called budae-jigae, it is basically created because the us military used to provide random rations to koreans like cheese, hotdogs and spam. Koreans tossed that together with ramen. You can go to korea and get it at many restaurants. Even in korea towns in places like la, ny, Toronto and atlanta.
When I was a kid, and even now as an adult, I’d eat all the noodles, and then cook the spam in the remaining broth, then throw in day-old cold rice and eat it together. Gahh that’s good
I always, always, always put sliced American cheese in my ramen. Adds a lot of creamy flavor, and tastes amazing! WARNING: Do NOT put anything other than the processed American cheese singles. Other cheeses don't melt the same, and won't entirely dissipate like the American will, making it a complete mess. Trust me, it's not pretty.
Tyler Hebel what that’s crazy you think that. I wouldn’t ever put sliced cheese in it. I always add shredded marble cheese or mild cheddar, it melts awesome and tasted a whole lot better and it’s even better knowing it’s not processed cheese.
Here's a instant phõ recipe I like -instant phõ bowl -brown and/or white mushrooms -frozen beef -frozen green onions (add in after) -egg (I don't personally do that but you can do it if ya like)
The way I do it is cook the noodles without the seasoning. Put a dab of butter in the bottom of a bowl with the seasoning on top of the butter. Drain almost all the water off and then put the noodles and what water is left on top of the butter/seasoning. Mix it till the noodles are coated then put a piece of cheese on top of that and it melts right away. Then mix it in and eat.
You do a great job. Very classy and easy to follow presentation. And I'm SO glad you actually taste and enjoy your own recipes at the end!! It irks me when people don't, on recipe videos. I personally would use real cheese rather than the Kraft slices, but that's just me. Otherwise, looks delicious! Keep up the excellent work. You're a joy to watch!
tonight i added frozen corn sauteed in butter, then shrimp ramen, fish sauce, an egg, garlic powder, sesame oil and cayenne....i love seeing what others do too. thanks emmy!
Some other suggestions: use chicken stock instead of water, add Tamari, a little bit of sesame oil, don't use the flavor packet (if it's a cheap one), cut up chicken into 10 mm cubes and cook it in the broth raw, black sesame seeds, add olive oil or extra virgin, Tabasco, sriracha or just the dry spices which are available now in a spice shaker, lime juice, cilantro, etc.
My family has our own way of cooking Ramen. Here it is: Chicken flavor ramen mixed with 1 or 2 eggs, diced green onions and our key add-on: lemon, a whole lemon for that sour punch! Optional: Tapatio sauce (reason: well, because it's the only hot sauce we know that isn't strong enough to change the flavor of the noodles. That's the lemons job) Sounds weird, it pretty much is, but we actually love it!
My moms been making ramen like this for years and some things that are rly good to add is salt pepper and garlic and if you like a bit of spice add tony chacheres
I got a nice recipe: Put your water into a pot, and put it on high. Dont add noodles yet! As its heating up add: Low-Sodium soy sauce Chives The ramen packet(s) Cayenne Pepper Garlic powder/chopped garlic Onion powder/chopped onion *add as much of these items as you think necessary Bring it all to a boil. Then, add the noodles! Cook them as long as you like them. If you want an egg in yours, add it after the noodles are added. *Btw, add more soy sauce and less of the packet if you want it to taste more traditional.
I never comment on TH-cam but I had to for this. I’ve literally been eating my ramen this was since. I’ll use a spicy Nongshim ramen and the cheese and egg mellows out the spicy flavor so much. It’s like a slightly spicy stew and my family and friends are obsessed! Thanks, Emmy!

My husband was stationed in South Korea in the late 60's. He's 68, and to this day, his favorite meal is ramen noodles and kimchi.
No thanks. Ramen is a soup. Stop getting rid of the best part. 😝
❤️❤️❤️ Confession: is still haven't seen Tampopo.
Surely you're on your way to watch it very soon...:-)
Clearly you arent stupid (or bland) you've just ascended to a higher flavor plane from the start. It's a SHAME when people have never tried spicing up their ramen. It makes cheap food far more decedent and enjoyable. -

Wow...thank you! You just made my day ( actually night, because it's 04:06 am here in the Netherlands now) I will keep exploring my ramen!

I always put butter and dices of fresh cheese on my ramen, love those chewy salty bits in it :3

Her videos are the best. Probably one of my favorite TH-cam channels
And to clarify: I saY guilty pleasure because I sit here on TH-cam late at night after work and watch video after video on Emmy's channel knowing that I will be tired in the morning in doing so.
ex? oof sorry abou that
abrooker01, I love this channel! I used to make my niece Ramen, we would follow the recipe but only use half of the spice packet and a bit of oyster sauce & some vegetables. It was always yum! Thanks Em❤️!
recently found a channel called "Pasta Grannies," it's a channel with Italian grannies making homemade pasta. I have made the ricotta gnocchi and it was delicious, give the channel a visit.
Awe it's so cute that you still talk about and admire your ex. I can't imagine how adorable you guys must have been when you were together lol.
Yeah I’d break up with someone who told me what I can and can’t put in my ramen too

Sighhhhhh...this takes me back to Songtan, South Korea where I was stationed for two years at the end of the '80s! I never saw people (besides myself) put an egg in their ramyun but a LOT of folks put a slice of American cheese with it. But adding the butter, with or without the onions is something I KNOW I will do from here on out! Thank you!!
My pleasure.
what i usually do with the egg is scramble it inside the ramen so its like eggdrop soup kinda.
Chain Plays tried that and hated it
I would never scramble the egg! Tried it once and never again. Plus, it absorbs all the water and eating the dish that way is full of extreme sodium.
Just put a fried egg in top

Cool video. 👍 My mother told me that her family sometimes ate popcorn eith milk for breskf. I never believed her.
My mom alway kept sardines in the pantry as a tasty and inexpensive protein addition to almost any meal.
That's wonderful idea! Shin Ramyun is one of my favorite brands and one that's easily obtained in my local big box stores. I'll have to snag a can of sardines the next time I buy a pack of noodles!
Eric Gamble Sounds delicious .. Thanks for the new ideas ..
Love me some deenz!

When you love cheese but it doesn’t love ya back
I’ve always eaten my ramen with cheese, although I do prefer cheddar cheese any time is good.
The way I make my ramen is
Cook Beef ramen normally
Add 1 cup of cheddar cheese
Add hot sauce (preferably Valentina sauce)
Add some garlic and onion powder
And there you go my favorite ramen recipe
Mmm...
If you love salty, drain all the water off, like spaghetti, stir in butter and the seasoning packet. So salty and delicious. The butter and powder make such a tasty sauce. Honestly the number one thing I miss being gluten free.
Wooooo *SAME* I *LOVE* Shin Ramennnnn
I literally learned how to do this on my own two months ago and it's my favorite way to have ramen. I recommend Gouda cheese or sharp American cheese. I also put Sriracha in mine. It's the best.
I love how you are positive about everything ;)

Adding Worcestershire sauce has been my big time go to for a while now. I love it, yet I haven't heard of anyone else doing it.
Tasty! Thanks.
Yes, definitely check out the ramen video by Simon and Martina. I've used plastic cheese in my ramen ever since I saw it. So yummy and creamy
lol....plastic cheese, is that anything like plastic mushrooms? ( canned)
Sorry Emmy in the hood white American, or orange process slices have been used. Butter and hot sauce are familiar condiments also. Yup! Roy Choi knew people from the hood lol.
Love your videos
Rashiadah Weaver just because he used hot sauce and cheese doesn’t mean he got it from the hood, I use both of those things because my Japanese friends used them in Japan when I studied abroad, people all around the world eat ramen with cheese in it and Mexicans have been using hot sauce like Valentina in theirs forever 😂 the hood didn’t create this trend 😂😂
the hood lmao
I add my sauce after I cook my ramen noodles .
I like to add frozen peas and carrots and a sliced hard boiled egg to mine.
Princess of Thelema the right way
Adding sauce after makes the broth or exterior of the noodles more flavorful. Adding the sauce ahead of time allows the noodles to soak in the flavor while cooking.
Terrific presentation every time. Always a pleasure to see you x
I love this woman with all my heart and soul 😭
I love to add: Tofu aage, sliced spicy serranos, green onions, sesame oil, eggs, and bamboo shoots. If I'm making fancy ramen, it's gonna have the right ingredients. Any combination of those ingredients is a good one.

My dad was in the army and put slices of cheese and pieces of lunch meat in his instant ramen lol I figured he picked it up from one of his travels while in the military
McGturtle3 it's not exactly a secret, who wouldn't try adding things into their ramen to make them nicer/healthier/more filling?
Hickory smoked Spam cut into little cubes and fried is very good with ramen esp with cream of chicken soup.
Gahh that’s good
Does this also name your email ? Nobody said it was a secret lol I’ve never had the desire to embellish instant ramen personally 🤷🏾♀️

OMG Emmy!! Made it, It was delicious! Thank you!
you're making my ramen obsession grow larger but iT'S FINE I WHOLEHEARTEDLY ACCEPT IT
I always, always, always put sliced American cheese in my ramen.
I've never been so excited to go home from work to make ramen noodles 😂😂❤️❤️

I don’t really like my ramen extremely watery but I also don’t like it dry so I go through so much while making ramen
Same, I pour out the water but leave enough to where it isn't dry but not soupy
Salty Insomniac bro if you can make that perfect ramen I applaud you it’s rarely that I get my ramen good
I do this, I pour all of the water out, add my seasoning packet then pour a little bit of the water back in and mix it with the packet. So good.
I’ve tried this recipe when I was in college, and yes it is delish
The way I do it is cook the noodles without the seasoning. Put a dab of butter in the bottom of a bowl with the seasoning on top of the butter. Drain almost all the water off and then put the noodles and what water is left on top of the butter/seasoning. Mix it till the noodles are coated then put a piece of cheese on top of that and it melts right away. Then mix it in and eat.

Being stuck inside i am now getting every instant ramen dish in the world lol, TH-cam knows what i want.
Here it is:
Chicken flavor ramen mixed with 1 or 2 eggs, diced green onions and our key add-on: lemon, a whole lemon for that sour punch!
Optional: Tapatio sauce (reason: well, because it's the only hot sauce we know that isn't strong enough to change the flavor of the noodles. That's the lemons job)
Sounds weird, it pretty much is, but we actually love it!
I love when you say Itadakimasu before you eat ! It’s so cute 🥰
My moms been making ramen like this for years and some things that are rly good to add is salt pepper and garlic and if you like a bit of spice add tony chacheres
YES . tony’s is always so good on everything lol!!
I got a nice recipe:
Put your water into a pot, and put it on high. Dont add noodles yet! As its heating up add:
Low-Sodium soy sauce
Chives
The ramen packet(s)
Cayenne Pepper
Garlic powder/chopped garlic
Onion powder/chopped onion
*add as much of these items as you think necessary
Bring it all to a boil.
Then, add the noodles! Cook them as long as you like them. If you want an egg in yours, add it after the noodles are added.
*Btw, add more soy sauce and less of the packet if you want it to taste more traditional.

When I started college and lived on my own, my mates brought me to local Indian restaurants (Mamak) for late night suppers.
