    Works I'm sure. I'm a Floridian who has peeled many many shrimp/prawn. I use a tool and it takes the shell off and the vein, too. But, I learned something here, taking the vein out at the start was new to me. I am not that concerned with the vein, a lot of us just eat away. Thanks !

    To devein means to remove the prawn intestinal tract cheers guys.👍

    • @aangthejeweller
      @aangthejeweller 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why don't people devein the bottom side of the shrimp too? The intestinal tract runs all the way around the shrimp, and usually there's a lot more grit on the underside.
      Also side note: although it takes a lot more time and effort, you should show how to peel the tail keeping it attached it to the whole shrimp. I find it wasteful to throw the tail out, when it's possible to eat it!

    • @illegitimate0
      @illegitimate0 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The bottom "vein" is the central nerve of the shrimp. Nothing wrong with eating it and it doesn't impact the flavor.

  • @TombstoneHeart

    Another method is to push a tooth pick right through the side of the prawn tail, underneath the vein and lift it up until it breaks through the top of the tail, bringing the vein with it. You will end up with a very small tear in the tail, but you're going to chew it up and eat it anyway, so who cares. I was delivering some stuff to an Asian restaurant in Townsville years ago and saw an old bloke deveining prawns with this method. I've used it ever since.

    Hi, I have a question.. I bought unshelled prawns and I tried to devein it like you did, but I can't find anything.. no veins... but on the inner curve, I did find a black line that I removed... and on the tail part there is a line that I removed too by cutting the back.. my prawns look really ugly.. but seems like the job is done. what did i do wrong? it's my first time deveining prawns. thank you.

    Good video not here to say anyones wrong but just call it how i see it , there's a 4th way though where you devain the shrimp fully, i noticed you just did the top didn't say anything about the underside vein? Maybe it's not necessary? Correct me if i'm wrong

    is the vein dangerous?

    • @Slash18622
      @Slash18622 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adem Penver It's not that good for you if you eat a lot of it. But if you forgot one or so it does not harm you, just gives a very bitter taste.

    • @saifury2
      @saifury2 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adem Penver No, its just poop, and nobody wants to eat poop.

      Adem Penver we call it the vein, but it's actually the prawn's intestines. What's inside is basically prawn shit.

    There are 2 veins one at the back and one at the front. I have not seen any chef till day showing or removing the vein which is on the front side.

    There are two "veins". Yes we know they are not really veins, but that's what they are called. Anyway a few places on the net cover removing both veins, but I've found no vids on YT.

      +Tmidiman I've de-veined shrimp and its along the back and the tummy. When you take out the back vein, I noticed it kept pulling more, and it pulled out the tummy one. Thats when I discovered the second vein. From the back vein removal, just keep pulling and you will remove it all, . if not, you eat some crap,. Oh well.

    My favorite way is to buy the prawns/shrimp already pealed and de-veined at my local Wal-Mart and yes I know that Wal-Mart made a ISIS Black Flag themed cake but that was in Louisiana I don't live in that state.

  • @NWChickasaw

    you need to devein the top of the shrimp - there are more veins on each side

    How do you devein the prawn without removing the shell.

    • @TheHookandTheCook
      @TheHookandTheCook  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Take the head off the Prawn then remove the middle tail spike then pull the vein from the head end and the vein just slides straight out with out removing the shell, Thanks for tuning in and Please subscribe to our channel to keep up to date, Thanks.
