I wanted to say too that I think this song could be a very intimate one about Till's relationship with professional swimming which he had to give up. We wouldn't have him so I'm glad, but who he became was not who he was molded to be. He even went to a swimming boarding school for athletes to train for years. When you think of that and relisten, you'll see what I mean how it could be about him and swimming. Bless this man he is such a treasure. ❤

You're right about Till taking on the roll of the character who tells the story. If I remember correctly Till said that he enjoys playing the antagonist/villain in their songs. If you want to listen to some more lesser known, maybe underrated, songs you could check out "Mehr" (more) and "Nebel" (fog). "Nebel" spelled backwards means Leben (life) which is quite fitting for that song. Lyrically it's pretty short but beautiful and sad. But there are many more lesser known (and known) Rammstein songs that you have yet to discover. :)

It's about the guy, who knows that you will never get the girl he wants, maybe because she's beautiful, and he isn't, maybe because she's rich, and he isn't, maybe she has a higher social standing or role and he hasn't. The fire and water are definitely a metaphor for that as well as a metaphor for his hot desire/lust and her beauty and and emotionlessness towards him. "Glatt wie ein Fisch" (slippery as an eel {adj} [idiom] - glatt wie ein Aal [Redewendung]) means superficial perfection with a shady core (blaming / hate-loving her) and could also mean he can never hold her, or she is unreachable. But it could also mean that he grabbed her and did something to her, while "kalt wie Eis" (clod as ice) could describe her feelings for him as well as hinting towards murder. Although definitely sxu al it is very poetic and well thought through.
I think Rammstein's less "popular" songs are really good too, it would be great to see them here... like Halt, Alter mann, Laichzeit, Ein Lied, Hilf Mir. There are many
