Ola, the first time I saw a warlock, was in '89, I was a freshman in high school and my best friend's brother had one standing in his bedroom and wouldn't let us even touch it. We all play guitar together daily and I always make sure they see these "classic" metal guitars. Wow!!! My first real guitar was a gold series warlock. Blood red with gold hardware and active EMG. It was used and priced at $500.00 CAD. I delivered news papers for a year or more to save up half and my dad covered the rest. Around 1990. About 3 or 4 years later I replaced the body with an ibanez style mahogany dark finish that I made for a grade 11 shop project. I had grown out of a shape like that. I wish I kept the warlock body. I still have the rest of the guitar with the body I made. It sounded just like that, I used to play Slayer on it and everything. Thanks for bringing back some really good memories man. 32 years ago...shit!!!

The BC Rich Warlock is one of my all time favorite guitar shapes. Currently have a 2014 Black Cherry Burst NJ Deluxe Warlock that I bought as a new b-stock. One of the best playing guitars I've owned and it still gets regular use today.

There was a PRS SE Santana hanging in my local guitar store for years that everyone played when they were testing amps but no one ever bought it. I didn't love the color or shape but the pickups were great-sounding and really versatile. Other than a few tiny dings (and badly oxidized strings) it was in perfect shape. When the store was moving locations they sold several things and the manager sold me the guitar for $200 (it was still listed around $700-750). I think he was just tired of looking at it. I've always liked that headstock. That and the original vintage headstocks. they didn't standout, but they worked, and went with the over all look. These larger pointy headstocks were the first thing to draw me to the first bc rich i ever saw, and I just love them. I never liked or hated the window one, but i'm not drawn to them either. I love the large 80s pointy headstock, especially reversed. I hope you still have that axe, and enjoy it.
This is just awsome! I bought the same BC Rich guitar in 1991! It had the exact purple finish with blue sparkles example which introduced me in the death metal world. I remember that Max Cavalera (Sepultura) had the same model and I just had to buy one as I was a huge Sepultura fan. The album 'Arise' just came out in 1991 at the time this model came available. On this particular model I learned most of my skills as a metal guitarist using a valve state Randall along with a Boss metal zone. Unfortunately I sold this guitar somewhere in 1994 as I didn't like the purple color as it wasn't 'metal ' enough. Anyway, as I played death metal through the years I always thought about this guitar because it brought me into the world of death metal. Funny thing by the way... the headstock of this particular model is quite huge and straight. Love the old Warlock guitars. This one sounds awesome. I bought a used Warlock in ‘92 and have had it every since. Hands down, the best guitar I’ve had for tone and how it feels when played. Nice video Ola, love the story.
Man I love shit like this. Really makes you wonder sometimes about things that seem meant to be. Those pickups make it even more badass, and an awesome shirt too btw!
Got a bronze series warlock and honestly I love that thing . I play it more than any other guitar I own, it’s super comfortable, plays fine and didn’t cost to much . What more can you ask for . Love this guitar ola . Such a great story 👍
Damnnnn. I just bought this guitar, same color and all, but electronics were dead. Ordered a set of kh-bb yesterday and just found this video. The stars are aligned. Can’t wait to get it running.
I honestly really miss my cheap crappy warlock it sounded bad til I put some EMG's in it. Beat the crap out of it then traded it for something more high end and I regret it. Had the best neck I've played on. Thanks for taking me down memory lane.
I always liked warlock bodies. The one I built, I did some relief cuts on the body and contoured it so it wasn't so sharp edged. Mines hard tail too with guitarfetish pickups. Great guitars ola. Thank you!!!
Very early 90s Max Cavalera vibes in that one. Perhaps a Beneath The Remains or Arise guitar tone video sometime in the future? I mean, BC Rich Warlock with EMGs and Marshall was basically the tone of those two albums lol.
I still have an old BC Rich Ironbird somewhere - early 90s Korean, bolt-on neck... (not a Pro, unfortunately) Thanks for reminding us about these beasts Ola! 😀👍
I own the 27-fret one, couldn’t get the chameleon 7-string and the military green one was on sale so I grabbed it, about $300 plus $40 for the hard case and that was in 2014. Still have it.
My first electric guitar was 92 NJ Warlock in fluro green. I got it new in 92 and still have it. Awesome guitar. Love the shape. Cool you have this one and coincidently I was playing 99 on mine just before watching this vid.
Just for the additional info, the big headstock and the "licensed" mark shows that it is a "Class Axe" Warlock, built under license in korea. All the BC Rich built between 87 and 93 got only the names and shapes since the license was bought for them by the Class Axe company. it is only in 1993 that Bernie Rico takes back the brand and control over it. Classe Axe guitars have an overall bad reputations since some were decent but some other were utter crap, control quality was really low. So if you got a Class Axe like this one that plays and sounds good, consider yourself lucky! :)
@@skxj yes the Class Axe guitars become quite rare... but that's not a bad thing lol. The latter BC Rich are way better, especially the japanese NJ series, and the actual line got nothing but good reviews as well
I've always wanted this exact warlock model. Always been a huge fan of BC. I've had a few Bich guitars and loved them all. I always switch the pickups tho. My current Bich is a rare 30" baritone, it's a beast. Pretty wild the used prices on BC guitars today, Bronze Series are selling for around $300 for some reason. 15 years ago, you couldn't even give one away.
I got mine in 1990 and I still have it after 32 years. It has a light pinkish to orange colour but with spray painted dark gray ovals done through a small hexagonal chicken wire mesh.
Always loved the shape of the Warlocks, drooling over pictures in old guitarmagazines and in the musicstore but could never afford one, and these days I haven't heard many good things about the warlocks so I've kinda stayed away, but amazing that you got an old model, especially one that you've had your eyes on for many many years :D Sounds amacing!
Warlocks in particular are an all or nothing Guitar. The expensive ones? Great. Anything under $800 though is worthless without swapping out all electronics and making some adjustments.
There is a lot of those Bronze series Warlock's floating around " out there". I got my hands on one a few years ago that my friend had sanded down to natural, hardtail with a decent pickup. It was a very good axe, perhaps in spite of itself. It's just a bit too metal in shape, some like it, some not. I'm not a big fan of " weapon" guitars. Anyhow, it played great and now I hear great things about the new B.C. Rich releases. Want a gunslinger very much, in honor of CC DeVille.
What a beauty. Almost closed a deal a couple months back for a bronze series warlock sadly the guy backed off. i'll still own one of the old BC Rich warlocks one day.
Nice choice of upgrades! I still have a white '85 Platinum Warlock that got a neon green Seymour Duncan Distortion upgrade and a '90 Platinum Virgin that got an EMG 81x. Fun stuff for occasional jams! That headstock was used on Platinum series all the way from '85 to '90 at least. The first two digits of the neck plate were roughly the year, but B.C. Rich was not strict on using those neck plates in order of production.
Great vid. I was 16 when Reign in Blood was released. I wanted a Warlock. I'm 52 now and play blues roots/jazz. Still want a Warlock. Cheers from Melbourne, Australia
Have a nice weekend Ola!!!Great guitar dude!!I love bc rich, reminds me too much Slayer and all these nice riffs!!Sounded great but you have and amazing amplification so it's natural to sound perfectly good!!
My go to axe is my 90s bronze series warlock made in Indonesia with a jb in the bridge. Doesn't feel like any other b.c. rich I've played. No matter what other guitar I get I keep going back to it. Just feels right
That guitar looks and sounds mean!! I love the Red body/matching red reverse headstock and the red pickups, I love it, Ola! I will admit that you make any guitar play like an absolute beast!! I love it!! Keep up the great work brother!! 🎸🤘🏻🎸🤘🏻
Sick! I've been trying to find for a good while a 90's Red B.C Rich Ironbird similar to Trey's from Morbid Angel, but with a reverse headstock. Now that you have a Warlock, will you do a Bolt Thrower cover? tone video?
The silver series were for all of a couple of years but I’m pretty sure they ditched plywood when they ditched silver/gold/diamond line and went to bronze/plat/plat pro - then they switched to basswood/chesswood/agathis in the entry levels, I have a laminated plywood warlock from about ‘94 lol
There's nothing bad about plywood guitars. Even some USA BC Richs were made like that. All the old Ibanez RGs and some Rickenbackers were made out of plywood too for example
@@mattjns Nice. I recently got an early '00s Platinum Ironbird. It's not made out of plywood but I wouldn't care if it was. By now those later Platinums are more affordable
I love the warlock man. Dopest guitar shape for metal ever imo. Grew up idolizing Max Cavalera's four-string white one back in the Arise days. I even got q toy model sitting on the desk
I do not really believe in love at first sight, until I saw this BC Rich (after the mods you did to it). Incredible guitar man! Congrats on getting it! I hope we can see it in a lot of videos!
I have a 10ish year old Korean warlock "pro x" ,it's satin black with cream binding, grover tuners, gold tone hardware , hard tail, all mahogany construction, neck through and it came with EMG 81/60 pickups and it sounds so boss, it's the quintessential metal rhythm guitar for crunchy riffs... The guy from In Flames used to rock the exact one but he installed gold pickup covers.. haven't played in in a few years my 2 amps got stolen and never replaced em or 1
Awesome story! I’ve got so much love for the old mom and pop music shops. I bought my first 7 string on payments from a shop like that when I was 17. Great memories
Have a great Friday everyone!

Man I love shit like this. Really makes you wonder sometimes about things that seem meant to be. Those pickups make it even more badass, and an awesome shirt too btw!
When I first started plating guitar I wanted a BC Rich so bad! So cool that you got the guitar you saw when you were young.
Such a cool story and I love those EMG's in there, looks sick as hell. Also sounds absolutely killer, well done!
(not a Pro, unfortunately)
Thanks for reminding us about these beasts Ola! 😀👍
So nice to see a Warlock in a color other than black. I would rock the hell out of that thing
Such a good looking guitar! In my days I really wanted the green/blue Xiphos. Reminds me of that for some reason
@Chacal CHK Music. Thanks for this information, good to know. I have a few pointy BC Rich but none with the licence stamp. Cheers.
@@skxj yes the Class Axe guitars become quite rare... but that's not a bad thing lol. The latter BC Rich are way better, especially the japanese NJ series, and the actual line got nothing but good reviews as well
@@AlexandreCriado the first guitar I bought is an 83 NJ series 6 string Bitch. I still have it and its still awesome. LoL.
The best kind of video, glad to see you promoting your friends!
Man looks like a sick guitar pickups fit perfectly look wise and sound
Ola I’ve waited so long to see a BC Rich on this page. So sick.
That feeling must be nostalgic. Feels great to see when things like this happens! \m/
Ive always loved b.c. rich there amazing guitars. It sounds like a beast with those garry holt pick ups great choice🤘🤘
I got mine in 1990 and I still have it after 32 years.
It has a light pinkish to orange colour but with spray painted dark gray ovals done through a small hexagonal chicken wire mesh.
I Love the old headstock shape, you are playing the same model as Cc Deville from poison. Lol
i keep coming back to this video for the tone. this is the best tone you got
Honestly. They are unwieldily. Sitting or standing. No in between.
@@tonyb7615 they are very easy sitting. You can do the V/classical positioning or normal Strat positioning. It's weighted bad for standing though.
Warlocks in particular are an all or nothing Guitar. The expensive ones? Great. Anything under $800 though is worthless without swapping out all electronics and making some adjustments.
So there u go.
@@justinlast2lastharder749 I dont like. He dont like. If a puff up out of no where I want to draw down on. Every time. And nativives want papers
I love those b.c. rich warlocks. They play great. I had a black one for a little while, shredded on it for days.
Gotta love those 90s bcs
Still have my Left Handed BC Rich Warlock from 1989 Royal Blue with Gold Hardware....Love that guitar!
BC Rich guitars are awesome. My wife bought me a Warlock style kit guitar and I stained it red like an SG. It’s just badass! 🤘😄
You should do a full cover of Fictional Reality, or really *any* Divine Intervention songs that's such a good album that's often fairly overlooked
Great vid. I was 16 when Reign in Blood was released. I wanted a Warlock. I'm 52 now and play blues roots/jazz. Still want a Warlock. Cheers from Melbourne, Australia
Have a nice weekend Ola!!!Great guitar dude!!I love bc rich, reminds me too much Slayer and all these nice riffs!!Sounded great but you have and amazing amplification so it's natural to sound perfectly good!!
my old roommate had that exact model but in a 4 string bass, back in 1995. Cool color!
What a cool axe and story….the devil made it purrr muhahaha
My go to axe is my 90s bronze series warlock made in Indonesia with a jb in the bridge. Doesn't feel like any other b.c. rich I've played. No matter what other guitar I get I keep going back to it. Just feels right
Every time Ola played that guitar I could smell stale beer and denim. \m/ \m/
you know this guitar has really special vibes on it i can feel it here in Egypt :)
Sad they don't really make them anymore as far as I know. That beast guitar or whatever was awesome
Warlock has not been discontinued, but I think they killed bolt ons.
The new BCR is horrible QC issues amd the company is now run by a bunch of douche canoes
They don't make the Beast because they don't own the rights for the design anymore.
Now that you have a Warlock, will you do a Bolt Thrower cover? tone video?
There's a reverse headstock 90s NJ Ironbird for sale in Germany.
Not red... at all. But looks great.
You can probably have the neck made
@@TwstedLizard Yeah, I'm looking around to see if any one is parting out with a neck.. Not in a hurry though.
Congrats on picking up this relic of your years growing up. That's gotta be a really good feeling
Ah yes, the BC Rich Platinums.
Made from premium PLYWOOD! 🔥🤘🏼
@@JanXD Dude, I have one from 91! 😂👍🏼
@@mattjns Nice.
I recently got an early '00s Platinum Ironbird. It's not made out of plywood but I wouldn't care if it was. By now those later Platinums are more affordable
Always loved the Warlock shape! Ever since I seen Craig Goldie play a white 1 with Dio, on the Sacred Heart tour, awesome as always Ola! Thanks!
The guy from In Flames used to rock the exact one but he installed gold pickup covers.. haven't played in in a few years my 2 amps got stolen and never replaced em or 1
One of your best videos yet Ola
Awesome story! I’ve got so much love for the old mom and pop music shops. I bought my first 7 string on payments from a shop like that when I was 17. Great memories
That is so wicked you got that! It was meant for you to get! Another metal classic for your collection!
