Hey Ola. Just wondering if you have tried leaving the ends of the strings on, at the headstock end? I do this with all my guitars, and have not had a failure yet. Saves a bit of time, and leaves no pointy bits of string poking out to bite you :D
@@Gornflyin dude I was just about to comment this. That’s how I’ve always done my strings with non locking tuning heads. Been doing that for over 20yrs works great.
A little over three years I came across one of your videos and it inspired me to play guitar and for the past couple of months I’ve been unmotivated to play but last night I came across one of your videos and it made me realize why I started playing and now all I want to do is play guitar your guitar playing is so inspiring and thankyou for doing these videos you’re amazing man
If English isn't your 1st language then I'm impressed, I'm Canadian and I couldn't tell, I've been to university and college and you slipped past me undetected LOL.
I imagen your sons and grandchildren all reunited in like five decades, all watching your videos and remembering what a great dude you are. Inspiring, down to earth and pretty talented. Best vibes from Mexico bro.
Absolutely love this guitar. Really love your clear love for you dime guitars Ola! Gutted, had to sell all my guitars because it the after effects of the pandemic and having to make sure the kids were ok as my disability makes it impossible for me to go out to work, hoping and praying that one day when can save up and spare the money that I can buy an STpro, absolutely beautiful!, please guys never take your guitars for granted! You never know what’s around the corner!! Big love everyone, awesome video as always Ola!
if this was me setting up a floyd rose guitar, it would have been about 3 hours long with one of those hours being solely dedicated to me crying and raging.
Man, I can't lie - I get hella jealous watching these sometimes lol. I've got two guitars... one RG that I love but desperately needs new pups & a decent Floyd (it's a $400-range guitar with crap original hardware). The other is my old starter guitar which is a very cheap RG clone. I've done some minor upgrades to that one, but it has some serious tuning-stability & intonation issues. It's the one I play most because the Dragonfire pups actually sound pretty good, but the constant tuning is a real pain, especially when recording. It took me almost 3 years to save up for the RG and eventually I'll upgrade it and have a decent axe, but medical bills... ugh I've never said anything publicly before, but I'm on disability and music is my therapy. It has quite literally saved my life. Getting lost in writing music helps me deal with the terrible chronic pain. If anyone knows of any organizations or programs that would help someone in my position please feel free to leave me a comment. I'd be eternally grateful! ✌️❤️🎵
My bad. that's a solid route. I thought there was a pad glued in the route guys. But that was a different model. The shallow route was on the ST Pro. The padding was not on the Washburn but the Dean. Don't quote me on that. Ether it was an option or installed at the factory..
Love that guitar, to be honest its my favorite guitar on your wall. Trying to find a red Washburn like that is nearly impossible and the prices are insane! Thanks for the upload!
I'm one of the few who enjoys setting up a Floyd. My first guitar had a Floyd and I remember paying 60 bucks each time I wanted to change the strings and have it set up for me in different tunings. Now I'm the one who charges for a setup, but I don't rip off any of my people who ask for help.
Thanks for recognizing that wood moves and that tuners need to be tightened every now and then. Also - props on pointing out that string windings sometime break off and foul the locking block on the whammy. Excellent vid, Ola!
Intonation on a Floyd Rose _is_ a nightmare - and I say this as someone who loves his Floyd Rose'd guitars! Loosen the string all the way, loosen the screw in front of the saddle, adjust with extreme precision, tighten the screw while keeping the saddle in place, tune up the string, tune the other strings as well while trying to rebalance the bridge, check the intonation... and if you're off, rinse and repeat! Even a Fender style bridge is easier to intonate! But of course a Floyd Rose has its own benefits, so yeah :P Sounds killer, as expected! Though, hearing a Dime guitar in anything other than 425 just doesn't sound right O:) Cowboys is actually 20 cents flat, at least on the original release. Though I have a hunch that even so, the whole album was actually sped up after recording, cus it all sounds... shrill or something. Like, put any Cowboys song into your DAW and put the playback rate at 0.977, and suddenly it sounds proper, at least to my ears (except for the title track cus it has a weird guitar tone lol). Y'all should watch Norsemen (Vikingane in Norwegian) if you haven't. It's an experience for sure lol
Hello Ola. To clean the fretboard also you can use olive oil. It's a natural moisturizing and antioxidant oil for wood, seriously. And if it is a spanish extra olive oil, it would be better 😉
Super nice guitar. Amazing to see what they go for nowadays. Nice job on the set up. I love Floyd bridges despite the difficulties they present sometimes. I swap out the trem arm for a drop in one and upgrade the springs to the noiseless ones. Sounds good!
I feel ya with the tall old man bending over pain. Pressure washed my driveway yesterday for like 2 hours before I realized I was hunched over. Today is pain.
I got one about 2 months ago. And I’ve been wanting Ola to do a My Guitar session on his. Glad it happened. These guitars are so sick! Pairs well with my Randalls and looks nice next to my Funky Munky Black Bolt. 😉
Lol I love Olas ramblings. I was so excited when i got my first guitar with a Floyd. But I didn't know anything about it so when I changed the strings I took them all off and I didn't block the bridge the way ola did. I quickly learned they're a pain in the butt and not worth the occasional dive bomb. The 2 guitars I have now are string through.
Funnily enough, I just picked up a $1200 MSRP Dean ML Import that has Duncans & a V-shaped neck - the v-neck is my favorite part of the guitar tbh, so comfy
@@masaharumorimoto4761 it’s their brazillia burst over a quilt maple top of some sort - but much more a bright orange to black burst than the browner ones out there
High quality car wax polish for the body is the best, I guarantee it - (not the swirl remover stuff, that's just a swirl creator) I had an old Gibson Les Paul Studio that was beat to hell that I decided to use as a guinea pig for cleaning products. The car wax made it look like brand new I kid you not. Pick scratches and everything (except the deep dents of course) completely gone. Love the channel Ola 👍 P.S Floyd Roses do my head in, but once they're dialed in you can get so much out of them. Worth the effort. Sometimes😜
FR bridges are a pain, one tip I got from a mate was to cut the sting at the ball end with some of the wrapping on and put that in the clamp, works great especially for the 9 gauge
Yeah a Floyd can be a hassle and a half. My tip is just find a set of strings and never change size, tuning and brand 😅 once a real quality Floyd is set though it's stable AF IMO
Hi Ola Great vid stunning guitar bro Iv got a Washburn usa D3 customshop Blackjack but with black binding on the neck Iv now had it 21 yrs bought it from Eric McKenna from Washburn customshop in Chicago Just love all your vids Keep Rocking buddy \m/
Just not a fan of the Dimebucker. They have a bit of harshness that I just can’t dig into. I back to backed this video with the Culprit video. That Bill USA white script pup had much better tone. These days I think the B & B Wilde 500xl, is the best option outside of an original. Anyways, thanks for all the great dime content over the years. I use your DIMED plugin pretty religiously. It’s kicks ass.
I was afraid of overtightening the strings on one of my floyds because people always says that overtightening the block could break it, but I used finger strength to tighten it only for the string almost whipping my face when i tuned it. So you gotta put in a bit more than finger strenght when tightening the string in the hole. the string was also pefectly inside the hole before I tightened it. I guess its just one of the fears of a floyd owner.
More awesome info, thanks dude, My 1st guitar is in the mail on the way to me and I've been learning for months, still finding little tips like this that will help!!
Would love to see you testing the PRS CE24 Dustie Waring Floyd - kinda seems interesting cuz its an unusual PRS Metal Axe with different neck profile, non PRS pickups and Floyd!
Schaller make the OFR, their "licensed" bridges use the same saddles and string blocks as a true Floyd. It's very good quality stuff, especially for mass produced parts.
Nice model, I got also a Dime ST Pro but in a different color, it's kind dark green, black really nice. I was wondering the same thing as you when I saw the back of the bridge. I should give some love to mine too :)

Of course, there is a tool to lock a FR in place.
I always kept a 1x4 Lego brick for that purpose. Fits perfectly from the back, between the springs.
