Your technique with the carbides just confirmed something I thought to be true. You can get "ready for a light sanding" with carbide tools. I had just started trying this approach on my last turning about 3 weeks ago. Will need to practice a bit to get is down but after watching this vid I'm convinced I'm on the right track.

I can’t believe it the other week my Mrs spotted little succulents on sale in Lidl 4 for a £5,she got me to make pots for them .Great minds think alike.
Nice one. Lidl often have good deals. Mine came from Poundland. The cactus are spikey buggers.
