    No need to put the EOS R in crop mode, leave the camera in full frame 1080 60FPS and turn on the digital stabilizer to enhanced and
    the vignette is completely removed, and you still have all shooting modes enabled.

      Hi! The camera is telling me I cannot select 60fps with the 18-35mm on the camera because of "movie cropping" but then movie cropping isn't available to disable. 60fps works fine with my Sigma 50mm on it. Any idea how i can fix this?

    • @MichaelDrowley
      @MichaelDrowley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jordan Keith it’s because the newer firmware, if you purchased the lens more recently, includes camera crop by default on the EOS R. See here www.sigma-global.com/en/news/2019/02/21/2033/

      Michael Drowley I definitely had to adjust my speedbooster to fix infinity focus, but that’s all it did. Having said that, the 18-35 is quite close to parfocal on all my cameras (4K, 6K, C200, 5D).

    @amphotography1746 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just bought it for my eos r and 1dx ii. One thing to keep in mind is that some Sigma lenses support "slow autofocus" which gives you the option to change focusing speed in video mode. 18-35 don't have that but the for example 24-70 Art has it. So no buttery smooth focus pulls on the 18-35. It is quite confusing as some canon lenses won't even support this feature. Like 16-35 2.8 ii. I found the 50 mm 1.8 stm very good lens for video and gimbal use. Shooting with that and 18-35 sigma at the moment.
    Also one thing you should test that what frame rates does eos r output to Ninja V in fullhd when ef-s lens is attached. Because when you put ef-s lens on it, and record, it won't let you shoot anything but 24/25/30fps in fhd or 4k. But when you try to record to Ninja V it records only 50/60 in full HD with full frame ef glass. Could it record 50/60 with ef-s glass to Ninja V?

    • @MichaelDrowley
      @MichaelDrowley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a really good point about slow focus. Thanks for bringing that up. I also use the 50mm f1.8 STM but I find if the subject is moving around a lot it can miss focus then hunt before it locks on again. Not good when you are using it for your main A camera. That's a good point about what it can record output to Ninja V with an ef-s lens. I wouldn't be able to confirm as I no longer have a way to test with a 4K external recorder. I tried with a HDMI to my computer but the camera recognised this was not able to output 10bit 4K so wouldn't let me test. What I do know is that you cannot record FHD 1920 x 1080 50/60 with an EF-S lens attached. It will only record 720p 50/60 fps.

    • @amphotography1746
      @amphotography1746 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MichaelDrowley Thank you for you answer! Lets see if the firmware update makes the 50mm 1.8 perform bit better. I actually shot one short commercial with it and it wasn't too bad. My subjects were pretty static though. I might test the aps-c mode with my friends ninja V. I'll get back to you if it can record full hd in 50/60 with it in aps-c mode.

    Hey brother I have this lens for my eos r. And noticed with a new r update it now's auto crops 1.6 when you connect this lens , which removes almost all vignetting and honestly I love it! Because it's like having a 30-60mm 1.8. but does that mean I sacrifice sharpness when taking photos that way? Or will I still get the full 30megapixels if I take pictures with it on crop mode?

    • @MichaelDrowley
      @MichaelDrowley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think when you take photos you’ll get full frame still so at 18 it will vignette heavily and will still vignette up to about 28mm. Not sure though on the new firmware. Take some shots and see how it performs!

    Is it comparable with the RF 28-70 F2 (used in full frame)?

    • @MichaelDrowley
      @MichaelDrowley  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Bouhnik Correct on the equiv focal length in crop mode and 4K however the depth of field of the crop sensor would be closer to 2.8 in terms of how it looks due to reduction in sensor size and that RF lens is one of the best on the market so I wouldn't say it's optically equivalent... But the Sigma is a beautiful looking lens and is nice and sharp so for the money it's a worthwhile purchase

    Super awesome detailed vid, thanks dude! I was looking at this lens as an entry level new lens for my RP as I have the 24-105 but am looking for a more vlogging orientated lens. What do you think between getting this sigma or waiting a bit for a canon image stabilised lens? I don’t have massively shakey hands but if its a difference of a few hundred dollars when buying a canon second hand... patience is really a virtue :D

    • @MichaelDrowley
      @MichaelDrowley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Danny! I would get something more suited to The RP full frame. The sigma is great but for vlogs you can't open the lens up all the way to the 18mm without vignetting. If you are sticking to 4K vlogs, then the lens may work for you but there has been a firmware update on the lens and the RP body since I released this video so I wouldn't be sure it will work the same for you as it does for me! I would say the RF 15-35 IS lens is pretty amazing but comes at a premium price of course! Good luck with the purchase decision!

    so if i want to have less blurry image on a video and more sharp let's say on m50 (i travel i can't carry all my camera) i need to boost iso boost aperture? i think more light make the footage less blurry right?

    • @MichaelDrowley
      @MichaelDrowley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tonny Milfiger hey Tonny, focus is what gives you sharpness in your image so make sure that is set right for the particular scene. Less blurry backgrounds (or more depth of field) then yes you boost Aperture and then adjust ISO to give you more light. As when you boost aperture you are what’s called “stopping down” the lens which means you are working with a smaller aperture in terms of the size of the hole that the image is projected through onto the sensor but the number of that particular aperture actually increases (get’s bigger) as you “stop down” which means letting less light in.

    • @MichaelDrowley
      @MichaelDrowley  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, I explain in the video. It defaults to crop mode on the EOS R as only has coverage for an APSC size camera sensor. I was able to turn crop mode off and use it natively at 28mm and up to 35mm without vignetting but newer firmware in the EOS R might restrict that now.

  • @MichaelBouhnikProductions
    @MichaelBouhnikProductions 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    How come you get a more blurred background (compression) if you're in 1080 non crop mode when zoomed to the same framing as with crop mode 1080?

    • @MichaelDrowley
      @MichaelDrowley  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's basically the width of sensor from the crop mode is less than the non crop full frame mode and therefore the achievable focal distance is shorter on the full frame image sensor because in the full frame mode the light coming from the edges of the image sensor has further to travel to produce the image than the crop mode and so it creates more blur. It's tricky to explain in a comment so maybe check out this link on it bit.ly/3ntzAWB

    • @MichaelDrowley
      @MichaelDrowley  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      SH Videography That’s a difficult question to answer. In short, no it doesn’t, as you still have all apertures available so no ‘limit” is placed on what it can do but for the same framing between the cropped in sensor and full frame sensor with the same lens on both, the full frame will maintain a larger out of focus background than the cropped sensor area because with the cropped sensor area you have to move further away from the subject to get the same framing as full frame. explains it pretty well in this post - fstoppers.com/education/understanding-how-sensor-size-affects-depth-field-312599

      Adam Kucharuk I get your point I think. You are talking about the crop mode on the camera and the APS-C lens forcing the camera into crop mode? This is only true for Canon APS-C lenses Canons EF-S lenses. The sigma allows you to use it as a native full frame lens and doesn't force the camera into crop mode. You also suggest 10 MP but the crop to APS-C from Full frame is 1.6 and means the camera is therefore 18MP equivalent in crop mode.

      @MichaelDrowley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kucharukadam Ok for RP that is different than EOS R with smaller lower MP sensor. For photo the camera would become 15MP and video would become 13MP for 1080p and 4K. The APS-C lenses have a mount that tells the camera that an APS-C lens is attached. The Sigma (and other third party APSC lenses) use an EF lens mount and not an EF-S lens mount so therefore you have to set the R/RP to movie cropping to avoid vignetting in video mode.
