- A classic routine, broadcast on the 18th August 1962 on ATV in their TV series Two of a Kind. This is an old VHS rip, if you want it crisp and fabulous-looking, please buy the DVD!
This first series is now released on DVD. Please buy it from Amazon or similar and maybe Network will put out the other few series(es) they did for ATV before they signed to the BBC. It would probably be worthwhile if you email Network DVD too. These should be available for purchase, dammit!
(Thank you Network for doing the first series at least!)
My Dad sang this often, usually to the Great Grandkids to make them laugh. I've even got a video of him, aged 93, dancing around the garden & singing it. He passed 2 weeks ago, aged 95 & we're thinking of including it somewhere at his funeral.
Hope you did. I’m guessing he would be love it.
Well when my partner died we had Bring Me Sunshine and it was very well received. I hope you were able to have this for your arrangements.
Lovely 🌹❤.. our grandpa would dance around with his " doo da dos " etc lol.. I'm so happy we have such silly memories
I'm 70 now and it still makes me cry with laughter ! What made it worse, my Uncle
was the spitting image of Eric, fabulous entertainment !
Found this clip by accident! Realised I remembered it, watching it with my Mum & Dad....strange feeling as I would only have been 5 years old, but I could even tell you what Mum was wearing and the green colour of dads cardigan with big brown leather buttons. A very stange sensation!
Wow, this must have really had an effect of you.
When I first saw this sketch, I tried adding "boom oo ya ta ta ta", in my head, to every song I heard on the radio!
I'm only 18 and I love watching these! Proof that they are timeless!! :)
From a 65 year old, it's great to hear that 😊👍
You are 28 now lol 😅
@@Marlondurran 29. Almost 30!
And may you have another 100 years on top of that.. 😂
@@Marlondurran Thanks. You too 😁
I've never forgotten this sketch. Genius. ❤
I haven't either. I live in Oz now and there is a bird call here that reminds me of this sketch every time I hear the bird's version of Boom Oo Yata-Ta-Ta.
Never be bettered, 73 and remember seeing this , genius
Absolutely brilliant humour... 'silly' but actually very clever co-ordination required.
rehearsed to death, performed to perfection. that was their secret. came from the stage where they had to be on the ball live every night.

Fabulous sketch. They were brilliant and made everything look so natural!!! I loved them to bits❤❤💯👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Comedy genius. Pure faultless entertainment. In my humble opinion , never surpassed.
I have waited 50 years to see this again and was not disappointed;simply great!
Absolute genius comedy. 50 years later It Is still funny.
Very clever and good timing, no swearing. Professional and funny too!
I remember this from when i was a lad in the late 60s, who would think they would be come our finest comedy act, still brings a mile to my face, Eric you were a genius.
Laurel and Hardy , Morecambe and Wise the two greatest comedy duos ever . Timeless .
Fantastic nobody has never got close to them. Sadly missed!
Well one duo has but different type of act.
"Do you know it" says Ern......and Eric quickly replies, "Naaaw, but you don't know it either" Absolutely brilliant!
Hadn't thought about this for years, but I remember it like it was yesterday.
Comedy Genius Again, thanks Eric and Ernie, for making my day, Stay Safe Everyone, XX
I woke up with this running through my head this morning! Not heard it for decades :-)
What a great memory of days and comedians sadly long since gone .Thanks
As a young kid of about 3 or 4 I think we actually had a record of them doing the 'Boom Oo Yata Ta' I would plat it over and over again. Never seen this before , great thanks for upload
2 comic genius's I miss those Christmas shows they use to do even now.
The thing about Eric Morecomb, was that he was so very human. All those James Bond films that came out then, with him being suave and sophisticated did nothing for me, but Eric and Ernie were at the other end of the spectrum, unashamedly childlike and silly. Absolutely fantastic!
In fairness they were different genres but I agree M&W had a charming innocence. Best comedy duo ever in my opinion.
Lucia Tilyard . I remember this sketch but using a different song
it started with the line 'will you miss me tonight when I'm gone'. I was at uphill primary school at the time and there were only two channels on the telly. we all went circling around the playground singing boom oo ya ta ta ta. crazy orwhat?
You're right! I've searched and searched, but I can't find any recording with that song on it . They released a 45rpm single, but that was Are You Lonesome, etc. It was a nice catchy little tune, (and it fitted in the rhythm of the sketch better), but they were either not using the whole song, or it was just a couple of bars rustled up by a handy musician. I'm still looking!

Maurice Hawkins I agree, I have that record somewhere, I must look for it. Thx
I am 73 and remember watching this.Strange how certain events stick in the old grey cells and others dont.
I was nine at the time and the next day we all tried to sing it in the playground. 😊😊😊
I love picturing that!
Waayhaay! 😀That's great.
My 2 sisters and I used to 'boom oo yatatata' a lot 😊
@@TheGreatPresenter So did myself & my 2 Sisters 😊👍
just taught my 3 year old grandaughter this she loves it.
I cried with laughter the first time I saw this. Brilliant.
Me too.
I grew up with this and I love it. I'm 21 and yet I love the 60s
I grew up LISTENING lol to this!(way back in the late 70's!) the tune never left.now I can actually SEE how it was made...hilarious.Showed my teenaged daughter what mum listened to lol.brings back childhood memories while getting dressed for school!
Nice to see Dick Hills and Sid Green get some credit as their writers
I remember their ATV series 2 of a kind written by those two. I thought it was hopeless. And they kept appearing in sketches. It was Eddie Braben who deserves all the credit. He made them what they became imho.
@@stephenreeds3672 Spot on, Hills and Green whilst decent writers were no good in front of the camera
@@dlamiss I liked those two guys in this, not trying to outshine M&W. Also this sketch was our first brush with M&W -as played by our mother who came home from work saying she had seen these two guys on tv somewhere (our not having a tv) in which they try to outdo each other by interrupting with a "oom oo yatatata". As she proceeded to act it out.(pretty well too as she had been stage entertainer herself) we kids fell about laughing. Even after we had tv * M&W had moved on to other sketches (maybe even the 'better' ones by Eddie Braben the poster below yours said he preferrered, our favourite entertainment by them started off with our mother's own reprise of "boom ooh yatatata" .
A never to be forgotten experience for years afterward.
The Great Eric & Ernie , I loved watching them as a kid along with my dad. The good old days
Remember seeing this classic sketch when it was first on tv, and it’s still a gem.
Simply brilliant comedy ,miss them on TV even to this day .
My dear old dad was 28 when this was on I was a wee lad of 3 but I remember throughout my life my dad impersonating Eric and singing this to me to make me laugh. They brought so many happy memories and can make you smile just about through anything. Bloody funny and so clever.
I just remembered we had this on 45 pretty much says it all
"He's a happy little soul" Pure adlib
Eric Morecambe, gone but not forgotten
ATV ditto - gotta love the little box in top right corner of the screen (after 5:15) saying the adverts were coming :-)
Bloody brilliant - such happy memories . One of their best. Brian
Everybody remembers their unforgettable Christmas Specials in the 70s.
However running in tandem with theses shows, they were also on the road.
I was lucky enough to see them twice at the Winter Gardens Margate in the mid 70s.
Unbelievably funny and very clever, timing honed to perfection.
Whatever they did live or on TV was funny, but I think they were what they were most of there careers a, that is brilliant live performers.
Can't beat Morecambe& Wise Brilliant
Hard to believe its 58 years old and its still so funny.
I done this for my kids and they passed it on to my grandchildren then who knows, will they pass it on. A great laugh.
My dad and I used to start it off at family gatherings. Everyone knew it so people would join in. Oh happy days 😅
In years to come, if anyone asks the question, "Why were Morecambe and Wise the greatest double-act of their time", then please refer them to this clip!
Classical Stephen
Stephen Timms this or mr preview.
Laurel and Hardy are the greatest double act of all time, and don't you forget it, mate.
Mr preview better known as Greig piano concerto.
rackinfrackin I liked Abbott and Costello doing "Who's on first". 😂😂😂
@@rackinfrackin Laurel and Hardy were great. But they primarily made films. Morecambe and Wise did a live double-act to a studio or theatre audience, and sketches. L & H and M & W are not directly comparable. It's a bit like comparing Peter Sellers and Tommy Cooper.
Genius. British humour at its best.
Absolute genius. Still hilarious after all these years.
They were great comedians. Thanks for sharing.
When this was released on record they couldn't use the song 'Are you Lonesome Tonight' for copyright reasons, so producer Wally Ridley came up with a similar tune 'Do you miss me tonight', clever stuff..
I grandad played this for me when I was about 5 and again when I was 8 still remember it from this day
Just pure innocent comedy.
I saw this when it was first transmitted ..I was 12 and laughed so much my face hurt for days afterwards.
Sid and Dick were their first and greatest scriptwriters...
Braben was their greatest writer. Hill and Green stifled them by having to be semi present on the shows
David R Coe I never knew that, thanks!
dlamiss Oh, didn't know that either 🙏🏻. I've learned so much today and it's all been hilarious. Thank you.🙏🏻
a sheer delight to see this again !! ...thank you !!
I've been looking for this one for years! So glad to have finally found it.
got this tune in my head the other day. God bless YT!!
lost in youtube and found this video... No regret..
Love this, hilarious and not a foul word!! two of the all time best
My Dad had the single of Boom-oo-yatta-tata in his record collection...not seen the original clip before..
Love it simply love it
Grew up watching them .
Never ever get tied of them and there skeches.
And not just them .
Benny hill
Two ronnies
Dick enery show
All british clasics
2022 in Canada and I still love this. Only got the boom to go lol.
The bit where Ernie fluffs the lyrics to 'Won't You Play A Simple Melody' is hilarious because of the way Eric deals with it. Ernie is obviously in some difficulty and Eric comes to his rescue in the most professional manner, which may have actually made the mistake go unnoticed by most of the audience. His friendship to Ernie is so obviously true, for him to have recognised that he was in desperate need of help and he came to his rescue without hesitation. Then, knowing he'd gotten Ernie back on his feet, he threw him under a bus by making it known that he'd messed up. That's a friendship, right there. Be there to help, be there to take the mickey. The fact that it makes Ernie laugh so hard, is a sweet moment of friends getting a laugh from one another without any bitterness. Fleeting moment, but one which says so much about why their partnership had that magic. No bad air when a joke is made at their expense, because the loyalty is already proven. Eric didn't get the laugh in the heat of Ernie's problem, he got it when he knew he'd rescued him and everything was fine. Like how you'd be serious if a friend injured themselves, then crack jokes about it when they recovered from it. Lovely stuff.
Amazing. I don't even know how they did it. Probably a mixture of talent and extreme hard work. And fun.
I met Eric Morcambe a long time ago. Funny sketch!!! Remember seeing it at the time -- their show was a weekly highlight.
superb , talent at its finest
When you wonder where Reeves and Mortimer get their act from you need look no further.
Eric and Ernie best British double act. 👍👍👍
I don't think we will ever see the like again.
The tissues are inning out whilst I am wiping the tears away.
its true. Eric Morecambe was a comedy genius as was Ernie wise. Ernie was always picking away at Eric and yet when you saw him pull that face and quiver his lips he was so like a child who has been told off. some of the replies he said were near the knuckle but certainly tame by today's standards
a TRUE comedy genius and we loved him and boy do we miss him now! what's more; how did he do the bag trick? alas when he died he took the secret with him. the day he died was a sad day for comedy and no mistake.
Maurice Hawkins the bag trick is quite simple, you hold the bag between your thumb and middle finger and them move them like you’re snapping your fingers. Nobody could do it like Eric though.
He wont sell many ice creams going at that speed ! Oh the thinks w remember from our youth !!!
That was Eric and ern in bed very fun
I still say that line every time an emergency vehicle goes past.👍🏻
@@valaudae1809 me too 😊
Priceless and brilliant
so fantastic ...great show
TV Is lost without them, they were fantastic
Great. Brings back memories of Eric and Little Ern.
Love them, so many good memories and such wonderful laughs miss them xx
Wow they look young!
Never seen this one before. Genius!
They were the epitome of family entertainment. Brilliant comedy.
Love it! I keep coming back...
Real brilliant British humour, never dirty, just perfect.
I LOVE THESE TWO!! Eric has the cutest smile :)
YES I've wanted to see the actual sketch for ages :D
Love the bloke in the audience's raucous laughter at Ernie's 'he's an ooer' comment about Sid!
always loved this sketch
The "Won't you play that simple melody" and "Musical Dreamers" song is the same thing they used when they had Elton John on the show :P
Their astonishing naturalism (almost flatness) was both typical of their northern upbringing, but also undersold some of the greatest comedy material in British history. And Eric was a master in a way that I think he never truly realised. And we all know where that led.
Best double act by a country mile...
Brilliant!
I’m watching in 2024!! There’s a statue of Ernie outside of our post office!! Very sadly no
Eric. He’s in Morcame. Should’ve done both together in both places.
Absolutely magic.
Ohhhhhh these two were and still are my favourite comedians...they were the best...mind you Eric Morecambe or Eric Barthlomew as was...is from my old home town Mrecambe......but ya still cant beat Northern humour..... :)
I would find it hard to pick between morcombe and wise and the two ronnies as they were 2 great double acts and are still great to watch today.
I really miss them :-(
What really kills me are Eric's ad libs - brilliant!
Ha! I'd only ever seen the later version where the song is, " Will you miss me tonight when I'm gone".
These 2 guys have helped me pull girls for years.. the invisible ball in paper bag...god i love thses 2..
The invisible ball in paper gag was also used in Everybody Loves Raymond - Ray does it to distract Debra when she's speaking to the radio agony aunt on the phone!
Just funny no innuendo no tasteless rubbish only joy giving laughs.😅
Truly missed, and Christmas TV not the same with out the due at Christmas .
Look at Eric's Trousers. Ironed in creases UP TO THE WAISTBAND. My Uncle Ernie used to have trousers like that.
remember watching this a long way back... funny then ,,, even funnier now
Good clean fun, not a hint of coarseness, swearing or double entendres and it's still funny today,
brian elliot ooh that's pushing it a bit though eh? 😂
Arsenal.
Two old men in deckchairs....
They are best picker upper when you feel down
love this sketch, a bit like a British "who's on first" Abbot and Costello sketch or "the hedge sketch" Awesome when done this good
Funnily enough, M&W were huge Abbott and Costello fans, they would go to the movies until they knew the sketches backwards.
All the right notes but in the wrong order.
