I worked with Frankie in the early 1970s, at the London Palladium. I was only 19, and green as grass. After the very long panto run we had a big party at the White Elephant restaurant on the Thames, and I got absolutely bladdered. I could hardly stand up. Frankie was very kind and arranged for me to get a taxi to get home. He was a lovely man, but like many comics, complex and oft-times troubled.

    Classy and classic.
Coincidentally, I watched an episode of Richard Osman's House of Games today (Nov 22 2023) and the contestants had to locate the birthplace of Eric Morecambe on a map. One of the 'celebrities' confessed she had never heard of Eric Morecambe. Even the usually placid and non-flustered Osman couldn't disguise his shock. Welcome to old age (only 59 as I write).

You're right, they were polar opposites really, Bruce thrived on 'off the cuff' whereas it terrified Frankie, as Parky said some have a comedy disposition but others it's a carefully honed craft, luckily for the viewer to quote another great "you can't see the join" (and I don't mean hair pieces)
