its incredible seeing how different the cannons and muskets from The last of the Mohicans looks from almost every other movie. In other movies, they either put in a tiny amount of gunpowder so the smoke is barely a puff, or they must be using some other propellant for their blanks that doesn't create much smoke, so it looks fake as hell. The cannons are even worse, sometimes they don't even move back from recoil when firing and instead let out a miserable looking tiny puff of smoke. Compare that to The Last of The Mohicans, and you see a massive cloud of thick smoke shooting out when the cannons fire, and even the musket smoke is impressive looking. Master and commander does a pretty perfect job too.
Was itching to watch war movies Meanwhile many site like Netflix shows movies tag as war where there is no war being shown in screen, no combat tactic shows 😂
Thanks for watching and the comment! Not going to disagree with you there about The Patriot and any 'Best Of" Lists ;-) But, the list criteria was primarily ranked by massive battle scenes and with that, The Patriot does deliver...
Thanks for watching and the note...we'll add it to the article. We mostly try to focus on films post-1970 but you are correct, that's a classic and should at least be listed on the main article.
Yea I also wrote this in comment And the Russian one is best however all the adaptation is another level But Russia putting 100k people makes it excellent war depiction
What no 'charge of the light brigade' with david hemmings, or 'khatoum' with charlton heston, '55 days in Peking', 'captain hotatio hornblower' gregory peck, northwest passage with spencer tracy, 13 assassins, last samurai, 7 samurai, barry lyndon, the hidden valley with michael cane.....these are all excellent examples of this subject as are 'revolution' al pacino, 'damn the defiant' alex guinness, 'the pride and the passion' frank sinatra and sofia lauren.
Thanks for watching the video and for your comment! The Early Modern Warfare Period is generally from 1500 - 1854. The Charge of the Light Brigade is set during the Crimean War (1853 - 1855) and is often noted as the beginning of the Industrial Warfare age (which we'll be covering in our next article and video). This film will definitely be on our next list and likely the first film in the video (like how The Profession of Arms in this video was noted as the transition from Medieval Warfare to Early Modern Warfare as heavy artillery was introduced in the battlefield). Khartoum is set in the late 1800's and most of the other films you mentioned are listed in our article here - kneelbeforezod.io/best-early-modern-warfare-films/. We actually love Barry Lyndon and think Revolution is a vastly underrated film, but we had to judge films by the massive battle scenes they had and they fell just short of the Top 20.
@@KBZFilm thanks for your comment. I understand you have to have a cut off, but Vicrtoria's little wars really crossed periods of warfare. I get MO, enjoyable video!
If you guys like this list watch RedTide movie too based on romance of the three kingdoms Also One legendary Russia movie War and peace based on legendary Russian writer Tolstoy The movie literary had 100 thousand people in the war scenes as extra Also I think lord of the war writer got inspired from the novel
Hi and thanks for the comment! For the different warfare eras, we segmented them out per Wikipedia. The Early Modern Warfare Era is from 1500 - 1854 AD (with the Siege of Sevastopol in 1854 starting the Industrial Warfare Era). As for Waterloo and historical context, that film would take place during the Industrial Era but in terms of warfare, would be included with Early Modern Warfare due to tactics, technology, etc. We have more info on the article for this video and also a list of all films set during the Industrial Age here: Best Early Modern Warfare Films - kneelbeforezod.io/best-early-modern-warfare-films/ List of Films Set During the Industrial Age - kneelbeforezod.io/tag/historical-films-set-during-the-industrial-age/
Thanks for watching and the comment! Completely agree that some of the films on the list are bad. But the rankings were by massive battle scenes of the warfare era so that's why certain films are included. Sovereign's Servant also is a mess of a film but has a really good battle scene in its third act. The criteria used for the list and subsequent ranking is also how a film like The Patriot made an appearance :-)

thank you for this ranking

Thanks. I came across ten to twelve films in your list that I have not seen. This is a good way to survey categories or genres of film.
Glad it was helpful!
"Tha Patriot" has no business being on any "best of" list.
The aesthetic of the movie was great or are you British ,😏

And certainly not in third place!
The Patriot was just a Mel Gibson ego pic or are you Australian?
War and Peace by Sergei Bondarchuck should definitely be on this list. That film is an insane feat of cinema.

Waterloo greatest war film ever made. They don’t make em like that anymore

The Alamo could have been way better had Disney not been involved.
2007 was a great year for war film enthusiasts and guys who liked to play dress up.

A lot of these have huge amounts of amess crap in them. Especially warriors of the dawn and the admiral are to be avoided.
