Great video. Can you do another video of treadmill walking with a ruck or weighted vest soon? I’m very fit and take cardiac meds that slow my heart rate down. I have a very hard time getting my heart rate into the 60-70% of max range without doing crazy incline and speed combos (like 8% + 4.2mph). Thanks for all of your great vids. I watch every one.
Paul - due to an arthritic right knee (partial replacement sched for nov) I rely on my recumbent bike for my cardio. Do you have recommendations for settings for this based on a 30 min workout? Thanks

I have been doing 30-60 minute walks in my neighborhood. Average 100-105 steps/min. I live in a hilly area, about 300+ feet from bottom to top. So far, it's been good. I'm 70 yo.
I have been walking 8,000 to 15,000 steps daily for the last few weeks and have noticed body fat loss at a very fast pace (Started at around 23-25%) body fat. Walking really works for fat loss as Paul explains in this video.
I love walking. Not a runner. I walk 5.5 miles on weekdays and 7.7 on weekends. I have done a few 11 mi walks. Going to do an Endless Mile in Oct, for 6 hrs. I do weight training as well. Don't really think of walking as exercise but an offset to my desk job. I walk fasted as well. I have dropped inches off my waist. It has helped my mental outlook so much.
12k-16k steps a day for me MANDATORY. Walking is my favorite form of cardio, then the elliptical comes in 2nd place. I keep my BPM @112-140. It works for me. Thank you for this video, Paul.

Seeing your treadmill setup made me realise that its ok to get comfortable in my space. I’m 71. Walking does work done this way, along with some strength training and proper diet! 30 minutes is perfect for me, but like he says, 60 occasionally is awesome. Incline and speed is important. Change it up now and then to keep your body guessing. My friends ask what I’ve been doing and it’s fun to tell them I’ve been walking. It’s a heck of a lot easier than doing solid weight training at my age! Great video and it verified that what I do works!

But none of them tell you exactly how to do it and at what level, speed or incline! I’ve been wanting to get a treadmill for the past couple of months to burn some fat as it rains 75-80% of the time in the UK! I have been walking for 10 years now and I can tell you that it has really worked wonders. The main reason I started walking instead of jogging or sprinting is that I don't need any special equipment. I'm one of those types of people who look for excuses not to exercise. So I had to start very simply. I can walk in my everyday shoes, and I walk for 45 minutes at the same time every day, no matter what the weather is like. There's no more room for excuses.
I've been following you for a few years now. For context, I'm 5'9", 180 lbs., been working out since I was 14 (I'm 46 now), still work out 6x a week (including cardio), and I'm a retired Navy Chief, so fitness has been part of my life. I love your content. I have been using the 30/3/12 method on the treadmill for a long time now. 30 minutes, 3mph, and 12 incline (that's the highest incline my treadmill goes to). It was the best fat burner cardio I've ever done. I lost nearly 20 lbs. But I plateaued quickly. I changed it up and started doing 35-45 minutes, and up to 3.5mph. Then I plateaued with that so I started wearing a 20lb weight vest. After a while, I noticed I wasn't losing any more weight. So this past June, I started walking outside for 50 minutes to about 1 hour and 15 minutes. There are some major inclines and flats. And just like that, I lost about 14 lbs. again. I also switched to a 40 lb. weight vest that I'll alternate on some days. My cardio walking days are Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Truly, walking is the king of cardio and helps you save your gains. Your advice is true to the core = cardio + caloric deficit = shredded. Walking on an incline adds extra fat burning, and using a weighted vest is the final icing on the cake. I live in Southern California so walking outside can happen daily. But it will rain and get cold sometimes and those are days I'll go back to my treadmill. I truly appreciate your videos. Thank you.

Awesome ! I’ve been wondering for a while now what you were doing on the treadmill. I 100% agree with walking to lose fat. I’ve lost 50-60 LB of fat in the last 13 months and gained 10-15 LB of muscle by strength training and walking every day for 45 min in the park with my wife. But I also occasionally do more intense walks on my treadmill and will try out what you have shown here Thanks Paul !!

I'm Glad you addressed those individuals who hang onto the machine once they add the incline. When you look at them from the side, they are really standing up straight on the treadmill when they hang onto the handles. If you are really going up an incline, your body is leaning towards the inclined surface to maintain your balance.
Haven’t watched you in a while. Going through stuff from trauma of lost loved one. Gained 15 pounds over last few months but this video was motivating . Start small and be consistent. I’m going to get on my incline Nordic Trac in the morning . Thanks Paul ❤

Thank You for your video, you are right I start the gym at 5 am I do 10 minutes treadmill, bicycle, or Lithia machine then I start my workout then I head to work I have energy all through the day. I am 50 and walk 7 km with a weighted vest over an undulating circuit outside almost every day. I lift weights in the a.m and walk before I cook dinner much later in the day. I have told people for years that walking is the best habit to get into. Walking aids in recovery of weight sessions (both muscle and system fatigue) and recovery of daily stress. I add a light to moderate weighted vest to my walking routine as this helps with low intensity fat burn and acts as an accessory to weight training, especially squats. A weighted vest helps enormously with bracing and targets muscles during a walk that aid in squatting but aren't getting enough attention in a weight session. Walking is the king. Oh and of course it is without a doubt the best fat burning habit. As Paul says sure you can smash yourself with HIIT training or boxing sessions which WILL definitely strip fat off but those types of approaches is burning the candle at both ends and is only good for a limited time before injury or fatigue or both catch up. Listen to Paul I can definitely say through personal experience he's on the money with his advice.

i had a friend in high school who was overweight, he went to Greece for an entire summer and had to walk or ride a bike and came home so lean....it works!
12+ hour fasted state, then wake up and go right to the elliptical for 45 minutes, 5x/wk. Always works for me. I want to incorporate more walking/hiking into the mix. Thanks Paul!
He lolks very fit. Im 5'8 , 64 yrs old and presently at 205, down from 234 in May I did stop for about 2 to 3 weeks as I almost kicked the bucket 2 months ago in Sept . I was so excited to add this to my routine, but honestly I had to change it up a bit, was too easy. Im very suprised he breathes so heavily at the end, even though he is talking, my breathing was normal ( not talking to anyone though) but not close to being fit as him, im miles behind. I continue to work.on my treadmill and lift weights, been lifting since in my 30s, but im guilty of eating badly and its so difficult to stop the bad habit, even though i have been better in the last couple months but not strict enough when coming to eating, far from it.
My only cardio since February has still only been walking on the treadmill daily, 45 mins at 4.2 speed, 3 incline. During the summer, I did also get outside on some days for a some sun and walking for an additional 45 minutes, but it was much easier as there is no incline. Down 23 pounds total, and that includes my summertime bbq and beer debauchery lol. Walking is the king...especially to those of us over 50.
Paul your the man dude I've been subscribed to your channel for almost two years now and I have taken my fitness more seriously in my mid 30's I've never really been that out of shape but around 30 to about 33 I ended up being really lazy and sedentary and ate a lot of junk but in the past year and a half I've done 6 to 8 hours of walking and calisthenics and some weight training here and there and eat better thanks to your content for motivation 🙌 I feel better at 36 then I did a decade ago lol
I just started adding walking everyday after lifting. I thought I was getting enough cardio w/ HIIT workout 3x a week & didn’t believe walking would do anything. I’m at 3.8 speed at 10% incline for 20mins & the fat is coming off quick. It’s made a believer out of me I thought I would have to run to burn off fat
I'm always on the treadmill if I'm watching football, hockey, F1 etc. Multiple 30 minute sets with 10 minute breaks. Each session easily nets 2 hours of walking.
I'm 32yrs and I've been walking 10,000 steps a day and lifting 4-5 days per week. And for some reason, I haven't lost much weight/inches. I'm in a slight calorie deficiency and my husband and I started using a weighted vest for one of my 30min walks per day about a month ago. My walks are outside (w some hills on the path) and inside on a slight incline, walking pad 3.8 speed. My lifting workout plan is a combination of upper and lower body days with one to two full body workouts per week. I rest for 2 days a week but still get my steps in. I am eating 130g protein per day and cut out all the processed junk three months ago (I dont drink alcohol or smoke either). I clocked in at 155lb this morning, and I'm most confident at 145lbs ish. My body fat has been as low as 11% when I was 23yrs without even thinking about it, just loved the gym, lol. Anyway, I'm trying to cut this fat out of my life, Lol! Help meee LOL
What does your weight lifting look like ? (sets, reps, exercises). 3.8 MPH might be a little too fast as over the course of the workout your body might start to use muscle glycogen instead of fat storage. When I do my walking pad walks, I keep it at right around 2mph or less. I go for about an hour sometimes more while I'm watching tv or working though.
The weather here is finally getting nice so I can walk with jogging stroller again. Haven’t been hitting my 10k steps but have been doing more weights. Been doing 18/6 fasts
Great video bro we are in a similar age I'm a bit younger but have been counting my macros with my fitness pal, doing strength training 3-4 x week, and 60 min cardio . I am seeing my mid section get less fat each week. My goal is to have a 6 pack or at least 10-12 % BF in 90 days. I also quit binge drinking completely as that is just gonna ruin fat burning !
I am glad I found your excellent channel. I am an active senior (almost 70), 98 lbs, 4ft 11. I lift weights 3x a week & walk in between days. I started eating more protein (more than 97 grams). I don’t want to lose weight, but would like to gain muscle & lose body fat. Is achieving both possible? Should I increase calorie intake more than the 1,600calories/day I currently do? Started today 60 minutes 3 miles for me I increased the incline by 0.5% for each quarter mile and upped my speed by 0.25 ending at 6% incline 3.5 mph definitely upped my calorie burn and recorded heart rate

I could tell the difference between an incline treadmill, walk, and just walking in the park, which is flat so I’ll continue to work on the treadmill now that it’s fall/winter here in Indiana. I walk first thing in the morning for an hour like you recommend for the past four months and now I’m addicted to making sure I get my walk in every day that’s 3 miles if I can double it to 6 miles that’s 12,000 steps which is what is preferred according to my doctors. The Walking is reshaping my body, and adding to my weight loss. I’m a 63-year-old woman getting my fitness back on track and as a scientist I truly appreciate your content as the best most tangible actionable content on TH-cam for fitness. I walk on a 10 at 3-3.5 for 30 minutes with 27lb pack pause and remove the pack and then finish out the rest to get to 2 miles with sprinting on 1.5 incline and speed between 7-10. It gets me to about 700 calories burned. I am huffing and puffing when finished but in about 5 minutes I’m fully recovered
I’ve watched your videos for a few years now and appreciate your honest advice. I had shoulder surgery a few months ago and unfortunately gained a bit of a belly while recovering. Im back to weight training now but have never liked cardio. I would like to try your morning 30 minute treadmill workout to drip the excess around my belly. How long should I wait before hitting the weights after doing the treadmill?
Your walking vids are very good. This is the second one I came across, so I think I'll subscribe now. A question. Last summer, the summer of 2023, actually spring, summer, early fall 2023, I walked 6 days a week, Sundays off, alternating between what I called short 1 hour walk days and long 1 1/2 or more hour walk days, outdoors, occasionally longer hikes on the long days. And most of the time there are some hills involved. It took a few weeks to work up to it, but then over those months i noticed a real change, i felt so much better, and my pants got noticeably looser. But when winter hit I stopped. My question, other than on a major snowstorm day when I skip the day or use the treadmill at the gym, for the outdoor walking which is most of the time, would I get any less of a result doing the same walking regiment in the cold and maybe wearing hiking boots with treads because of the snow over the winter compared to in the heat of the late spring, summer, early fall? If so, would I be better off doing the walking on treadmills at the gym in the winter instead of outdoors? I like the outdoors, and weather permitting it is my preference, I also feel that outdoors I can do an hour or hour and 45 minute walk or hike, my most common durations, but psychologically anywhere near that duration is really tough on a treadmill. Thanks. Oh, and here's a second question, if doing HIIT, say on a bike or treadmill in the gym, if you run out of glucose/carbs in your system to burn, or do it first thing in the morning before eating when there isn't any in your system, does your body automatically next start burning the fat after there is no more glucose/carbs available? Or does something else happen? Thanks for this answer too, if you get the chance of course.
Here in italy especially in my town we have lots of steep roads and to reach the office i have to park the car about 1 kilometer since there aren't free parking spots. Every day walking on this hill plus walking on the tapis roulant in the gym at incline is what makes me lose a lot if weigh, especially with proper diet,like eating protein as breakfast aside the classic cappuccino and brioche like many other italians or milk and biscuits

I'm 61, lift 2-3x a week, intermediate lifter, weigh 205, can bench 225. However, arthritis has just kicked into both my shoulders and there is a lot of grinding, especially in my left that I broke 14 years ago. Do you have a weightlifting routine I can follow to maintain my strength and not destroy my shoulder? I have been trying to figure one out that doesn't cause so much inflammation I can't use my left arm for days while it recovers. I end each gym visit with a 60 min hill walking routine as a fat burner. I am going to try your routine to help save my knees, which are also bone on bone.
Hi Paul. Great content as usual. Would you say that a light jog where the heart rate is between 110 and 130 would be ok for burning fat too? I’d love to walk but I definitely have time constraints when trying to get my 12,000 daily steps in.
After hitting the Gym 4 times a week since college, I decided to take my sister up on her treadmill challenge (her New toy...) After 40 mnts of slow incline & slow decline, I apologized profusely to Julie before taking a most needed shower...Dang!
well see how this works out for me. I started walking last week. Walking the streets around my complex eight times is 35 minutes. My step counter is gave me around 3000 steps for 4 laps. its four streets around. One of the streets is a steep incline. Another is a slight incline, one is a decline and the other is level.
I hate running (unless it's basketball, tennis or something), HATE IT... i love walking though. Trying to get at least 13-15k steps a day, makes me feel way better.
I did this today after my strength training. My average heart rate was 98. Is this ok ? Do I need to increase speed or incline ? I aim to do this for 6 days in a week for one month to see results for my belly fat. I watched your video again to understand more. My gym has life fitness machine. Maybe that’s why incline looks low to me, I will increase accordingly
I'd also suggest people try a CURVE treadmill like a Woodway because they're self propelled, basically hamster wheel. You burn more calories propelling yourself than you do by simply keeping up with a track that moves under you. Either way, something is always better than nothing 💪🏿😎

Awesome ! I’ve been wondering for a while now what you were doing on the treadmill. I 100% agree with walking to lose fat. I’ve lost 50-60 LB of fat in the last 13 months and gained 10-15 LB of muscle by strength training and walking every day for 45 min in the park with my wife. But I also occasionally do more intense walks on my treadmill and will try out what you have shown here Thanks Paul !!

I'm Glad you addressed those individuals who hang onto the machine once they add the incline. When you look at them from the side, they are really standing up straight on the treadmill when they hang onto the handles. If you are really going up an incline, your body is leaning towards the inclined surface to maintain your balance.

Tried this workout this morning for the 1st time. It went exactly as you described it, Paul. And I regularly walk on the treadmill and thought I was really doing something. NOT AT ALL! Definitely keeping this in my routine and look forward to improving and increasing intensity!

Thank You for your video, you are right I start the gym at 5 am I do 10 minutes treadmill, bicycle, or Lithia machine then I start my workout then I head to work I have energy all through the day. I am 50 and walk 7 km with a weighted vest over an undulating circuit outside almost every day. I lift weights in the a.m and walk before I cook dinner much later in the day. I have told people for years that walking is the best habit to get into. Walking aids in recovery of weight sessions (both muscle and system fatigue) and recovery of daily stress. I add a light to moderate weighted vest to my walking routine as this helps with low intensity fat burn and acts as an accessory to weight training, especially squats. A weighted vest helps enormously with bracing and targets muscles during a walk that aid in squatting but aren't getting enough attention in a weight session. Walking is the king. Oh and of course it is without a doubt the best fat burning habit. As Paul says sure you can smash yourself with HIIT training or boxing sessions which WILL definitely strip fat off but those types of approaches is burning the candle at both ends and is only good for a limited time before injury or fatigue or both catch up. Listen to Paul I can definitely say through personal experience he's on the money with his advice.
great video ! love the content ! after a bad back injury during the pandemic i regained over 70 pounds of mostly fat. yesterday i weighed myself and it hit me hard. going all in. going to lose 107 lbs in one year. daily walks , light workouts .. and dial in the nutrition. its video like this that help making the journey easier.. thanks once again.
I know a guy who lost his car license and had to walk more. He lost his fat and decided he didn’t want a car again!
i had a friend in high school who was overweight, he went to Greece for an entire summer and had to walk or ride a bike and came home so lean....it works!

He lolks very fit. Im 5'8 , 64 yrs old and presently at 205, down from 234 in May I did stop for about 2 to 3 weeks as I almost kicked the bucket 2 months ago in Sept .
I was so excited to add this to my routine, but honestly I had to change it up a bit, was too easy. Im very suprised he breathes so heavily at the end, even though he is talking, my breathing was normal ( not talking to anyone though) but not close to being fit as him, im miles behind. I continue to work.on my treadmill and lift weights, been lifting since in my 30s, but im guilty of eating badly and its so difficult to stop the bad habit, even though i have been better in the last couple months but not strict enough when coming to eating, far from it.

My only cardio since February has still only been walking on the treadmill daily, 45 mins at 4.2 speed, 3 incline. During the summer, I did also get outside on some days for a some sun and walking for an additional 45 minutes, but it was much easier as there is no incline. Down 23 pounds total, and that includes my summertime bbq and beer debauchery lol. Walking is the king...especially to those of us over 50.

Paul your the man dude I've been subscribed to your channel for almost two years now and I have taken my fitness more seriously in my mid 30's I've never really been that out of shape but around 30 to about 33 I ended up being really lazy and sedentary and ate a lot of junk but in the past year and a half I've done 6 to 8 hours of walking and calisthenics and some weight training here and there and eat better thanks to your content for motivation 🙌 I feel better at 36 then I did a decade ago lol

I just started adding walking everyday after lifting. I thought I was getting enough cardio w/ HIIT workout 3x a week & didn’t believe walking would do anything. I’m at 3.8 speed at 10% incline for 20mins & the fat is coming off quick. It’s made a believer out of me I thought I would have to run to burn off fat
I'm always on the treadmill if I'm watching football, hockey, F1 etc. Multiple 30 minute sets with 10 minute breaks. Each session easily nets 2 hours of walking.
I get so much thinking done when walking!!! 🚶♂️

I'm 32yrs and I've been walking 10,000 steps a day and lifting 4-5 days per week. And for some reason, I haven't lost much weight/inches. I'm in a slight calorie deficiency and my husband and I started using a weighted vest for one of my 30min walks per day about a month ago. My walks are outside (w some hills on the path) and inside on a slight incline, walking pad 3.8 speed. My lifting workout plan is a combination of upper and lower body days with one to two full body workouts per week. I rest for 2 days a week but still get my steps in. I am eating 130g protein per day and cut out all the processed junk three months ago (I dont drink alcohol or smoke either). I clocked in at 155lb this morning, and I'm most confident at 145lbs ish. My body fat has been as low as 11% when I was 23yrs without even thinking about it, just loved the gym, lol. Anyway, I'm trying to cut this fat out of my life, Lol! Help meee LOL
What does your weight lifting look like ? (sets, reps, exercises). 3.8 MPH might be a little too fast as over the course of the workout your body might start to use muscle glycogen instead of fat storage. When I do my walking pad walks, I keep it at right around 2mph or less. I go for about an hour sometimes more while I'm watching tv or working though.
Ok i am going to try this 30 min cardio session starting monday.
The weather here is finally getting nice so I can walk with jogging stroller again. Haven’t been hitting my 10k steps but have been doing more weights. Been doing 18/6 fasts

Great video bro we are in a similar age I'm a bit younger but have been counting my macros with my fitness pal, doing strength training 3-4 x week, and 60 min cardio . I am seeing my mid section get less fat each week. My goal is to have a 6 pack or at least 10-12 % BF in 90 days. I also quit binge drinking completely as that is just gonna ruin fat burning !

I am glad I found your excellent channel. I am an active senior (almost 70), 98 lbs, 4ft 11. I lift weights 3x a week & walk in between days. I started eating more protein (more than 97 grams). I don’t want to lose weight, but would like to gain muscle & lose body fat. Is achieving both possible? Should I increase calorie intake more than the 1,600calories/day I currently do? Thanks in advance.
Started today 60 minutes 3 miles for me I increased the incline by 0.5% for each quarter mile and upped my speed by 0.25 ending at 6% incline 3.5 mph definitely upped my calorie burn and recorded heart rate

@@PaulReveliaI feel Amazing, more invigorating walk for sure. A combination of zone two and zone three cardio that I track with my Apple Watch. I could tell the difference between an incline treadmill, walk, and just walking in the park, which is flat so I’ll continue to work on the treadmill now that it’s fall/winter here in Indiana. I walk first thing in the morning for an hour like you recommend for the past four months and now I’m addicted to making sure I get my walk in every day that’s 3 miles if I can double it to 6 miles that’s 12,000 steps which is what is preferred according to my doctors. The Walking is reshaping my body, and adding to my weight loss.

I walk on a 10 at 3-3.5 for 30 minutes with 27lb pack pause and remove the pack and then finish out the rest to get to 2 miles with sprinting on 1.5 incline and speed between 7-10. It gets me to about 700 calories burned. I am huffing and puffing when finished but in about 5 minutes I’m fully recovered

I had shoulder surgery a few months ago and unfortunately gained a bit of a belly while recovering. Im back to weight training now but have never liked cardio. I would like to try your morning 30 minute treadmill workout to drip the excess around my belly. How long should I wait before hitting the weights after doing the treadmill?
Your walking vids are very good. This is the second one I came across, so I think I'll subscribe now. A question. Last summer, the summer of 2023, actually spring, summer, early fall 2023, I walked 6 days a week, Sundays off, alternating between what I called short 1 hour walk days and long 1 1/2 or more hour walk days, outdoors, occasionally longer hikes on the long days. And most of the time there are some hills involved. It took a few weeks to work up to it, but then over those months i noticed a real change, i felt so much better, and my pants got noticeably looser. But when winter hit I stopped. My question, other than on a major snowstorm day when I skip the day or use the treadmill at the gym, for the outdoor walking which is most of the time, would I get any less of a result doing the same walking regiment in the cold and maybe wearing hiking boots with treads because of the snow over the winter compared to in the heat of the late spring, summer, early fall? If so, would I be better off doing the walking on treadmills at the gym in the winter instead of outdoors? I like the outdoors, and weather permitting it is my preference, I also feel that outdoors I can do an hour or hour and 45 minute walk or hike, my most common durations, but psychologically anywhere near that duration is really tough on a treadmill. Thanks.
Oh, and here's a second question, if doing HIIT, say on a bike or treadmill in the gym, if you run out of glucose/carbs in your system to burn, or do it first thing in the morning before eating when there isn't any in your system, does your body automatically next start burning the fat after there is no more glucose/carbs available? Or does something else happen? Thanks for this answer too, if you get the chance of course.

Here in italy especially in my town we have lots of steep roads and to reach the office i have to park the car about 1 kilometer since there aren't free parking spots.
Every day walking on this hill plus walking on the tapis roulant in the gym at incline is what makes me lose a lot if weigh, especially with proper diet,like eating protein as breakfast aside the classic cappuccino and brioche like many other italians or milk and biscuits

I'm 61, lift 2-3x a week, intermediate lifter, weigh 205, can bench 225. However, arthritis has just kicked into both my shoulders and there is a lot of grinding, especially in my left that I broke 14 years ago. Do you have a weightlifting routine I can follow to maintain my strength and not destroy my shoulder? I have been trying to figure one out that doesn't cause so much inflammation I can't use my left arm for days while it recovers. I end each gym visit with a 60 min hill walking routine as a fat burner. I am going to try your routine to help save my knees, which are also bone on bone.
Hi Paul. Great content as usual. Would you say that a light jog where the heart rate is between 110 and 130 would be ok for burning fat too? I’d love to walk but I definitely have time constraints when trying to get my 12,000 daily steps in.

well see how this works out for me. I started walking last week. Walking the streets around my complex eight times is 35 minutes. My step counter is gave me around 3000 steps for 4 laps. its four streets around. One of the streets is a steep incline. Another is a slight incline, one is a decline and the other is level.
I hate running (unless it's basketball, tennis or something), HATE IT... i love walking though. Trying to get at least 13-15k steps a day, makes me feel way better.
I did this today after my strength training. My average heart rate was 98. Is this ok ? Do I need to increase speed or incline ? I aim to do this for 6 days in a week for one month to see results for my belly fat.
I watched your video again to understand more. My gym has life fitness machine. Maybe that’s why incline looks low to me, I will increase accordingly

I'd also suggest people try a CURVE treadmill like a Woodway because they're self propelled, basically hamster wheel. You burn more calories propelling yourself than you do by simply keeping up with a track that moves under you. Either way, something is always better than nothing 💪🏿😎
