Well, most Apple laptops are now cheaper than most of the gaming laptops. Hell, the new M1 MacBook Air is only 999 USD. So, your argument goes out the window. Many Windows laptops in this price range have the same thing; soldered ram, fixed drive space, and can't play AAA titles... and lower build quality. That said, I'd rather spend 2K USD on a Razer or Lenovo than a MacBook, if only because of the gaming ability. But for 1k? And if I don't need to worry about playing triple A games? Apple. Your criticism of the keyboard is not insignificant and I think it’s an important point to be considered especially if you’re spending this much money. Part of the current problem with this laptop is I can’t seem to locate it in any retail store so I can “put hands on it”. I was at a Micro Center recently and they had the duo and I came to the near immediate conclusion that I did not like that dual screen at all. Furthermore I did come to the conclusion that I like the real estate of a 17 inch screen. The off center trackpad is a matter of muscle memory and will resolve itself in time. It is better than the alternative as then you would be mentioning that due to the centered trackpad you had a lot of accidental touches because you were typing normally. . .The non visible SD card slot is odd and would be a constant PITA.

But for the average Joe who doesn't have 3K to slap down on a laptop every couple years, get yourself a desktop for editing/gaming and get a laptop for light to moderate workloads. Remove the touchpad and make space for other stuff internally and externally.Touchscreen gaming laptop eventually would be the norm in the next decade and who knows how much room are there really for improvement.
@12:06 I have a new Asus M16 that experiences the same buzzing fan noise. I haven't opened it yet to determine the cause. Probably because it only seems to happen under load, and I usually have my headphones on for gaming at that point. Thought it was worth mentioning though.
After all of my bitching I thought I wanted something similar to this but at this pp a mechanical key feel on a slant is not really my jam. That number pad is a little funky and the grinding/winding or rattling noise is the cherry on top. We'll see here.. Interesting. Excellent review as always.
Trackboard, keyboard and webcam really hurts in 2021. Many people including me used to game more than work, however when covid 19 hits, we need to spend more time on work in terms of gaming.
It's because the duo SE doesn't have g-sync and therefore there is a bottleneck through the integrated gpu.... Your throwing the audience the wrong way with your factually wrong information.
@@armaanpattnaik5882 Well there are two (now three) ways for the GPU to be accessible for video output. • Directly to the GPU, which gives more performance but MUCH less battery as you'll be using your GPU for everything from gaming to looking up recipes on Microsoft Egde •Through the integrated GPU - most laptops pre-2019 and a decent chunk now instead have the GPU actually connected to the iGPU built into your CPU. That way, it switches dynamically between the lower-powered iGPU for daily tasks and the GPU for heavy tasks. The downside is that it's adding an additional check between the GPU rendering a frame and it actually getting to the screen. Usually you'll have a ~5% loss in frames due to this inherent bottleneck. Also GSYNC doesn't work with this since it needs direct access to the GPU, not through an intermediary. Recently to solve this problem newer laptops are equipped with what's called a MUX Switch. Essentially it's a controller that connects to both the iGPU AND the GPU and acts as a rail line switch of sorts - you can choose to either have everything directly to the GPU when you want more frames or through the iGPU when you're out and about. Usually with a restart in between. Now you can have GSYNC-compatible laptops that can also not have the battery life of a potato powering a mansion. This is the third way I alluded to. If you currently have a laptop without a MUX switch but want the frames back, there is another way - connecting it to an external monitor. Depending on your laptop, at least one or more of the video ports directly connects to the GPU instead of through the integrated GPU. Best way to check is to look at Display options in NVIDIA Control Panel.
More accurately, the 2021 Duo SE doesn't have a MUX switch. There are laptops without GSYNC but with a MUX switch so are able to bypass the bottleneck of being connected through an iGPU
@@armaanpattnaik5882 Yes, but if you have to choose - MUX switch over GSYNC every time. Although there are very few laptops that won't have a MUX switch if they have GSYNC
I can truly understand the frustration of the dislocation of trackpad as I'm a user of Dell 7577 in which is also a laptop that designed the trackpad on the left instead of middle. I will or for most of the time accidentally click the wrong button and my hand will always accidentally pressed the trackpad when I was typing.

I get the feeling really well when they are hard to press on the keyboard, you will get used to it in weeks as coming from someone who used normal cherry reds to glorious panda switches. Have to say those heatpipes and strange rattle would be a deal breaker for me. I had a 2019 Zephyrus S15 that was used for very light gaming (only when traveling for longer periods of time to see family). I had a fan go bad 1 month out of my Asus warranty. Company's RMA/repair process is a joke and insanely expensive. I bought a replacement fan on eBay for $30 and fixed it myself - but the heatpipes on that laptop were very similar. Yeah, you can work on it, but man it's a pain in the ass. Also just don't trust Asus build quality anymore.
Middle August, still next-to-none hi-end laptop options. My impulse purchase of Legion 7 2021 proves to be the right move so far. Conclusion: apparently, grab what you can as long as it has a good CPU, matrix and an OK GPU, then upgrade what you need

I have the earlier version and I absolutely love this laptop. I have the one that has the keyboard down at the edge and I actually like it there, but I guess it is a preference.
@@tahaabderaouffritis1161 I would say the cooling works great. If you play games that push it to the limit then of course it will get warm, but I think that is to be expected. It doesn't get dangerously hot. It's been handling everything I played including games like Cyberpunk, AC Odyssey, Total War Warhammer 3, and a bunch of other demanding games flawlessly. Also, one thing worth noting is that because the keyboard is moved down you don't put your hands where the laptop is warm. I like it this way better and in general I love this machine. Couldn't be happier. It is now 3 years old and runs every single game perfectly. I also use it for photoshop, indesing, illustrator and after effects and again, works great. Great review, although I never understand as to why Asus get rid of the numpad on trackpad from their previous Zephyrus model. That was a good feature and gives a lot of space for keyboard layout.
These comparisons aren't fair if people are using it to test AMD vs Itel. Because Intel is using 20+ watt higher constantly affecting fan, battery, temp. Also it is housed in 17" chassis allowing more room for optimization. And also as mentioned in the video some of the benchmarking results don't correctly represent the real use case, as Intel is good to go burst for 3-5 mins and then yeet down.
no touchpad is comfortable to navigate with, the idea is just dumb, if you absolutely can't use mouse there's touchscreen and "keyboard" more comfortable to use than this abomination
Funny you say that, for the first time in my life, I had to get a cheap train ticket yesterday cuz the more pricey one I usually buy was sold out at the last minute. Took out my 17 inch laptop to watch a movie in my small seat, the damn thing would not fit in the space 😭
Looks great how long before it starts to wear out? Is this a 5+ year machine or is it gonna go belly up the moment the warrenty expires? 😂 i may be mad my macbook pro has keys falling off the keyboard, but it still runs as well as the day i bought it.
I would love 16 inch screen in a 15 inch chassis... also a support in the middle of keyboard would help the keyboard flex... and for god sake please improve the speakers...

I have Omen 15 that have centered trackpad, right now its kinda dented, and the reason is because when I type, my right hand palm is pushing the right side of the trackpad, so I think it's fine to make it off centered to match the typing space
Remove the touchpad and make space for other stuff internally and externally.Touchscreen gaming laptop eventually would be the norm in the next decade and who knows how much room are there really for improvement.
Great overview, thank you 😊. Only question I have is: With that fast NVME drive, how long does it take for Windows to boot up?
Depends on OS stability. If OS works good it will boot in 5 seconds. But Windows 10 sometimes works slow then boots in 15-20 seconds
@12:06 I have a new Asus M16 that experiences the same buzzing fan noise. I haven't opened it yet to determine the cause. Probably because it only seems to happen under load, and I usually have my headphones on for gaming at that point.
Thought it was worth mentioning though.
How does the S17 compare against the MSI GE76 or Prometheus XVII? Assuming all 3 are top spec (5900HX/3080 16GB DDR6).
Your throwing the audience the wrong way with your factually wrong information.
can you elaborate more ? thank you ..
@@armaanpattnaik5882 Well there are two (now three) ways for the GPU to be accessible for video output.
• Directly to the GPU, which gives more performance but MUCH less battery as you'll be using your GPU for everything from gaming to looking up recipes on Microsoft Egde
•Through the integrated GPU - most laptops pre-2019 and a decent chunk now instead have the GPU actually connected to the iGPU built into your CPU.
@@reservoir_flow so the good thing would be a combination of G-Sync and a MUX switch .
@@armaanpattnaik5882 Yes, but if you have to choose - MUX switch over GSYNC every time. Although there are very few laptops that won't have a MUX switch if they have GSYNC
U guys should upload cinematic pics of products reviewed so that we can use them as wallpapers😅

@@Amogh-Dongre Thanks man!
I love the 20 first seconds of intro
I can truly understand the frustration of the dislocation of trackpad as I'm a user of Dell 7577 in which is also a laptop that designed the trackpad on the left instead of middle. I will or for most of the time accidentally click the wrong button and my hand will always accidentally pressed the trackpad when I was typing.
12:41 Good thing your sample only had a lemon in it. If was a grapefruit instead... ?!
3:30 im pretty sure thats Strix Scar 17, cause Strix G17 only maxed out at RTX3070 and it's way cheaper (1799?)
Yeah that's true
as Mechanical keyboeard enthusiast and avid user i absolutely hate the mechanical switch options on all of the laptop option and i prefer the feel from a chiclet style board. The clicky options are especially annoying
and obnoxious
I get the feeling really well when they are hard to press on the keyboard, you will get used to it in weeks as coming from someone who used normal cherry reds to glorious panda switches. At first I was really disappointed on how hard it was to press my keyboards, but after weeks I really love the hard press and tactility of these glorious panda switches
welcome to video of something you can't afford.
Would've liked you to compare the 5600H and RTX 3060 and GTX 1660ti as well. I get that you wanted to show the difference between watt maximums but would be cool to see.
If the ports wasn't stacked in the front and get in the way of your arms this machine would be a banger.
The results in CPU heavy games are due to the Tiger Lake. It's same in 11800H vs 5800H as shown by Jarrod's Tech and Linus. However many people love GPU heavy games. There both CPUs are same
Have to say those heatpipes and strange rattle would be a deal breaker for me.
Great review
You should review the legion 5 2021 i want to buy one but i hesitate so can you review it? (Rtx 3060 ryzen 75800h and the screen 15.6 165hz)
When you say this weekly it’s hard to get excited
As an Indian I always find it funny when foreign tech youtubers say $3000 laptop as expensive because in India the dell XPS15, the top spec model costs similarly with all taxes included here.
Yeah I know right the import duty+tax here absolutely kills all the value so I always buy all my pc parts In the US when I have to go there for an annual business trip it's so much cheaper there like the g15 costs ~90k rupees for the r9+3070 while u will not find one here less than 1.5 lakhs
@@Amogh-Dongre where? give me the link :3
Wallpaper is amazing. Please share the link to your wallpaper collection. I have noticed them on your reviews for phones as well especially the Pixel 5 Wallpaper
This crazy laptop that including mux switch so it's make me want to buy it immediately, especially the QHD and 3080 140w is da best
For me the only real objection to this laptop is its possible to get a far better workstation grade PC with a 24GB GPU for the same money. Worth considering.
2k screen is the sweet spot for me very nice
I have the earlier version and I absolutely love this laptop.
I have the one that has the keyboard down at the edge and I actually like it there, but I guess it is a preference.
does it get heated ? how is it with cooling ?
Keyboard is super pleasant, but that can be a personal preference, just like the mouspad/keypad on the right hand side.
@@mal9310 Oh thanks so much for your detailed answer, just one more question, does this machine has a liquid metal for cooling or just thermal paste ? Thank you , I'm thinking of getting one.
@@tahaabderaouffritis1161 i don't know about the new models, but I don't think so. Mine is thermal paste.
@@mal9310 So, on average, how much the CPU and GPU get heated ? under 80 ? under 70 ? Thank you, I'm sorry for my constant questions.
your videos are awesome!
are there any variants from asus zephyrus s17 which are 3tb storage, rtx 3080 and qhd 165hz display?
Wonder how this compares to similar setup of x17 from Alienware.?
I looking to get one of these but I'm not sure on storage. Do all three m.2 ports use 4 pcie lanes? I'd like full access to the gpu but don't want to loose pcie lanes to extra storage.
ASUS really needs to understand that a keyboard layout is a thing. You cannot just put in whatever you like wherever you like.
Hi do you think the 4K 120hz configuration will be ok for game ?
You should play games in 1080p. Because most of games are not capable for 4K. You will receive low fps
I know the Zephyrus g15 duo se is a 15 inch one.. But if I have the budget... which one should I choose this one (s17) or the Duo se..?
Sir, could you review Acer Swift X with RTX 3050? Thanks
Great review, although I never understand as to why Asus get rid of the numpad on trackpad from their previous Zephyrus model. That was a good feature and gives a lot of space for keyboard layout.
I enjoy my numpad/track pad on my older zephyrus!
These comparisons aren't fair if people are using it to test AMD vs Itel.
Because Intel is using 20+ watt higher constantly affecting fan, battery, temp. Also it is housed in 17" chassis allowing more room for optimization. And also as mentioned in the video some of the benchmarking results don't correctly represent the real use case, as Intel is good to go burst for 3-5 mins and then yeet down.
hey! hi. wich watch are you using?
Anyway
Would you compare the 11400H and 5600H?
Since we're finally have some competition on entry level 6core H series
Q: can just close that keyboad to make it flat?
Edit:
P.S I got same problem with touchpad's ;) I prefer middle Dell's style too...
Will you be doing an MSI GE76 Raider 11UH review?
Will you be doing a gaming review of the 2021 dell xps 17 9710?
no touchpad is comfortable to navigate with, the idea is just dumb, if you absolutely can't use mouse there's touchscreen and "keyboard" more comfortable to use than this abomination
Gaming keyboard be like
"Let's make things loud"
if u r going to compare to AMD at least use high power ones ( like legion 7 ) with mux switch, this is dumb comparison tbh
Honestly anything but 17 inches is hard to live with if you actually edit on the go.
your mom was fine with 5"
@@yesilbursa yeah but that's her, what if I want a bit more? I have feelings too 😭
Funny you say that, for the first time in my life, I had to get a cheap train ticket yesterday cuz the more pricey one I usually buy was sold out at the last minute. Took out my 17 inch laptop to watch a movie in my small seat, the damn thing would not fit in the space 😭
@@mini9503 I hate when that happens too
Can't wait for more 11th gen results.
Looks great how long before it starts to wear out? Is this a 5+ year machine or is it gonna go belly up the moment the warrenty expires? 😂 i may be mad my macbook pro has keys falling off the keyboard, but it still runs as well as the day i bought it.
I think the location of the trackpad is to avoid touching while typing. Since we normally type with only the letters.
I would love 16 inch screen in a 15 inch chassis... also a support in the middle of keyboard would help the keyboard flex... and for god sake please improve the speakers...
That logo alone makes me not want to buy it…
Why didn't you compare it's gaming performance to the Lenovo Legion 7?
Because nobody can get them, and they probably don't have a review unit. I think the Legion 7 would be a better buy over the s17 though. Take a look at @JayzTwoCents video: Gaming on the Ultimate Portable Setup… with a twist…
Ofc there is a catch. Its a laptop...
Will you make a video with the razer blade 17 i7 11800h with either the 3070 or 3080
Question is what is liquid metal going to do to hardware over time
Hello guys, I've seen another video about this laptop and they stressed that the connection between GPU and CPU was PCIe Gen 4 x8. Is this something unusual on laptop basis? or does it impact on the performance?
A 3 thousand dollar notebook with no HDMI 2.1 and no Thunderbolt. Is Asus mocking us?
Posted it before the part that he said that one RAM is soldered. That's a prank notebook, now i'm positive
they never said 'up to 45w' they say its rated AT 45w base. meaning at base clock (the one thats not boost) it should use around 45w. they dont call it boost because it'll use 45w at that clock
