Great vid! Made me aware of some good games that I didn't know about. I find that I forget about the title of the game by the time you've finished showing it... I will write some of the titles here for other viewers. ... Honourable mention: CJ's Elephant Antics 10. Gladiators 9. Draconus 8. Slayer 7. The Greed Monster 6. Zamzara 5. Zybex 4. Titanic Blinky
A nice Video. Have got a few of these. Got my C64 in 1987 and have been a fan ever since. Zamzara and Slayer are my favourites from the list, but also seeing some for the first time. Thanks for sharing. Very well put together.
What comes after the Silverbird Selection? As someone who had a CPC, but played on my mates C64, some of these bring back great memories and some I've never heard of!
Yes, Zybex made it!!! As someone who has a lot of knowledge of budget C64 games (and a fellow stokie), I have to say that this is a very well-considered list that has been thought out very well. I still play Zybex regular, and I still suck at it.
A varied selection for this top 10 - you could have easily done top 10 by each budget label. For me, there are some which I'd include in this particular category: Slicks (Codemasters) - excellent top down racing game with superb playability Tilt (Codemasters) - really nice tilt the ball into the target game and really good use of C64 hardware Arnie (Zeppelin) - great Commando / Ikari Warriors type game from Chris Butler, with plenty of playability Everyone will have their own favourites for definite, but nice to see Zybex, Draconus, Slayer and Zamzara in here - all excellent titles and well worth playing today.
As I've mentioned in other comments, I totally missed Slicks for some reason, so that's annoying. I'll make sure I check it out when I do an overall budget Top 20 for all publishers 🙂 Tilt is another one I've heard of but never played and I'm not sure why I missed it. I probably gravitated towards genres I know I like. Arnie was considered but I found it a bit boring - those kind of run and gun games have never been my knd of thing. I'm not a fan of Commando for example. But as you say, everyone will have their favourites.
Agree with Zybex, Draconus and Kwik Snax :-) Couple I would have had were Slicks and Bubble Dizzy (Agreed I never really got on with the action adventure Dizzy games) Good list :-)
A nifty list of games, most of which I’ve never heard of! I love the look of Draconus, so moody! Had I played it I would probably not be able to finish it. Looks intriguing to try get further in anyway! Pity so few games had in game music, considering the SID chip…
Draconus is very hard, I definitely recommend using a cracked version with extra lives etc. It is a shame so few games had music - it seems to be a feature of budget games generally, aside from Mastertronic who had loads of great Hubbard and Whittaker tunes in their games.
Hey Man found your channel through Gygerpunk just subbed , love these bargain game review . saving up your lunch money and getting a few on a saturday morning !!
There is a bit of crossover between my budget game "best of" videos and the Budget Publisher Showdown as obviously they are both looking at the top games in the ranges. I do have a Top Ten Full Price Originals video (th-cam.com/video/dsURu2C3WIc/w-d-xo.html) and a Top Ten Arcade Conversions (th-cam.com/video/WmhqsggpJSs/w-d-xo.html) and I'll be occasionally covering full price games in my Gaming Vault series.
Brilliant video! I do love budget games. I knew of all of these but some I need to go back and get some playtime with having watched your vid. I would add Arnie, because the 2 player mode is fun, and a guilty pleasure Death Race by Atlantis, it's a clone of Sega's game Turbo. Some of the cassette art of early Atlantis games have a very cheap weird 80s charm to it. Considering you have a couple of Rackit games in there I think that would also make a good review series, most of their games were well put-together.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Arnie was on the initial list but didn't make the final cut as I found it a bit repetitive. I've never been a huge fan of those Commando-style run and guns. The Rack-It range is good for sure with some high quality games for the price, but I'm not planning to do another collection review series once I'm done with Firebird. Plenty of other ideas in the pipeline though!
yes Elephant Antics is way over rated. I never got on well with Slayer. Great to see Turbo the Tortoise seriously underrated that one, Im a big fan of the Dizzy games but i'm surprised there were not racing games here (Slicks, Carnage were great budget top down racers)
A few of these ended up on Zzap! and Commodore Format cover tapes. Those were the days, walking home from school wondering want to play tonight.

Thanks, and yes that's a good point. I will start adding the top ten in the video description or in a comment in future videos of this type.

Thanks for watching. Yeah, those two Rack-It games were very good for to budget price range.

I have plans for a couple of new series, all will be revelaed in due course 🙂

Yeah, it's a brilliant game but very hard. Glad you enjoyed the list duck 😁

Thanks, I've not played Bubble Dizzy and totally missed Slicks annoyingly.
There were a lot of games here I'd not even heard of so thanks for doing this round-up, it was very educational!
Great, hope you find a couple of new games that you enjoy.

Great video, thanks, definitely will try to find the time to give some of these games a play.
Glad you enjoyed it, I hope you enjoy some of the games if you play them.

Thanks for subscribing. If you like reminiscing about those old budget games then this is the channel for you 😁
So glad I found you! You need to branch out to full price c64 games sometimes, though. As I keep seeing the same games in multiple video's.

Some Good Choices Good Video.
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Zybex and and Draconus were superb..zamzara..rack it from Hewson games..super nudge 2000..I-ball ...so many superb games
I remember having Zybex & Draconius for the Spectrum. They Where both well worth the money.

Another excellent, zero nonsense video with just the right level of detail and time on each game. Looking forward to trying a few of these!
Thanks 🙂 hope you find something new that you like!

I wasn't aware of Carnage but I'm annoyed I forgot Slicks, not sure how it slipped through my selection process to be honest!
It certanly proves that a lot of Budget games are just as good as Full Priced ones if not better.
Just started to watch... Let's see if Zybex is on the list... I hope so...
Battle valley
Good game - it was in the running but wasn't quite as good as the ones I chose in my opinion 😀
