      New subscriber here. Absolutely enjoyed this reaction. You two together are really entertaining. I would highly suggest that you two react to The Prayer video by this group. Mitch really really shines through in this song. I promise you will not be disappointed at all. I feel that it is their best cover to date. Other songs to react to are Shallow and The Sound of Silence.

      Can't disagree with that in the least! These ladies charmed me to death...witty, talented in their trade, intelligent, spirited and hilarious with amazing sense of humor. What's not to like? And you're both beautiful....inner and outer. I went to get educated a bit about Holly after watching this, and MJ hit it on the head with the suggestion of "more!" PLEASE!! (And two gingers is almost more than I can bear! A personal life-long "thing."

    Its not about the singer, its about the song. PTX demonstrates this so well with their use of dynamics. They each get their turn in the light, but they work together flawlessly to elevate the song, not themselves. And your reaction is, as always, genuine, instructive, and fun. Having Holly on was a blast! Did she find that word yet? Merry Christmas to you and Holly and Paul!!

    Mitch, Scott and Kirstin have been friends since high school. You can really tell they know exactly what each other are doing and where they're going with/ in a song. It's unmistakable when you listen to all their music. Even the ones when they are very young.

  • @tss9886

    Kristy, Scott and Mitch sung together since high school. Avi and Kevin joined them for the Sing Off an acapella contest, they were only 19 and 20 years old. They won and went on to change acapella forever.

    I think a big reason they 'share" the spotlight so well is because the 3 of them (Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch) have sung together since their school days. They grew up together in Texas.

    I have often been lost for words, when trying to describe Pentatonix's unique vocals & sound, & I still cannot express, or even come to terms, with what my ears are hearing, most times, but one thing I do know, is that, when I hear their voices, it always takes me to a place, that touches my heart, & can make me feel things, I didn't even know existed!!! To me, that is their gift, & what makes them, not only an amazing group, but incredible artists 💝 **THEY TRULY ARE A RARE GIFT** 💝

    A version of this song I think you will adore. Voctave featuring the original writer of the song Mark Lowry. I love the pentatonix version but there is something very special about the original writer singing it. And for being 62 or so during the recording he holds a note for an insane amount of time, while sitting. You don't need to react to it but please do listen to it on your own time. Take care.

    • @LonesomeTwin
      @LonesomeTwin ปีที่แล้ว

      The definitive Voctave version seems to be almost universally ignored in favour of PTX. Would love to know why that is exactly. Anyone who's heard knows that FVM would be utterly blown away by it, as we've all been.

    • @greattheillusion
      @greattheillusion ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Lonesome Twin it may just be a case of Pentatonix being more well known. They were in a TV show, and Voctave wasn't kind of a thing. I do feel sorry for people who haven't heard the voctave version yet, and I hope that they do some day. It just makes it really special having Mark Lowry there and that note he holds is so impressive.

    I've always loved this group. Their ability to just literally bring the music alive is unbelievable... you've probably heard about this already but if you haven't seen how Pentatonix got their big break/start, check out an old American television show called "The Sing Off." They were on season 3 and unfortunately that was the last season but its incredible seeing all of the acapella groups perform and compete. I highly recommend checking the show out!

    Wow, yes, I second the suggestion that you two go through the Sing Off performances. You have great synergy together ❤ and you will find some interesting lessons to comment on about doing covers, how to work as a group, and how to grow and learn as a performer/singer/arranger. The judges on the series were the best set I've seen on a competition show, and I still see PTX applying the lessons learned there in their music today. Plus you are a hoot together, lol.

    "They could do so much more... there is no ego". How true that they all make their own singular performance subservient to the group and the song, and in this way, they serve themselves best. They put their individuality in service to the group, and in doing so they become some of the most respected/honored individuals in the music business. Selflessness does pay off.

And of course the technical analysis from both of you. I always learn new things about music from your reactions!🤩

    There's a group called Chapel Hart that made their big break on America's Got Talent. They did it with an original song of their own called You Can Have Him Jolene. Yes it is a follow-up to Dolly Parton's Jolene. That appearance on AGT was special, and my suggestion would be for you to react to that performance rather than the separate version without the judges there. The judges add some depth and color to the clip.

    Hi... Merry Christmas! For a sublime experience, check out this song as done by the aca group Voctave, featuring Mark Lowry (the one who wrote the lyrics). This version, and the one done by Home Free, are just beautiful. But nobody sings this song like Mark, and Voctave as BV's take it to whole other level. It's the most 'real' and moving version I've ever heard or seen.

    This was so fun, you two work so good together, and Paul is adorable. Since Holly likes Mitch so much the two of you need to listen to Scott (Tall baritone), and Mitch (beautiful voice), have a side channel (they've haven't been able to maintain it recently), but the do a song from the Broadway play, Wicked, name of the song is Defying Gravity. I call the play The Wizard of Ox part 3. THe song is about Elphaba the witch learning to actually fly on a broom, the first with ever to do that. Mitch is Elphaba. They are halfway in costume. They are doing this as a comedy, but you wee how serious they are about their singing, no matter how big a joke it is, they still sing perfectly. That song and the PTX upgrade of The Prayer by Celine Dion, and Adrea Bouchilli, both really show off just what Mitch is capable of. I want to see you both do these.

    That was a fun reaction on both sides I think 🙂
    This was an amazing group going from countertenor to an actual basso profundo.
    There was another popular countertenor in the USA at the time who led the way for Mitch, Chris Colfer in the television series Glee was a major inspiration.
    The primary arrangers at this time were usually Ben Bram, Scott Hoying (the baritone), Avi Kaplan (the bass) and Kevin Olusola (the beatboxer).
    Avi left Pentatonix and had a spot of bad luck getting started on his own as a singer-songwriter because of the pandemic (travel was shutdown literally the day after his big launch by his new label).
    He has been through a couple of phases in his solo career but he is generally folk rock.
    His band harmonizes with him as well as playing instruments.
    Do give him a try sometime. Most reactors start with Change On the Rise. A fun one is When I'm a Fool (try the version recorded at Sunset Sound Studios) that and All is Well ft Joy Williams should give you a good view of his range and direction.

    I said this in another comment, but, I played horn professionally, I loved when a conductor would ask me to play a solo louder, I’d always, always ask “I’m sorry, what dynamic do you have for me there?” And they’d say mf or whatever and say “yes, I know, but, could you please bring it up a little?” And I’d of course always say “sure!”..and then play microscopically softer to bring everyone into what I was doing..it worked every time..lol..if you start competing and playing louder to draw ppl in, you actually repel them instead…I always thought the more intensely beautiful magic happened when many ppl onstage played so softly and beautifully together..

    You so enjoyed Nothing Else Matters by Voice Play doing a Metallica cover. You and Holly have to do a joint collaboration on this because it sounds like it should be a load of fun for you, Holly, and your subs!

    Holly, your baratone is INCREDIBLE. Singing Avi's part of the two part harmony from the beginning was SOOOOO smooth and resonant, and beautifully mimicked Avi's own performance. ❤ love it!!!!

    I'm going to need a membership roster for the Cult of Ginger Vocal Coaches. For research purposes of course lol. Love your reactions and your team ups with Julia as well

    Hmm, I *am* subscribed to several ginger vocal coaches, so for me "the club" is absolutely a real thing!

    Love love love you both. Merry holidays and jovial new year.💜❤️💕❣️... And I think the word she was looking for was "gimmicks" (there were no gimmicks used in their arrangement)

    Their control, and “gentle” way of keeping, or sustaining with zero forcing the dynamic they’re on allows them to increase or decrease at will..and the duet between Avi and Scott, wow..their voices are synergy personified..and the balances aren’t just constant, the subtle in and out of bringing things up and down goes nigh unnoticed by most..
