      @@thequestionqueens - yes the Prayer and Amazing Grace but also their original song 'Sing' as that's upbeat (don't be fooled by the opening!) Same with their Grammy award winning Daft Punk medley, which I think you're gonna need after doing Amazing Grace/The Prayer 😂❤️

      Regarding instruments, until their Christmas album of 2022 called Evergreen, anytime they used an instrument it is clearly displayed in their videos. Evergreen has many a cappella songs but some with strings not shown in the official videos. In their first 11 years, the only instruments I can recall is a cello played by their beatboxer, and several collaborations with others who played instruments and those were shown in the videos as well.

    First guy was Scott (baritone) second guy was Avi (bass) the girl is Kirstie(rhymes with thirsty mezzo soprano) the smaller guy (high voice counter tenor) is Mitch and the black Angel is Kevin(beatboxer tenor) They did a rendition of Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion’s The Prayer that you should give a listen to if this one blows your mind. Enjoyed.

  • @Wyndigayle
    @Wyndigayle ปีที่แล้ว +54

    They do have a few songs that have an instrument or two. Kevin, the beatboxer, also plays the cello and lends his talent to a handful of their arrangements. They've also collaborated with the amazing violinist, Lindsey Stirling on a few songs. They have begun using instruments a bit more in their more recent work, but this song does not use any instruments other than Kevin's awesome talent and their voices. :)

    The really crazy thing is that they sound the same live!! I highly recommend Amazing Grace, Daft Punk, Evolution of Michael Jackson, Sound of Silence, The Prayer and their originals Love Again or Coffee in Bed (for a variety). I have MDYK 100 or more times, and I still get chills every time. I feel your pain about being robbed by not listening to them earlier in life. I became a Pentaholic a year and a half ago, and I listen to them every day now! And yes……Mitch 🔥👽🤯🥰.

    That's right no instruments in any Pentatonix songs (unless it's Kevin playing the cello and he sometimes beatboxes at the same time, or when they collab with violinist Lindsey Stirling). Did you see that Kevin sang the last verse - he is so multi-talented, he can sing, beatbox, play the cello, compose, play other instruments. I really love your reactions. And Mitch, he's just a once-in-a-generation talent.

    You are now The Southern Belle of The You Tube community. Loved your reaction. This song is one of my favorites anyway. But when I heard PTX sing it, they had my heart forever! There is so much to uncover with PTX! Wait til you hear Oh Come All Ye Faithful and just watch the arrangement they spin on that one. It is an upbeat with a kicker. I think you will appreciate it. If you like nostalgia, there is the 90's Dance Medley with much dance music. Keven is phenomenal with sounds of many instruments. He swallows drum sets for Breakfast, did you know? He is a human trumpet in Havana! And Mitch has his own instruments too. I am so excited to watch more of PTX with you!

    It's called their "wall of sound." If you're interested in live performances, they just released their summer tour schedule which will be later in the summer after Asia, AU/NZ, and Europe. They stay pretty busy. Mitch did once say they prefer to work. I believe there is a wedding scheduled sometime between Europe and summer tour.

    What a marvelous reaction! I never get tired of having a reactor go back over a portion of a song they enjoy, especially with PTX!
    I think this was the 2nd song from Pentatonix that I ever heard, and it was the first time I ever heard Kevin (the beatboxer) sing. Since I was a relative newcomer to PTX, I didn't realize just how rare hearing Kevin sing was, so I just thought they were showing that everyone in the group could sing by letting him have a solo for a few lines. As it turns out, I would guess (without actually counting) that there are perhaps a dozen songs (out of their 200-300) where Kevin has a solo, so it was quite an event, even if I didn't realize it at the time.

    Kevin Olusola, the beatboxer and lyric tenor, is also a master cellist and he sometimes plays on their songs: Can You Fell the Love to Night, Radioactive, Over the River and Papaoutai (w/Lindsey Sterling on violin), and Dancing with Myself are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. (I did check the spelling of Papaoutai - I don't speak French.

  • @lisafreeman5115
    @lisafreeman5115 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    If there is an instrument in their performance you will see it, like when Kevin plays his cello - but 99% there will be nothing other than just their voices making all of the sounds - this song was way back in their younger days when Avi (the guy with the beard) was with them - When you listen to The Prayer and Amazing Grace you will see Matt, the guy who stepped in for Avi when the group changed - such an amazingly talented group!! Enjoy your journey with PTX - and welcome to experiencing music as it should be! 🙂😊Can you tell I'm a Pentaholic?? 😅😂🤣💖

    Before Pentatonix< I would only listen to Christmas music from after Thanksgiving to New Year's Day. Since I became a Pentaholic, I listen to their Christmas music (6 albums worth - that's just their Christmas; they have 11 studio albums altogether.) year-round. I mention this because if you want to see a pared-down video where it is obvious that they are not using instruments, you need to watch O Holy Night. They filmed it in a side vestibule of a church and the acoustics are amazing. It is also a stunning rendition of that hymn.

    • @sharonh951
      @sharonh951 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know the did "Silent Night" in a church while on tour. I wasn't aware that they did "O Holy Night " too. I know Avi sang it at his last few shows just before Christmas and it was so beautiful.

    There are very few songs that Pentatonix does with any instruments, but there are a handful that I know of. You get the occasional piano and in very rare occasion you get Kevin playing the cello. They have come a long way since their debut on The Sing Off, but I've followed their ride from the beginning and can never get enough.

    Loved your reaciton to this beautiful song. This is one of the few where they each have solo parts to sing, so you get to hear all of their beautiful voices. The 5 you see here are the original group, which formed in 2011. In 2017, the second singer, Avi Kaplan (beard and beanie), left to start a solo career, and a new bass, Matt Sallee, joined them. So all videos since late 2017 have Matt on bass. The other 4 have always been in the group, although their looks have changed over time. Looking forward to more Pentatonix reactions!

  • @cosmicdrift8311
    @cosmicdrift8311 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I worry for you. Be sure you are up on your heart meds when you listen to them because PTX is a definate heart stopper. When Kirstie, Scott and Mitch hamonize, their voices wrap around and intertwine with each other and magic happens. Add in Kevin's beat boxing and Avi's/Matt's bass and you have a full, rich wonderful musical kingdom. The Prayer and Amazing Grace are two more songs in line with this one. To answer your question about instruments, some of the songs in their latest album Christmas Around the World have some instruments. Previously, anytime an instrument was used, such as Kevin on the cello, it was prominantly featured.

    I love your reactions, so pure and honest! I have been listening to this song for ever and I cried after so many times of listening to it.

    I'm so glad, you discovered this group. They're amazing! You're making your leap into the rabbit hole. There's so much more of them, you haven't experienced. They use no instruments. They're completely a capello.

    Thank you for your wonderful, heartfelt reaction! Watching reactors fall in love with them again and again? Yes please! Love your reactions, please do "The Prayer" and "Imagine" or, of your want something more upbeat, "Sing" or "Cruisin' for a bruisin'".. gosh, the list is so long!
