Hi! I'm late to the party. I have an FSB 8 i purchased a few years ago for a larger video camera. Currently I use it with a Sony a6700. A little overkill, I admit. I plan on purchasing a Sony 200-600mm telephoto this December and use it for wildlife studies. Because of the design, i.e., 'Dial Wheel' steps, there will always be those 'inbetween' situations you’ll just have to contend with. I haven't had too many situations where the Fluidhead couldn't be adjusted to work. My sticks are Sachtler 'Speedlock/75', which can be a little 'springy'. Technique-technique-technique! The old rubber band trick works pretty well. 😊

Hi mate ! Small update from me. Yesterday I went to shop and tested new Sachtler FSB 8 fluid head. No major difference between 5 drags on my FSB8 and 7 drags on new model. To be honest I didn’t felt anything. So I decided not to upgrade and keep my fluid head.
Also I had a reply from Canon professionals . They told me that I need to send my R5 back to them for a test check under the warranty. They told me that the camera shouldn’t behave like that. Also Canon will send me another R5 body while my one will be under repairs.
The shop which sells tripods are commercial film company. Yesterday 3 professional film crew operators had a look at my camera while I’ve been testing new fluid head. They also told me that camera should not behave like that. Lots of vibration.
I will wait and see how new body will behave. The camera will arrive next week

So I was right about FSB8 mkII :).
Good news Canon trying to be professional. I wouldn't guess there is something wrong with the camera itself.
I wonder what would be the outcome of the service visit of your camera.

Could you please explain to me ? What is the exactly 7 drags settings for ? I do own fsb8 ( 5 drags settings ) my camera weight is around 5kg. Will the 7 drags settings make my panning and tilting smoother for my 5kg gear ? Or 7 drags settings only for heavier cameras ?

Drag setting is only responsible for smoothness/speed of your pan/tilt. I'd say weight of the camera does not impact this setting at all. Counterbalance is related to camera weight, drag not. If you are happy with you 5 drag settings on your current FSB8 upgrade makes no sense.
If you want to dial you pan/tilt speed/smoothness more precisely you may consider the upgrade but, my guess is that difference between 5 and 7 is not that big.

@@JoATTech Thank you so much for your reply and advice. Because I’m filming fast moving jets and I’ve thought that 7 drags settings will make my panning smoother. I did went to shop yesterday in London but they didn’t let me to tested new head. They didn’t want to unpack it. I’m really don’t know how to test this new fluid head. Perhaps they lost a customer yesterday

@@UraFlight I checked some of your videos, but not sure there were recorded on the tripod with FSB8 or not, cause some of the footage has been a bit shaky. Also not sure which focal lengths you use.
Generally higher the drag, smoother the pan/tilt but if you want whip pans they you usually set drag to lowest setting. Then it's all about technique then the head. I doubt upgrading from FSB8 to new FSB8 would make a difference. Tested some fast pans on my FSB8 and smoothens been more reliant on my technique (consistent preasure) then the drag setting.
I guess if you order the head online you can return it within two weeks if it's not heavily used (not sure about UK). For sure amazon got very liberal return policy.

@@UraFlight You can also check gimbal heads (not sure they would be good solution with 5kg camera). I used gimbal heads for shooting birds but not sure they are good for video. Also check your image stabilization settings. Sometimes jerky pans are due to wrong IS setting in the lens/camera.

@@JoATTech Thank you for checking my videos. You can’t see them here on my TH-cam channel . I do film for this channel sometimes “ TOPFELYA “ Just type Airbus A380 landing gear down. That was my work

Nice to meet you! I'm shooting videos of soccer, basketball, rugby, etc.
I would like to ask you about your experience with sachtler FSB8 mk2 and sachtler FSB8 (old model).
For indoor shooting, a 200mm lens is sufficient, so the Manfrotto Nitrotec 608 and Manfrotto Nitrotec 612 are heavy enough for smooth pan and tilt.
However, when it comes to soccer and rugby, I am not satisfied with the 608 and 612 because I have to shoot with 400mm or 600mm lenses.
The pan weight is not heavy enough and too light, and when I am following the players when they are running, the camera moves up and down by itself, making it difficult to capture smooth and beautiful images.
With the FSB8, is it possible to pan/tilt with enough weight and smooth pan/tilt with 400mm or 600mm attached?
I ask this question because I can't find any review videos of pan/tilt while actually shooting.
    Thank you in advance.

I haven't used my 150-600 on the Sachtler yet.
But check this video out: th-cam.com/video/FZ1uYcPVxl0/w-d-xo.html
It's on Activ8, which is a succesor of FSB8 I got. So results should be more or less the same.
It looks very smooth, although there might be small difference between target sizes and speed needed for rubgy. And also this footage is mostly 120fps, so everything looks smoother.
What fps do you plan to shoot with 400 or 600mm?
I can try with my 150-600 and upload the results to YT, but the soonest I can do it is next week.
