Is the 650b waterproof
No, GVM 650B Pro is not weather proof. Same for Aputure 600D (it's not too). But Aputure 600D Pro and 1200D Pro both have IP rating of IP54. Aputure 1200X and 1000C have IP rating of IP65 !!!!
“First impressions” 😂😂
🤔🤥🤥🤥
As someone who has worked in the film and television industry for nearly 40 years, I find your reviews and analysis insightful and refreshing. Although i get to use the highest end gear on professional projects, I have been use the prosumer stuff on my personal work for the past few years. Although you claim that this is more of a hobby for you, I think you have a mentality and approach similar to mine - If it works, i can use it. Andrew Lock is and was my go-to reviewer for in depth technical info, but your no-nonsense, no bullshit approach is welcome. I was considering getting a pair of GVM 500B (like you, after doing a month of research) lights for my interview setup, but I'm leaning back towards the aperture 600d after watching your videos.
I think Aputure might release their new 600X based on BLAIR engine, so 600d and 600d Pro should be discounted like 1200d now. They actually priced new 1200X the same as 1200D originally, so if this is the case for new 600X, then this will be no brainer. GVM is not that bad for the price (especially when there is a promo running), but for anything more serious their all over the place CCT at different power settings is no go IMHO.
Would this SD card work with XAVC S1 4K
If you mean XAVC ALL-I 4k 10bit 4:2:2 then yes. Up to 60p. Some say it also works with 120p in A7S3, but I do not have it so cannot check. There are lately cheaper alternatives for this card, but you have to have CF express type a slot. Like pergear 260GB CF-E typeA and new Angelbird 256GB CF-e A (a bit more expensive but 5x faster).
Which do you think is better, the Tilta hydra alien mini or the Mov Max?
I do not touched MovMax, but watched plenty reviews and they are very similar products. For both you need a damper to use it with DJI Pocket 3. Vaxis (MovMax company) have their own dumper for the arm. For Hydra Mini I tested insta360 dumper and it works like a charm. Hydra Alien Mini has 100g higher maximum payload so if you plan to mount bigger camera this one will be in theory better (but insta360 dumper supports cameras up to 250g). Hydra Alien Mini also have an option for electronic suction cup. MovMax has only manual one.
1200X for sure :) Newer technology. The Prolock mount alone is a huge reason to get it 👍
I just checked and the specs says 1200X is also 30-50% more powerful at 5600K (depends on modifier). Looks like no brainer. Although with reflector set price difference +42% compared to current 1200d price.
Hi I don't understand where you are seeing the tension number settings, mine just has plus or minus tension.
I just count the turns from the minimum. There are 18.5 turns (or 17.5) - so I give the tension in turns from the minimum setting :D.
If I owe you a like... here it is! I just received the handheld version yesterday. Thanks, for the video.
Does it work as expected? :D
Who got that good D? 🤣🤣🤣 or X?
Are the rosettes standard universal size on the Alien mini?
I just bough two stackable circular filter tray ( MB-T16-SCF) for my tilta mirage mattebox but it seems impossible to stack two together because of the two screws underneath the second one. Do you have any idea of how to do it? Thank you :)
Tilta claims you can stack up to 5 of these, but looking at the lock mechanism I'm kinda sceptical now :D - doubt it's possible. But you want to have original circular filter tray + 2 additional? So you can install 6 circular filters? Or what? :D Not sure what is the reason to attach two of them.
@@JoATTech I have the double filter already (for two ND 0.6) but I need to have a second one (for a ND 0.9 or 0.3, to make all the combination : 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 2.1 and 2.4) and another one for the Polarizer.
@@JoATTech I will try to unscrew the two screws underneath because I saw some pictures of two MB T16-SCF but no one shows it)
@@JoATTech Actually it worked... But I didn't put the rond screw but it worked :)
@@apentice001 So not round screw in the middle one? Does it hold? :D
Unacceptable. I was looking at the 120c with the quick pop softbox..
I think models with pop softbox are fine, especially that you can leave the softbox on them. I haven't have any of them personally, but I hope some reviewers will report the quality issue already (but maybe not :D).
on the specs says can handle upto 600 grams, can you make a review when it used with mirrorless camera, thx
such as sony zv e10 camera
I plan to do it with ZV-E10 II, but first I need a suction cup that allows me to install the camera directly to the car. So I have to buy Tilta's other suction cup or just universal plate or nato plate for their suction cap. That way I can compare the footage with the arm and without the arm. I guess this will happen next month if the weather allows to do it :D.
Just ordered F200Bi and F400Bi. Considering this as a next purchase for my studio.
Nice. F600Bi has really good quality and features to price ratio. Only egg crate is crappy :D. It's my go to studio light. But check infinimat :D. They also have 4x4 option, but it's 5k USD :D
I have a LUMIX g9 but I need a low light camera, I think about getting the pocket 3 as it’s so much cheaper, but I’ve never used a full frame. I want to buy lights but don’t care to set them up… so I need a low low light camera, do you have any opinions
Check my channel, there is a video comparing P3 and S5IIX in low light :D Define low light and what scenario you will use that camera? Vlogging? Camping videos? If you want low light beast get A7S3 or ZV-E1.
@ zv e1 is on my mind or the 10ii i have to confirm the specs of the e1 But it would be nice to keep the g9 as my main with a good lens and a small low light back up cam, low light is 4pm looks pitch black, I have a video on my channel called g9 iso test - Rough Testing Purposes most recent, I plan on recreating it today with the worst lens I have to get a solid idea if I’m fine or not, 3200 iso in HLG low low light doesn’t have much grain, that’s my only issue is grain Your lucky to have a street light with my setting, I would buy 2 strong lights and a nice lens but I’d rather just pull out the right device for the setting
Pocket 3 has just one base ISO. S5IIX has 2 base ISOs (640 and 4000 for VLOG). ZV-E1 has 800 and 12800 (in SLOG) ZV-E10 II base ISO is 800 and just 2500. So based on ISO alone you can guess that ZV-E1 is the best for low light.
seems to be the only camera zv-e1 if not the lumix s5 but Id rather have auto fous, thanks for sharing that one with me, seems to be the only real deal unit
This is one of the only videos that actually showcases how the fluid head works
How is the light distribution? Aputure tends to have a center hot spot with no modifier attached.
Auture has center spot with reflector attached, that's why I mentioned that reflector measurements with aputure are always skewed. Haven't seen any significant central spot in aputure without a reflector. Also aputure has much more output with any modifier, not only in the center.
*quirks*
thank you for this breakdown, when we look at the massive price difference between those 2 cameras, dji pocket 3 becomes a better choice for first time buyers
Buyer just have to be aware of some corks of DJI Pocket3. Aputure is fixed, so you have like F5.5 in full frame terms (depth of field). And it has terrible focus breathing. Other than that it's great :D.
@@JoATTech tbh, I'm confused between dji pocket 3 vs Panasonic S5 first gen

I like the Olympus 5. The Sony zve10. 2. Is great ibis compared to zvE10
Olympus is IBIS + Electronic. And I like the results from Olympus too. But ZV-E10 II is just electronic stabilization, which I have to say is very impressive. Not sure how this would work with ND filters and 180 degree shutter rule (I have to check it someday).
Did you try putting the pocket 3 in the bracket so it is sideways and then screw the counterweight into the bottom of the 1/4-20 thread of the Pocket 3 instead of the Tilta? This might help with the jello. It makes it bottom heavy and makes the pivot point closer to the camera head. Not sure if it will work, but it might be worth a try.
No, because it's quite hard to put the camera with the 1/4-20 part into the bracket, also not sure about additional 220g hanging out of it. But the idea might be worth trying, although it works really well mounted upside down, and I haven't seen anyone succeeding without some kind of the vibration damper (either insta360 or new tilta one). So kinda doubt it would help :D
i remember going through this exact thing with the original hydra alien and a real camera. Nothing worked til the bestboy adam spring mod
I watch Bestboy Adam (remember his issues). Looks like tilta never learn, but they just released their own damper for Alien Mini, which seems to work. Not sure about the price.
Damn shame that this only come out now,. im using the movmax bladearm and it also deliver results
These are very similar products. Movmax has a bit smaller max payload, but it should not matter for Pocket3 :D. Do you use any damper with your Movmax arm?
@@JoATTech yes movmax has its vibration damper cost like 30$ i think i dont recall exactly but wow it is MUST ! night and day for filming you can check my last motorcycle film its filmed with the movmax blade and osmo
@@Dor_sap Really nice video. Put some questions in the comment :D
THANX MEN!! GREAT JOB!!!
Does it still recommended in 2024? Or should go to Sigma 135mm, rather this? I read many bugs firmware and issue quality control, do you suggest they had fixed the quality control and firmware update?
I use this lens mostly for photos, and I do not experienced any problems with it. Now even this video AF cork is fixed. Lately someone said in the comments that AF-C stopped working on A7IV with new (4.0) firmware. But another user said it still works for him. I've also heard that Samyang lenses get lose overtime, but I have 3 of their lenses currently and all work fine (one for 4+ years). Lately you also got Viltrox 135mm F1.8 LAB as a choice. Quality seems to be better, bokeh seems to be a bit better too, but not much. And Sigma 135mm F1.8 is still DSLR version adopted to e-mount, while this one is mirrorless version. + Sigma is 400g heavier. SIgma 2x more expensive in my country than this Samyang ... I would go Samyang hands down.
@@JoATTech I think they had still issue about quality. For Sigma only half price 1.3~1.5x higher than compare Samyang in my country. As for the Viltrox, i just heard about that, Viltrox 135mm F1.8 as new lens with almost same price compare Samyang.
@@fernandoloieshaslim4512 Viltrox seems to be better than Sigma, but check Julia Trotti comparison of Sigma, Samyang and Sony GM ... all 135mm. Also PetaPixels said something about the issue with Viltrox (go and check it :D).
@@JoATTech Yes, maybe wait real comparison. But I read2 the weight for Viltrox 135mm 1.3 kg, almost 400 gram compare Sony 135mm 0.95 kg and 500 gram more weight compares Samyang 135mm 0.83 kg.
@@fernandoloieshaslim4512 If the budget is not a concern then get Sony. Maybe they will announce new version soon. (I kinda doubt it). If you on a budget and strong - VIltrox if on a budget and weak Samyang :D.
thansk for the video!! have you seen the Movemax? its the same but different design! i would love to see a review on that
Yes I've seen it. Seen few reviews of MoveMax also (I even mention it in this video). It also causes jello without a damper :D. And Vaxis has their own damper (cheaper). Pro of the Tilta Hydra Mini is electronic suction cup. Movemax has manual.
@i dont mind the 30 dollar difference. If you could recommend one, which one would it be ?? Movmax or Tilta?
@@AndresGuzman956 I haven't tested Movmax so not sure how good it is. But based what I've seen the results they provide are very similar. I can for sure recommend Tilta Hydra Mini, cause I have one and I used it intensively last 2 weeks. But with some kind of the damper and not for 100% off-road :D
is the electronic suction cup needed or is the manual pump cup good enough? have you ever had issues of manual pump losing vacuum ?
@@splasheuro I guess electronic one is not needed, just gives additional piece of mind, but the problem is as with every device with battery it may stop working after ~3 years. I haven't have any problems with suction caps, although smaller ones unglued from my windshield, but they haven't have a pump and indicator of the low suction. Manual cups from Tilta or Vaxis have an indicator on the pump which shows that suction is low so if you can see them from the cabin you are kinda safe. I just wanted some additional peace of mind and wanted to try the fancy one :D
Hi dear, thanks for this video which enlightens me a lot on this subject. I bought the Tilta for a quad and I can't wait to try it.
For which camera? Pocket 3?
@@JoATTech I would like to pair Gopro 10 and 11 and osmo pocket 1 with the Insta360 damper
@@Nessaiepasfaisle I'm not sure arm is necessary for GoPro :D. And I wonder how often you will hit the max position on the arm while driving the quad off-road :D. Quad sounds like tons of dirt, are you sure your Osmo P1 will be safe? :D
@@JoATTech I plan to use the Osmo P1 for small paths and quiet walks. I know it is fragile. The advantage for GoPros is that the Alien allows you to avoid cropping in the image with the built-in stabilization of the cameras.
I'm not so sure about the last part (no need for build-in stabilization) - it's not a gimbal, there is still sideways shake. I have actually try it (I think I haven't already :D).
Nice and compact unit
It is, but I wish they include vibration damber in the ultimate kit even if it's like $20 more expensive.
Next time a single angle with second angle showing the setup would be helpful. I’m having a hard time understanding why you were able to get the nanlite so much closer. The 600 should be miles softer if used correctly. It’s just physics. You should also do the test without other lights involved so we can see exactly what the lights you are testing are doing. Too many variables with the other lights.
I would try my best, but I'm not full time ytber, so I have usually 30 minutes to record experiment like that. Now I have my Action5 Pro so I can easily record second (wide) angle. Why I was able to get nanlite closer? Physics 😅, it's 4 times smaller so you can get it much closer to your talent before it's in the frame. 4x4 600Bi is really hard to get close to the talent (it's so big). The con is: when the light is that close it has much more abrupt fall off, not very visible in that shot I think, but the closer the light to the talent the more annoying falloff is.
you're right about the lack of non-suction mounting options. going to have to get creative doing an arri-rosette to super-clamp type of setup, but not a lot of native options out there for this particular mounting config. the footage from bumpy road looks really clean, wow; similar tests i've watched from similar mounts like the MovMax seem to introduce a bit more of those wobbles than this Tilta one. very glad to see this👌 for the money, seems like good piece of kit to have, and honestly look forward to using it for walking/handheld footage as well, seems like it would do a pretty decent job in that regard as well. under $200 for z-axis stabilization not a bad deal at all!
re: hamdheld mount, been thinking about how to attach phone/monitor to this Alien Mini; are there any common accessory screw holes or nato rails on the arm anywhere for things like this?
After 3 days of testing I've been able to eliminate the jello effect almost completely (like 99.5%) I have to do some more testing tomorrow and I hope there the review with Pocket 3 will be live this Sunday Bad news is Tilta scrapped the handlebar mount :(, their rep told me it was only prototype and it never went to mass production ... shame, because it might be really hard to find a conversion from 25mm rosette to any handlebar mount :(.
You can mount the phone with a cage, most cages have 1/4-20 holes, so you can use this "universal" plate to do it.
@@JoATTech sorry, meaning phone/monitor as field monitor for Pocket 3 mounted to main arm. after looking thru handful of photos of it, it doesn't look like there is a great way to attach a field monitor. figured the official handle for it would have at least a cold shoe or nato rail or something, but doesn't look like it.
@@JoATTech that's pretty incredible to have most of jello eliminated! end up having to get creative with adding soft mounts/moon gel etc to get the vibes out? i think i'm leaning towards adding the MovMax isolation mount to mine once it arrives, those float mounts have always treated me well in the past with micro-vibes.
Image quality: The S5 wins. It has way better dynamic range, Log profile, and colour science. It is very good for professional shoots. Size and stability: Pocket 3 win. It's lightweight and the best for vlogging with subject tracking. Very good for Trekking
It's very nice seeing your car moving/vibrating around on the cobble stones and dirt road but the camera being smooth. Not used to seeing that on such a low cost camera setup.
The cobblestones are real test. I'm lucky I found them. There were killing my Pocket3 setup for last 3 days :D. And here you do not even need the arm for A5Pro to be smooth 😮😮😮

@@creativegreatsvisuals Hydra Mini or MoveMax ... it's not really necessary for Action 5 Pro ... at least if you record with fast shutter speed. Not sure about 180 degree shutter, cause I do not have ND filters for Action 5.
@ what is considered fast shutter speed and why is fast shutter speed necessary?
@@creativegreatsvisuals most electronic stabilizations suggest to use at least 1/200s SS. But the faster the better, because motion blur and electronic stabilization create artifacts if shutter speed is too slow.
Piękny polski akcent. Też tak mam
😅😂😂
Chapters are in the description below, for some reason YT does not process them correclty.
These almost look like the roads I've been testing the Alien Mini on. I always turn off stabilisation when attached to the car or hard mounted to anything really, the drifting just gives off a horribly amateur look I try to avoid.
Guess road looks familiar cause I live like 200km away form where you live :D. Poland is beautiful :D. I haven't tried it without stabilization because I tested A5Pro without stabilization on my bike, and it turned out like crap :D. Not sure Tilta Hydra Mini alone will be enough without stabilization to get good looking footage. Today (after 4 days of trial and error) I managed to get at last good looking videos from P3 on Hydra Mini :D
I've had a lot of under $50 suction cups in the last decade, but gotta say i love the build quality and performance of this new smallrig one. great piece of kit for sure nice edit man, keep up the good work
godox la300bi claims to have 127.000 lux with reflector....can you test it??
Manual says so :D. I do not own Godox la300bi, so unless you send it for the test I can't :D And godox is not willing to send me any products for review ... my channel is toooooooo small for them :D.
@@JoATTech ok, i like your style, nice reviews with real information , no YT persona bullshit, cheers
@@costashaniaalejpoly Maybe when I have 5k subs Godox will change their mind :D and I will get la300bi for the test :D. I asked them to send in their 90x60 flag set (worth like $200) for review and they haven't even bother to tell me to f... off :D.
@@JoATTech you need some subscribers horse power for this shit i guess hahaah you ll get there dont worry , cheers
That thing looks wild 😂. There’s another company going around soliciting a similar product, but too cumbersome
You probably referring to Vaxis MovMax Blade Arm. Very similar thing, although suction cup is just mechanical one. And it has smaller payload (up to 500g) while this one has 600g tops :D. Not sure it's any better, so far it does not work very well with Pocket3.
If action cam inbuilt stabilization is off - then it might b usefull 🤔🤔
Nah, it's has just 1 axis of "stabilization" so the footage will be really crappy :D. I even thought about it, but it will be waste of time which I do not have much :D.
@JoATTech received my handheld hydra mini today. Gotta use with phone and see if i can replace with dji osmo.
@@sriabhi Not sure it's a good choice for recording with a phone. It's not a gimbal, just 1 axis stabilization. But if phone has electronic stabilization ... maybe it will elimitate bobbing from steps ...
stoked to watch this later, there are ZERO reviews on this product. thanks for taking the time to make some relevant content on this m8!
This week I should post my thoughts and more sample footage on this with Action 5 Pro and DJI Pocket 3 Probably two separate videos. I just spend 3h experimenting :D
@@JoATTech btw, can’t wait to see how something a bit heavier works on this. My guess is the ZV-E1 will probably be decently stable at lower speeds/smooth roads, but likely see it struggle on adverse paths. Does tilta arm seem to accommodate larger body/tried it in a bench test or anything? I know this arm has a lower spec weight, but hoping to find you can stretch those margins a bit if you take it easy/don’t push limits 🤞🤞
@@kernzilla I would try ZV-E10 II or OM-5, but I need some mount to compare it to "bare" suction cup. So I guess I would order tiltas plate(s) for the suction cap to swap it with the Hydra mini one. They are $32, so not that expensive, although in EU there are ~€50 :(. Although I kinda doubt it would be great. But hard to tell, OM-5 stabilization (IBIS + electronic) is very impressive, so maybe no need for the arm.
Try and add weight to the front for better stability. P3 may be too light and bounce more.
I'm using included 220g weight. And my Action 5 Pro has metal cage so it's quite heavy. P3 is a different story :D.
Thinking of getting the same kit, let me know when you’ve uploaded some sample footage please
For which camera you want it?
Action 5 Pro video with Hydra Alien Mini is live already :D.
My wife is a professional video editor, but early in her career so we're on a tight budget. So far she's been working on a 2019 MacBook pro, but it is absolutely giving in. I've been gaming for as long as I can remember and have an older 2070 laying around and 32gb of ram. She also uses DaVinci resolve. We are looking around for an alternative. We were either going to get her an M2 mac mini (not the pro model since they're way too expensive) or buy the rest of the parts (so everything minus the ram and GPU) for a home computer for the same budget as a base M2 mac mini. Of course if we get a home pc she could change the GPU down the line. The mac mini looks like a good all-in-one solution and she's already used to macOS, but I fear it'd be outdated in just a year or two. I loved the review and it really puts things in perspective. Would appreciate it immensely if you could supply us with some personal advice with the given information <3 Much love from the Netherlands! (where macs cost an arm and a leg...)
I think you should wait 5 more days with the final decision, because next week Apple unveils their new M4 based lineup. New Macbook Mini is one of the new products and might be the case it would be the best option. Based on the rumors and real benchmarks entry level model will probably have 16GB of RAM (and maybe 512GB of SSD). Supposed to have 3 thunderbolt ports and since it will be redesigned maybe SDcard port. They will announce it Wednesday the latest (next week). So I think it's worth to wait and see, and then maybe additional week for the reviews on YT. RTX 2070 and 32GB of RAM are great base for entry level DR Windows based workstation, but M4 based Mac mini will have faster CPU and neural engine. Not sure about the GPU (probably comparable to 2070 in a base model M4), but built in decoders and encoders might be even faster. Maybe I should order one and compare it to my current PC (same CPU, RAM and MB) + RTX 4080 :D :D :D And Mac costs the same in Poland as in Netherlands but we tend to earn 3-4 times less here, so imagine the prices :(.
Mac Mini M4 has been announced today. Will be available next week, so probably first YT reviews should be available w/c 11th of November. It looks good on paper. Might be faster than RTX 2070, but baseline mini starts with 16GB of RAM. Guess you can go now to apple page and check how much which option costs. Also SSD in entry level is 256GB, not much for video editing. I'm using NAS so I do not care about internal SSD, but SSD upgrades in MAC are crazy expensive :(. At least the price for entry level Mac mini seems to be the same and it has more RAM :D.
This is recorded with the Firmware Version: 01.00.07.30 - Dated: 2024.09.19. There is already new Firmware Version: 01.01.05.20 - Dated: 2024.10.18 which has "Optimized image quality when camera is in video or SuperNight mode" in the description. Haven't tested new one in SuperNight yet. So quality now might be a bit better :D.

Quick question- Seeing that you're in Poland, does an Italian-made Avenger c-stand cost less than a US-made Kupo c-stand? Here in the US, Kupo is cheaper than Avenger, but Matthews (US made) are more expensive than Avengers.
I had an impression that Kupo is manufactured in China (I've heard that watching some gaffer channels). So far it seems here in Poland Kupo is the cheapest although I haven't checked the prices lately. 3 years ago when I bought first Kupo stand it was 30-50% cheaper than Avenger anything. I kept buying Kupo on the assumption it's still cheaper, maybe I should recheck :D. But when I've been searching for some grip accessories (grip heads and cardolini clamps) Avenger was still more expensive.
Yesss!!! I love this!!! I'm writing this as I start watching your video. I hope Kupo, Avenger and Matthews come out on top. Can't wait to finish the video!
Kupo is the best I got :D
