At long mutha lovin' last! It was damn good to revisit this series. It's got everything: evocative concepts, really good writing, really good tone, and a surprising amount of humor. Even with their first, Frictional approached horror like seasoned veterans. I sincerely hope you all enjoy the episode, cuz it was a treat to write!

I looked up Penumbra lore expecting a five to ten year old video. Pleasantly surprised with this.
Finally proper lore and not some lazy 5 minute explanation or stupid explanation over how the game was made instead of the actual game lore, huge fan
I'm surprised that the Tuurngait was still willing to grant Phillip some form of "mercy" in spite of his betrayal.

Hey, great videos, I've just watched Soma, Bioshock and Penumbra it felt really awesome to remember the Penumbra series and clarification on the game's content.
Here are some suggestions:
- Outlast (with DLC)
- Amnesia 1 and 2 (there was already an announcement on the next Amnesia)
- Fallout 3 and/or New Vegas
- SCP
- F.E.A.R.
- Dark Souls Series - I believe there is already many videos explaining this, however it would be indeed a challenge
bruh I just watched all of your soma vids... I didn't think that game's story was so bleak and hopeless even the people feel like they've accepted their fate throughout the whole game with one or two people really giving convincing going crazy mental aptitude

I've been playing Darkwood recently, and it leaves me so unnerved and my nerves frayed, but i still hunger for some horror and narrative, because Darkwood has some great fucking horror and drip feeds you narrative. I didn't want to ruin any lore or story by watching a let's play of Darkwood, but it reminded me of Penumbra for some reason, so I youtubed "penumbra black plague story explained" and I came across your videos. Great videos on Penumbra. I'm hungry for more good videos on horror games, but that requires them to make some good ones xD I hope to see you do one on Darkwood!

Ok, this was a joy to watch! Just finished playing the trilogy, and although I got a pretty ok idea of what happened, I had some holes in the narrative here and there.

On Archaic going from DaVinci to "VE NEED TO FIND THEM ALIENS!" doesn't supprise me- many organizations have changed their goals along the centuries, mainly due to influxes of people, changes in leadership and such.
Definetly was gradual, from just searching and preserving earthly knowledge and invention and on the way it "expanded" or shifted slowly to look for xenoevidence.
As for the interesiting things- Persona Tardis aka the savepoints from Penumbra appear in Amnesia, tho as Alexander's audiolog devices.
At first it seems like an easter-egg or asset reusal, but in light of the Amnesia series as a whole- I wouldn't be supprised if Penumbra somewhat retroactively was happening in the same setting as Amnesia.
Tho, it would be kinda flattening for Penumbra- as I don't exactly want to give ideas of falattening everything into "Tis was just the multiverse pain empire once again".
And in light of Amnesia: The Bunker announcment- I am fkin glad Frictional seems to getting back to giving players a weapon in their games.
Judging by concept art for Rebirth it looked like gun supposed to be at player's hands in that game too, but in the end it only appeared in hands of one NPC.
After Amnesia got really popular we can somewhat hard blame Frictional for popularizing the "weak, defenceless bitch" form of horror games- or at least many horror games only took this inspiration from Amnesia, disregarding the atmosphere making and quite well done scares.
Clear, concise, and doesn't start the video with the regular damn intro (to be PC for YT).
After I played Black Plaugeu I realised where Rocksteady found story for Arkham Knight.

this narration was great but why such a skimpy overview of the third game? I didn't play the third one, nor the second, finished the first one. I wonder if the third one is a short game and doesn't reveal much in terms of lore and just gives a closure to the protagonist? Listening to the two part series on Penumbra i just couldn't shake off the feeling that it took such a swift turn in the second game to this hive mindedness and other dimensional beings, it just reminded me of Outlast and Amnesia game with a pig slaughter (sorry guys i don't remember correctly but i do remember pigs being involved in a visceral kind of way). Yeah of course this is incorrect logic but i came to know these games earlier than checked the rest of the storyline in Penumbra. Thank you for your narration, such a great voice for horror stories
