  • Video about the Cleveland Indians 2000 season, brought to you by Fox Sports Net, WTAM 1100 and 43 WUAB. I don't own the copyright, but I hope noone cares, because it's pretty cool video for tribe fans. Jim Thome, Manny Ramirez and Travis Hafner were still around, but they didn't have much pitching.

Wow, this is great! My first memory of baseball came when I was 6 years old in 1997. Jim Thome was my hero. I was fortunate enough to get to watch Thome play until I was 23. The Cleveland Indians teams of the late 90s-2001 were special.

God I miss that time. The country was so happy. Then 9/11 happened and everything went to shit.

It's ashamed they missed out on the playoffs in 2000. They ended the season very hot! Would of been interesting.

Indians 2000 91-71 good team that might have gone to the World series.

90 wins. Had they won 91, they would have faced either Mariners or A's to decide wild card.

I wonder if David Justice could have made a difference since they traded him that summer.

The Indians of 1995-99 never had any competition in the AL Central and I always wondered if that had any bearing on the fact that they didn't do as great in postseason. This '00 team was the one time the team was playing and winning pressure-packed games down the stretch and would have been perfectly battle-tested for the playoffs.

Well, 1994 was the first year that Cleveland became a good/elite team
On 1994, it was Cleveland and WSox neck to neck tied with the Royals right behind them. Take into consideration that the WSox won the AL West in 1993. I dont think the Royals could have kept up with them, and I dont think Baltimore could have kept up with them either. So either way, they both would have gotten in the postseason via AL Central and AL WIld Card.
On 1995 and 1996, no team was gonna catch Cleveland. They were too elite.
On 1997 and 1998, Cleveland was not elite. They were just ok. I really thought that the WSox was the best team those two years, mainly because of the combo of Albert Belle and Frank Thomas. But in 97, Frank was great and Belle wasnt. And in 98, Belle was historic great and Thomas was alright.
On 1999, Cleveland was elite. No one was gonna catch them.
On 2000, They did win 90 games and were in first place in the AL Wild Card once September 1 arrived. They would have won the WC had it not been for many injuries, and their horrendous September schedule, in which Cleveland barely had any off-days and had tons of doubleheaders; the schedule-maker ruined Cleveland in the end in 2000.
On 2001, Cleveland replaced Manny with Juan Gonzalez. I really thought that the WSox were gonna repeat as AL Central winners, but they stunk, and Minnesota surprised everyone. I think this is the first year that they had a challenge and won

There is only one reason the Indians couldn’t win the World Series in the 90’s: Pitching.
The Tribe’s rotation was never deep enough to compete with the Yankees or Braves.

@@afridgetoofar1818in 1997 Indians defeated the Yankees 3 games to 2 in the first round. Mesa blew the world series game 7 to the marlins.

95 and 97 playoffs the Indians beat Red sox, Mariners, Yankees and Orioles. Braves pitching was better in 95, mesa the reason Cleveland lost in 97.
