It’s good to have local friends for a better understanding of the local culture, but if a place is only safe if you’re with a local it means that it’s not a safe place in the first place.
Jalan bareng org lokal sih bagus biar lebih dalem pengertiannya, tapi kalau ada tempat yang cuma aman kalau ditemani org lokal artinya tempat itu emang nggak aman.

Try to reach jakarta outskirts, or at least south & eastern jakarta. Rich of cultural native inhabitants. Take time to go ragunan zoo. I am living around here, and you'll find my family restaurant called Warung Saco, a betawi (batavian) dish restaurant, near the trans jakarta bus station. And if you happy to explore the natural places that not touristic, you may go to remote area around bogor. There are a lot of magnificent natural scenery around. Meet the native people in their villages, enjoy the dishes they served while enjoying the waterfall beside the clear water creek or river. It would be awesome.
