    Bro - most excellent and triumphant review. The 1/18 kits are amazingly detailed and this zero is a prime example. Availability is hit and miss for 1/18 planes, but snagging one or two when you can gives a model that will last for years.

    In regards to the wing cannons- the A6M did mount two 20mm cannons-one in each wing. They were completely contained within the wing which eliminated a lot of drag- hence the two holes to fire out of. The BBI Zero was a fantastic model. It was released in four variations- two in green ( this video has the one with the yellow tail markings, which was one of the last produced by the company) and two in the light grey.

    The early Zero's didn't have cannons that extended beyond the leading edge of the wing though, so there would only be two holes, like on your model here, to indicate they were there when seen from the front. Later types did have cannons were the gun barrels extended beyond the leading edge of the wings though.

      @@winterstar3372 Thanks, I've been trying to remember what would have been the competition to collectables or modeling about that time. . It would have taken quite a sophisticated manufacturing operation to crank these out. Of course they certainly are collectable now. I've always built 1/48 scale with minimal detail. Then companies started building the big bombers in 1/48. Next came the super detailed 1/32 kits from 150 to 400 bucks. Maybe they chose the wrong distribution channels. I keep hoping to walk into a garage sale and find them marked for 5 bucks a kit :-):-). Do you know where they were originally made? And last do they make aircraft kits similar to these just not in 1/18? Seems like there are many aircraft museums popping up that would like to display these. Thanks for the input.

    • @winterstar3372
      @winterstar3372 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@c123bthunderpig Anytime. The heyday of the 1/18 scale military boom was in the mid-to-late 2000's. The big companies were 21st century toys and BBI in the 1/18 scale. After 21st century folded, JSI/Merit re-released some of the 21st century aircraft as well as developed new product. BBI eventually stopped after the special edition re-releases of the F-18, Blackhawk, and Bf-109. There were a few additional offerings in the 2010's, though. Some of the last JSI products were offered as both pre-built as well as model kit sets- these include the AV-8b Harrier, the MRAP, and the FW-190. As model just, they were released under the Hobbyboss and Trumpeter model kit brands. There would also be some re-issues of some of the 21st century aircraft by a company named Flight Wings. They did few aircraft, but tended to do them in multiple livery options, including ones that had not been offered before. If memory serves the Flight Wings aircraft were the Avenger, P-51, and Mig-15.

    As you can see, the cockpit was a tight fit, even for the smaller Japanese pilots. The average height for a Japanese man in 1941 was between 5'2" and 5'5" and their physical stature was slight. A strenuous physical fitness regimen during basic training and all the way during flight training, marked by deliberate beatings, kept the Japanese pilots very physically fit.
    The Japanese Zero-sen Reisen (Zeke or Zero), was a very compact plane, almost small yet it packed a lot of firepower for its time, two, 7.7mm machine guns and two, Ho 20mm cannon. The Japanese Naval authorities wisely wanted the Zero-sen to possess anti-bomber firepower.
    For all its superb qualities, it came at a fatal cost. The Zero-sen was unarmored and unprotected in every way. There was no selective armor plate for vulnerable engine parts. The fuel tanks were unprotected, non-self-sealing. The pilot had no backrest and headplate armor. All this had been omitted to keep the Zero's total weight at an absolute minimum, making it extremely maneuverable and fast-climbing. It's 1941 top speed of 331mph was modest, however, compared to American and European fighter planes. The 1944 A6M5c penultimate Zero-sen had a top speed of 351mph.
    Once the Allied fighter pilots learned of the Zero-zen's design weakness, they were quick to take advantage of it. Allied aerial tactics negated the Zero's superior maneuverability and thousands were blown out of the Pacific skies.

    this model looks nice, but..... Probably the company or person which has built that model never seen the aileron's mass ballance: Why that ballance has been mounted behind aileron axis instead of forward? Is it really works? Have they ever seen the aircraft?
