  • Split pea soup is so easy! It's a great for a meal or as a side dish. This will fill you up and warm your belly and it's so good!
Join me in the kitchen for other great cooking videos.
For this soup you will need:
Green and/or yellow split peas. Follow package instructions for soaking.
An Onion, some garlic finely chopped or grated
A Carrot, grated or finely chopped
    Ham or Bacon (optional)
    Butter (optional)
    water
Finely chop or grate the Onion, Garlic and Carrot. Set them in the pot with the butter to cook down and get soft over a low-medium heat. When that starts smelling delicious and the onions and carrot are getting softer, add the ham or bacon and the rinsed peas. Add enough water to cover the peas and stuff.
Bring that to a gentle boil while keeping an eye on it, stirring occasionally so the peas don't stick to the bottom.
Turn the soup down to low and let simmer for a few hours. Stirring occasionally so those peas don't stick and add water as needed to keep everything covered.
You will know it's done when the soup looks thick and creamy and the peas break apart easily. This is thick and delicious. It keeps well but will thicken up when put in the fridge. Water may need to be added while re-heating. This is great with crackers, buns or fresh baked bread.
Have fun cooking in the kitchen, enjoy this delicious meal. See you next time,
    Chox =)

Just make sure your peas are completely disolved at the end. You don't want split peas al-dente in your bowl. That will spoil it.
If it takes too long for them to disolve, just add a little water every time. This soup is made in advance, not on the clock. It's better to boil it longer. That will only improve it, as the starchyness will disappear.

what i love about Pea soup, is you can literally stuff a SHIT ton of vegetable in them and if you have kids or picky eaters who only want meat and bread. . . you can give them a hugely nutrient dense meal. . .
also, since soup is made in a crock pot or pan, and the liquid isn't drained, none of the nutrients which get into the water are lost like when you steam vegetables... you're getting a CRAP ton of vitamins...
i never used water, i use chicken or beef stock, if you add water.... mix adobe, salt or pepper in it...
however your recipe has a severe lack of vegetables :(

Lol. Skip. Where to start? How about "world famous"? This recipe ain't, unless you mean world-famous for its errors. For starters, how about 13:05 to describe and execute a simple recipe? Not if you're a narcissist, I guess. How about soaking the peas? Real chefs don't; they use broth, usually chicken and not water, and the dried peas absorb the flavor. Use a gentle simmer afterwards, not the rolling boil or rapid simmer depicted here. ("It's very thick and starting to stick to the bottom," is a result of you not knowing how to simmer a soup. Betcha the pot burned.) Real chefs don't grate the carrots; they want chunks for a bit of texture. Uncooked bacon isn't "leftover bacon", which is a phrase I've never seen before. If you actually have cooked leftover bacon, you probably burned that while making your burned soup. There's more but this is too disheartening to continue.
