7:48 My absolute favorite soup is split pea soup. I'm half Swede, and, a long time ago, my maternal grandmother shared with me that yellow split pea soup is made often in homes over in Sweden. Sadly, where I live in Washington, I can hardly ever find the yellow split peas; the stores only sell the green ones here. So, I just make the green split pea soup. Thank you Robin for this video.❤ P.S. I have never liked the flavor of bay leaves either Robin; I never use them in my cooking.

Thanks so much. Yellow split peas are hard to find here as well. Bay leaf? No thanks. 😆

I'm making this in a few days. Our temp was 88 today, but diving down to a high of 49 low of 38 in 3 days. I can't wait! I didn't know until recently that you can put up meat! There's a woman's sight on here who lives on a sustainable farm. You would Not Believe her canned storage cellar. I would love to have something like it, should I learn(ed) how to csn. Thanks for a good video!

Last week I made green split pea soup, and didnt have any ham. I put a few drops of liquid smoke in it, and it was pretty good. Use the liquid smoke sparingly though. I like to add a potato too - cut up in small squares, add it the last 20 minutes or so.

I agree Donna. A little liquid smoke goes a long way. Your soup sounds delicious. Thanks so much.

Oh God Bless your Nona! Sometimes if you ask the meat department in your grocery store they can help you. Thank you Aveymoon for taking the time to comment.

Always so excited to see a video of yours, Robin!! I have a HUGE ham bone and was just wondering what to do with it.

I'm making this today with yellow split peas with theft over ham bone from Thanksgiving, I've never made them with yellow only green. I think it should be the same.

Hello Addie. You will enjoy the yellow split pea soup. I always used the green as well but I found the yellow to be milder in flavor. I actually liked them very much. Your comment makes me want to make some as well. Thank you!
