  • Sinn is one of the most well-known German brands and a watch collectors' all time favorite. Yet, Sinn doesn't rely on big marketing campaigns or famous brand ambassadors or even fancy in-house movements to earn the respect of watch collectors. WHY do we love Sinn?

      Did you order it on the bracelet or the rubber strap? I am thinking that the new smaller clasp that was just released must go very well with the U50. I had seen it with the bigger clasp and felt that the clasp was too big in comparison with the svelte U50 case but the new one probably changes that.

    After 14 years of looking at Sinn watches I finally bought myself a Sinn watch. The 656 is my favourite but unfortunately it's no longer made. So I bought the 556A instead. I love this watch, it is so pure in its presentation. The bold hands and minute markers and the equally bold numerals all in stark contrast to the matt black dial. It all results in a highly legible watch. I also love the absence of advertising the watch' features on the dial. Just the Sinn logo and very discretely "made in Germany". There are no subtleties apart from the date window, do you really need the date so prominently enlarged by a Cyclops lens? Sizewise it's perfect for my smallish wrist. It's all the watch I need and nothing more.

    I’ve worn my first Zinn watch, a 105 in white, for several weeks. I customized it with integrated silicone strap. Beside just loving the Bauhaus-inspired dial, I knew I needed the tegimented bezel and bead blasted case because I am very hard on watches. I love this Sinn watch, but get tongue-tied explaining why. Now when I’m asked, I can just steer people to your reasonable, well-considered assessment. Thanks for this. “Built like a tank” indeed they are. You gave me a chuckle.

    • @TOKKANTE
      @TOKKANTE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the nice comments! Between the U1 and U50, it's definitely the U50 for me (better wearability, better movement, better lume, better bezel action...). Even though the U1 is sort of an icon for Sinn now, the U50 is a more refined version of it. Now the SAR Rescue is a different animal: first it's not a dive watch so you have to be aware of that (hint: an excuse to get both!). I love the SAR rescue too and that's also sort of an icon for Muhle by now. I'm not crazy about the bracelet version, I think this watch was made for the rubber strap and it will also wear smaller on it, but it's still kind of a beast. I'd say it's not an everyday watch like the U50 can be, but if you're fine with that then it's a statement piece. It will also have better lume than the U1/U50 for sure. For the movement, I think it's using the regular SW200 with 41 hours of PR, while the U50 now uses the updated version of the SW300 with 56 hours of PR (objectively better movement altogether). The SAR will also wear bigger at 42mm and with these kinds of extended lugs and 13.5mm thick while the U50 is small and thin at 11.15mm (seriously it wears smaller than 41 mm). I'd say everyday: U50 and weekend killer watch: SAR!

      Yeah the U50 wears well on my wrist (the wrist shot in the video was me in the boutique) but the others have so much more Sinn tech in them, I can't make up my mind!!! Go big or go home? Or go small and versatile?!

    • @johnnyguitar6697
      @johnnyguitar6697 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TOKKANTE For me it's an easy choice: if the watch doesn't fit well because of its size, then it's probably going to spend much more time in a drawer than on my wrist, so I'd go with the one that fits my wrist any time, even if it has a bit less tech to it. But you should have a look at the EZM3: though it's not tegimented submarine steel, it's still 500m water resistant, has anti humidity technology, special lubricants ensuring proper functioning at ultra high and low temperatures, and highly anti magnetic. All that in a package that's 41mm in diameter and 12.3mm thick.

    Great presentation! I'm a huge Sinn fan and own 3. They offer exceptional engineering and a pure tool style. Their luxury is their engineering, not some Marketing driven Veblen nonsense and questionable heritage. For me they offer what the Swiss did in the '50s, 60's - driving forward horological instrument technology. They do make some classic, great looking pieces too - for example the copper dial 356. I can certainly attest to Sinn addiction (as with Seiko), but they are excellent to wear, own and service and still great value.

    I may or may not be wearing a U50-T and I agree with you so much here. This watch is all about both technical use and durability. It's the watch that made me turn my head and examine the Sinn company. Overall, they're the company making watches that suit my needs nowadays. Heck, they even got me on my chronograph addition to my watch collection: the Sinn 144 60th Anniversary model. Their tegimentation technology is really the only watch finish that can easily go into salt water without a chance of rusting occuring. But the higher HV rating is really what sells me for durability.
    Oh, and for the the movements. I've been told online that the 60th year Anniversary 144 is actually powered by a Concepto/Sinn C99001. But the more I've looked into the C99001, the less information I found... So hopefully it's great at maintaining it's time accuracy and has a lever mechanism that doesn't cause minor gear damage when engaging and disabling the chronograph. Time will tell!

    • @TOKKANTE
      @TOKKANTE  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh you got the 144 60th, that's a looker! I haven't seen it in person yet. I have also heard about the Concepto movement and to be honest, I did not know anything about Concepto, looked into it and found out they specialize in high-end variations of the 7750. Also make the movement in the new Breitling Premier Heritage Datora. So that's actually a plus in my book!

      @TOKKANTE I can't wait to see it in person! Mine isn't supposed to ship until mid-June. But it is indeed good to know that such a movement has been used before. I also love Sinn watches. initially I though that I wanted the 903, but instead went for the 104 St Sa A, black dial with Arabic numerals... I love this simple pilot's watch. I wore it on my many international flying trips as a B-777 pilot.
    The other Sinn I have my eye on is the Frankfort World time, either the 6060 at 38.5mm or the 6096 at 41.5mm. Even though I have 7.6" wrists and very large hands, I am leaning towards the smaller 6060 model. These watches are simple reading GMTs showing three time zones.
    I wore a Rolex GMT 16750 for 38 years and it's only 39.2mm and looks fine in my wrist.

    • @TOKKANTE
      @TOKKANTE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's because you're so used to wearing the vintage GMT so you naturally gravitate toward the smaller 6060. Love the 903 as well but it's such a beast for my wrist. Always looks good on the wrist shots that Sinn posts on their IG but the model's wrist is 7.3"

    My one wish with Sinn is that they would offer different color combinations more often - in limited runs. Like a Sinn 857 UTC with orange instead of yellow. I understand that Sinn is most interested in technology and functionality, but some additional effort into making the watches visually appealing would be welcome.

      @TOKKANTE  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not so sure they're so focused on tech these days because they haven't come up with anything really new (or improved) in a long time. I've read they're focusing on increasing production a lot, so that means they sell but you're right, we need new options! I'd like to see an 857 with a TRUE GMT as well.

    I own the 104 and it's absolutely a cracking watch. The only downside is that it's.... too polished. There was a LE matte version, but to me that looks too 'super tooly' if that makes sense (in some images the bead-blasted steal looks like plastic). A perfect compromise would be to deliver the 104 in a (partly or completely) brushed finish. I had mine completely brushed by a professional watch polisher to make it more tooly without going for that super tooly bead-blasted finish.
    Things worth considering if you're contemplating the 104. But, like I said, a fantastic, versatile timepiece nonetheless!
    Great video! 👌

    • @TOKKANTE
      @TOKKANTE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My thoughts exactly!!! Did you watch my other Sinn video about the different finishes? I also think the 104 is too "blingy" while I am not crazy about the bead blasted finish. I would opt for the satinized/brushed tegimented finish, yet this is only offered on a VERY few models. I wish Sinn gave the option to select our preferred finishing at a premium.

    The Sinn 900 DIAPAL would probably push past the EZM 10 on Sinn tech count with the 80,000 A/m magnetic resistance-matching the rest of EZM 10's Sinn tech, less TESTAF certification. They're all amazing watches that are functional and humble, yet highly durable and precise. I definitely love Sinn watches! 🍻

    • @TOKKANTE
      @TOKKANTE  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The EZM10 is also Anti-magnetic as per DIN 8309 just like the 900, yet it does not have the logo so maybe the 900 is even more anti-magnetic? The EZM10 also houses the SZ01 in-house modified movement, the captive bezel (if that's a tech), and the black hard coating on the pushers. Little details but that still makes the EZM10 push ahead haha. Not that it's a competition anyway, there are both beasts but one needs to have the wrist for them!

    The Sinn 356 Flieger Acrylic on Bracelet has a diameter 38.5mm, and a height of 15.5mm! I would not wear that watch even if someone gave it to me for free. Moving to a flat crystal and flat, steel, non-display case back would reduce the height significantly.

    • @TOKKANTE
      @TOKKANTE  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is an issue that Sinn does not seem to think is very important as they just released their BEAUTIFUL 103 anniversary edition that looks gorgeous until you see it from the side and it's 17mm thick! That's a problem with most of their chronos, although they are not the only guilty ones (Omega Seamaster Chrono!) but it does bother me. That's why for me, I consider Sinn for divers and non chrono pilot pieces only (the 556 is 11mm, 836 is 10.8mm, the 856 11mm thin).
