Good question. I guess Bubsy is a higher seller than Klonoa. If Bubsy games didn't sell, then they would've stopped releasing new Bubsy games ages ago. I'm pretty sure Rayman is a higher seller than Bubsy, but the folks at Ubisoft just aren't interested in a new Rayman game for some reason.

Klonoa 2 was the game I grew up with and holds a special place in my heart. My mom was a single mom and we didn’t have that much money so we had hand me downs. What I really like about the Klonoa games, is the level design are really so enjoyable and not get too confusing to go through. often I get easily lost in platformer games, but in both 2 main Klonoa games, the levels are all in the good same difficulty with well tied up puzzles but didnt go so hard even to make you confused.

Where do I even begin with this franchise? In the midst of Mario, Sonic, Kirby, Crash Bandicoot, Banjo-Kazooie, Spyro, Mega Man, or modern mascots like Hat Kid, Niko, and Lucky. Klonoa was THE ONE in my opinion, and he deserved so much better than what he ended up getting. The gameplay, the sense of serenity, the honesty in game development, the narrative, the atmosphere, EVERYTHING was flawless.

There was an ad in German, I think. That advertised Lunatea's Veil for GameCube before getting scrapped. In the Wiimake's files, there was a hidden image upon observing. It said to be continued, hinting at the sequel to be put on the wii, before that got canned. What is also interesting, in Ridge Racer Type 4, in one of the tracks, there is a yellow billboard that advertises Klonoa: The Movie, which also got placed into the canned bin. I think he would be awesome as a cameo in Animal Crossing.

I couldn't tell you how many hours I put into my original copy on Klonoa 2. Me and my half sister would spend HOURS just replaying levels because it was so much fun. When the Phantom Reverie collection was announced I knew I had to get it and I had to have a physical copy. UNFORTUNETLY they didn't do a state side release of the physical edition. Luckily, I have amazing friends and they ordered me an EU copy for the Switch so I can have it. It was great to be able to experience the first game for the first time and to relive my memories of the second. It also helped me create new memories since I made it my 3rd ever let's play on my channel. I can only hope that one day, we'll get more from this wonderful little series. Great video MangaKamen!

Smiling Friends just did an episode where they had some computer animated, alien thing named Gwimbly who was a video game mascot that fell on hard times because of how his company his handling in a bad way. The episode also touches on the subject of video game companies choosing micro transactions instead games that are meant to entertain and enlighten gamers. Klonoa is another neglected video game mascot that has been screwed over by companies choosing profit over fun.

I briefly recall a period before the Klonoa 1&2 remake where a bunch of game reviewers talked about how underrated Klonoa was.
I can only say I was introduced to Klonoa back when Caddicarus reviewed Door to Phantomile. It's been on of my favourite franchises ever since.
Edit: I am practically clawing at my schedule and whatever money I have to be able to play the remake. Been wanting to for a very long time now.
Back when the remake was announced, it was one of the few times in recent memory when something actually made me yell in excitement.

I remember back in 1997, I was probably about 12 years old at the time... I had begged my mom for FF7 for Christmas. Now, my mom didn't have much money, and FF7 was sold out EVERYWHERE for a long time in my small town. Christmas day comes, and I open up what the wrapper off what was clearly a jewel case.... that game was Klonoa. I was happy to just get a game at all that year, but I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't the one I truly wanted but ohh boy, I couldn't put it down! I beat the game at least 4 times over Christmas vacation, perfecting every level and getting 100% on every run. I fell in love with it so much that it has become the one game I replay once a year during the holiday season. That same magic happened again when my mom got me Klonoa 2 in 2001.
Love you mom, you have always been the best!

Thank god for the Phantasy Reverie Series. Even if it’s not perfect, it’s nice that series still isn’t forgotten. Bandai Namco could stand to properly advertise the games though. Seriously, the only reason it did well from what I’ve read, is because of the fans coming up with #KLONOASWEEP
Also Klonoa would be great friends with Kirby and Rayman.
12:22 I will bring up that the N64 was less popular in Japan to the point that the Sega Saturn outsold it there and most developers went to the PS1 due to it being easier to make games for than the N64. Plus Crash Bandicoot did well in Japan. So I can see why they had it as a PS1 exclusive

the JP only thing reminds me of the similar thing with Mother 3... there's clearly a huge fanbase for these games yet for some reason it almost seems like an outright refusal at times to bring them to west and i honestly have no clue why that is. hopefully in coming years we get to see more older games finally able to travel outside their borders

What about Mappy? That's another really great franchise that's a really big hit in Japan, but for some reason suffers obscurity in the west. Majority of the Mappy sequels for the longest time are only Japan exclusive. That's slowly fixing that now, but the series as a whole is still highly under-appreciated. If you think Mother and Klonoa suffered in the west, I recommend to check out the history of Mappy, it's a franchise that didn't get much love outside of Japan despite it's a really great franchise. I'm one of the few people in the US who's a huge fan of Mappy. The term few might be an exaggeration. But it sure feels like that sometimes.

Klonoa is my number 2, just behind Sonic. Just like with Sonic, I´m a Klonoa Fan from the first moment back in 97. I own the Originals and the Remaster. Because the Remasters seams to sell well, I hope we´ll get one day Klonoa 3. But also a Sonic X Klonoa game would be a dream come true.

Klonoa's story for me was pretty emotional, the only other two games that made me feel such sorrow were Library or Ruina and Homeword.
(plus the Moo's in the Klonoa games were cute, and here is my free Wahoo for the comments)

I love this game. Klonoa 2 was a part of my childhood and i finally got to play klonoa 1 i think 1-2 year(s) ago, when ever the phantsy series came out. I hope that if we don't get klonoa 3 soon, please let the other games get remasters and ported officially. I would play klonoa volleyball, I don't care

The real problem is that Namco doesn't have those devs anymore, even if they wanted to make a new game. They don't know how; it'd just be an imitation or worse, a misunderstanding of the series. I personally think the handheld games already started doing this to a degree; so if that's what we'd get from "new klonoa" I'd rather not see it.

I started by the GBA game, and despite it being different from the main 2, i love the idea of putting his updated design and turn it into pixel art. And the gameplay is more puzzle than action. Anyway, i played the first game recentpy but i don't have a PS2 for the 2nd game. To me, it's an underused series overall and should be rememberer and succeed more, kinda like Sonic did (but without the 2010 - 2017 games happening)

I’m noticing a trend: everyone who grew up playing Klonoa 2 says it’s one of their favorite games of all time. Which is fair, because it was an EXCELLENT game. The music, the story, the characters, the gameplay (while simple, still enjoyable). I wish we got more out of the series, but I still play 2 on the PS2 and PR because it’s just so good.
Really hope that some day it’ll get more recognition.
Also look, more JP only releases that make me sad.

Bandai Namco has basically given up on most of their classic series in favor of anime games these days. I've also been hoping the .hack series makes a comeback as well, but I think the success of CyberConnect2's, the developer of .hack, anime games has gone to their head. It's honestly gotten to the point that CC2 pretty much gave up on trying to convince Bandai to greenlight their original games anymore and now they're self publishing them. I'm actually pretty hopeful they'll do a spiritual successor to .hack someday now because their current Fuga series has quite a few .hack references throughout it.
Anyway you could probably blame CC2's success for completely changing Bandai's mindset into this pretty much "Anime games only" mindset they've currently got, but even they got tired of their creativity being stifled by them. I hope the creators of Klonoa or fans of the series create a spiritual successor some day because for the foreseeable future Bandai is just going to focus on annually releasing Dragon Ball Z and Sword Art Online games instead of caring about their amazing catalogue of classic series. Heck the Tales of series their most profitable JRPG series is being neglected to some extent as well with the lack of remasters/remakes of it's older games, seriously 3/4ths of that series isn't playable on current consoles.

I want Klonoa games do like Tom and Jerry movies with Nutcracker and Wily wonka.
Insert them into a retelling of Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon, under the premise that Klonoa is a dream traveller who just, does... that. That he experiences stories of others through dreams, like Assassin's Creed or Inception.
From the perspective of the main character he's something like a Fae spirit, or a remote stand form jojo's bizarre adventure, but in each game he would have a limited understanding of the separation between who's the real person there, like a non-lucid dream before you wake up.
He's just embarking on missions to respect the expereince ,and help people out in same kind of tome as Tegami Bachi or Jigoku Shoujo, sort of a semi-protagonist. Or a bit like Navi from OoT, as the diagetic rationalization of new gameplay mechanics. Then they would have these layered stories, like for the example of Fragile Dreams Gunz would occupy Crow, and they would have this separate interaction with their own issues and the original game's relationships.

I think I sort of figured out the significance of the Kingdoms and elements a while ago.
It's pretty intuitive to grasp that Tranquility and Discord are in opposition, but I'll have to admit I wrecked my brain with Joy and Indecision, by coincidence I was listening to videos about Jungian psychology and discovered something that made it all click. The elements indirectly represent the four basic psychological functions which is also demonstrated with a compass within the related theory, where the functions form two pairs of opposites. This also might explain the Compass part of Leorina's boss stage name.
It's also a bit of a stretch to me to say that the elements represent emotions. Sure joy is clearly an emotion, tranquility works too as a stand in for peaceful, and to me it's a stretch but in a pinch I could accept discord as some sort of emotion. Indecision it's a bit tricky, I mean sure you can be doubtful due to insecurity( from fear) or confused (from being surprised), but it it's something you can also easily experience due to a lack of any emotion or drive.

japan in general seems to have an issue with localizing its games. Like you mentionned Tales of, the series was loved by its fan and Tales of Symphonia was a pretty big success. Yet they refused to localize like half of their games. It took ages for us to get Tales of Symphonia PS2 and Vesperia PS3 version internationally. Like man I get wanting to target a local market first and foremost but a lot of times they did the bare minimum and I barely saw marketing being done.
