- Here is Benny Greb paying tribute to Vinnie Colaiuta with a cover of his 1994 release „I’m Tweeked“.
Vinnie’s original version amazed drummers worldwide with its 16th note shift in the drum part while the music stays. Not only did Benny interpret the song in his own special way, but he also sang all the instrumental parts himself and arranged it as an a-cappella version (just like all other songs on his new album GREBFRUIT2 as well). This track is something special and will go down in drumming history. Enjoy this epic cover.

The most impressive thing about this performance is the consistency of the left foot hi hat. Through the groove displacement as well as the solo, it never falters. Benny is a beast.
Right on! It's one thing to keep the non-displaced beat in mind, another to commit the left foot to it so stubbornly. Very inspirational.

The thing about Benny is that his style and 'feel' are very fluid and dynamic. I don't find him to be the most technical drummer but he has a very musical feel which has gotten even more enjoyable to listen to

I love that Benny's just as at home playing the most simple fill as he is when tearing it up. It takes musicianship to know when to do one or the other while being just as capable of doing either.

If you want a drier cymbal all
You have to do is spray polyurethane on it. It makes it super dry, but be careful when you do it and what cymbal you do it to. It’s a hit or miss with how it sounds and totally depends on the cymbal.
Benny just gets it...Not only is he covering a legendary drum track from just about the most highly respected and acclaimed drummer in the history of drums. He's doing in such a respectful, artistic, downright brilliant manner that it just makes you proud to love and value truly great music....

Man, what a good idea. I often complain to myself (or find excuses within myself) not to write more music because I don't play a pitched instrument proficiently enough. I have a great ear, degree in music, but then I say "hey I need someone else to write a track I can play on." Now, listening to Benny's originals and this cover (I was working at the MD festival when Vinnie performed this live, so it's always been a favorite), I'm just reminded, where there is a will, there is definitely a way.

Yes.
A lot of it has to do with the mics, room, and production but yes these drums sound really good as well.

That stacker is so nice for a large stack. I love the technical ability of Benny and others that dont use such a large set up. Benny knows how to use just about every part of the drum kit. The innovation and creativity keeps me interested in learning about my kit and the different sounds that can be produced from it.
Omg we need these recordings in high quality either on Spotify, or anywhere else! I enjoy these more (both recording/mastering quality and musical sense) than the album.

I want that floor-tom sound for Christmas
A good maple 16x16 with triple flanged hoops. Remo emperor coated top and ambassador coated bottom. Spread out like 5 cottonballs you buy for a little money at the drugstore on the bottom head, inside the shell. Mute the top with a moongel or other big gel thing. Tune both heads just over fingertight. Very loose! Rumble and control my friend...

The Music was very new and adventurous. I want to be a jet pilot and fly like Benny does it!
I was noticing the cymbal combinations almost right away… and they were also adventurous in my opinion. Benny… you get so much from your toms, given you use a 10” and a 16” only! Your extra snare was used well, really adding spice just in time for that spot of the piece. You served the song very well… and I hope you are doing guest recordings for artists a lot, so they can make use of your ability to do that.

I have been a drummed for over 20 years now and I had gotten so bored with drumming. Benny has inspired me again after all of these years. The last person ti that was Gavin Harrison. I realized that creativity is way better than chips, but chops and creativity AND pocket are so beautiful. I want to play again. I am inspired by this dude. He's sooooooo good man. His playing is SO tasteful and incredible and just excellent. He is the embodiment of what a drummer should be in my opinion. He is probably my all time favorite now.
