Not very shocked about how all 3 of the least populated Michigan counties are in the UP. Keweenaw is just so far north that it's not really worth living there unless you're retired or have a summer home up there. In Ontonagon's case, you might as well just live in Houghton at that point. Weird, I was expecting the counties in the Northwest part of South Dakota to be the least populated. There's very little up there for towns. Lots and lots of ranches I guess.

I decided to go with the 2022 predictions from worldpopulationreview, which uses different algorithms and past data to predict current populations.
