Really interested in the new cases that can possibly fit this! The thickness of this radiator is what was a problem, even with cases that could officially fit 420 rads, like the Fractal Define 7 or Meshify 2. Only their XL versions were able to fit it without problems and possibly cutting away parts of the fan edges.
I put my LF3 420 in a LianLi LanCool3, top mount, hoses forward, still takes rear 140 and 3 front 140s, requires removal of rear 140 for install/uninstall.. I like :)
I replaced my Lian Li O11 Dynamic EVO with the new Lian Li O11 Dynamic EVO RGB to fit this ALF3 420mm RGB version. Also my RTX3090 GPU is mounted vertically.
What's killing me about this AIO is the way they mounted the tubes on the waterblock. You can't even rotate it. This would have been an instant buy if they left more options there.
@@eclampsium Not sure what part was confusing. The AIO has elbow joints attached to the bottom of the waterblock. They are limited in the direction they can swivel. On top of that, the mounting system only allows for the AIO to be mounted with those elbow joints on the bottom, or inverse on the top, which is only viable with an Intel CPU and not the AMD. Why? Because they chose to offset the AMD mount. In short, you really only have one way to mount this AIO, which is highly restrictive and does not play nice with AMD + Vertical mounted GPU configurations.
The novelty of the fan design suggests that in the Arctic they finally decided to think seriously about cooling processors of the 14th generation and vice versa, including without forgetting about the motherboard
Motherboards, liquid or air coolers are great products, but the real problem is INTEL processors, 13900K/KF -14900K/KF - 13900KS these three processors are literally like an electric stove. Wherever we are in the world, we all do the same thing: We download PL1 and PL2 250-255w, but we cannot see the required 5.6ghz basic boost speed in test applications, and even if the processor does not perform thermal throttling, it still cannot show its required power due to low W. There is a constant vicious circle. If we do not lower PL1-PL2, thermal throttling occurs and the processor speed decreases. Or if we lower PL1-PL2, we get rid of thermal throttling but the processor speed decreases again. The real solution to this problem is that Intel needs to produce much more efficient processors. I would also like to hear the solutions and comments of other friends here. my system is Rtx 4080 Super + z790 + 13900KS + Corsair 420mm liquid cooler. Thanks for the video, buddy.
VRM fan test outside of a computer case with good airflow will definitely have an impact on temperatures, but not sure it would have as big of an impact inside a case with good airflow.
Maybe they can offer different pump head covers to just pop on the pump head for more costumization in the future. But I also like this new version more.
Aluminum radiator will cross contaminate with the other metals in the closed loop. The metal debris mixture suspended in the liquid coolant will build up and clog over critical flow points - over a year or two, the aio will be scrapped.
@@C20F any air-cooler with single or optional dual fan configurations. I use a Noctua D15S Chromax - but any branded air-cooler would work, just make sure to check for motherboard compatibility.
What’re your thoughts on the contact frame? If you could install it with four screws instead of two it would be better, as I don’t want to remove my own contact frame 😊
@@langer1972don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice idea for a AIO and I know it’s better then the stick ILM, but if you watch reviews, the two screws give uneven pressure
Thanks for the review. Looking really good, think will get it (the 360 version), or next version, once the AMD 9800X3D is out, till then I got Ryzen 7700 (All-core 5.25Ghz and Single-core @5.5Ghz with TjMax @88C) with Cougar Poseidon GT240 fans running @70% max = performance/noise really good, ear level less than 40db during load with 3080Ti, idle close to 27db.
I'm heading for an Arctic Freezer # 360 model after seeing this and other reviews where it has beaten out other aios on normalized noise test. On 35Db no one aio will match it... I was trudging to find a case that would accept it on top mounting and discovered that the Lian Li 216 has an air-cooling and a water-cooling mount mode. on this last one it will allow for upping from 55 to 70mm tall aio. Definitely going this route. The Galahad is competent to but at much more noise expenses. I'm heading to Lian Li 216, arctic freezer 3 and phantecs t30 fans... only the best performance/noise ratio stuff...
This is going to be the bare minimum if you want to overclock the upcoming 14900KS. It's a 410w, 1400BTUh CPU which is an astronomical amount of heat output.
i was about going to buy the Lian Li Galahad II Trinity Performance 360, as I have seen as a big recommendation in other video, but now I don't know. could you help me please
I'm using the Galahad II Trinity Performance 360 atm. Performance wise it's a beast! But the pump does have some distinct noise when 2500rpm and above, up to max. I had to RMA mine once due to Lian Li having a pump failure issue with some of the earlier batches. As far as I know the new ones to marked should be fixed now. But after seeing the A LF III reviews I actually had to order one myself. The cost difference, VRM cooling, surposed low pump noise and 6 year warranty seem like a no brainer🤩 The other AIOs have got some serious competition with this one I think👌
@@trothfox2160 I’m sure others will update the mounting to some sort of contact frame also 😊. We have the GA II LCD and the backplate on that AIO is terrible.
Is it a great cooler? Yes, but the cooler mounting mechanism especially for AM4 are the worst design ever. The screws come off super easily and you will have to compress the leaf spring quite a lot if you want to mount it. Took us hours and many failed attempt until it mounted (motherboard was bendy not sure how it did not break). Might be the worst cooler installation design I have ever seen.
My previous experiences with AiOs have made me rather "gun shy." Granted this was over 3 to 5ears ago; but, I lost two "high end" PCs due to unannounced failure of the AiOs. One had its pump "give up the ghost" while the computer was left unattended (my fault) and the other sprung a leak on the CPU and fried the CPU, motherboard, and even the Sound Blaster card. I swore I'd never trust another AiO ever again; but, maybe it is time for me to reconsider.
@@deuswulf6193 One was made by Corsair. It was a CW something or nother. It had a model number that would rival names of medications. lol The other I don't remeber as it came in the system; but, that was built by a local pc shop that is no longer in business.
@@MMOPC78 That would explain it. I also had a corsair die on me. From what I know they cheaped out on the OEM, as for a bundled AIO supplied by a local shop, yeah those are usually low end. The higher end pumps, such as the Cooler Master Atmos list a 250000 hour lifespan, which is actually the highest I have ever seen in the spec sheet for these. Usually its around 50,000 hours. Anyways, you should be fine with the top shelf AIOs like that.
@@deuswulf6193 Yeah... The shop I bought the 2nd PC from went under 6 months after I purchased my system. From what I found out later: they got their backsides handed to them in court and had to file bankruptcy. Alot of people paid for systems they next got.
I recently installed this in a new build (420 AIO version) and a couple things: - The fans are trash, two of them don't even light up, I'd HIGHLY recommend replacing them for something better - The mounting system, at least for AM5 (AMD), was EXTREMELY nerve wracking and ROUGH for me and I'm a dude with large strong hands. Not sure how most people are meant to mount these without either breaking something or just not being able to flex that mounting bracket enough to mount it properly. So yea, get 3x better 140 fans to replace them, and be prepared for a ROUGH mounting application.
you just got unlucky with your parts, usually the fans are strong enough - not sure which fan could be better, you also did no tmention any. the mounting on AMD is much easier than on Intel and you can switch the CPU easy. i guess you just had a bad day . i have the 280mm version on AMD 16 COre and it was easy to mount and i just switched yesterday to the white verion very easy took only 15 Minutes..
To make AM4-5 installation easier screw the pump head onto the mounting brackets before screwing the mounting brackets down avoids all the issues people have and a good time saver.
The Fractal Torrent is designed specifically for air cooling. I wanted one myself but since I wanted to get an LF II 360 I decided against it. The Thermalright Phantom Spirit or Peerless Assassin should work wonderfully with that case.
Unfortunately, the radiator is much too thick at 38mm. My case only allows a maximum of 34mm. Too bad, it sounded very attractive. In black it currently costs only 80,- €
@theTechNotice Just installed the LF III 420 (front mount with tubes at bottom, single control cable), 14900KS on Asus z790 ProArt Creator Wifi. The AIO pump seems like it's pretty loud even when PC is idle. My old Corsair H150i is silent. How loud is yours at idle?
I've read about someone with a similar issue. The fix is supposedly something about plugging the pump header into a different place than the fans. I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but do try looking it up. And let me know if you fixed it. :)
He just measured it wrong, it is actually the same size as on the previous version. What he did was measure the length of the new one, which is 44mm and the width of the previous one but thought it was the length and that is 40mm. So both are actually 44mm long and 40mm wide.
Yeah my guess is it will be an air cooler or a much more premium model with extremely similar specs but an LCD screen since that seems to be popular. I’d just still with what u ordered.
I ordered the 280mm white rgb version to cool an R7 7700. Hopefully it's gonna do well. I love your videos, but this wasn’t a good test. The P7 is not an issue, it’s a feature (boosting) of the 14th gen. 1) It would be good to know the SP score of that 14900k to know his efficiency , 2) Asus MCE should be enabled Remove all limits, 3) SVID behavior set to Trained, 4) AVX enabled and user specified to 0. Please look at the SVID. For just 1 run of CB or 10 min, shouldn’t be above 290W. It’s a simple CB23 test, not CB15Extreme, CB24 or Y cruncher VST+VT3 or SFT. You have to tune you VF curve and then move the curve with IA_LL’s.. that’s the proper way. Then, as many users posted here, the T30 at 3000RPM or the BeQuiet Silent wings Pro 4 at 3000RPM are a must for any rad. All AIOs work pretty much the same, I have a Nucleus, an LT750, and the old EK Elite. These CPUs require tuning, even if you get one binned. The other hint would be, ICCMAX to 420A, in ASUS BIOS should be set to 12, to avoid any current transient spike (for long-term tests)

@@benchvirgin4243 Are the tubes long enough to mount Tubes Down in the Front of Meshify 2 XL?
What's killing me about this AIO is the way they mounted the tubes on the waterblock. You can't even rotate it. This would have been an instant buy if they left more options there.
don't understand your comment. I liked exactly that they could be bended and rotated a little bit on the water block...
I wish they sold the radiator/pump without the fans for those who just want to upgrade and keep their previous fans.
Arctic should by now start making car radiators. that's a massive one
Nice video! What material is the provided contact frame made of? Plastic or metal?
I doubt it'll make as much of a difference on the VRM temperatures, in a proper ventilated case. But I certainly could be wrong.
The new PC can work as room heater too. It shows that our technology needs to improved 10 folds, to get efficiency without power loss as heat.
It all goes to heat in the end. The only way to improve is lower power consumption. Big changes needed
Love to see what this will do with Noctua vs the P12 Max fans.
I just got the Lian Li 360mm LCD AIO and it’s pretty nice. I donno I just think the Lian Li fans are soo damn sexy

Why did you choose this one over the 420? I recently bought the i9-12900KS and I'm hesitating between the 360 and 420...
3:13 .. I have have exactly opposite opinion about what means "minimal" .. v2 is minimal, v3 is "many many little pieces that can break"
Well, you're wrong.
My 420 is keeping my 14900k at 20-30c idle, 35-40c gaming in 4k, 78c during CPU stress test.... unreal!
i got this cooler 420mm and its great, got it on an amd socket, and let me say, its a nightmare to install, so be prepared
The cost difference, VRM cooling, surposed low pump noise and 6 year warranty seem like a no brainer🤩

POMP blOck definently changed
My previous experiences with AiOs have made me rather "gun shy." Granted this was over 3 to 5ears ago; but, I lost two "high end" PCs due to unannounced failure of the AiOs. One had its pump "give up the ghost" while the computer was left unattended (my fault) and the other sprung a leak on the CPU and fried the CPU, motherboard, and even the Sound Blaster card. I swore I'd never trust another AiO ever again; but, maybe it is time for me to reconsider.
What brands were the AIO? The ones that use Apaltek as their source seem to have a high failure rate.
@@deuswulf6193 One was made by Corsair. It was a CW something or nother. It had a model number that would rival names of medications. lol
The other I don't remeber as it came in the system; but, that was built by a local pc shop that is no longer in business.
Thats why im going with a deepcool Air cooler with me new build. God forbid a $150 AIO leaks and breaks my 4080 super
I recently installed this in a new build (420 AIO version) and a couple things:
- The fans are trash, two of them don't even light up, I'd HIGHLY recommend replacing them for something better
- The mounting system, at least for AM5 (AMD), was EXTREMELY nerve wracking and ROUGH for me and I'm a dude with large strong hands. Not sure how most people are meant to mount these without either breaking something or just not being able to flex that mounting bracket enough to mount it properly.
So yea, get 3x better 140 fans to replace them, and be prepared for a ROUGH mounting application.
"a ROUGH mounting application" sounds like something to look forward to ;)
you just got unlucky with your parts, usually the fans are strong enough - not sure which fan could be better, you also did no tmention any. the mounting on AMD is much easier than on Intel and you can switch the CPU easy. i guess you just had a bad day . i have the 280mm version on AMD 16 COre and it was easy to mount and i just switched yesterday to the white verion very easy took only 15 Minutes..
To make AM4-5 installation easier screw the pump head onto the mounting brackets before screwing the mounting brackets down avoids all the issues people have and a good time saver.

Does this fit inside the Fractal Torrent? the old one's radiator was a bit too big to fit in the front, how about this one?
rad is the same size :)
Torrent - just perfect case for air cooling. But water - not for him.
Didn't you watch the video? 1:50
It fits if you cut up or remove the bottom fan bracket.

Question: Since the wires are lead through the tubing, am I able to change out the ARGB fans with others without trouble?
IHS is bigger on new CPUs so makes sense for the contact plates to be bigger.
He just measured it wrong, it is actually the same size as on the previous version. What he did was measure the length of the new one, which is 44mm and the width of the previous one but thought it was the length and that is 40mm. So both are actually 44mm long and 40mm wide.

The pump can make noise in certain rpm ranges so you can manage to not let it be at those rpms with this new separate cable.
Best would be to let the pump run at 100% all the time but then have the VRM fan & rad fans be controlled by CPU temp, just like in the video

Would putting thermal paste on the magnet for the small fan improve the cooling?
Which fractal case do you mean? ;)
i've neve liked AIO coolers as I rhink that unless AIO is the only option that works then if you're going to use liquid then just go all out and get the best you can. This however I would definitely buy as I thought V2 was awesome but like you what put me off was the design of the pump block. With the new design if I were being forced to use AIO then this would be my first choice without a doubt
The only logical reason to go for AIOs at this point is noise, and even that is competitive.
Odd... I have the Corsair 320mm Corsair iCUE H150i Elite LCD XT INSIDE a Lian Li 011 case and my 14900k is matching your scores with that same thermal throttle for a split second in the beginning of the test till the fans and cooler catch up to contain the 14900k.
I'm not seeing any difference. 🤔
Great video!
The other hint would be, ICCMAX to 420A, in ASUS BIOS should be set to 12, to avoid any current transient spike (for long-term tests)
how tight do those cpu bracket screws actually need to be?
How was 270 watts thermal throttling?
