The object you picked up at 1:45 is a cypress knee. Some of the larger and prettier ones are made into table lamps...among other things.
5:18 pickled brain.. probably a delicacy in some countries.
Ratcliff I had already eaten :)
I'm a book collector /voracious reader...it kills me to see those abandoned books strewn around and rotting away like that.. never the less... Interesting project,CB..👌
The brown object you picked up is a Cypress knee. They are all over the south, mostly around swamps.
Cool place! That same Camel ad is listed on eBay and dates from 1963.
LOL I saw that! Pg. from a magazine going for ten bux. Seems our CamelMan Bill was a SeaLab Aquanaut involved in a sabotaged deep sea project that killed one of his coworkers. He later wrote about it, pinning the blame on the Navy.
TheSWolfe I know, what a story! I love looking up the old stuff seen in these videos, it helps date the home and also provides a history lesson lol
:)
Now this was just fun & your quips keep me cracking up.... Wet & I mean in the worst way 😅😅 Keep on enjoying life & sharing your fun times!
Jane Smith Thank you! I appreciate it
We can't believe you didn't open the freezer... you know there was the body which the brain came out of inside! We both were shouting... "Open the freezer!" LOL!
John Middleswarth It was rusted shut good :) And if I did open it up I would probably would have vomited on video :)
John Middleswarth open freezer oh no... I'm always telling him to run the other way ....any way either way ... he doesn't listen... lol lol...
+The Carpetbagger The "brain in the jar" had awakened my morbid curiosity .... I too was hoping you'd open the freezer (I can of course say that, 'cause I was not in smelling distance of it, lol)
+Quiet Ghouls if you watch any video after this I always open freezers :)
Cool thankyou.
Wow. Old school Jacob. Wow
What an awesome place! It must have been fabulous in its time, so sad to see it as it is now. I've found this video 4 years after posting so presumably even less left now 😞
i was like dint go thru those woods!!! lol
but you went in that shed anyway!!!!
I really enjoy your videos!! Thank you for sharing and PLEASE Be Careful!!!! :)
Teala Powell Thank you much! I try to be safe, but if anything happens it will make a great found footage movie :)
LOL.....You have a good point there!! :)
Love your vids.i am a new subbie☺
Lorraine Hendrikx Appreciate it! Welcome aboard!
So cool..
Really cool place and a lot of books are still there you shout reopen this store. ;) :D
The books are a little soggy
10:30 double structure is ideal tiny home structure. Quite cool. Ur vids give me so many ideas (Im collecting ideas build my own tiny home) ur vids the best. Thanks
lots and lots of books must be very old thanks mr. carpetbagger
I'm really enjoying watching your videos, whats that tune at the start of your vids> really catchy
Looks like moonshine!
agree plastic jugs = moonshine
Love it when you explore all these old houses. Fascinating.
You should have taken a pry bar with to open up that barred door. Who knows? You might have helped the police to close a cold case. 🥶
Brain in a jar!! Rolaids to wash it down!! OMG.....too funny! Love your stuff!
+MissPickletoes Thank you!
Those cages looked like pigeon coops fir homing pigeons.
This video is wild. I like your narrative. Good. I have to check out more videos. If you are around, let me know.
-Jeff Goes Random
I have not seen you do an abandoned home in any new videos.
Bravo!😀 So much better than Adam the Woo.
steven von dem hill Hey now, slow down there, Adam is a huge inspiration to me and gave me a lot of advise that turned out to be very valuable. I still strive for the sort of dedication he gives to his vision.
@ 2:17, yr Harlequin Romance novelist, Kate Starr, is really Enid Joyce Owen Dingwell. Hmmm. I wonder why she changed her name?
Hey Carpetbagger , I recently stumbled across your channel and I must say I have taken a instant liking your personal sant on narration . I found myself grinning through the whole video . ( in a good way ) ! You ended my day on a good note . Thank you very much and I do believe you have possibly become a new favorite ! 👍👍
Thank you! That means a lot!
hi carpet cool find im a big fan
Appreciate it
Can you look at the dates on the jars?
kaitlyn lawrence I didn't but I will try in the future :)
thanks :D
Thanks for a great explore. Love your sense of humor. Maybe wear a mask? Just a thought. Question: In your intro you drive past a herd of some sort of deer. I was just wondering what they are.
jolie72046 A mask? I think its to late for that :) That is a herd of Elk in Cataloochee, NC
The brown item you picked up but didnt know what it was, it is a bird perch, due to its size most likely for parrot or cockatoo, and the white stuff was bird pucky. :P
Okay, I think you are right
Have to keep reminding myself, not watching a horror film, not watching a horror film, not watching a horror film...
Those cages appear to be chicken pens and they probably held chicken fights there while guzzling moonshine.
There is actually a lot of cock fighting around here
Pidgeon coop!
Looks like someone was in to raising pigeons!
1:43 possible aquarium decoration fake coral?
Love your videos, and this was another great one! I respect that you don't give out exact locations, but I was wondering what state this is? I live in KY and this place actually looks familiar.
Kathy Stidham I just don't want hooligans to use my videos to find places to trash :) This is in Turtletown, TN right past the NC border
I totally understand! I relate so much to most of your locations, as I live in the south. Thanks so much!
look like a place for moonshin
Since when is anyone afraid of a tiny gentle bird? He would jump out because he is terrified of you = )
[ goes into book store, leans over to looks at something, stumbles and glasses fall off and lenses break ] "that's now fair, there was time now, there was all the time I needed, that's not fair! that's not Fair!!" [ breaking down crying ]
That Twilight Zone episode freaked me out!
Glad you had made it out of this place!!! Floor looked extremely sketchy YIKES!
Probably a body in the freezer and the mutant son in the boarded bedroom. Place is creepy!
Thats so sad. That was someones everything at one time, I'm sure. Home, business... :(
They probably took down the stairs.
But why???
It just amaze me to see all that stuff just abandoned....nobody cares to clean it up...but look how much stuff people have....
Outbuilding looks like a pigeon loft.
that's a pigeon coop
hsvguy45 Hmmmm, wonder why they had pigeons
I like abandonment, but I hate human-caused destruction. Good video though.
How could you not open the freezer! Lol I agree! Nice video tho, thank you!
I now have a rule that I always open freezers
The extra shed thing is for homing pigeons i guess...
Sad
you really need to be wearing a mask when going into these kind of places, black mold kills.
that was a piece of Cyprus you picked up in the bookstore
saved and blessed Vance You may be right, it looks like a cyprus knee
The Carpetbagger years go in Florida you used to be able to find furniture, tables mostly made out of those trees they were really cool but I don't think they're allowed to cut them down anymore.
You must be impervious to poison oak and ivy... We're itching just watching...
John Middleswarth Funny you mention it. I actually have no reaction to either, I guess that's what allows me to do these videos :)
do you ever think about poison ivy, poison sumac, spiders,Freddie Kruger?? lol
+Buckl I am immune to poison plants, I am not afraid of spiders and I never ever sleep :)
I've never gone exploring in the rural south, I usually stick to major cities or small towns, maybe I should follow your lead so I can check out cool places like this
the. thing you picked up is a cypers knee it grows at the swampy roots of the tree
Add me to the list of new subscribers! Being a book lover I was a little leery about "abandoned" and "bookstore" being used together. Visions of once good books now damp and moldy danced through my head. I recognized "New York Confidential", old but not a collectible to my knowledge, from many years of working for a Red Cross Book Fair. I saw a Harlequin Romance or two, good for kindling. Thankfully none of the books I could see appeared to be valuable though there may be a gem sometime. In the recycling at our sale I once found a 1930 edition of James Joyce's "Ulysses" published by Shakespeare & Company in Paris in 1930. I think that was from when you went to jail for having a copy! If you ever find a first edition of "The Great Gatsby" it's $100K and an original of Poe's "Tamerlane" I believe goes for almost a quarter million. There may be some extremely valuable books in those abandoned houses but I actually hope there aren't because those books may be lost.
Andrew Brendan I appreciate it! Hopefully there is nothing valuable, because they were all a little soggy
No the disfigured mutant son was in the freezer. Well all of him that wasn't in the freezer. His brain was in the jar. I enjoy watching your videos you make me laugh.
Jennie Wallick Thank you much! Hopefully I don't scare people away :)
CB, when do u think this place was abandoned? Early 90's?
Not sure
New subscriber. Love the commentary as you explore and your sense of humor!
What if Jimmy hoffs's body was in the freezer
I should have checked
The Carpetbagger, between the freezer and the boarded-up room you probably missed at least one body :-)
Wonder how long it was abandoned? Looks like it's stuck in the 50's/60's. Or did I miss you saying something about it?
Slightlyevil I don't know how long this was abandoned, but that sounds about right
Those legs you found in the beginning are Jesus' legs from a crucifix. Awesome video. Keep up the entertaining work!
At 10:44 someone might have said already. However the wooden things behind you are chicken crates.
looks like they had pigeons
Michele DeRusha/Morgan Some sorta birds
maybe there's a dead body in the freezer , i hope not
Looks like the perfect life at one time. The Book Coop? :)
joni griffin Hey, now that's a name :)
I couldn't help but think about the Walking Dead and Zombies popping out haha. Love your videos! So cool!
I love all the houses you find. This place looked like it was Grandma's little creepy cottage!
ever heard of snakes!
If I found some birds in that nest, I would scoop them up and take them home. ❤
I could smell the mold thru my screen. yuk.
man, after you go in these places don't you just want to go home and take a hot shower!
Pretty much
You should really wear a mask. That mold can't be very good for your lungs in the long run.
lf you liked the cat picture why not take it before some one else does,,you would be pisses off if some one did,
william redfern I guess it's exploring code don't take anything leave everything that's what I heard. At least
Dude I love your videos, but holy crap you could easily fallen through the floor of that two-level shack. Not to mention that weird little balcony. I swear, America loses over 48 000 carpetbaggers a year to aging abandoned homes each year!
you are moving around to fast. I feel sick.
+Misty Jaromscak Sorry!
Like
I carpetbagger my name is mark North Carolina I've been watching your videos I can't unnoticed you're not really doing too many Bennett houses anymore that's what I love I'm from North Carolina mark
You already said that.
You need a pulmonary function test and a visit to a board certified cardiologist or you will be te recipient of a free early death. DO NOT DELAY. BTW: the wood was a piece of cypress stump (knee) from a swamp somewhere.
I receive regular medical treatment, not only do you not know what you are talking about, frankly my health is none of your business
Zz
The least you could have done, toss the wood with nail in the corner-----Bit of a Bonehead eh ?
Arnot517 Um......sure
If you got rid of that crappy intro, you could spend more time on the subject of the videos., and the world will be thankful.
I'd be thankful if you went away
dunlaoghaire rude!!!!!!
