Ryan… it is unfortunate that the big red oak tree had to come down. But trees have do have a limited life span. In the case of the red oak tree some have existed for up to 500 years. Time ages everything and everyone. When trees are located in populated areas and become diseased or are decaying from age, they have to be brought down before they fall on someone. The National Park Service is doing important work in the Smoky Mountains National Park with the prescribed burn program. In this case at Cades Cove they are burning off approximately 1,200 acres to safely reduce fire fuels, restore meadows habitat, and maintain the historic landscape of Cades Cove.

That's cool that they had people available to answer those "burning questions". Here in south Florida where we have a big state park nearby it's not uncommon to see controlled burns as well, and being Florida, once the fires are out the plants tend to all grow back fairly quickly! Anyhow, thanks for another enjoyable video Ryan!

I hate losing big trees too, but I understand with our weather it could cause a lot of damage if it fell during wind or snow storm. Glad they are being proactive for safety. I know a fella in St Louis who was killed when a tree branch fell on him after a storm.

So very sad to see the tree gone. I believe it was a red oak, so we always called it Big Red. I always take a picture of it and the last time we were there, noticed that it wasn’t looking so good. It does look totally different now. Sad day, but thank you for sharing😢

I had some tree work done & one taken down & it was cut into sections, too. The funny thing is, the guy who had to climb up the tree to do the sawing came to work every day, inebriated, or so his boss told me 😅. But he was good doing the job.. And my yard was cleaned up good after the work was finished.

I would love to have an electric bike to ride in Cades Cove. Today was a great day. Having the Cove practically all to yourself must have felt a amazing. Sad no bear to see. I feel like if the smoke smell wasn't there they might have been out enjoying the warm sun. We visited in the past on a burn day. Wasn't aware it was taking place until we got there. But it was interesting to watch. I was surprised to see in your video they were burning downed trees. I thought they always left those to decompose and decay naturally. But as usual, I learned something from your video. You mentioned y'all are getting a dog. I can't wait to see it in an upcoming video. Thanks again Ryan, great day to see the Cove ❤
