18:25 Wait did you just say Tannis is pointless? They made *_Tannis_* pointless? The whole thing about the Vault Hunters is that they came to Pandora _specifically_ to look for the vault because they wanted riches and fame. "She finds out that she has super powers and then gets given even more super powers." "The only way she can be defeated in a fight, is if she defeats herself." This isn't just ripping off Captain Marvel, its also ripping off Legend of Korra.
The avatar was meant to be that powerful. Korra was an actual character that dealt with and overcame self doubt, depression, fear, Trust issues, questions of her self worth, identity, ego, being unsocialized, living up to a legacy, and protecting an entire planet without ever getting a choice in the matter. The show is about how great relationships can make you the best version of yourself. Korra was only able to live up to the hype thanks to her friends who were also great characters that achieved growth and interesting story arcs. @@jacksonconstantine5740 right. Right. I was mistaking Jamie Lee Curtis for the actress playing Lilith, but watching the clips again, yeah, Curtis is definitely playing Tannis
Lilith should've been like 25, Tannis in her thirties maybe a little older (she only becomes a siren rather late) and Tiny Tina should be like, 4, but who knows since there's not enough story posted on the internet to even guess when the plot is supposed to be happening. Also, wtf did I hear that right about them making Tiny Tina into a siren? I wish these investors started suing the filmmakers for criminal incompetence and/or industrial sabotage. No other way to clean that rotten industry up.
I heard even kotaku gave this a bad review. I don't know what is happening, did hell freeze over? I also laugh my ass off how they aged up all these powerful women to just be elderly. They had a woman skilled in building stuff and one with magical powers. That's the modern entertainment wet dream! Seriously what is going on in Hollywood, are they ok? The strangeness of this has somehow pierced through my apathy.
They have "progressed" to the point they dont want to cast young attractive women anymore. Look at what theyre pushing in movies this year. We get Dune with whats her face who looks average, Sophia Boutella in Rebel Moon who is definitely not attractive. Its happening in video games too. Studios intentionally making their characters look worse (thanks sweet baby inc) and developers that do put hot chicks in their games get massive backlash from the progressive crowd. Its nuts.
@@TheArmyofHades I agree. Can't really replace the "main character" because the whole concept of being the main character in a game is that you are whoever you imagine yourself to be. Everything about this movie looks awful. The horrible miscasting, the flat humor, the cheesy costumes, the PG-13 rating, all of it. Also, would you make a Borderlands movie about a decade after it peaked in popularity (especially after the best forgotten Tiny Tina’s Wonderland)? And if that wasn’t dumb enough, why would focus the entire plot around Tiny Tina, one of the most grating video game characters of all time?
It is losing to a movie based on a novel from the author who was basically modern day DAnielle Steele, she was at the tippy top of every romance fan's list of auto buy authors, I think Emily Henry and Allie Hazelwood are right after. But then Booktube decided to cancel her, looks like their cancellatin efforts were futile.
"why would focus the entire plot around Tiny Tina" Because Tiny Tina is hilarious and adorable, even though she does have a mild case of the insanities.

If Lilith doesn't know she is a Siren.. (so before BL1) and Tannis is that old.. (so after BL3 and her being a Siren too) with Tina looking like straight from BL3 and living Roland (so before BL2). With Krieg (so after or during BL2) without any Maya reference... What in the friggin plot was this movie BASED ON?! It's like they made a very poor AI to write the script based on a Wiki characters page.
"Hey ChatGPT, write me a script for a Borderlands movie but make sure nothing makes sense lore-wise and the actors don't fit their roles even remotely. Also make the actors 30 years older than the characters they are playing." As soon as I saw the trailer I knew the movie was going to be hot garbage.

I mean, at least they cast Jack Black rather than Seth Rogan. I can tolerate Jack, but I despise Seth, yet Seth Rogan seems to get cast for ALL "irreverent comedy relief character"s
Another clear cut indication that they actually hate fans, as in targeted hate. There is ABSOLUTELY no reason for the casting to be the way it is in this movie, except for their personal hate of the fans. Borderlands has a niche fan-base anyway, even amongst gamers, so they would've been risking nothing to cast young upcoming actors AND they would be cheaper. As a final and ultimate finger to fans, they failed to cast either of Claptrap's voices which is one the most recognizable and consistently appearing characters from the game.
Funny things is, the folks in charge of the Borderlands IP probably thought this was awesomeness. And considering how bad and cringe the story of Borderlands 3 is, is it any wonder?
I STILL want to know why a pensioner was cast as Lillith, she is late 20's at worst in the games, where the feck are we getting grandma lillith from? And to be fair, Lillith does end up with super powers as a Siren in the game
Miscasting aside, the movie was shot in 2020, it just spent 4 years in production hell. Cate Blanchett was 51 then. If you think a 51 year old is a "pensioner", boy do I have a surprise for you....

Roland and Lilith, did anyone playing Borderlands ever imagined those two being played by a barely manly manlet and someone's aunt in live action form?
Getting a comedian to play Roland just shows a lack of understanding of the character. The reason Tina voicing him in The Assault on Dragonkeep was so funny is because he is someone who goes out of his way to be overly serious and takes his roles seriously to a fault
More like grandmother and nope....i dont get how you f@ck up this casting i mean Roland? Denzel Washington or Idris Elba both 1000 times better options and if anyone in their right mind sits and thinks a little will find a ton of better options. Kevin heart is good for claptrap in this verse.

Something I've been trying to say, but you said much more succinct here! Also the line about thinking they're in the company of giants when they are only imitating them (and poorly at that). Great stuff!
Imagine my surprise, the modern adaptation of Borderlands with a terrible cast, made for a modern audience is utter crap.... Who could have seen this coming? Oh yeah, everyone.
I worked in some of the set design and building. Most of my collegues were fans of the games and we were having a shitload of fun trying to figure out where everything will fit, or what the scene is gonna be like which we were building certain sets for. We even agreed to do a watch party when it finally came out and said we would drink every time we saw something we built. When the first trailer came out two of them relapsed into their drug habits. Might be unrelated, but thats probably the only entertaining thing to come out of this movie.
You'd be surprised how many people are being influenced by the re-imagination of traditional material, even when they didn't watch it. Rest assured the makers know.
They were the only attention-starved enough to show up on casting during covid, probably. They'd have better luck recruiting cosplayers tho. Not that it would help the movie much because this is trash top to bottom, not just the cast.
8 minutes in to the video and I've only just realised Cate Blanchett isn't Kate Beckinsale. Perhaps the studio made the same mistake? No one wants to see Blanchett. Everyone wants to see Beckinsale, but she wouldn't appear in this trash.
Check box cast. Check box story. Check box director. Going for the "see we're hip" check box. I'd rather watch Blind Golf while folding my laundry than watch this mess.
Movie's like this really get to me. My son and I have LOVED the borderland games and we have played them all together since the first one, it could be said they are some of our favorite games (Borderlands 2 The Handsome Jack Collection, I'm talking about you). We were so excited for this movie, and I didn't even know they had made a borderlands movie when my son called me and said "Hey dad, get ready I'm taking you to the movies this coming Friday", I expected him to say we were going to watch the new Deadpool movie but I became really happy when he said it was Borderlands. I purposely avoided reviews and any/all spoilers so as to not ruin the movie. Fast forward to Friday and we were so upset, we almost walked out of the movie a couple times but we finished it, while looking at our watches to see how much was left before we could go home. This is one of the worst movies I have ever watched.
Well, they kinda got the sirens right, but the thing about them is that they already know they have powers & everybody knows how powerful those women are despite there being so few of them. If Lilith discovers she has powers in the movie, that's just lazy writing relying on the "I learned the power was already inside of me" trope. She should already be aware of it but yet needs help hunting for the alien vault.
I told people, claiming that Madame Webb would be the worst movie of 2024 back in February was WAY too premature. Also, Madame Webb and Warcraft, both hated movies, got a surge of viewership when they dropped on Netflix for some reason. (Warcraft dropped on there around five weeks ago, according to Nielsen.)
I don't mind warcraft. I don't know the games that well though to know how bad they messed up. As a movie it was fun enough. But I think something like madame web got a surge of viewers bc people want to see how bad it really is. Can't stop looking at a train wreck kind of thing. The same will probably happen with borderlands once it goes on streaming.
It wasn't GREAT but warcraft wasn't THAT terrible Or maybe our perspective on just how bad a piece of media can get have been consistently refreshed on an ever decreasing bottom line

They have "progressed" to the point they dont want to cast young attractive women anymore. Look at what theyre pushing in movies this year. We get Dune with whats her face who looks average, Sophia Boutella in Rebel Moon who is definitely not attractive. Its happening in video games too.
