Last year I bought 93 K1500 in great condition with 120,000 original for $2,000. It's my wife's daily. And also an Acura MDX with 180,000 for $800 3 years ago. That one my daughter takes to college. Deals are out there, they just aren't at the dealerships. I own all 3 outright for about 5 months worth of car payments.
Wow that's impressive you could get those cars at that low price, where I live if any of those cars came up for sale at those prices they would be sold in a day or two.
@gregparker9977 The key (in my own opinion) is to have cash in hand. My truck I purchased a couple of weeks before Xmas. That is the best time because people are buying gifts so not many buyers. And people need money for Xmas so more sellers. The worst time is during tax return season.

The last time I tried that 25 years ago, everyone one I called was flipping cars from their house 3 at a time. Now there is no newspaper. I find it nearly impossible to find private sellers.
The insane part is he has a right to sell it for what he wants in a free market. We as the buyers have a right to refuse it. And it will most likely sit
That's the way it should be, let these over priced vehicles sit on their lots for a few more years and they will eventually come down in price or have a lot full of cars that are not selling.
I had a Yogo years ago. Paid 5 grand cash brand new. Got hit by a dump truck and the insurance totaled it. Gave me 5 grand for it. It had 35 thousand on it.

Unfortunately, inflation will come down but those high prices are here to stay. When you consider that a new F-150 can go for $80k, the old ones look like bargains. .
Prices haven't risen, your money is just worth less. Every dollar that's made has an amount of debt attached to it that is greater than the worth of the dollar itself. The way fiat currency works is pure insanity. But everyone alive has grown up with it this way so they don't realize how bad it actually is.
@@chriscosby2459I'm not an economist, but this caveman thinks that if you have more people, that means there is a surplus of labor, therefore lower wages, and a shortage of goods, therefore higher prices. Why would you want to increase the number of people? Is a country having low birth rates? It's because there's too much labor and not enough goods, so the herd has to be thinned so that things go back in order.
@LuwiigiMaster A larger labor pool depresses wages, which means people have less discretionary income. We have states that have allowed illegals in unrestricted, and at the same time increased the minimum wage. This is against the laws of economics.
@chriscosby2459 that's what I'm saying. Increasing the number of people, either by letting in migrants, having babies, or cloning everyone, is not a good solution to the economic problem. Countries like Japan shouldn't worry about declining birthrates, it's all caused by the need to produce income, which becomes harder with an oversaturatrd labor pool. In due time the problem will solve itself, or at least it should.

What I hate about the used car market. Dealerships will price the car up to 50% more than what's actually worth. If a car is 4 years old, they will price is at nearly the price of a new car. Most cars over 100,000 miles (especially GM cars) are trash, but these dealers expect you to pay $10,000 to $30,000 for these old cars will all sorts of maintenance issues---as is (no warranty).
This made me buy my first brand new ever. 5 year 60k mile bumper to bumper, and 10 year 100k mile power train. Plus they claim if I get all the scheduled maintenance done at their dealership they will warranty it for as long as I own it. I hate paying a note but I just couldn't gamble with 15k+ on used. It was a safer bet to just suck it up and sign the paperwork.
I guess this means you will not be moving to a new home away from the dealership anytime soon for the sake of a truck. Lifetime truck does have its advantages but comes with restrictions in life. Hopefully, the dealership does not file bankruptcy as what would then happen to your lifetime truck warranty?
@@cockyhemi same thing at the grocery store. People actually think that milk and eggs are going to go back to the price they were five years ago….. Tolls can no longer be paid with coins because with the high cost of tolls it takes debit cards or many greenbacks. Coins are just about worthless now.
It's not a joke. No one wants new vehicles. They are complete crap and cost as much as a small house a few years ago! New vehicles are very hard to repair and parts are not easy to get. Old vehicles are super easy to fix with tons of cheap parts! Even parts from the scrap yard.

The ONLY way to bring down prices as a consumer is STOP buying at ridiculous prices. Demand goes down prices go down. The longer it sits the dealer loses, floor plan bankers will force sales eventually.
@ShaunSavage-kl9pd that's not poor, that's smart. Those trucks are legendary. The EPA and cafe standards stood on their necks so we won't see them again and also the automakers aren't smart enough to make cleanly plumbed, simple and interchangeable trucks anymore. You can install a Tesla style carplay head unit and backup camera for less than $200 and have FLIR for less than 600.
I’ve said for several years, these people, dealers and citizens have lost their minds on these prices they are asking. Keep my vehicles up mechanically. I think the big car auctions have played a large role in the outrageous prices as well.
Yep, hence my comment at the end. The truck will take a crazy amount of work to be solid again. I love those pickups but I wouldn’t give a penny over $2k for that thing.
@@revnation_auto I honestly would take a truckload of those white trucks in the same condition for $4k each. That truck is in REALLY good shape under the dirt and the minor spot of rust on the fender.
That rusty beat up lightning is a parts truck unless you have deep pockets or do your own restoration. I'd say $4,000 is a max offer. Mainly if the powertrain still works.
Still too much, not that rusty and could be an everyday driver with a little interior cleaning but worth $2,500 to $3,500 if the miles are under 150K, less if more than that.
Dealers won't deal man. I offer reasonable offers all the time for cars I want and they always say no. They'd rather not sell the car than sell it for what I know they paid for it. I see it all the time.
The 351W in that Lightning has so much more potential than 240hp. I had a custom built 351W retrofitted in a fox body mustang back in the day, and I had to weld subframe connectors under it to keep the engine from tearing the ass end off the car. The motor was insane, and a total blast to drive. But $35K? I'll pass. I actually think reality shows like American Pickers are partly to blame, along with cash for clunkers, and covid. Reality picker shows have people thinking every rusted POS laying on their property is an undiscovered gold mine. It's not real folks. It's a show. I've seen people asking $1500 on FB marketplace for run of the mill junk cars. (Just needs a new motor, transmission, body, etc.) I saw a rusted OLD 4 wheeler frame, tires rotted into the dirt, no plastic, no seat, no tank, just a rusted frame, and part of an engine, $400.
Back in 2015 I saw a one-man car lot asking $1300 for a turquoise 94 Saturn SC2 stickshift with 181K on it. It was ready for the junkyard -- trust me. I did not buy. $1500 on FB marketplace for junkers, you say? I believe you 100%.
That’s why they are called “Stealerships”. Obviously, if the white truck has been sitting there for several years, their plan of over pricing is not working for them. I’m sure the black truck will be a ‘back row’ resident soon. I always divide insane prices by 4. First, the seller doubles the real price in his head and once comfortable with it he doubles again. So, the black truck is actually worth about $7500 and the white one is worth about $2,000.
Few years ago my FIL bought a brand new king ranch F350 for $85,000. Yeah, you read that right. And, it's had electric problems since day one. Thing is barely 5 years old, hardly pulls anything, and has been in the shop over a half dozen times rhat i'm aware of. My small home on 3 acres of land was $70k 7 years ago, and we had the opportunity to buy the neighbors 10 acres behind us for another $50k a few years back. Your read that right. A house & 3 acres, and another 10 acres seperately costing LESS THAN A FORD!! I'll be keeping my 09 Ranger & 03 Tacoma until I die at this rate. A ridiculous upside world we live in these days.

People asking new car money for all these used nothing special "old school" malaise era cars and trucks just because there's this growing mentality that older no matter what it is, is automatically better is moronic and anyone buying this Lightning for more than $20k deserves to be parted with their money. Just being older and a little rare doesn't automatically make it collectible or worth much, especially one in daily driven 4 out of 10 condition with a work box in the bed. Now excuse me, I have a 1991 Granada that needs spray painted so I can get $25k for. Don't make em like they used to, you know.
I will never buy a car newer than 2011. Car MFGs can make good cars, but they won't. I'm not afraid of electronics, they're just poorly made. I have a handful of 90s cars. Their value transcends money. I wouldn't even put a number on them. What we SHOULD be doing is convincing chevy and Ford to make barebones cars again.
@@Callsign_Sturm I know how this will sound but hear me out. Go rent a 24/25 hyundai, drive it for a week, then go look at the prices and warranty they offer.
@jimdandy8119 uses a CVT to get those mpg ratings.. A few early 2000s years, Ford made a non interference 4 speed focus that got 30mpg... chain driven, no belt. With limited warranties, often you have to follow specific guidelines for warranties to hold. Outside of that, 5-10 year is pretty okay but consider you're going to be paying almost 30 grand in the first 3-4 years... 1500-7600USD for a hotrodded old economy car with modded in thermal vision and tesla style carplay sounds pretty nice. New cars are finally starting to get less ugly but IMO the material and electronics are still dodgy. Also, I don't pay people to work on my cars, and I often rebuild rather than replace so I have a HUGE advantage there. Lol Also, dealership APRs are insanity. Lower twenties isn't bad for one if you can actually get one at those prices.
@Callsign_Sturm Yea I used to do all my own work too. I'm kind of tired of it to be honest. The warranty is good on them. Eventually old vehicle just wear out and my philosophy has always been if it cost more than I paid for it for me to fix it, it goes to the junkyard. Also you're wrong on the price. A lot of their models are under $35k. Catch a sale, get a discount of some sort, and have a trade in and you end up getting a decent deal on a car that will last you a decade or 250k miles without any real trouble. I have an uncle that has one with close to 350k on it and he drives it 180 miles daily. Man this is the first brand new vehicle I've ever bought. I don't care what anyone says, sinking $8k into a 25 year old vehicle that isn't worth half that with a chance of something else catastrophic going wrong within a short period of time isn't worth it. The price used vehicles are going for currently aren't worth the gamble of what problems they might have. 10 years ago $4k might get you something humble but reliable and in decent shape. Now that gets you the junkyard mechanics special and the one that you would have got for that is 3x the price or better. Imo, the car is well made, the warranty is solid enough, and the price is fair. Again, just my opinion.
My father in law is a mechanic at a shop where rich people bring their project cars, old Rolls Royces, Lotuses, trucks, anything. He says they are getting tons of stuff left under a tree for years and customers saying "fix this." Mainly because new cars suck so much no one wants them.
What part of the country are you in, the condition of the white truck mainly the rust would be considered great for a truck twenty years old or more in my part of the country, damn near rust free. Still not worth more than 3K depending on mileage.
I drive a 2000 Silverado 2500 4×4, 220,000 miles, flatbed, rust delete rockers, professional gas hog. I have approximately $1,000 in the truck, and every time I watch a video like this........I feel like I'm on the right track. If the thing burned to the frame tonight, it wouldn't owe me a penny. Oh, did I mention........It's paid for.😊
Absolutely right! the prices are ridiculous, I'm a x- mechanic , I see these high mileage vehicles with crazy prices, they are waiting to have problems right after you buy them!
My son is looking for a first car. We looked at a 2004 Corolla 150K miles in okay condition. The buy-here-pay-here lot wanted $6,900. Would not budge one cent. LOL crazy
That black truck has had some body work done. The front fender is a different color. A good body shop wouldn't make that mistake. I would avoid it. The white one i would offer them something like $2000 and see of they take it. Otherwise I am walking. I never could stand car lots. The people who run them are usually crooks.
These lights make their money from people who have bad credit and need a car they are finance companies they make weekly payments to them it's definitely a scam for poor people
I know these trucks well and have owned many of them and this dealership is probably run by someone who is greedy and doesn't need the money. The black truck is maybe a 8k truck or 10k and the white one should be around 2k since it's rough. 93 is the first year for these. And eed was the most common color and white the rarest IIRC.
300,000 miles on it, and it gets 21mpg Once you go motorcycle, you never want to pay to drive all this steal, carpet, and glass around ever again. Let alone work on it from below and get oil and dirt falling into your eyes, trying to get a wrench in anywhere edgewise, or have to change... 4 of anything. I must say, in 20 years since switching to motorcycles, I have never had to vacuum my vehicles out... once.
15k for the first one at best mabe even as low as 10k Second one 2500 or walk away. Who is going to buy a 20 plus year old anything for 8k that’s full of lot rot rust all over that’s not including how bad the frame is the lack of fluids that have natural evaporated. The engine and wiring will have to be overhauled not even mentioning that engine the seals the internals are probably rotted as well. These dealers are complete idiots. This is called false pride. Anyone sitting on ANYTHING and letting it rot for literal years instead of just lowballing it has too much fake pride.
Couldn’t have said it better myself mate. Massive franchise dealerships are choosing to close down before giving people deals. They got drunk on free Monopoly money and won’t admit the party has been over for years now.
I looked at a 2010 crown Vic,2010, 210k miles on a dealer lot. The paint was flaking to the steel in 14 inch chunks. Rust on the rockers and an interior filled with dust. Steel rims. Three hub caps. I’m thinking soap and water plus $800 bucks equals good transport to work. They wanted $3,500. I laughed, scoffed and said thanks for wasting my time. They were stone cold serious and told me it was well positioned in market. Bub bye Ford. Bub bye GM. Hello Honda.
The market up north is even worst... They are charging almost the same price as a new one and they can do so because the dealers around here refuse to negotiate and give discounts unless it's a manufacturer rebate.
@@revnation_autoneeds all new brakes lines calipers rotors all new hoses not even going to mention how the transmission and rear end are. $8,000 for the rusty lightning is a little high, but the car lot is a retail outlet. You are a wholesale buyer. If the frame is solid, and the title is clear, it is a reasonable asking price. It will sell, but not to a wholesaler.
Over the rail bed liner and a tool box are red flags alone on a lightning. Wonder how miles were on that one for 35k. I had a 95 lightning i picked up in 2000 for 14k dollars with 30 k miles and only one owner
In 2022 I purchased a 2018 Mustang GT for $50 k. Two weeks ago I rolled it past the 45,000 kilometer mark. The car is still relatively new. Haven't had any issues with performance. 460hp all aluminum Coyote 5 litre, 6 speed manual transmission. It's likely the last car I'll ever own.
One year ago I purchased a 1996 Eddie Bauer edition F150 for $3,900. It has been years since I had seen one in such good condition. It must have been garaged all it's life. When trolling the internet for a used one, the prices are insane. I have seen piles of junk listed for prices as high or higher than they sold for new. I believe inflation, the absurd list prices of new trucks and a certain nostalgic appeal for the older pick-ups is driving these figures. Mine has 145k on it, a ting of rust over the rear wheel wells, but it starts every time and so far all it has needed is an oil change.
I have four cars that I own free and clear. All of them have over 100,000 miles on them and two are close to 200,000 while one is well over 200,000. I keep thinking I would like to replace one or two of them but at today's prices, no way. I just keep repairing them and they honestly don't need much in repairs. I have had to replace three coils, but I can buy four coils with for iridium spark plugs for easily 50 bucks on Amazon. And it takes 5 minutes to put one on. I confess that it helps to have a large shop to do the work in. That's something I only acquired a few years ago and it's definitely a game changer. By the way, three of my vehicles are scions and one is a Chevy Z71 which is by far the most unreliable of the batch. But at least the drivetrain is solid so far.
It's tuff when you can't go online and look up a price.. the moldy one tops 1500. The other one I see them here in the south all the time for 5000- 8000 depends on condition of course.
$35,000 for a 30 plus year old truck is example of unrealistic expectation unless it has classic value. You didn’t give the mileage on it. The buyer pool for that truck would be limited as I doubt that banks would loan on it and insurance companies wouldn’t cover it for physical damage that lenders would require. You might could buy an appraised value policy from a specialty insurance company at $35,000 if you could find an objective $35,000 appraisal and then most insurance companies offering that form would restrict the annual mileage and purpose of use. I predict that truck sits unsold at that price.
I mean yes that's insane but also the alternator is probably mounted square on top of the engine and the starter changes in two bolts LOL That's why people love these things.
No wonder the truck is stuck under that tree. I'd shop Marketplace instead. I found a 1989 Chevy for $ 1,100 CDN here in Edmonton. Mind you, it wasn't running and took a lot of work to make roadworthy.
I think one of the main problems is the price of new vehicles. A friend of mine bought a brand new pickup truck a few years ago. The price tag was $84,000.00.
The dealerships that have these crazy prices are not in the car business. They are usually set up to launder money.

That is what I do too. If you can do most of the maintenance it is sure a cheaper way to go.

@LarsonFamilyFarm-LLC China taillights maybe. If it's got sensors on the mirrors or it's a Chrysler the price is astronomical.

The insane part is he has a right to sell it for what he wants in a free market.
We as the buyers have a right to refuse it.
And it will most likely sit
Exactly
What's insane about that?
That's the way it should be, let these over priced vehicles sit on their lots for a few more years and they will eventually come down in price or have a lot full of cars that are not selling.

Unfortunately, inflation will come down but those high prices are here to stay. When you consider that a new F-150 can go for $80k, the old ones look like bargains. .
Inflation isn’t the rise in prices, it’s the rise in the supply of money i.e. money printing

I hope so -- cheap labor is not helping the situation.

That rusty beat up lightning is a parts truck unless you have deep pockets or do your own restoration. I'd say $4,000 is a max offer. Mainly if the powertrain still works.
Still too much, not that rusty and could be an everyday driver with a little interior cleaning but worth $2,500 to $3,500 if the miles are under 150K, less if more than that.
At the end of the day it's nothing more than an f150.
Dealers won't deal man. I offer reasonable offers all the time for cars I want and they always say no. They'd rather not sell the car than sell it for what I know they paid for it. I see it all the time.
They absolutely will not. I found a 15 year old Ford car with 58k miles paid 6500 cash and gonna drive it until car prices are reasonable again
Yep, it’s stupid and I tell them all the time, an OK price today will be a pipe dream a year from now. They need to take whatever they can get.
Where I live, they are selling them like hot cakes at high prices. People have stopped buying new vehicles.

Also, dealership APRs are insanity.

Based on the interior on that damaged one, I think that’s a 94-95 lightning
I mean yes that's insane but also the alternator is probably mounted square on top of the engine and the starter changes in two bolts LOL
That's why people love these things.
They're asking Buick Gran national price for it. Nobody wants old f150s.
People also want older cars more than ever now because new cars are unfixable garbage.
Look at that,
.. a truck that doesn't have a 6.5ft tall hood 🤔
It's not just dealerships or mom 'n pop lots, private party prices are insane, as well.
You are creating a valuable video. You are correct that many used car prices are very high. I wonder what the same truck sells for in dealer auctions?
The front clip doesn’t match the rest of the truck.
May have had damage repaired, or the typical factory paint fading/peeling issues.
