I want to get a Harley Benton TE20 but how good is it anyway. It has awesome tone for lead distortion and clean and thanks for the video it sounds like a telecaster I think.
I'm gonna say it right here buddy, Harley Benton and other companies should give you their products to review if they want to sell stuff to people that appreciate great playing and great tone! You killed it with this one! Keep doing what you're doing, your channel will grow really quickly! And yes, Harley Benton guitars... they're great man, nothing bad to say about them. My favorite strat that I have ever played was a black Harley Benton ST-62 with a tortoiseshell pickguard but I foolishly sold it. still regret it to this day.. oh and did I mention, I love your playing dude! cheers!

Thank you Johan. Your playing is amazing but that's not the only reason that I'm writing this. In comparison to others you are a realist. You don't expect the sound and finish of a custom shop guitar from one at this price. You take it and play it for what it is and give an honest, un-biased opinion as you see and feel it. I bought one of these used, today, for 40€ with the intention of modding it (which I still may do) but I think I might just play it for a while until I've really had time to make final decisions. I own quite a few guitars, most of them are budget models but that's the magic. If you mod a genuine Fender or Gibson you will throw away a lot of money because everyone seems to want 'stock, factory specification' All of my Strat style guitars now have 'the blender mod' so all 3 pickups are controllable ,mixable and useable. If I had an original US Strat I would never risk doing that. It would be interesting to hear the difference between the stock pickups and those Donahue pickups on that guitar.

@@JohanJoosLaur Thanks for the reply. Guitar is still great but in the last few weeks things have changed, like the pickups! Picked up a set of Roswell Alnicos for 20€ used and sold my original ceramics for 10€. Oak Grigsby style switch is on it's way and I already have 2 new pots and a cap. All in all about 70€ all in plus of course a bit of TLC. I think people buy these used to avoid teething troubles, defects and the hassle of sending them back to Thomann( their service department are actually very good) All in all I'm still a happy lad . What about you?
I own this guitar too and it's amazing for me! Modded it with locking tuners and a brass saddle bridge. Also put 12th strings on it for Jazz playing and this baby works very well with this upgrades! Nice guitar!

Hi Johan! Yes, the PUs out of the factory are working great with the 12s GHS Boomers. Especally the neck Pickup. No need to change it. A little height adjustment and a good setting on my amp makes a good jazz tone and satisfies me so much while playing. Super thing for the money! Cheers and greetings from cologne!
8:14 What a solo and those bends! You're an amazing guitarist. I can't believe that this guitar can sound that good. I just ordered both, TE-20 and TE-52, as I could not deside which one I want more. Never owned a tele before, as I mainly play metal.

Nice review. I bought one in lockdown and did some amateur modifications, including a lovely Fletcher Pickups neck pickup. Eventually I had to get a luthier to organise the action. Now it is a lovely guitar.

@@JohanJoosLaur je possède moi-même une HB une TE90 et une strat US et comme tu le dis dans ta vidéo, ce qui compte c est le confort sur le manche et la gratte, le reste c est "secondaire". Le manche est ultra confortable et agréable en main et pour moi ben ça sonne bien car je suis à l.aise dessus et que mon jeu s en ressent 😉 Les.micros manquent un peu de chaleur mais changer les micros sur une guitare à 170€ je suis pas sûr que ça vaille le coup

i own the blue one. but the red one looks a little bit more attractive. because i have the HB Strat Apple Candy Red i choosed the blue tele. the neck is not covered so much with laquer and feels smooth like satin. the neck and the frets have a high quality and you got that typical tele that was a legend already in the sixties. in a picture i saw Keit Richards with the same stuff and colour. HB reproduce the standard teles in colours and style of some famous artist like Jimmy Page. The white one is so similiar to Jimmy Pages Mirror Tele. Jimmy plays it as a toploader and it has an interesting fact.

Ca me touche beaucoup :) C'est un peu le sens que j'essaie de donner à mes vidéos, même si je suis loin d'avoir le niveau de millions de guitaristes bien plus doués que moi sur le net aha ! Mais c'est quelque chose qui me tient à coeur car on n'a pas tous la possibilité (voire l'envie) de mettre beaucoup d'argent dans un instrument. Je sais que ça peut être décourageant parfois de lire tels ou tels reproches ou commentaires sur le matos "bas/moyen de gamme", ou simplement de voir ses guitar-héros jouer sur du matos que l'on ne pourra jamais se permettre...et on a souvent tendance à pointer du doigt le matos (moi le premier) quand on est dans une impasse...mais au final tout ce qui compte c'est de prendre du plaisir : et ça, ça n'a pas de prix ! Chacun fait avec ses moyens, selon ses envies, que ce soit pour s'offrir une gratte à 4 chiffres ou une petite entrée de gamme...y'a de quoi faire ! :)

Je suis sincère et même si je suis une guitariste de mon salon désormais (après des années à avoir cumulé mon boulot et toutes sortes de scènes pour former un duo avec une amie intermittente du spectacle), je pense vraiment que tu as du talent mais surtout tu es singulier et tu n’as RIEN à envier aux millions de guitaristes sur TH-cam. Certes, certains sont également uniques dans leur style et feraient sonner un étendoir à linge ;-) Aucun à ma connaissance dans ceux que je suis, n’a fait ce choix du matos abordable. Ils ont tous des guitares et amplis et studios de folie (et tant mieux pour eux et c’est tout à fait compréhensible). Moi aussi je convoite certaines guitares (je n’ai pas à me plaindre) et j’aime les belles guitares mais bonnes ne rime pas toujours avec prix et tu en fais la démonstration. Le toucher, l’état d’esprit, la créativité subliment la plus cheap des guitares. J’ai croisé dans ma vie des guitaristes qui faisaient parler des guitares pourries (abîmées) comme personne ! Je regarde aussi des vidéos sur les guitares que j’aime, mais parfois ce déballage de matos hors de prix m’agace car il peut détourner de l’essentiel. Toi, de mon modeste point de vue, tu as l’essentiel et j’espère que tu auras la (les) guitare (s) de tes rêves, j’espère surtout qu’une marque va te l’offrir (Fender devrait ! ). Je suis convaincue que ta chaîne va exploser parce qu’elle est unique. Désolée pour toutes ces digressions mais je voulais témoigner de l’utilité de ta chaîne pour tous les mômes et adultes qui n’auront peut-être jamais accès à du matos haut de gamme : grâce à toi, ils voient qu’avec du travail on peut faire sonner grave grave une squier (d’ailleurs je préfère mes squier à ma Fender !). Great playing. I already have this one. Honestly mine is so good I thought I had simply got somehow lucky. I am still really a beginner and it is the only e-guitar I own. But still I dont put it down. Been playing 5 hours a day every day on it...

@@MrSouzy Ahh I see ! Yeah I really wanted the red one as well so I waited a bit more and got lucky aha. They're actually back in stock very soon apparently :) Oh the HX Stomp is an amp modeler/effects unit from Line 6 ? It's the white box sitting on my table next to the cup of coffee :) If you want to know everything about it you should check John Cordy's channel, he actually sent it to me so I can try it and stuff which was so so kind of him. He's a killer player, his channel is great and he's the king of these modelers devices ;)
great playing better than some great guitar hero. i have the blue one. the instrument looks like a original fender and it sounds expensive. the bridge looks cheap but the original doesn´t look better. leo fender must be depressive after this performance. i have also the les paul junior remake with the dogear and this instrument sounds amazing and looks much more expensive.

Hi Johan! Thank you for this helpful video. I bought this guitar yesterday. Also in that stunning Red. I have much more expensive guitars and I‘m really happy with the Harley Benton. It feels and sound great. But... you are so right with this neck pickup. It sounds not clear enough. I‘m thinking bout changing it. I have a neck pickup from a Fender Players Series Telecaster. Hey Marco !! So so sorry I missed your comment ! I'm so glad you feel the same way about the guitar aha ! And yeah definitely the neck pickup is a bit weird right ? Sounds very dark indeed. Did you try your Fender neck pickup yet ? If not, you definitely should ! The upgrade makes it even 10x better to play honestly :) Cheers from France !
I’ve replaced both Pickups with Fender Player Series Pickups. The guitar sounds a lot better now. Not so dull on the neck anymore. And not so aggressive on the Bridge anymore. An even greater problem was the sensitivity of the stock Pickups. They were acting like little microphones. You could talk in the pickups and then heard that in the amp. Because of Corona I have no gigs these days but I think the guitar is now ready for the stage. I love it! Best regards Marco

Haha no not French, but a red head... 🤔... Neck is lovely, quite slim, satin finish, needed a bit of a fettle, but now fantastic plays great. Will be buying another HB. All the best from North Nottinghamshire UK

Je n'ai le Stomp que depuis quelques semaines et sincèrement j'ai pas encore passé de temps à vraiment travailler des sons :) Par contre j'ai tous les presets de John Cordy dessus, et franchement comme point de départ pour bidouiller des sons rapidos : c'est top !
@@AlainChatignon John les vend pour 5€, il te donne ensuite accès à un dossier où il y'a des dizaines et des dizaines (voire centaines) de presets, et surtout tu payes une fois et tu as accès à ce dossier "à vie", donc étant donné qu'il alimente le dossier constamment il y'a toujours des updates quoi :) Si jamais ça t'intéresse tu peux aller sur sa chaîne TH-cam (John Nathan Cordy) et tu trouveras tout ça dans les descriptions de ses vidéos !

Ca me touche beaucoup :) C'est un peu le sens que j'essaie de donner à mes vidéos, même si je suis loin d'avoir le niveau de millions de guitaristes bien plus doués que moi sur le net aha ! Mais c'est quelque chose qui me tient à coeur car on n'a pas tous la possibilité (voire l'envie) de mettre beaucoup d'argent dans un instrument. Je sais que ça peut être décourageant parfois de lire tels ou tels reproches ou commentaires sur le matos "bas/moyen de gamme", ou simplement de voir ses guitar-héros jouer sur du matos que l'on ne pourra jamais se permettre...et on a souvent tendance à pointer du doigt le matos (moi le premier) quand on est dans une impasse...mais au final tout ce qui compte c'est de prendre du plaisir : et ça, ça n'a pas de prix ! Chacun fait avec ses moyens, selon ses envies, que ce soit pour s'offrir une gratte à 4 chiffres ou une petite entrée de gamme...y'a de quoi faire ! :)

Je suis sincère et même si je suis une guitariste de mon salon désormais (après des années à avoir cumulé mon boulot et toutes sortes de scènes pour former un duo avec une amie intermittente du spectacle), je pense vraiment que tu as du talent mais surtout tu es singulier et tu n’as RIEN à envier aux millions de guitaristes sur TH-cam. Certes, certains sont également uniques dans leur style et feraient sonner un étendoir à linge ;-) Aucun à ma connaissance dans ceux que je suis, n’a fait ce choix du matos abordable. Ils ont tous des guitares et amplis et studios de folie (et tant mieux pour eux et c’est tout à fait compréhensible). Moi aussi je convoite certaines guitares (je n’ai pas à me plaindre) et j’aime les belles guitares mais bonnes ne rime pas toujours avec prix et tu en fais la démonstration. Le toucher, l’état d’esprit, la créativité subliment la plus cheap des guitares. J’ai croisé dans ma vie des guitaristes qui faisaient parler des guitares pourries (abîmées) comme personne ! Je regarde aussi des vidéos sur les guitares que j’aime, mais parfois ce déballage de matos hors de prix m’agace car il peut détourner de l’essentiel. Toi, de mon modeste point de vue, tu as l’essentiel et j’espère que tu auras la (les) guitare (s) de tes rêves, j’espère surtout qu’une marque va te l’offrir (Fender devrait ! ). Je suis convaincue que ta chaîne va exploser parce qu’elle est unique. Désolée pour toutes ces digressions mais je voulais témoigner de l’utilité de ta chaîne pour tous les mômes et adultes qui n’auront peut-être jamais accès à du matos haut de gamme : grâce à toi, ils voient qu’avec du travail on peut faire sonner grave grave une squier (d’ailleurs je préfère mes squier à ma Fender !). @@MrSouzy Ahh I see ! Yeah I really wanted the red one as well so I waited a bit more and got lucky aha. They're actually back in stock very soon apparently :) Oh the HX Stomp is an amp modeler/effects unit from Line 6 ? It's the white box sitting on my table next to the cup of coffee :) If you want to know everything about it you should check John Cordy's channel, he actually sent it to me so I can try it and stuff which was so so kind of him. He's a killer player, his channel is great and he's the king of these modelers devices ;)
great playing better than some great guitar hero. i have the blue one. the instrument looks like a original fender and it sounds expensive. the bridge looks cheap but the original doesn´t look better. leo fender must be depressive after this performance. i have also the les paul junior remake with the dogear and this instrument sounds amazing and looks much more expensive.

Thank you for this helpful video. I bought this guitar yesterday. Also in that stunning Red. I have much more expensive guitars and I‘m really happy with the Harley Benton. It feels and sound great. But... you are so right with this neck pickup. It sounds not clear enough. I‘m thinking bout changing it. I have a neck pickup from a Fender Players Series Telecaster. Maybe I should try it. What do you think? Is it getting better?

Hey Marco !! So so sorry I missed your comment ! I'm so glad you feel the same way about the guitar aha ! And yeah definitely the neck pickup is a bit weird right ? Sounds very dark indeed. Did you try your Fender neck pickup yet ? If not, you definitely should ! The upgrade makes it even 10x better to play honestly :) Cheers from France !

I’ve replaced both Pickups with Fender Player Series Pickups. The guitar sounds a lot better now. Not so dull on the neck anymore. And not so aggressive on the Bridge anymore. An even greater problem was the sensitivity of the stock Pickups. They were acting like little microphones. You could talk in the pickups and then heard that in the amp. Because of Corona I have no gigs these days but I think the guitar is now ready for the stage. I love it!

Stock pickups are all fine considering the price of course, but they're really really cheap...better pickups definitely makes it a lot more enjoyable to play ! Haha no not French, but a red head... 🤔... Neck is lovely, quite slim, satin finish, needed a bit of a fettle, but now fantastic plays great. Will be buying another HB.

Je n'ai le Stomp que depuis quelques semaines et sincèrement j'ai pas encore passé de temps à vraiment travailler des sons :) Par contre j'ai tous les presets de John Cordy dessus, et franchement comme point de départ pour bidouiller des sons rapidos : c'est top !

@@AlainChatignon John les vend pour 5€, il te donne ensuite accès à un dossier où il y'a des dizaines et des dizaines (voire centaines) de presets, et surtout tu payes une fois et tu as accès à ce dossier "à vie", donc étant donné qu'il alimente le dossier constamment il y'a toujours des updates quoi :) Si jamais ça t'intéresse tu peux aller sur sa chaîne TH-cam (John Nathan Cordy) et tu trouveras tout ça dans les descriptions de ses vidéos !

Hi Leszek ! Well in the video I use it with the HX Stomp in the two instrumental clips, and I'm plugging it into my cheap little battery powered amp later in the video to do some clean stuff :)

@@LivioRoch Exactement, pour 88€ c'est quand même dingue de voir une gratte qui non seulement est super belle (si on aime le style quoi), super bien finie, un manche très confort et qui reste malgré tout homogène même si évidemment l'accastillage/électronique/micros c'est du très bas de gamme.
