You won't believe how many times I have to refuse making a video and not taking a payment because the products are just not good enough to warrant being shown to you. In this case I HAD to make a video that should serve as a warning.

I saw a drum video, where the creator advised using heavier drumsticks for practice than you would for a show. He said it was like swinging an extra bat for warmup.
I talked to my personal instructor about it and he said "no, as a musician, you want to practice on the exact same setup you play on, or as close to you can get it", because you want your muscle memory to be locked into what you're going to be playing on stage.
I would assume the same holds true to guitar. Like, if you're going to be primarily playing an electric guitar, and sometimes an acoustic, then practice on those types of guitars, with the action where you will normally have it, using the same gauge strings, etc...
These kinds of products can possibly do more damage to learning, than good.
Remember, practice makes permanent. Only perfect practice makes perfect.

I don’t know why you say you would even want one for 150 bucks. For that money you can get a real, playable guitar and start really learning. For this, its an expensive toy and for a guitar learning product it is only going to get you into bad habits and limit what you can learn, whereas with a real 150 dollar guitar you can really play anything, with no limitations (other than your own learning ability), and there are better toys for that money.

Then he would pull three random things out of a filing cabinet and use them from a practise routine. I used Anki for this and a note taking app like Obsidian, Evernote, Notion, etc.

I've watched 6stringtv's video and now I've watched yours too.
I have ideas how to fix it:
Change the target audience to the guitar-synth people - ditch the educational stuff.
Replace the mute sensor with a tactile button.
Move all buttons and knobs on the front like on most electric guitars.
Map them to their expected midi CCs.
Add the 5 pin midi and use standard AA batteries and USB for power.
Make it a class compliant device - NO app, NO phone, NO Bluetooth!
Both 5 pin midi and USB-C must send midi.
Remove the amplifier, speaker, internal sound electronics, lights and non-removable battery.
This should save on cost. Remember it must be only a midi/usb controller!
Price it at 150 and be competitive with other controllers.
Heavy marketing as a synth controller, like: "You can only play guitar, but you want to make other sounds - use this midi controller to play these amazing synths with your guitar skills! Etc."
Ensure it's a good controller for rockband and guitarhero games and market to these people too.

By the time I decided to get a real guitar, I'd have learned nothing and would have felt WORSE because of all that time wasted. By the way, I am disabled and self taught on guitar and uke. I have a brain injury, muscle weakness, dexterity limitations, severe chronic pain, hypersensitivity, tremors, etc.
This would be a frustrating product for people like me. It doesn’t work and the poor user experience will just frustrate most disabled people even more.
In my experience, there are better ways to make guitar and any instrument more accessible and less painful. For pain reduction, I would recommend using extra light electric or acoustic strings, or even using a nylon string guitar. There will be pain until calluses develop and even beyond that. There’s no way around that, but there are strings that will be much better than these weird silicone strings with no movement in the fretboard. Finding the right guitar neck profile is a big deal so the thumb and hand are well supported and cradled in the palm where needed. Gotta make sure the action is set nice and low. Usually it’s best to get a short scale guitar below 25” that’s going to play effortlessly vs. buying one that’s 25.5” with much longer, tighter feeling strings (no matter the gauge) that often require strength and a bit of a struggle for someone with hand issues. There are accessories and products out there that can be used in ways that they weren’t intended to be used by the brands that can be helpful. The Roadie 3 is an amazing way to help me tune accurately and quickly because it’s difficult to turn tuning pegs - plus it also helped with ear training, getting comfortable with alternate tunings, and using the built in metronome. I found a capo that’s easy for me to use. I have a lap pad to keep the guitar at the right angle since I usually need to play while sitting in bed and a strap often is bothersome with neck pain. Sometimes you can get wrist supports for compression that helps with pain and strength. I can go on and on.
I used apps and websites to help me learn to play using a curriculum (which I either got free trials, beta tested, or got deep discounts before Christmas), while some are entirely free. Some apps like Yousician and Rockband use a gamification type system, others use more traditional methods like Fender Play and Justin Guitar. Lately, the Gibson app has been killing it. The Ultimate Guitar app is amazing with tabs and a great community. I’ve found using a variety of all methods is extremely beneficial so you gain the skills to be able to read tabs and play without depending on these apps (especially gamification types). TH-cam is great for looking up specific info, but beware of using quality sources and know that you can’t rely on TH-cam to make progress because there’s no guided curriculum on most channels. Point is, even with a brain injury, I learned.
I somehow overcame my limitations and learned in a manner that makes me feel confident. I’ve come much farther in 3.5 years than I ever thought would be possible. Learning an instrument is a lifelong commitment. You aren’t going to pick it up and learn quickly even if you don’t have any disabilities- unless you’re a musical prodigy, and most of us are not. Ask any pro musician about their early experiences on guitar, and they’ll tell you about the hours they spent holed up in their room practicing (and this was usually before apps and websites). Some had lessons, others were entirely self taught. But it took time, commitment, and suffering to make it to such a high level. This Aero Guitar wants you to think you can pick up their product and play overnight without any suffering. That’s not how it works. If you’re disabled, there are much less expensive and more productive ways of making guitar and any other instrument more accessible. It takes some trial and error, patience, and yes it’s going to cause some pain and discomfort - but if you love it enough, you’ll be willing to endure that all and may even forget about all those things as you get better on the instrument. Aeroband is trying to sell you some snake oil.
And btw, kids can learn on full sized guitars depending on their age. They can also use 3/4 guitars or use a guitar brand like Loog that sells three and six string guitars that come with a free lesson app, flash cards, and lol kinds of other stuff for less than half the price of this Aero Guitar. I’ve even heard of adults buying Loog guitars for themselves. They’re not toys. They play and work like real guitars because they’re real! They even teamed up with Fender recently to make a Fender branded Loog guitar.
There are options out there, people. Real options. You can figure it out using real guitars and accessories without buying crappy, WAY overpriced toys that don’t even work as advertised and provide a very poor user experience and interface at that.
Rant over, lol. 😂😂😂 Thanks for your honesty and doing the right thing to inform people at your own expense!

The hedgehogs and the request to support your local animal shelter was the best part! I agree that for $500 (and less) you can pick up a great guitar. I obtained a solid wood Breedlove concert European spruce top, solid African mahogany back and sides B-stock NOS (sounded like satin finish, warm & open tones for less than $350, gifted to my son in law). The B-stock was some delamination where the ploy finish didn't bond to the plastic binding, which does not affect playability. A signature Jeff Bridges version was about $75 more, which could be attributed to the more padded and embroidered gig bag. For more comfort (10-46 NYXL, or 9s) and more weight, I have an Ibanez AS-73FM (flamed maple) at $450 local (and Reverb). Thank you for this detailed exploration of features and specifications. Anything worth doing is worth (learning and) doing well.

I did the Fretlight thing when I began. It's a real guitar in all aspects. You plug it into an amp and play it just like a regular guitar. Only it hooks to your PC and there are actual LED lights embedded into the finger board. They light up when you are supposed to play those notes. It's a really good learning tool. But there were issues similar to this. It was all MIDI backing tracks that you downloaded and and to see the lights on the board, you had to hold the guitar at an unnatural angle and that straight away is bad form and technique. I ended up using a normal guitar and placing the Fretlight so I could see the lights and learned chords and songs that way. The bottom line? There are NO free lunches in life. Everyone wants that free lunch and it just isn't happening. My recommendations? Get an electric six string set up with 7 gauge strings, have it professionally set up with low action and if it's a small child, make it a 3/4 scale length. Sore fingers are a Rite of Passage and should not be avoided but instead relished and encouraged. One of the first joys of your journey is the first time you play without pain and you make it thru the song without mistakes. THAT is a shot in the ass that really pumps you up. Don't cheat yourself out of that pleasure

Reminds me of how actual guitar skills aren't transferable to skill playing 'Guitar Hero' video games. Having said that, those games DID in fact recruit new players to learn 'actual' guitar! While we don't want to gate keep joy of music, also do not want to misguide someone in a direction that wouldn't nurture the necessary skills, or short-change them or deter the real passion to explore the actual universe of discovery. There never are any short-cuts to achieving a level of proficiency. For what that thing costs, a whole beginner set-up and tutorial materials could be acquired.

A few things, you mentioned that the "capo mode" allows you to "detune" it. I'm wondering if there is a way to set it to a custom tuning and not something that is just a tuned up/down version of standard tuning. Can it do drop D tuning? I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but can you play harmonics? Does it do hammer ons and pull offs? Also, is there a way to disable that stupid strumming sound when changing the sound of the thing? I can see that getting REALLY old REALLY fast. Oh, and in addition, while I haven't tried it, I don't think this would have the same feel as an actual guitar. The movement of the vibrating strings. Not sure how this would handle vibrato or string bending.

I stopped learning guitar exactly because it's so much more difficult to even get a sound out of it than keyboards/piano. My barrier was barre chords.. they honestly hurt so much no matter what I tried.
I've never had any real pain with Piano unless it was because I played too much or when I was doing stretching to get my hand more comfortable with octaves and 9ths... but I didn't have to suffer though any pain until way WAY later on my journey and only because I wanted to get better. And I could do it for few minutes, then return to playing everything I could already play without any pain, which was a lot. I didn't have to suffer pain for BASICS.
But watching your video... this is NOT the way to get people through that barrier.

I agree that for starters, these chords are a problem, but also that this toy thing is not the solution.
Actually, you can play lots of cool chords without barré even up on the neck. Unfortunately, my guitar teacher back then never told me.

Well said HP, too many companies think they can jump on the Music Bandwagon, and Literally Steal money
from People wanting to learn an instrument so badly, they'll pay for crap like this

As someone who is comfortable playing guitar, my use case for this would be using it as a way of entering MIDI into a DAW more comfortably that using a keyboard.

which only makes sense if the tracking is acceptable and for that use there are already better MIDI guitars or MIDI pickups to upgrade your normal guitars.

I think there are already other guitar-based synths/midi controllers that work very well although they are sorta expensive too

It appears this company basically threatened another guitar you tube channel if they gave a less than stellar review. They wanted to see video before the videos release.

I came here from Andy’s video too. Watching this train wreck, I can see why Andy couldn’t in good faith give this dumpster fire a good review😂 what a crappy piece of expensive crap.

Excellent review. Great details. I though about it, and I think I have come up with a use for it. Church music. We often want to have accompaniment with piano, often its just strumming cords. This won't go out of tune like the church donated guitar sometimes does. And maybe wont scratch the piano if it falls over! Thank you
