  • I remember when Harley Benton Guitars were just cardboard simulations of actual guitars... a lot has changed over the years! The playability and usability of this €79 instrument is unbelievable.

I play this guitar as a backup and on gigs on festivals when it’s raining. I put Fender pickups in and I love the sound and the feeling of this unbelievable cheap guitar.

Beginner guitar players are blessed these days with a brand like Harley Benton. The quality for this kind of money is utterly rediculously nice. My TE-20 BK is a delight to play. Nice review, it shows the power of the instrument and the brand👌

Bought mine in 2020 and was really suprised by the quality for that price.
It was more or less a "well if it sucks it will look good on the wall" buy but I am still playing it on a regular base.
It also made me trust in the HB quality and some months later I bought my Fusion II which is still my absolute favourit guitar so far.

I have three HB guitars and I am happy with all of them. It is really nice that nowadays you can try a lot of different styles of guitar and see if you like them. I agree with Charles Grey´s comment that this is a great time for beginner guitarists and people on a budget like me.

When you were discussing the flaming on the neck, I instantly was reminded of how I felt when I opened up my HP-42. I was not expecting the roasted/flamed aesthetic for the neck and it was a pleasant surprise. You should really be plugging your HP-42 more, man. Its criminal how much guitar you get for under 400 USD. I got one a few weeks ago and I cant put it down.

The harley benton locking tuners, they are awesome. Full disclosure all and all, I spend 360 euro on it including the guitar. And now it's a touring and studio guitar.. that is insane.. I love it!

I gave such a TE-20 to my best friend for his birthday - since then he has not parted with him! He made some improvements - strings through the body, saddles from a copper bar, installed a chip neck humbucker from Epiphone. It turned out to be a great guitar! Especially for those who know how and love to work with their hands! But right out of the box - this is a great, beautiful and well-made guitar! Harley Benton is patron saint of emerging and poor musicians! ;)

Just for comparison, if anyone cares:
mine (in candy apple red), bought almost 3 years ago, is 3.4 kg and has no figuring on the fretbord (just a bit on the back of the neck). At that time, not D'addario strings on it. The cable inside the box was not expected, so it was a good surprire, even if it did not last much. Some black little spots under the finish (nothing I really care about, the colour is still amazing!). Under the pickguard there is a massive routing, you can fit anything you want in it, probably one of the reasons why the guitar is light.
I'm pretty happy with it as my first guitar, but I'm planning to treat myself with a better intrument sometime next year (I like the Tele sounds... in doubt if I should get a better T-style guitar or if I should expand my tonal possibilities)

I bought this because I liked the color and to use as test base for practicing setups and mods and I ended up playing it a lot. I expected it to detune a lot, fret work with minor issues... and was definitely wrong. I'll change the pickups but will hold the rest of the mods I was thinking of doing (bridge and tuners). I simply love the neck, I find it the easiest to play of all my guitars.

Bought it like 4 years ago. Replaced saddles, slapped custom pickups in, dressed fret ends a bit, made bone nut.
Sounds fantastic, playability like the multi grand brands, stays in tune even though I bend strings a lot. In 4 years only one minor neck adjustment.
    Eat your heart out Fender.

This is exactly the one I bought for 80 Bucks 2 years ago. Love it. It's prettied up and tuned now (TUSQ nut, guitarfetish Pickups, Brass Knobs and Saddles and: Since it cost so little I ground an arm contour into it), but the guitar really deserved to be prettied up and tuned.

I bought the candy apple red one in 2019 when they hit the shelves, just because I always wanted a red Tele with a maple neck to look at in my office which features red accents. I was lucky enough to get the model they used for the website pictures (you get a nice printed photo from the shooting along with your guitar in a neat envelope telling you that you got the photo model) and it is not only optically flawless but it plays and sounds so well that I love playing it. Frets and setup were perfect out of the box, pickups sound Tele-ish enough for me as a LP-lover and the fretboard feels really comfortable. I recorded with it and used it as a (red) prop in a Christmas Insta video - it absolutely punches way (way) higher than its price tag. Any beginner should really consider this guitar.

I got a TE-52 NA just to fill my tele need and didn't have a ton to drop on a new one. The guitar plays surprisingly well for 125 US at the time (about a year back). Only issue I found is on the neck pup one of the poles is like idk demagnetized or something. Over the g string its like it makes no sound but every other string on that pup sounds just fine. I didn't want to have to return it just bc of the hassle as everything else works great and I planned on upgraded the pups at some point anywy. That all being said, its the heaviest guitar I've ever played tele's included, definitely real solid wood.

  • @chriswilliams1096

I bought one in cherry red recently (Jan 24).
Pros: Pretty colour. Weighs 3.6kg, so no neck dive. Tuners work well and stays in tune. Neck is straight and relief is fine. Pots and switch work well. Tones are good for cheap ceramic pickups.
Cons: Fret ends were sharp enough to cut skin (really!). Although the frets were level, they were not crowned or smooth. Nut is cheap plastic and slots are too high. Strings were rusty (not Addario). There was a chip taken out of the neck near the nut - this had been filled with some sort of resin.
I bought it because it was cheap and I wanted to learn some simple luthier skills on it. So, I crowned and polished the frets. Put on a set of Super Slinkys. Tuned and intonated it. Lowered the action.
It plays quite nicely now and I am enjoying it. There's no point messing with slots on a cheap plastic nut so I plan to fit a bone nut soon. I think this is a bargain for someone like me who loves a bit of tinkering.

For those contemplating buying this guitar but have been unable to actually hold one, you may have seen reviews where the neck is described as "chunky" or "fat", which is purely subjective. Below is the actual dimensions of my TE20 (bought Oct '23) Decide for yourself. Thomann describe the neck as "Modern C".
The dimensions measured from fingerboard to the bottom of the neck with a Vernier Gauge are:
    Harley Benton TE20:
    depth at 1st fret 20mm
    depth at 12th fret 22mm
depth at 16th fret 33mm (start of the heel of the neck)
    width at 1st fret 48mm
    width at 12th fret 52mm
    width at 16th fret 54mm
    width at 22nd fret 56mm
Hopefully this will be of some use.

I've had my TE-20MN BM since March 2020, £77 back then, as a long term comparison with Bax Music's own brand Fazley FTL218CB (Cherry Burst) tele-style guitar that I bought as B-stock for about £56.
The difference was middling in terms of sound, with them sounding very much the same although the FTL218's pickups wasn't as well rounded as the TE-20's, but still plenty playable. The FTL218 has a splotch of black paint inside the upper horn, which is no doubt why it was being sold as B-stock and the TE-20 has just one speck where the metallic flake finish didn't reach...but you wouldn't know unless you held the guitar up to your face and with a good light source. Even in 1080p here, trust me folks the finish is something that needs to be seen in real life to be truly fully appreciated.
One more thing, I left the factory strings on because I wanted to see how long they'd last. The Fazley FTL218CB's strings lasted for about six months and the TE-20's strings? Still going strong and mine are not the D'Addario strings, just whatever was available at the time I suspect. Still, I've put them into Open G tuning on many occasions (with the low E also tuned to G rather than D) with a capo attached and even left the guitar in that tuning (capo removed obviously) and the TE-20 had stayed in tune by the time I came to play it again.
It's my go to guitar, only being rotated with the Harley Benton Dynamic HSH or, on occasion, the long since restrung Fazley.

To me, a reasonably light, warm-sounding 6.5-7.5 lb Tele is the holy grail. I built mine from parts- a mahogany thinline body, roasted maple neck w/stainless frets, Wilde pickups, 4-way switch, vintage tuners, etc. If I needed a cheap backup, it looks like I could unbox this Harley Benton, add a bone nut and a 4-way to it, and never look back!

I'm not a beginner, but I still got one of these. Excellent value for money. Great modding platform. Use it like a kit guitar to learn how to change things and do repairs. It does benefit from a full setup - so budget for that or do it yourself. My Fender Player Strat was 6 x the price, but not that much better. Honestly folks - you can't go wrong with this guitar. 🎸

I was one weekend bored at home and instead of going out for dinner I bought a guitar…
100% agree with the review. Is beautiful in the simplicity, the neck is amazing, the sound and strings are great… even I notice the same scratchy metallic bolt.
If you don’t have a Tele… no doubt, this is what you need.

I'm not a beginner, but I've never really played a 'tele' so I thought it might be fun to check one out at this price just to see if I would get along with this style of guitar. My only issue with it is that it is fairly heavy, and I prefer lighter-weight guitars. But literally that's the only thing I could find 'wrong' with it. I kept thinking, what's the catch? There must be some major shortcoming I'm overlooking, right? Even the controls feel much more solid than I was expecting. Impressive!

As a professional musician I own Fenders and Gibsons and I bought a HB TE-52 with Wilkinson pups just for the looks of it. Started gigging with it and bought a HB TE-52 with Roswell pups as a back up. They weigh a ton, but the sound and feeling is amazing.
Half a year ago someone bought the same blue TE-20 and didn’t like it, so he sold it to me for €50,00 including a genuine Fender case. Pretty strange, so I got the TE-20 for free!
Lowered the action, new strings, Wilkinson compensated copper string barrels and … I didn’t liked the baseball neck. Put the guitar aside for a while and after a couple of weeks I gave it another chance, and … I love it to pieces and take it everywhere.
I can dial in the sound I want, love the pups, the weight of it and the looks.
Beginner, amateur or pro makes no difference: you can’t go wrong with this TE-20.
    Have fun with it!

Basswood is a step above balsa, it's what we used in school to build bridges for an engineering assignment. It's a fairly light, cheap wood that's easy to work. That's likely why the body is so light. I don't personally buy into the whole tonewood thing so it's likely to sound just as good as say Ash or even possibly mahogany. The softness may translate into just slightly less sustain. I wouldn't sneer at this guitar and I just wish they could figure out how to ship to the US. 50% of the guitars I've bought from HB/Thomann have arrived damaged from shipping.

Wow Henning what a great demo as always. You can bet your butt if they have a lefty in that I'll be getting one right after I get my LEFTY EX-76 Classic with gold hardware, I just had to say that. They back ordered me on that one. They said it would be available in 5-7 weeks. I guess I should be thankful they even make a lefty in the EX-76 Classic. I'm very impatient and I hate like hell to be back ordered those bastards!!! Just Kidding! I think Thommen is going to take over the US Market. They just opened a new Warehouse to boot! I'm telling you SweetWater better watch out. I'm serious I can see Thommen taking over the US music market mark my words. Again I want to thank you for the great Demo's you have been doing. Till next time my friend. Great value for the money. One thing I don't like about Harley Benton teles (at least this cheap one and the kit) is the bridge which seems too long. Just makes it look a bit funny imo. I bought a shorter ash tray style bridge from aliexpress for my kit and it looks a lot nicer.

I was impressed with the guitar, it plays and sounds pretty decent, I can't understand how it is possible to sell a guitar like this for that price

I was looking at this guitar heavier it was considering getting the Visual note system to help me with my modes and arpeggios. They come either to stick onto your fretboard or on a shitty strat copy for €100 more. I thought, why don’t I just get the cheapest HB guitar instead, I bet it’s way better. Now I see my man has also reviewed the Visual Note system. You are doing important work dude.

  • @FloridaManRacer
    @FloridaManRacer ปีที่แล้ว +2

I bought one pre-pandemic, got the cheaper flat rate shipping they used to have and my total cost was $109 USD... I did a relic to it and it's my most played HB guitar of all five I've bought so far. The damn thing is EXCELLENT. The only legit gripe I'll accept is the bridge... it's not a full traditional ash tray and it's not string through. But for the price I dare you to show me ANYTHING that compares at this price. You can't. I don't shill for anyone, but if you want a cheap telecaster type guitar and you don't buy this one, I don't know what the hell you're doing with your life. It's that good.

Thomann doesn't look to make money off their " ultra budget " models like this one. It's a strategic and clever business strategy used by several businesses in various categories. The ultra budget range allows them to attract people to the brand as a starter model and the idea is that those customers will now stay and keep upgrading within the brand.
On these types of models, companies usually loose money. It's their investment in growth!

    • @TheHesseJames
      @TheHesseJames ปีที่แล้ว

It's actually a good strategy. I'll probably buy that guitar for 79 (I already have the black strat for 79 which I absolutely love!) Usually I also buy a stand and a strap, I already bought fret polisher, some tools, picks, a capo and so on. It all adds up. I also buy the strings through Thomann.

  • @dr.pfrutti646
    @dr.pfrutti646 ปีที่แล้ว

I have its bigger brother, the TE62. When I went to the Thomann store to check out a couple of Teles, I tested HB, Larry Carlton, Chapman, Squier, Fender...and I stuck with the Harley. Why? Some of the others may be objectively considered better guitars, but they to me they didn't feel so good as to justify the considerable price difference. I'm happy with it, and to me that's all that matters.
