My uncle used to just listen, he didn't transmit, but I found it fascinating to sit next to him back in the early 70's and listen and see him translate it. You have brought me back a bit.
Hi Sandy. You're a busy guy. It's hard to keep up with all your uploads. Very interesting hobbies you have! Beautiful Morse Keys ~ Awesome workmanship. Great review. I'll tell my daughter and neighbor who are hams. Wow you're good. (but I can touch type ) Peace, Ken
QRS I've been using my Wellings Commonwealth Model key yesterday and today. Great pieces of kit. I'll be ordering a Mini Key from John for sure - Top Quality craftsmenship. I'd like to see more outdoor HF CW videos, especially in the Lavvu and the rain. 73's
Very nice gifts Sandy, I'm not a ham guy as of yet but John's work is beautiful to look at if nothing else, lol. I think I'd do pretty well with the keyboard but not so well with the keys. Cheers, John
I saw one one John's keys here in Australia just recently. It was a thing of beauty. CW is a skill I'm not sure I will have a crack at. I only just got my entry level amateur licence so lots to learn and experience before I narrow down where my interests will lie. Cheers Sandy.
The future is in low power portable field operations with CW and wire antennae. LOL. Or maybe you are into APRS and moon bounce ? Or talking to the space station. For me life is between 0 and 60Mhz with some private 80Mhz and also 2m at the most. When I get back to Australia you can use my new rig I am setting up for comm's between Old Blighty and Station Alexander.
Hi Sandy. Another nice video, good to see the keys and your awsome sending. Just getting myself into gear to learn CW but at 57 years I'm thinking it might take some doing but hey ho I'll be giving it a go. Regards, Steve. G6JEF
Beautiful pieces of engineering... I'd have one just to look at lol. Your Morse videos always remind of wartime films... The only other time I really hear it. Really interesting stuff. Atb Ryan.
Sandy, Nice to see a HAM update, it has been a while. I first found you on Youube from your CW videos, although I do enjoy your outdoor videos too! That is a beatuiful key. I'm still learning CW, you are an inspiration. 73, Tom K2BEW
Hi Tom, I may not post too many CW videos but I am on the key quite often every week. Keep up the work on the key and you will soon become proficient. We never stop learning. Sandy
Sandy I did not know you were a ham so am I N1DHD/6 I was born in NYC (Queens lived there till 1982 when I moved to NH @ 28 1/2 yrs) via NH (17 yrs). My mom still lives in our home for (60 yrs) I was 9 months when we moved there. 73's 88's
Hi Kirsty, My interest in ham radiio goes back to my childhood. I had an uncle who was in the RAF during the second world war. He was a wireless op so I must have caught the bug from him. I only use CW. Quite often work hams across the pond. Hope you are enjoying your ham radio. Sandy
Ive got a straight kent key and the finish is no where new the finish of Johns keys ... just i could get be head round CW like you or my dad who was a W/op in the RAF during WW2. One day i might fire the ft817 up on 80 and give you a shout . Keep it up Sandy G8SYE
Hi Dan, I haven't had the chance too. Infact I have done no /p at all this year. Been so busy with the knife making and copter flying, but I really do want to go out and try the dipole. We must have a meet up. Sandy
+m0ggk Hi Dave. One of the best paddles that you can get for little money is the "Bencher" I picked on up at a rally a few years ago for a few quid and it is a lovely key. Very positive. I also have a Scheuneman Morse Dirigent. Thats the key I use the most but you will pay over £400 for one today and to be honest it feels no better than the Bencher!!
I dnt what you said in the code but its awesome!!! Nice work to John & that is just amazing you know how to do all this stuff I have a lot of catching up to do lol thank you sir for the video & good seeing you mate.
Hi Sandy, very interesting! This is something that has been floating around near the top of my list of things to try for a long time. Can you give any advice on the best way to start please? I know there is a Ham Radio club in York (about twenty miles away), probably a good starting place. Or can you recommend an online course to try. All the best, Al
It's funny to think that your so good at morse and don't consider yourself a good typist, I'm in awe of someone like yourself that sends CW so well - 73

I have one of John's keys. His first Marconi style. It is a great key and the craftsmanship is outstanding.
You won't go wrong with a Welling key. I know just how much work goes into building them!
