    Final season is out, go watch.

    "And you think me weak. And pliable and cowardly. But, alas for you, you are totally wrong."
    A tribute to one of my favorite characters from Vikings. I really love his connection with so many amazing characters from the show (Athelstan, Ecbert, Ragnar). I was pleased that at least one character I like made it through the end of the show.

    The only English king given the title of the Great, and he earned that not by killing and conquering and betraying, but by being a good man.

      Really one of the frist people in the world to push the idea to teaching literature and how to read and write. It is said the vikings were astonished by all the books they found in monistrys because obviously they hadn't yet learnt to read or write

      At the beginning we're not really meant to like Alfred. But as the show progresses aflred easily becomes most everyone's favorite character. He stole the spotlight frome uhtred early on.
      One of the reasons I prefer the last kingdom over Vikings is the way I believe it better portrays both sides. Vikings I felt shit on the Anglo-Saxons far too much. They made them look weak, evil, and greedy. While they made the Danes look like the conquering heros. The last kingdom portrays the good and bad of both sides very well. Which in turn shows you how important a man like Alfred was to his country.

    Vikings King Alfred is cool and all, but he was definitely shoehorned into this show just to appeal to more people. Historically, Alfred also never dealt with Ragnar’s sons like he does in the show.

      @08hassanakar62 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @A S You mean the brother of Uhtred? Ragnar ragnarsson

    • @samscopeproductionz
      @samscopeproductionz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @A S thats fictional however, mainly because there’s a lot about the Viking age in England we don’t know about.
      In reality Alfred only fought with Guthrum and the Great Viking Army, however, I was wrong to an extent because it is theorised he did defeat Ubba (like in tlk) at Cannington who was one of Ragnar’s sons, but he never fought Ivar or Bjorn or Halfdan, though, given that they had conquered the North of England, they probably did know of each other.
      The conquest of Northern England was carried out by his children and was completed by his Grandson Aethelstan.

    • @samscopeproductionz
      @samscopeproductionz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jordan Skipp several things, the great heathen army Alfred faced was lead by Guthrum and Ubba, not Halfdan and Ivarr, with Ubba being killed by Odda of Devon at Cynwit and Guthrum converting to Aethelstan after Edington.
      True, Ivarr was not boneless or a cripple, but it is likely he was a son of Aslaug, who was Ragnar’s second wife. He also is recorded to have died in 870, which was a year before Alfred became king.
      It is said Ivarr was buried along the English coastline to ward off invaders, only to be dug up and exhumed on a pyre by William of Normandy. The whole Repton thing is largely theory as there is no proof any of the 260-odd people in the mass grave there are Ivarr.

      The Last Kingdom was a terrible adaptation of a truly epic historical novel. They butchered the books Cornwell wrote and turned the whole story into a Game of thrones wannabe; despite the books being immensely better than that plagiarized from numerous sources, crappy excuse for dwarf porn/ snuff movie/ quasi-peadohilic pile of crap R.R Martin wrote. You have a destiny Alfred that you cannot escape so you better get use to it. In the mean time listen and learn. Listen to the highest and the lowest, learn from the prince and from the Shepard.

    • @RayB1656
      @RayB1656 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do not believe that the Monk/King Alfred of Wessex learned from a ''prince'' or a '' shepherd'' ! ( you are talking about God ? ) He was educated by the Monks, learning certainly Latin and Greek philosophy and military strategy ( the hoplites ) , which he used against the Viking Great Army of Guthrum... Concerning one's destiny... I do not believe this, nothing is ''written'' , men and women makes the best they can, on this Earth, before death !

    from what i understand, alfred isnt called the great because of his miliary victories but because he was a true christian king. when he defeated his enemies, he didnt slaughter or enslave them as was the habit of the time, instead he gave them the choice to become his subjects protected under law, which meant that the vikings werent wiped out in england but instead became steadfast supporters of the english realm. theres a story i was told that exemplifies alfred: his army was besiging an enemy castle and his army had captured the young son of the the lord of the castle. it was usual to demonstate hopelessness of the beseiged by maiming of hostages. usually the son would have been made blind and tortured in front of the castle walls. instead alfred showed the son to the castle walls but rather than torturing alfred played conkers with the boy and taught him chess. this was astonishing behaviour. when the seige was ended there was no looting or pillaging, and the lord was allowed to remain so long as he pledged fealty, which he did with tears of gratitude. in later years the boy became one of alfreds most loyal ministers. This and other reasons is why he was called great. Mercy, compassion, intelligence

    Alfred The Great
    A king you could love. A king to be proud of. A king you would die for. His Grandson achieved his dream of England though he laid down the foundations of this beautiful country. This country could do with an Alfred the Great right now. I follow the Gods and he did not but one God though doesn’t diminish the absolute respect I have for this man and what he did for England during his life.
    He is one of the reason why I am proud English pagan
