As a fellow glasses wearer, my heartfelt solidarity to Nat at the beginning of the video.
Thank you, it was quite hard to see a thing with the rain 😂
@@InkItOutI have similar issues, being a 4👀 myself!
So glad to see the Settle-Carlisle railway in this video, it truly is a gorgeous railway line!
Really was!
how the- it says u posted it 1 day ago but it got posted 4 hours ago 😿
I stayed in kirkby Stephen station, it was good
@@NickBadleyhi
Awesome video Nick and honestly Natt did a epic job at Chathill Station! Even know Nottingham is the Southern point on the Northern Network, used to be Derby there were some very late services which called at Derby but now withdrawn. Also the southern operated Northern Station is Sandbach as I did that journey once travelling from Sandbach to Chathill in a day for only £5!
oh nice! yeah we knew about the Derby, we made sure to check that it definitely had no services anymore before doing this 😂
It feels weird without Nick being in some clips of the video today but Natt did a great job on Chathill station 👏👏
Thanks Nick and Nat for another lovely video, at least you were not affected by any cancelled trains due to weather conditions.Nat did the early part very well , she must have got soaked waiting for the train.
4:20 - “I need to explore this someday”? The Tyne Valley line? Absolutely! I couldn’t possibly agree more!
Pre-covid, there used to be a one-a-day service from Nottingham to Leeds in the evening which would call at Derby, further south than Nottingham station. It also went on the Nottingham to Derby line to do so, passing the East Midlands Parkway spur, meaning Northern used to go slightly further south technically.
Great video again guys and well done Nat in the rain at Chathill.
You should do the same, but with Scotrail
well well well, he did exactly that now!
th-cam.com/video/yE_VNTMKMhI/w-d-xo.html
i would suggest TPE but we know they are a roulette atm
Thurso to Carlisle using only ScotRail would be an interesting (albeit very long) North to South trip
Natt is our hero! 🎉 Some pretty epic views on those lines! 👍🏻
It's nice seeing you take the very scenic routes in this video up north!!! Tyne Valley is always great. I've never been as far as Chathill yet. I hope you enjoyed it! :)
This is a really cool video idea! Maybe you could do the same with Transport for Wales or ScotRail at some point 😂
The most northerly station on the TFW network is Prestatyn. The most southern is Cardiff Wales Airport, involving two changes at Chester and Cardiff, on TFW trains only. There are even a few direct trains from Prestatyn to Cardiff, making the journey even simpler.
Great video as always. Hope you don’t mind us doing the Southern network soon! ~ Daniel
Brilliant video Nick, you've gone down a rather scenic route indeed. :)
awesome journey i really enjoyed this i love Newcastle & Carlisle atations & Natt did an awesome job at Chathill at the start
EMR - London St Pancras to Barton on Humber. St Pancras to Nottingham, then across to Habrough then up to Barton
you should do this with CrossCountry from Aberdeen in the north to Penzance in the south (all on 1 train)
Some trips that could be interesting would be:
- GWR North (Worcester Shrub Hill) to South (Penzance)
- TFW North (Manchester Pic.) to South (Rhoose Cardiff International Airport) - TFW East West doesn't have much of a point since there are direct trains between Stockport to Milford Haven
- ScotRail East (Aberdeen) to West (Arisaig) or North (Thurso) to South (Carlisle)
with GWR its a question of whether North-South or East-West makes the more interesting trip... either way Penzance is included (probably as the starting point) but you get the choice between Worcester Shrub Hill and Gatwick Airport (via the North Downs line)
Settle to Carlisle route is the only northern route with catering
And it's not provided by Northern either hut by the supporters of the line group.
When I was in north queensferry because of babet the WHOLE line shut down on my shopping day in Edinburgh 😂
Give natty her own series.
She has her own channel. If enough people ask, she might do it if she wants too
Is this the new Geoff and Vicki?
Having grown up in the Tyne Valley I would LOVE to see you do more videos on the Newcastle to Carlisle line. Beautiful part of the world.
Nat is good at taking over for nick love your videos!
Yet another innovative series idea! The team you both make is amazing! You and Natt are both so knowledgeable and incredibly entertaining! I hope you don’t burn yourselves out with too much content creation.
The route you chose was very cool too.
Finally subscribed ;)
As Natt mentioned Alnmouth being nice. I can assure you it is. I live there and I absolutely love my little village. So thank you for giving it a little mention
The GWR network would be a pretty good one to do this with considering it’s size, and I suppose there’s the choice to do North-South or East-West
Most northerly on GWR would be Worcester Foregate Street with the most southerly & westerly being Penzance, Whereas the most easterly would be Redhill (I believe it just beats Paddington by a mile or two, worth a check though).
Potentially possible to do all 3 in one go?
GWR was a big one we thought of, I believe Nick did a poll on his twitter (X now) about which people class as further north out of the Worcester stations
Natt did a wonderful job at the start of the video, well done!
I'm guessing that a Saturday trip direct from Norwich to Liverpool on the 7 city (non) Express packed full of football fans, Christmas shoppers and hundreds of other leisure travellers would be quite an experience (especially on a 2 carriage Class 158)! 😅
Lovely little contribution by Natt. I think, should she be appearing and contributing more often, it might be nice to maybe reflect that in your channel name? Like Paul and Rebecca Whitewick do. Although, they are a married couple going by the same family name.
Nick and Natt would be a good channel name though!
I love the lines you chose today, it make me think of when people say "It grim up North" and you just look at our nature and want to cry at its beauty. I almost cried ones on a foggy day between Leeds and York, the view was just so beautiful.
The southern point of the Northern network being in the Midlands both makes sense and frustrates me. I'd love to see an east-west version, idk what the real places are but Blackpool to Scarborough would be a trip and a half. Great excuse to talk about closed railways/stations. (Whitby-Scaraborough and Blackpool Central own my heart lol)
Thank you Nat! Until probably COVID, there was 1 Northern train a day at Derby - a route-learning evening service from Nottingham to Sheffield going that way in case of engineering works closing the line through Ilkeston. Derby is about 4.5km further south than Nottingham.
3hrs on a 158 sounds like a dream tbh
Yes, solidarity to Nat at the beginning of the video... I enjoyed this one. Well done to you both.
Hey, shame you didn’t get the best weather to fully enjoy the Settle to Carlisle line and you looked to be sitting on the wrong side of the carriage to fully enjoy seeing the curve of the Ribblehead Viaduct. The catering trolley is run by the Settle to Carlisle Railway Trust, don’t think for one minute it’s a Northern offer 😂 It’s also very interesting to get off at Hellifield, besides a wonderful cafe on the platform, West Coast have sidings there to swap loco’s usually diesel to steam to continue to Carlisle.
Yeah we definitely would want to explore the Settle - Carlisle line more. The train was quite packed so yeah it was unfortunate we were on the wrong side, but due to the fog we probably wouldn’t have seen much anyway 😂
GB rail providers North to South is a great idea for a series
Yeah unsure who’s idea it was but I definitely wanted to do it for a whilst, and not just north to south, east to west is one that works too!
Fantastic video and a series to do , and think for every TOC you do , to do furthest north to furthest south and furthest east to furthest west
5:11 If you want something to do in Carlisle, my mum's home city by the way (actually she was born and raised in Wigton just down the road but close enough), there is a beautiful chippy just outside the station, absolute 10/10 reccomendation
"You can't beat this view!". I dunno, the Hope Valley views are really stunning at times!
Excellent really enjoyed watching it. Looking forward to the next video.
That got me thinking about my local railway which is Thameslink, Great Northern and Southern. Northern most station is Kings Lynn, but I can't see if Eastbourne or Seaford is the most southerly. A journey to try sometime I think.
Great video Nick! I'd love to see the westernmost to easternmost point on GWR, could be fun!
Cornwall or Wales to London?
I've been on that RAF 100 northern 156 a few times before, very cool indeed.
West to East next? St Bees to Cleethorpes - little bit of a challenge there with the last section, using Northern only trains.
Settle to Carlisle line is lovely. I've done it once before. Shame the weather wasn't great however.
I feel as though East Midlands is another contender for this as they go as far as Liverpool and crewe all the way down to London, might be interesting
as well as north south, you could do east west .... Liverpool to norwich. Or under the era of Central Trains I think on a summer Saturday you could do Shrewsbury (maybe even further west), and Lowestoft, certainly as far as Norwich.
I've was on the air force 156 about 2 years ago. It mostly runs on the Cumbrian Coast route
Nice one Nick! Here's a suggestion: ScotRail: The furthest south station (Carlisle) to the second furthest south station (Stanraer). I expect you'll want to wait for the weather to clear up first though. Alternately, try covering as many stations that TfW calls at as possible while not riding on TfW (must get to the station via Avanti, GWR, etc).
not sure if going one stop would make a great video`?
@@markkajcthink you need some Geography lessons mate
Northern could impose a new timetable to operate between Newcastle-Chathill and to use Class 323 or Class 319. And perhaps to extend to Berwick-upon-Tweed and to terminate there.
158s are great trains, I do use them quite a bit. Actually I live in Skipton which is on the Carlisle to Leeds run so 158s are a regular, even to Morecambe
Catering on board? Never knew that Northern did such thing!
Well this has to be the best video yet, my family homeland and on my favourite line on earth the Tyne Valley line. Blaydon , Wylam, stocksfield, Riding Mill, Corbridge, Hexham, Haydon Bridge, Bardon Mill and the centre of England Haltwhistle ( name not railway related) Bramton True Nick yaa cannit beat it yaa knaa. Well done to young Nat for pronouncing Newcastle correctly. Did you manage to try any Stotties? If only we had the internet and TH-cam in the 80s as I used to travel by train all over the country back then. I'd be doing what you're doing now, I envy you and Nat keep up the great work. It's geet canny 👍
On Sundays you can get a Carlisle to Nottingham DIRECT service....
I'd love to see mini versions of this, like for Merseyrail or Tyne and Wear metro.
Loving the thumbnail! Thanks Natt!
There is one that is absolutely impossible - Warrington Central station to Warrington Bank Quay lower! It's about 15 minutes on foot, but the station, although physically there, is now on a freight only line! You could try doing Central to WBC, but without going via Manchester, Crewe, Chester, or Wigan. (evil grin!)
The waiting shelter is being rebuilt but the workers haven’t been building it since February
Me being from Ilkeston, was very sad when he completely skipped the stations local to me 😭
Northern reliveried 156480 back in 2017/18 to celebrate 100 Years of the RAF.. Glad she’s still in that livery tbh
Great video, and quite unique , so very enjoyable. I guess Northern East /West would be a good one. Or Southern rail, furthest North to South?
I think the biggest distance would be Thurso - Carlisle for Scot rail. (Thurso - Inverness - Glasgow queen street - Partick - Glasgow Central - Carlisle
The shortest would be Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin (if u count Island Line separate from SWR)
A long, long time ago, you could have done the Carlisle-Nottingham stretch all in one train.
You can still do that journey directly but it's only 1tpd
What a legend Nat, sticking out the rain. You should do the TPE route I think Edinburgh is the north and maybe Stockport the south but it would only be one change at Pic I think
Or EMR Barrow upon Humber to London St Panc's would be good one with the changers required
East to West ?
Cleethorpes via Brigg & Cumbrian coast line.
Awesome Video: TOC you could do is GWR but the routeing is up to you. Keep up the great vids
Another Great video! You could do ScotRail or EMR as a suggestion
Idea for another TOC: Southern
Great video!
Sorry Nick, she's every bit as good as you! Didn't even notice your absence! Great job from Nst!
LNER's north of Edinburgh cancellations are a pain in the a***, and are becoming a decidedly common occurrence, I might add. Especially when Scotrail trains continue to run along the same routes - yet they provide buses for Advance ticket holders. I'm liking the idea of jourrneys between compass points on a specific operator though - can we expect St Bees to Bridlington, now - or is it somewhere else??
Hat tip to Natt, who can pronounce Alnwick correctly.
You've both got a lot of lines to fill in in your altases.
150s are lovely trains ....
This means war
@@NickBadleywhy do you hate 150s so much lol
I think doing the Norwich to Liverpool Lime Street on MER would be a good run for farthest East to West on a TOC.
Scotrail...Thurso/Wick to Newcastle, runs with scotrail staff GLC to CAR then northern staff to NCL
Always wanted to ask, why do you sit facing rearwards? Particularly on the Settle-Carlisle line, facing forwards is the way to go!
Love watching your videos nick there really interesting and I use the Tyne Valley line all of the time from hexham to Newcastle really is a beautiful route with some very nice stations I prefer the 158 over the 156 if u ever up Newcastle way again I would happily do it with u
I have an idea - you could try this with Cross-country, going from Aberdeen to Penzance! I hope you make it out alive >:)
you should do emr next time
Cromer to... either Southend Victoria or Liverpool Street. I think Southend is further south? Nope, just checked, and it's LST. Ah well!
Chathill is fairly near Seahouses but other than that it's a very unusual terminus.Apart from myself I have never seen anyone get on/off at Chathill,Acklington,Widdrington and Pegswood.I think that the reason why they terminate Chathill must be the lack of a bay platform at Berwick?
You should do east to west
(lime st - Cleethorpes)
you could try with cross country, 13 hours on a voyger, aberdeen to penzance
Cross Countries furthest north and south stations. You can also check off the longest journey in the UK by train!
Great video!
Next time EMR, east to west!
You could do this with all the TOCs, but Island Line wouldn’t take very long!
Cool 🕶
Would be interesting with WMR!
I wonder if you could do the most northerly station in the UK to the most southern in 24 hours (probs using sleeper trains)
As for other TOCs how about ScotRail! or TfW?
Would love to see this done on avanti or scotrail since i think (correct me if im wrong) theyre they both have the largest network in the uk
I'm thinking that with most of the TOCs operating south of London it'll be more interesting to do East-West rather than North-South
we need ones for southern but for SE and GWR the most east and west stations
GWR would be interesting North to South and East to West too tbf, that was one on our books
I really hope you do EMR to it’s extremes. Covers more than East Midlands
Scotrail north to south would be interesting, Carlisle to thurso
I wish I can do some of the journeys with you
Furthest north-south on most other TOCs would just be to/from London. But why not further east-west on Northern? I make that St Bees to Cleethorpes
Looking forward to a North Easternmost to most south westernmost stations on SWR
