The smallest stations I've seen are in Cornwall. The Looe Valley line, for example, has platforms that can accommodate train of a maximum length of just 2 carriages, usually (at the time I last was in Cornwall) the trains were just a single Class 153 unit running between Looe and Liskeard, reversing outside (some actually calling at) Combe Junction Halt
I use to travel from Thornford and back most days for work. In the winter I'd have to wave the train down with my phone torch so the driver can actually see me. Very rare to see other passengers there! I also find it pretty funny the train just stops short of the platform and they just open the front door, your own personal train almost.
If 4 hours between trains is bad, you should see the Limerick Junction to Waterford line with only 2 trains in each direction a day and no train service on Sunday
Brilliant video Nick, I don't fancy the idea of walking alone on country lanes in the middle of nowhere really lol. Also I'm so disapointed that the yellow button on the help point didn't work in the end.
Sometimes tiny stations seem irrelivant, but as shown in this video they can be some of the nicest little places and so full of character! Also cool video didn't even know half of these stations existed! 🤣
Hi Nick. Nice to see videos about deepest Dorset railways, thank you. How about a bit of nerdy useless information? Perhaps in theory you visited a fourth station on the Heart of Wessex line. After leaving Maiden Newton going toward Thornford you passed the site of Cattistock station, when it closed in 1966 its two concrete platforms were moved, remember this was once a double track main line which was "rationalised" i.e. singled in 1966. One platform went to Thornford and the other to Chetnole, this was done to replace old wooden platforms originally in use at both locations. Does that information mean you can "tick off" a ghost station?
Disappointed that I never did the Heart of Wessex line when I lived in that part of the country... especially as it had top&tail 31s in those days! Yetminster sounds like it should be Jim Hacker's local station (one for the oldies there) 🤣
Ah, my closest request stops! It's silly that you can't even park or walk without getting run over to Chetnole and Thornford, Chetnole especially, in fact I know Chetnole locals that use Yetminster instead because of it!
I'm also planning a trip to Chetnole at some stage in the coming months, I went to Sugar Loaf last weekend and it's a direct train for me in Bath (Chetnole that is, to be clear!). The guard on the heart of Wales line had never let anyone off at Sugar Loaf and the driver was very excited to stop there too. GWR trains on the Heart of Wessex line terminate at Bristol all the time these days, it's super normal. It's a general region I've gone through plenty of times in the car, but haven't actually really visited that much. Every time ive tried the next train button at Avoncliff, it never works Update having now been to Chetnole: nope the help point doesn't work it just goes please wait for a while and doesn't connect but there were people getting on or off at all 3 request stops both on the way there and back
Chetmole mow has a replica "period" sign on its tiny platform, reading "Chetnole Halt." Bristol Temple Meads is the usual destination on this line these days..
My mum used to work as a live in housekeeper/cook at one of the big houses south of yeovil/sherborne. I spent several lazy summers in the late 1980s wandering those same backlanes, and catching the odd train out of thornford to go _somewhere else_ for a day.
If you ever go abroad please create us some abroad train videos 🚆 Thank you for all your videos it has been my go to unwind and calm channel after a long day filming.
No way that you could've been down that way when I was exploring round that way. Well along a similar area. I was using a Freedom of Severn and Solent 3 in 7 rover
Having been on this line a couple of times in early January, the trains stopping at Bristol TM is indicative of staff shortages rather than engineering work.
Thornton, Yetminster and Chetnole stations are very tiny but vast unique and yes they are in the middle of nowhere. Maybe you should do more videos of nowhere railway stations. Plus have you done Hilsea station that doesn’t get as many trains stopping there.
Nick, I was just wondering if you always will go to a station on opening day, I have recently emailed my MP about a station reopening (closed in 1952) and if it was opened I'd love to see you there
All these little stations in the middle of nowhere, yet there’s not even a railway line to Ripon and that’s a city Also nothing at Leeds Bradford Airport I believe
Also: the amount of stations in tyndrum and llanwrst (combined population of 1000) is the same as the amount of stations in Doncaster, York and Aberdeen combined (combined population of like 500,000). If I made a mistake there please tell me.
Yetminster village looked very picturesque; a quick look at Google Maps and I found it has a little antiques shop in the centre which you would've had time to pop into for a bit. I might consider riding this line down to Weymouth, definitely looks scenic.
europe is so intresting with all these trains for passengers. In NA there isnt much passenger trains because all the rail is owned by freight companies
USA here...........i thot you were walking on the pavement......then you said, finally pavement, we call pavement the road you drive on...and sidewalk where you walk on...ha...i need Google translater.........thanks for the video 👣
This TH-cam channel need rebarnd how about The Virgin for life Trainspotter
What?
Lmao pin of shame
'rebarnd' lmao
What the pin of shame you idiot 😂😂
For the record, I ended up going on that train to Bruton, then turned round and went to Upwey, then back to Bournemouth!

ill have a field day exploring other stations around dorset etc
You are seeing rural Dorset at its best!
It's brilliant!
I love the infectious enthusiasm you bring to all your videos
Thanks!
I grew up in Dorchester! Moved out when I was 18 almost 10 years ago.. fond memories! I see Rail Alphabet 2 has made it to Dorchester West
It's so weird that these stations get better service than Cincinnati

Coombe, St Keynes, Causeway and Sandplace can't even officially fit a 2 car 150; the rear door is not on the platform.

Try getting a train from Denton or Reddish South, it only runs once a week and used to only run one way
get this, go to Elton & Orston. There are literally 2 trains, 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon, then that's it
4:18 same with Newton St Cyres in Devon. The platform is so low the doors only one door opens on the Harrington Hump.

Nice video Nick, Yetminster really does look like a lovely village apart from the disused bus stop
Bernie Arms used to be a request stop answer is shippea Hill and spoon around and Brampton used to be a request stop

6:45 I think that that says its not in use anymore if its from 2012

Have you tried the smallest train in the uk its the Stourbridge line.
You’re getting good with the smooth commentaries, keep up. Great video.
Thanks

Definitely a missed opportunity for a "Yes, Minister" pun on Yetminster..
Great video, having travelled that line a few times it was nice to see the stations and local area.
I love this kind of video!
Nice One-Track station..... then a little hike through the Countryside, nice adventure.
Nick, you should do Acton Bridge to Acton Central (tube)
If you ever go abroad please create us some abroad train videos 🚆
Thank you for all your videos it has been my go to unwind and calm channel after a long day filming.
It's always a pleasure to watch your videos.
Nice video! You should do a pointless journey/ point to point from Thorne North to Thorne South in East Yorkshire.
When ever I've gone through Bristol temple meads theirs always work going on
Welcome To The Middle Of Nowhere (Dorset)
What an interesting trip! I enjoyed your journey to the countryside.
Great video👍
Pointless journey suggestion : Wigan wallgate to Wigan North western. Also, really like these videos.
Imagine being stranded their or living yhere when trains pn strike and theres no buses and people cant drive and there no shops about
Amazing video Nick!
You should have thumbed a lift from one of the passing cars on that road. Silly how such a major route has only a single train track.
Lovely!
what awesome remote stations
Hope you enjoyed your visit to the hart of wessex line
So cute!
All of those had excellent pubs in the days when the was a Heart of Wessex Rail Ale Trail. Not sure how many will have survived Covid though.
Tanks Nick for another enjoyable video
Did I see that correctly? A domino's built into the old station building at dorchester west??
hey nick badley do point to point from woolwich arsenal to woolwich dockyard
Just rewatched a certain "Least Used Chetnole" video by a certain couple.... looks a great area
Please can you go to Gilfach Fargoed because it is a tiny platform in the middle of nowhere.
No way that you could've been down that way when I was exploring round that way. Well along a similar area. I was using a Freedom of Severn and Solent 3 in 7 rover
Geoff and Vicki: "I'm waiting"
Love the content. Keep up the great work! Can you do something about the request stops on the barrow to carlisle line?
Possibly, at some point!
@@NickBadley thanks!
When I saw the title I though: it’s either going to be thornford, yeitminster and chetnole or rannoch, corrour and tulloch.

What is the station? Id like to know more.
I was on gwr and one seat was a first and the rest gwr
For an unscripted vlog Nick, this was very interesting. Friendly staff as well, very good. Keep up the good work.
They should have buses between those remote stations instead of walking on a dual carriageway
Could you please do a train tier list video
I love 1 platform stations
The OS map shows a footpath some of the way. which would avoid some of the road walking. Why not?
love ur vids kick
Reminds me of Alan Bennett...
Interesting.
Blair Athol: am i a joke to you?????
Yetminster , home of The Yetties

Haddiscoe.

Hey! I had visiting random stations random stations randomly by getting on random trains copyrighted
The words "Yetminster" and "Civilization" aren't often used in the same sentence ...
You think this is “the middle of nowhere”, you need to go to Corrour..
More SWT video 📷

You need to go from Cosham to Bosham and avoid the grammatical trap. Probably, now too late for your South Coast visit.
cool i was wondering if i could have a shoutout
When the driver blasted the horn when u requested the train was the driver telling you that he saw u and was going to stop the train 🚆
