Here’s the problem with the fireplace (in my opinion). Because the mantle is painted the same as the rest of the fireplace, you lose the texture and detail. This area in your home always reminds me of the flinstones house for some reason. Just bulky. I like the copper more than Barney, but this still ain’t it for me. But hey, I don’t live there so who cares? Hahaha!
@@BelindaShort I didn't mind it all one colour when it was the deep purple colour, but with the copper it just doesn't look right to me. I'd have preferred a deep brown-almost-black on the fireplace, with a wood mantle and then the wall colour above (or a complimentary colour, just not the same as the lower portion). XO Macenna did this beautifully in her formal living room with a dark fireplace and mantle, but light on the wall above. It looks fabulous. I think the darker tone would also really complement the rest of the home, which tends to be a lot of black and white. The copper to me is not a deep enough colour. But hey, they both like it and that's what matters! We don't have to live there. Haha!
imo the top of the fireplace should be light like the walls surrounding it, and the mantle should be a deeper wood tone (as should the frame) and that's what contributes to the bulkiness!
It just feels flat and blah. No character. It needs some definition or dimension whether it's different colours or a mantle to break it up. Maybe some crown moulding
I think the ottoman placement makes it look like a store rather than homey :/ wishing that was gone because the color doesn't make sense to me in this space either and I otherwise love the fireplace with the entryway color

You can put candles in the fireplace, it looks very aesthetic and gives you real fire :) That throw blanket is awesome, btw, and rhymes with the tiles perfectly
I have a small vintage English fireplace and I've put little logs and fairy lights in it since it's so small to fit candles, but the lights bounce off the old steel and give off the warm glow of a fire!
The fireplace looks amazing but the colours in the painting just look all wrong with the bronze for me, which is definitely because it's so bare around it at the moment and that gives me the itch to just underframe it either side with some plants on the mantle to introduce more green and so help the eye actually appreciate the contrast.
I legitimately hope that you and Becky step back once in awhile and review (with amazement) how far you’ve come! From pink and blue highlighter Halloween costumes to renovating entire homes! I love the copper. I think a rug would anchor the room better because the ottoman looks like its just hanging there. I am also a fan of any shade of green.
Yeah I feel like that section of the room needs a purpose and something to anchor it. Feel like it’s calling out for a cosy rug with some texture. I also liked someone else’s idea of a much bigger round ottoman on it to sit and on shoes
🫒Love layers of lovely green. Hard to resist many different shades of this earthy, delicious color🥑. 😉Think the chair (& darker pillow combo) turned out to be a happy accident. Sadly, the green ottoman seems a bit lost. Maybe a rug would help to anchor it. ⬇️ It is low, but as a person who enjoys sitting on the floor, I don't mind that aspect too much. Of course, I'm also taller & recovering from a broken🦵leg at present. ↕️ Getting up & down is truly tricky right now🤣. 😊 Like it being round in shape to keep the flow 🔄 going around it. 😬Certainly no expert, however I suspect the scale &/or proportion of the ottoman maybe off. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
The tile looks great. I probably would have white washed the interior of the fireplace as it's never going to be used. The copper just looks brown, in my opinion.
I was looking for this comment! The tile definitely needs a white backing. And the rest of the fireplace needs to fit the grey/white a bit more. A more muted cold tone would have been a lot better imo. Like grey, or sage green or black or light blue.
A vase with pink flowers on the fireplace or by the window is what i think is missing to make the artpiece a little more cohesive with the rest of this stunning room💚 you got such good style!
...or a brightly coloured patterned pillow. As to the colour of the fireplace, people need to remember that colours read differently on screen than in actual real life. I think the makeover is great!
Absolutely love the bold choice of original art and how it makes the space even more YOU. (Plus, the DIY framing job is so inspiring. Definitely want to see more on how that was done).
An oxidation effect to the copper color might help the all-brown translate better across camera. Create depth by sponging in muted blue-greens and rust red. Just a suggestion! If you like how it looks in person don’t change anything!
This one's a miss for me but the tile choice and installation look wonderful! I think I'd prefer if the color didn't extend all the way to the ceiling, I don't think the canvas is quite the right shape for the space...but this is the best thing about home upgrades; we can always go back and paint if we don't like it, and as long as you guys like it, that's what matters in the end!
I love the copper, though I'd probably have painted the mantel a contrasting color, or maybe even black, just so that the copper stands out a bit more. As to the chair, I've painted upholstered chairs with latex paint and textile medium to good effect, if you ever wanted to redo it. I like the effect that Rochelle got with the dye, but dyeing something that you can't submerge in water is so hit or miss.
Your tile is lovely✨ Doing the plaster fireplace in a natural cream colour will double the space visually, and have a more seamless, organic, upscale feel.
It’s not copper, it’s more brassy gold and not giving me a cohesive vibe with the tile and stained brick. Suggest painting the mantle the same as your door/window trim.
OMG!!!! I commented on last video "Copper + mosaic + tint darker shade the bricks" and it's the final result!! It looks so stunning 🤎 I love how the chair turned out textural and natural. And the ottoman is so cute. One thing I would personally return the mirror, the space would look SO much more elevated!
I teared up laughing because of the wonderful edit as Rochelle was telling Kelsey what happened with the chair, we get a flashback to the bucket water throw. The chair is oddly perfect with a touch of whimsical. I don't mind the "dark" spot though.
I’m so addicted to your making home series. Probably because for the last 11 years I’ve been slowly redoing my own home. It was supposed to be a starter home but guess I’m still here. I find this series so incredibly relatable. Sometimes you make small changes just to make the space your own until you can afford the bigger ones. And then you end up going back and redoing some rooms as your lifestyle changes. It’s so refreshing to see someone revisit a space and change it into something completely new and beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
honestly the fireplace color isn't my favorite but I really like the tile! I feel like I'm used to copper being more reddish/orange and that copper is only brown so I'm not vibing with it, but I do like it more than the previous color. the green chair kinda looks like it's been sitting outside for a while in the sun, it's not bad! I love the ottoman's color!
There's something about Kelsey's relationship with color that somewhow doesn't excedute well and I'd love it they explored in a future video (i.e. the process of her color choices in the past videos) 🙂! I could feel Rochelle's nausea and panic ❤, but the important thing in general is that Kelsey likes what she created.
I’ve never liked a single colour Kelsey has chosen. The toilet room, this fireplace, those beautiful doors Becky restored, in general I’m always just baffled with her decision but it’s her house not mine so as long as she loves it
Rochelle did a great job in the chair! I have to agree with Elliott about the ottoman.. Not the item itself, but placement seems strange. That said, I'm not a designer, so you do you, boo! 🤩
Read all the iffy comments before seeing the final outcome, so I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out. But I actually love all of it! Even the funky fun painting. You can’t please everyone, so as long as you love it that’s all that matters!
Oh gosh Kelsey, don't over stress yourself, things are looking so pretty. The chair color is really pretty and that ottoman is nice without those feet on it. If you wanted to take care of the edges on the fireplace you can use a caulk and I know I have seen caulk in a beige color not white. I also really like that artwork and the frame around it. You can also design the fireplace with some decorative candles that is a really cool vibe and aesthetic, and looks like a real fire but safer. Oh I think this fireplace color is also so gorgeous and like it better than the other color, that bronze is so cool. This entryway room makeover really is so beautiful and thanks for sharing this with us all it was a fun video to watch. Have a beautiful rest of your day, sending love and hugs, bye! 😅🥰🤗👍💜💜💜
I've had a lot of success painting upholstered furniture. Add fabric medium to latex paint, sand it, coat with clear wax (doesn't get greasy. Just softens it more and protects). Have never tried dying.
weirdly enough, this has been the most interesting and nerve wrecking case of "trust the process" ive gone through while the video progressed (especially with the fireplace), but by the end, i definitely understand your vision more and im glad to see the space look more cohesive and be something both you and elliot are happy with !
Yes! This version looks much better, I think the mirror was throwing everything off and not letting the eye focus on anything. The art fits it much better, and I love the dark but warm colour of the fireplace. Good job!
Looks gorgeous!! Love the choices. I’d love a video on making a frame for a canvas! My and my husband are artists and would be so helpful and less expensive! Also..my husband thinks he’s a chef so I totally get the same vibe when he’s “no cooking” and it’s so extra 😂
I personally don’t really like the new color of the fireplace, I think it clashes with the bright tile. The green chair is surprisingly lovely though, and as long as you two love it that’s what matters🩷
The chair with the pillow changed the whole look of the chair making it great whereas at first I didn't like it so I'm surprised at how big a difference the pillow makes! Also I adore the mosaic tiles you chose! So cuteee 😄
I actually really like the look of the chair! It reminds me of antiqued leather, but green! Maybe go into the seams with a slightly darker green to really bring out that antiqued, partially-sun-bleached look? Edit: love the art above the fireplace! It's cool and really brings the space together more than the mirror imo
I like how eclectic your home is feeling. In real life, spaces grow and change with us. I was totally surprised by that painting, but I love the juxtaposition of the more traditional color of the fireplace and tile with the bright painting. So cool! Thanks for taking us along on the latest iteration!
You can't please everyone! It's your place and thanks for sharing. And cheers to Elliot causing havoc in the background. And the fish he supposedly had "no time to cook and season", brought a smile to my face. Good to see more of him in your videos!
the copper looks so timeless and classic!! I like the idea of putting candles in the fireplace, you could even use battery candles bc laziness lol I feel like the copper will also be beautiful with greenery on the mantle for winter
LOVE LOVE LOVE the fireplace makeover. If you want the fire vibe without adding to your insurance or costs, just fill the fireplace with a bunch of same color but different sized candles. I did that with our old house and I may have saved our lives. We had gas heat but of course, electricity is needed to ignite the fire. Well, our electricity went out for 5 days in the dead of winter. My candle fireplace was our only source of heat and after closing off all the other rooms, it actually kept the livingroom livable. So me and 5 kids made the floor of the livingroom our bedroom and waited it out.
I'm OBSESSED with this makeover. I love the bold colour choices, the different shades of green, THE TILE. I have to be honest, I didn't like the art at first but then when the room was put together with the ottoman and the throw blanket it's like **chef's kiss**
I love that chair!! The streaks look purposeful imo. And it goes perfectly with the lime green in the painting which is also not perfectly uniform!! 💚🤍💚
I like the tile but not with this choice of color. The tile is very cottage core lattice white modern and grey and the fireplace is giving copper Spanish antique. Then with the brick inside and not the continuous tile-it’s not all coming together for me. Marble and brick sometimes just don’t flow and then you got copper brown. Just my opinion but it’s still very nice and lovely regardless! ❤
I feel like the tone of her wood floor really messed with the combo too, I don't mind the rest, but the floor is so yellow/orange toned that everything doesn't flow well with it.
i really love the art piece, it's probably my favorite thing in the room--I want a copy of it, actually. the colors, the movement, the shape...it's lovely. i love it as an artist and as an art teacher. it reminds me of a piece of fruit :)
Yaaaaaay! Tbh, this reno has been giving me life for the past few years. i believe TSG were great as I was growing up and now they take a space in my heart, even though I don’t watch them anymore 😊 but these series still has me going ❤
I have to say, I’m heart broken over the mirror, it was such a gorgeous piece! Overall I prefer the “before” but the only thing that matters really is if you and your partner like the “after” more. ❤
Although you thought it clashed, I think the vintage tile would have tied the entryway and fireplace together better. I think the tile you chose is more modern-- so it's not my favorite, but it is YOUR home and if you like it that's what matters.
The tile is SUCH an UPGRADE! I really liked the mirror, but am glad your partner loves the art so much. I like the chair before and after. I think the green brings a bit more color and goes well with the plants. I'm unsure on the ottoman, seems practical. Great work!
I think the brown of the fireplace actually makes sense for your space. Though I don't see much of that mustard yellow coming through. I like the tile. It looks great! The painting is a no for me and doesn't really go with the vibe, honestly. And I don't understand the ottoman sitting all alone in the middle of the floor. I also don't love the people in the comments disrespecting your relationship. That's uncalled for. Do agree it's your space so as long as you both like it, that's all that matters.
Throughout the video, I was like... ooohhh I'm not gonna like this one... Well..... I love it. Call me crazy! Somehow it just works. I think the finishing touches made the difference. Love the sofa!! Again, just 'fits'. Love ya Kelsey! You have incredible vision, seriously. 🤗🥰
this might be crazy.. but what if instead of painting a faux copper, what if you used copper sheets :o if you don’t plan on lighting the fireplace, i think it’d be a bold and striking move but then it’d actually be copper and would introduce a new material into the space. I think painting the fireplace hasn’t been working because it’s almost.. too much paint? like it’s too flat? the fireplace is such a large heavy piece in the room. Leaning into bolder choices is the right path but I would take it up a notch and use actual copper hahah. again, might be crazy! 🙃
I am thrilled that you did the fireplace and copper😁. Oh, I adore copper. It is my favorite metal to use in a home. I have definitely loved both colors. You painted the fireplace truly. But this is my favorite. You are so fun to watch with making over your home. it’s real and educational and just plain fun.😃

I would love a video from Rochelle explaining how to make a frame! Specially not using a table saw:)
Same!!
Yes! Maybe hand-sawing using a mitre box if necessary.
Me too!! I’d love one
Yes please! 🙏
Yes! With a hand saw.
The tile looks great. I probably would have white washed the interior of the fireplace as it's never going to be used. The copper just looks brown, in my opinion.
Totally agree about the whitewash. The dark brick was an odd choice and clashed with the tile. The brown is ... not the best
@@lovefram In my opinion, she sometimes chooses odd colors.
I was looking for this comment! The tile definitely needs a white backing. And the rest of the fireplace needs to fit the grey/white a bit more. A more muted cold tone would have been a lot better imo. Like grey, or sage green or black or light blue.
Kelsey ,you didn't need to stress. The tile is amazing!
Thank youuu
Yeee i loveee the tile
it is the only good thing about the whole process!
A vase with pink flowers on the fireplace or by the window is what i think is missing to make the artpiece a little more cohesive with the rest of this stunning room💚 you got such good style!
Yes! Agreed the mantle needs a few items
...or a brightly coloured patterned pillow. As to the colour of the fireplace, people need to remember that colours read differently on screen than in actual real life. I think the makeover is great!
I like how the chair turned out! I feel like there are so many variables in that type of application, and she knocked it out of the park!
This would be so cool! Especially if the copper/bronze was more of a true bronze and much less BROWN
Or even some deep brown-black to create more mood and texture. Love this idea!
Agreed!!!
Personally I think the mosaic tile looks like white trellis 😢 I'm sorry, I just don't like it with the giant copper fireplace. Too dainty
Your tile is lovely✨
Doing the plaster fireplace in a natural cream colour will double the space visually, and have a more seamless, organic, upscale feel.
I was also thinking of a cream color to match the tiles! That would be beautiful in my opinion
It’s not copper, it’s more brassy gold and not giving me a cohesive vibe with the tile and stained brick. Suggest painting the mantle the same as your door/window trim.
Yeah I would love either a cream or a black and maybe add a natural wood mantelpiece? I’m not sold on the whole one colour thing.
Love the tile! I think I would’ve tiled the inside as well with the same tile 🙈
Would love a frame tutorial from Rochelle! I love the added sorry girls, you all bring such great perspectives to the channel. ❤
Agree completely.
I think an old vintage gold light fixture, would look perfect there😊
I’m so addicted to your making home series.
Yep. Shows that it's worth it to try something. If it doesn't work, change it again. Makes me feel better about the mistakes I've made.
I loved the fireplace! You know what would bring a vibe? Small hanging lights. Maybe some huge candles in glass on the floor..
honestly the fireplace color isn't my favorite but I really like the tile! I feel like I'm used to copper being more reddish/orange and that copper is only brown so I'm not vibing with it, but I do like it more than the previous color. the green chair kinda looks like it's been sitting outside for a while in the sun, it's not bad! I love the ottoman's color!
I would put the ottoman closer to the chair. It looks lonely were it is. Enjoy the room.
On a completely different note “The Local Project” is my the most favorite TH-cam channel regarding everything beautiful architecture of homes❤❤❤
]There has been some bad choices with paint colors. Eg. Bathroom, the doors that Becky build, the fireplace
To be fair, I think the door color was Rachel’s fault.
I’ve never liked a single colour Kelsey has chosen. The toilet room, this fireplace, those beautiful doors Becky restored, in general I’m always just baffled with her decision but it’s her house not mine so as long as she loves it
Rochelle making the frame for the art, and the music starts.
Rad!
Rochelle did a great job in the chair! I have to agree with Elliott about the ottoman..
Not the item itself, but placement seems strange. That said, I'm not a designer, so you do you, boo! 🤩
I like the chair! Fireplace looks good 👍🏻
I want to like the color of the fireplace for you Kelsey but as long as you love it I’m happy ❤ the tile is so pretty!
Lovelovelove the art above the fireplace - much better than the mirror 😍
Kelsey has a penchant for nontraditional colors. Mad respect to the commitment & bravery behind every decision being made
I've had a lot of success painting upholstered furniture.
I really love the chair!! It almost has a stripe pattern and I love that!
So cuteee 😄
Before has its own character, and after has its own character too. The mirror off the fireplace is good because it looks so heavy to put it up!
I felt like the mirror was just too large for the wall. The balance with the art size is way better!
Teachable is the platform I chose for my courses!! Great choice!
LOVE THIS SPACE, THE CHAIR, THE FIREPLACE, THE TILE! 💚🌿
Want a frame video please &
Can't wait for media and movie space makeover!!
Kelseeeeyyyy you cannot be for real with that art.
Rochelle is so talented. Such a pro!
The art is giving Lilly Pulitzer
I love ‘The Local Project’. I watch their videos on TH-cam almost every morning. Such a peaceful way to start my day
I love everything about the new makeover except the art, but if you and Elliot love it then that’s what matters ❤
Looks great! The colors remind me of your childhood bedroom, but in a good way.
I love your Making Home episodes and honestly the longer videos you guys put out! Feels like hanging out with a friend
the copper looks so timeless and classic!! I like the idea of putting candles in the fireplace, you could even use battery candles bc laziness lol I feel like the copper will also be beautiful with greenery on the mantle for winter
Like the chair, but Elliot is on my naughty list.
Kelsey ,you didn't need to stress. The tile is amazing!. Kelsey ,you didn't need to stress. The tile is amazing!.
Debi's Design diary's DIY paint is a clay based paint you can dye furniture with, and has great green colors. That will fix the chair!❤❤❤
I love the chair Rachelle did its gorgeous
When Kelsey said “You can’t look close” and Rachelle said “as with most DIYs” I felt that in my soul! The DIY struggle is real a lot of the times.
I love that chair!! The streaks look purposeful imo. And it goes perfectly with the lime green in the painting which is also not perfectly uniform!! 💚🤍💚
Here I was hoping the fireplace would be a totally different color from previus brown 😄 as long as you like it Kelsey, you should enjoy YOUR space ❤️
I love the outcome. Painting instead of the mirror is very, very good. The colour scheme is not ordinary - thus I like it a Lot!
Love the makeover, but I loved Kelsey’s makeover with the copper hair and super flattering dark pink shirt more!
Kelsey, the color is so hip and urban....love it!!!! What a perfect step in that your entryway offers!! Congrats!!!
Your entryway makeover is going to be a game-changer! Ready for the big reveal.
The tile is great! So glad you chose the copper! I actually like the chair…it looks intentional. Love the light!
Yaaaaaay! Tbh, this reno has been giving me life for the past few years. i believe TSG were great as I was growing up and now they take a space in my heart, even though I don’t watch them anymore 😊 but these series still has me going ❤
I really like the chair! The varied tone adds interest...
I have to say, I’m heart broken over the mirror, it was such a gorgeous piece! Overall I prefer the “before” but the only thing that matters really is if you and your partner like the “after” more. ❤
Reading the comments are so interesting bc everyones' opinions are different. It just shows how individual design preference is.
So pleasantly surprised by this upload!!
It looks great. I love the ottoman and the chair. The chair looks like watercolors, which it is.
Although you thought it clashed, I think the vintage tile would have tied the entryway and fireplace together better. I think the tile you chose is more modern-- so it's not my favorite, but it is YOUR home and if you like it that's what matters.
Yes please to a 'how to make a frame' video! I'd love to frame some canvases I have.
Such a fan of your content ❤
Did Kelsey paint another thing poop brown?
and I oop…
I love the light, matches your scones . agree, candles in the fireplace would be beautiful
Ummmm, well you do what makes you happy. Not sure of the pepto bismol colored painting.
Btw, what were the two coffee table books again? One was by Architecture n Design, right? And the other? Any particular edition?
Weekend content?! Whatttt?! ❤❤❤
Loving the chair too! It looks very natural, the whole room looks great❤
I think we'll be seeing this area made over again in less than 6 months. Sorry!
i’m obsessed kelsey!!!
this might be crazy.. but what if instead of painting a faux copper, what if you used copper sheets :o if you don’t plan on lighting the fireplace, i think it’d be a bold and striking move but then it’d actually be copper and would introduce a new material into the space.
