I always put something like a wood cutting board under cookbooks on the counter. That way if you spill something, it doesn't run under the books and damage them. Learned the hard way on that one.

Love the storage solutions on R-sided wall...& of course, the arched entry.
      Still wishing for...undercabinet mounted lighting.
      (Suggest eliminating
      small Lamp...adding back
      missing Toaster/Blender for Smoothies)
Also, Not-a-Fan of Bare-Bulb-Below ceiling lights...though they do add a Fanciful touch. ( Hope they are on dimmer switch.)
Also wished for...some solution to get Microwave
      off the Refrigerator top.
      And lastly...oh PLEASE
address the Countertop which in photos appears. MORE of an eyesore with the new color scheme!
My flaw...my Critics Eye is more developed than my
      Designer/Implementers Eye.
      Nevertheless always enjoy your work!

    • built a cabinet that slides out where you placed the ikea cabinet, maximizing view and access to contents.
    • moved the refrig next to that cabinet
    • centered the stove on same wall between refrig and back wall.
    • built storage with counter tops/prep surfaces, on both sides of stove

A suggestion: it would be worthwhile to add practical items during finishing touches as well. In this case- dish soap/ toaster and blender, etc. also, its not really practical or realistic to have the utensil holder on the stove top at all times. So just a more practical approach in addition to aesthetics would be a great next step!

I LOVE Alexandra's makeovers. I liked the open shelving moment. I'm currently redoing a spare room, in my rental house, into my own 'studio space' to sleep, lounge, have a dressing room, an exercise room, and a work area that is under 160 sq. ft.. Her ideas have helped me design the best usage of space as well as space saving storage, finding the priorities with your space, and ways to express yourself without overwhelming the space. Alexandra has also helped me make a bold color choice for an accent wall. She's also taught me that it's okay to break 'big space' decorating rules to accommodate my small space and even smaller budget.
I'm planning to make a video and post it when I'm finished, highlighting my "Alexandra Gater Inspired" design. Please keep the videos coming Alexandra. Your ability to have a new vision for old, tight, small spaces is incredible.

  • @EtherealBlueRainbow
    @EtherealBlueRainbow ปีที่แล้ว +4

    - The color of the tile is a lot of fun!
    - I love the closed storage for all the note pretty stuff like brooms.
    - Those open shelves don't use space, so they don't make the small space more narrow if that makes sense.
    - I am not the biggest fan of the yellow, but that's a personal preference. I would have gone with a sage green situation. It was still a good choice to continue the color behind the appliances. The white was making the place look unfinished before.
    - I would have added a narrow cart on wheels with stuff needed to cook, between the 2 appliances, but one with a full plank on the visible side, to create an almost closed storage situation (I have an open one like she had before in the corner & it often goes over my clutter threshold even though things are in order). I hesitate to paint the face the same color as behind to camouflage or white to create an appliances level. It would depend on the height of the cart. If it was the same height as the stove, white, otherwise, camouflage it is.
    - If it was me, the first thing I would have done on getting the space back would have been to move the books to the shelves, as far away as possible from the water (too stressful people!) and created a full smoothie station on the countertop, where I would actually make said smoothies, while making sure I have to move things as little as possible (every sec I waste in the morning is a sec less I sleep, stuff has to be minimal & streamlined, I refuse to take more than a 1/2h for prep in the morning). I would also leave enough counter space for the actual prep next to the jars.

Almost anyplace that’s a rental usually don’t let you replace things like that. And with the high cost of replacing them to boot, it’d be pointless to replace it in a rental since you wouldn’t be able to take it with you.

Although there are many beautiful aspects to this kitchen. I always like the decor. The arch is amazing!! And those shelves are beautiful!! Unfortunately, on camera it kind of looks like u added a red brick backsplash...I'm sure it's prettier in person. Also, I guess in my mind the 3 areas I thought would make such a huge difference if changed weren't changed i.e. the counter, the floor & the walls being another color - clearly I had expectations! lol! But Alana seemed to really be happy - that's all that matters!!

What a great kitchen makeover, that arch is a game-changer and those Moroccan tiles are simply gorgeous. Excellent storage solution with that Ikea cabinet that can hold even mops and vacs along with cleaning supplies. Pretty shelves, art and decor, great color combo for walls, and cabinets warm up the space. The lighting is light and feminine and oh so pretty, which suits the overall feel of the space, soft, clean, simple. Beautiful - great job!

Omg you knocked this out oft the park Alexandra!!! The kitchen looks so so so nice! I love the tile, the cabinets, the arch!!! Everything looks incredible!!!!
The only thing I would add for functionality is add another shelf to the wall, a little deeper one (maybe as deep as the ikea cabinet? And in an organic shape taperd towards the other end) at counter height! That way she can put her mixer on it and actually use all of her smoothie bowl stuff there without bringing every item seperateley to the other side of the kitchen. Also the trashcan would still fit since the shelf obviously does not take up any floor space. It could be her little breakfast nook 😊 and give her a little more room to put things so she has more space on her counters to actually prepare food
