I have tons of suggestions to improve Elgato Workflow. I am loving everything about it, and i am pretty sure i am not alone of course 😂 One single thing i would love to see is instancing buttons. When we copy a button (right click) we could have an option to paste as a instance, or reference, Very similar with what we have in OBS. That way i could change a single button, and the same change will reflects all over my pages and profiles. Like a internal library of references. Now, when i decide to change the color of a button that i have copied too many times, is very time consuming to go over all pages and profiles to change it. If the buttons could be treated as single assets referenced in a setup file internally, that would be VERY handy ! But it should be optional (like in OBS) i could just PASTE things or PASTE REFERENCE things.

I am starting with my Streamdeck. I realize that folders can't have pages inside, so it's good for a limited set of buttons but you can use almost all of them (need to save want to get out from folder). So i am using Profiles to put shortcuts for each software, so one profile per software i use. That way i can have all features just for shortcuts, like pages, etc. I am also using the left column to repeate the same buttons across some profiles, so i can jump between them faster. This gives me less function keys per page, but it's less annoying than navigating all the way to other pages.

A way to think of it is that Profiles contain Pages, Pages contain Folders. In a sort of hierarchy. One profile per program is definitely the most common way to setup Stream Deck we find.
I keep a "Next Profile" action on the bottom right of my Stream Deck XL and I can rotate through all my profiles quickly.

@@ElgatoWorkshop Thans for the insight. At first i thought that flipping to folders would be quickier (faster response), but turns out that i can't see a difference jumping into new profiles than jumping on folders, so a started to use profiles instead of folders everywhere. Another downside to folder (for me) is that it ALWAYS locks the first icon for the Back button. So that's an extra bonus to use profiles, since i can use all buttons and even use the first button as BACK, but fully customizable. That's why i don't see a reason anymore to use folders, even making sense as a hierarchal thing. I will keep using and customizing mine to see if i see a specific use for folders as they are now. A single reason to use folders is to do simpler Self contained profiles, so everything is on a single file not spreaded over many profiles which can become overwhelming to manage.

Ooh this was informative.. starting to use the folders now. Also I know that I can easily use and change profiles. Big help! Thanks!

I am back. So i found some PROs about folders. I can copy the entire folder quick to different pages. (ok, i can copy a Switch Profile button to have the same functionality. The good thing i see about Profiles is related with my suggestion on another post. Profiles works as Dynamic References. When i change a profile i am changing it for all places where i can that profile. It's not the same with folders. If i change the content of a folder and i have copies of it around, i need to change all the copies. 🤔But anyway, i am still using folders for when i need a to call just a few buttons from a UI/page.

Will you please create a tutorial on how to launch an app that doesn't have an .exe extension? I was instructed by one of your moderators on Reddit to create a .bat file but haven't been able to get it to work (even looked for it in your online help file but couldn't find any info there on how to do this). ~Thanks

We will add this to our topic list. Some apps definitely make it tough to open them and we want to make some resources on that.

What are the maximum number of pages in a profile?
Is it better to use folders or pages?
How many pages can a folder have?

    • @ElgatoWorkshop

      Hi Michael.
Up to 10 pages per profile.
Pages vs Folder is entirely up to you. Navigating pages is very simple with Stream Deck + by swiping on the touchstrip. But for other devices like Stream Deck XL, Folders may work better for you.

Hi sorry if I’m asking it here, but since the video’s topic is about it, how do you switch between pages on the Stream Deck’s App on the iPad/iPhone? I’m only able to wait here them from the Desktop Mac App and it’s not the best since you use the mobile as an actual pjosical Steam Deck to control the Mac. Thanks for answering and if this feature isn’t there it would be handy to have it on the mobile apps. Thanks

      Hi there,
For Pages on iPhone or iPad, you can place Next/Previous Page actions onto the iPhone/iPad. You can find these in the Navigation category. I see that we could have made this section clearer. Apologies for any confusion.
If you dedicate two keys on your device, you can place forward and back keys on those keys inside of every page and it will let you scroll through every page easily.

BTW i just found a weird bug. I had to replace my Streamdeck by a new one and when i plugged the new unit on my computer it asked to copy the old streamdeck to the new device, i said ok, everything seems visually ok, but all the links for profiles (Switch to profile) were broken. They point to wrong profiles, so i have to relink them all.

Dials are not currently used for scrolling through folders or pages in Stream Deck. Are you currently finding folders to be confusing to navigate?

      Hi ViVaLaRan,
You may just need to update your software: e.lga.to/download Pages were introduced a couple years a go.

      Hi K B,
keyboard functions aren't able to change profiles. But we'll forward your suggestion over to our team.

So let's say my Stream Deck + decides to give up the ghost. Where and how can I back up my pages so I can easily import them to a new Stream Deck unit?
