I worked in Polk County in Auburndale back in 2001 and again in 2002 and listened to Bubba on a daily basis. I loved that guy. I even got one of his CD’s with many of his bits on there.
Hearing all these old stories make me so sad. I love Howard so so so much and 1998-2010. Howard is possibly the most special person in the entertainment industry and when he is gone 40 years of the best entertainment will just simply be over. I think people don’t give him enough credit. Politically I don’t agree with a lot of what he says and he is in no way the same Howard stern king of all media but he is still a GOD in the industry.
Howard was fake! It was all a lie! Wiggy was always an elitist, and a left wing hack. He somewhat hid it, but constantly talking about therapy, Dancing with The Stars, gay stuff every day, cross dressing on book covers, then finally getting in with the celebrity crowd, and turning his back on his fans. Working 2-3 days a week for $100 million a year? F Howie!
Didnt you know that an employer is bound to his co-workers and employees in perpetuity? It's a law that if you make it big you have to take everyone with you and keep everyone on the payroll.
Vince McMahon didn't have a vision Howard Stern and his story are intimately tied to ratings, and I can tell you straight up that ratings for radio are b*******. I genuinely don't know why he made how they do ratings a part of his movie. It's the same thing with Nielsen for TV, which plays into Vince McMahon's story Monday Night War. But as much as I ride on Nielsen for being worse than polling in every way as far as accuracy, radio did their ratings by books. And there were God knows how many people that actually was who were paid to write down. Periodically what radio stations they were listening to for what period of time. Then those people would turn in their book to some Nielsen type organization responsible for advertisers getting radio numbers, then after they tallied up who listened to what for what period of time, then they would publish those things as the radio ratings. It was purely advertiser fodder. So it did nothing outside of provide advertisers with figures is to see where they wanted to spend their money on ads. But it wasn't accurate. I don't know how it could be accurate. Because basically if 100 people in any given Market, let's say New York, in order to be able to actually get the numbers to publish them for the ratings. They couldn't have been sorting through a thousand books in order to come up with who listen to what for however long. So we're talking about maybe 100 people writing down what their favorite shows they were listening to they wrote time stamps on there. And they supposedly were writing down when they change the station during a commercial and then when they switched it back. Absolute ridiculous garbage like that. So you basically know in my opinion that most of the people were not actually doing that but they were just writing things down to get paid. The Nielsen homes were very similar situation. Where you got about a hundred households. And they get a little box that monitors what they watch. But the amount of homes that they have were minuscule compared to the actual number of people who are watching things. So when you see the Nielsen ratings that are still published to this day and they tell you 10 million people watched something, they don't know how many people watched anything. I It simply gives figures for advertisers to look at and see where they want to invest their money. I argue strongly that Vince McMahon nwcw had quadruple the viewers then what Nielsen reported because if you go look in 1998 WCW sold out arenas, basketball stadiums, everywhere they went and so did the WWF in all 50 states and overseas. We're talking 40 50,000 people regularly on a consistent basis whether it was a basketball arena in Iowa or Wisconsin Oregon Texas california. There's a famous match from when WCW was supposedly bad and WWF had taken over popularity supposedly where it's a match between Goldberg and Scott Steiner and it's in Sacramento California. And they are in Arena that is packed and hyped and it's like a southern wrestling territory from the '80s. And it was that way for a while until like mid-2000s. But they would get rating totals that said like 3 million people were watching each show. The reality is the most people in 1997 1998 1999 2000 who were in school like I was in elementary school remember almost everybody watching wrestling it was must see TV particularly for kids and teenagers and you got to look at how many people there were in the United States and way more people had cable back then on average. And yet they never drew the type of viewership that the NFL or Monday Night Football got. But everybody with brains knew did everybody was watching that. That's the reason that 10-15 years later, you've got all these professional athletes who virtually all watched pro wrestling growing up. So many UFC fighters model their career after Pro wrestlers. From that time and it was because that was the biggest s*** anywhere. Steve Austin was his big of a star in the United States as Brad Pitt or somebody like that. Whereas now those guys are nowhere near the popularity if they going to show people have to explain that oh this is the WWF guy remember Steve Austin and The Rock And I used to argue it was bigger than than it was in the 80s. But the reality is that the numbers are all cooked. Because it's not intended to actually be real listenership or viewership totals it's just estimates for advertisers to see where they want to put their money but it used to be presented in the newspapers as real viewing figures the way that opinion polling data works. If you look at opinion polls, there was a pole that came out a decade ago in Alabama that said they were trying to get numbers of how many people in Alabama supported same-sex marriage, if something like 80% or 75% or so we're against gay marriage in alabama, but in the same poll they asked him if they supported interracial marriage and it was like 55% of registered Republicans in Alabama were against interracial marriage. What's that statistic may be right, hey just wild for when the poll is taken. But then if you just look at the pole fine print it'll tell you that they asked a thousand people what they thought and there's 3 million people in the state. So a thousand people out of 3 million doesn't actually give you accurate data because 1000 people they could have asked could have been from particular areas in the state where the people are more backward, or whatever. And the thing with ratings is is they select the household and the people who they want to get the data from. So they could be selecting a particular type of people that's not representative of the population at large. So all of Howard Stern success was based on the books. And who knows if the books were representative of what the public liked or not. The main thing was with stern was that he was a publicity w****. He was a publicity horror and the books loved him. And he went after the books and he tried to manipulate the people who did the books. He was very much a power broker and did it explicitly
