Might as well call all this what it is. We all loved Howard Stern, and can’t wrap our heads around the fact that in reality, he’s just a coldhearted bastard. End of story.
Brent is still thinking about the future. To find Memhet and Wilding interesting means where the hell did you grow up, a place where you keep records on you’re Checkers matches.
As a guy who listened to the H.S.S. as a kid, from back in the days when he was on Wnbc radio, when Jackie Martling was still just an occasional GUEST, I can tell you that the show peaked around the time the books & movie Private Parts was being promoted & subsequently released (1996-97). One of the first & biggest mistakes Howard made was getting rid of the incredibly talented Billy West due to wanting to cut the budget of the show, despite the ENORMOUS success & commercial attention it had attracted up until then, & firing West from staff because Stern did NOT value his talent, or the amazing contribution he made up until that time. If you can fnd Stern's interview with Conan O'Brien & 'The Jackie puppet' (operated by West) from that time (mid - late 90s) make sure you have a 2nd pair of underwear to change into after you finish pissing yourself from laughing so hard! As a one time die hard fan, I stuck it out even after Hypocrite Howie began replacing female guests (eg. strippers & porn stars; the people he literally built his core fan base on) with those idiots, Sal & the hillbilly guy, doing ridiculous 'tea bagging' bits. This change in format started "COINCIDENTALLY" around the time his daughters aged to a point where they could actually listen & fully comprehend what was happening on the show. The final nail in the coffin for me was the departure of Artie Lange. Which in all fairness SEEMED to have nothing to do with Stern & who Artie has said 'tried to help him out of his addiction(s) in everyway humanly possible.' However, I believe this was actually karmic retribution for all the poor choices & directions H.S. had made for the show. I found out later it was a good choice to stop listening because the few times I returned to the show AFTER Artie had left, I couldn't even get through a full hour of the show. Ironically, an interview with Lange on the Opie radio show (a show I NEVER would've listened to, or would've watched as a 'true Stern fan' back in the day; because they were 'Stern knockoffs') brought me here because of the mention of the woman's name who apparently buried the show, @ the start of the interview. I can't say I'm really surprised the show nosedived so badly. Since the H.S.S. introduced that "Top 10" songs b.s. back after the show peaked, I saw the writing on the wall. Stern had tasted the fame, adoration & most importantly the $$$ of the mainstream & was following the path all obedient sycophants & tools of the elites take, absolute compliance. Some say it's ironic that the guy who went to "war" against the F.C.C. became such a complicit authoritarian & is now apparently also against free speech, but those who listened closely knew Hypocrite Howie was hiding in there all along. It's a shame for the fans, but I'm glad he was finally exposed for being just another corporate tool that's been lying to us all the entire time.
Only a few show moments I can think of worth mentioning after 2009 although there may be more and all I believe pre 2013: Fitzsimmons requesting Howard to write his forward. Hurricane Sandy. Making fun of Tom Hanks Son. Shuli baby clothes drama. Ronnie's block party/Scott unhappy. Notice none of these involved " A list guests". I honestly can't think of anymore but definitely started to tune out around 2010.
Yea no you’re speaking your own personal anecdote. The show was at an all time high overall right before the satellite deal and all the way through around 2012. The strippers was getting old, and listeners found staff and friends of the show segments to be way better. The bits were so much better too. It seems like his following shrunk after the serius merger but Howard didn’t have a TH-cam channel yet so fan channels took views away. Also, Howard didn’t let Artie back for Artie’s own good. That show was toxic for Artie. It was just enabling his toxicity and Artie said this many times while on the show and we just wrote it off as entertainment.
I stopped listening to Howard when his schedule changed and he was taking a lot of random days off and a lot of repeat shows were being played. I do remember that with every contract negotiation with Sirius Howard was asking for more money and less work days. I am unsure if Marci was there or if this was before she came onboard.
