As a South Indian, this geography type questions were the study topics during Lower primary school and it's a bloody shame to the society if we answer it wrong
We used to memorize all the countries of Asia and their locations in 7th standard
For 12th standard, I took European History and I studied all the little countries in the Slavic region, but the average American person doesn't know even every state in America

I’ve got to say this questionnaire had a lot better results than many other map identification questionnaires I’ve seen on other channels before. A lot more on this got the questions correct which is a ‘relief’ and many other people who got them both right and wrong, actually considered the lack of knowledge and the issues behind it and where they can improve. Plus the issues that are in American education and ignorant self isolationism in the first place. Even though many people to get the questions wrong, a lot more got them right than the previous ones and good to know they will try and use it as an opportunity to improve. Thanks to big Asian movie and series releases on streaming platforms though, hopefully this will also encourage other people to improve their knowledge of Asian countries. As a European though, I can still see that America has a long long long way to go.
Reminds me of an old joke:

And people from Asian nations don't know anything about the Americas. So it's pretty balanced. Most are shocked to learn Canada, Mexico and Brazil are American nations. Honestly it really makes me sad that here in America we don’t learn about these sorts of things very much in school, and therefore just not much in general. Personally, I’ve recently started to take an interest in geography and I think it’s genuinely really interesting and also interesting to kind of look a little into the stories of countries and know a little about each of them
You do learn these things in school lol.
School does suck in the US but don’t blame the ignorance on school. Anyone can learn geography on their own without relying on school to teach it to them. Typical excuse Americans use to justify their lack of knowledge
As someone with two kids in college in the US, I can say that American public schools just don't teach geography any more. This drives me crazy. I literally bought a world map and hung it in my kids' playroom when they were young and then taught them myself.

I like this video because unlike many others on TH-cam, it's not just making fun of Americans' ignorance, but asking them for the reason why they don't know about Asia, and their answers were very intelligent and insightful. And these people are actually not that bad , they know China and Japan, it just surprised me many didn't know where Korea was.
Because Korea wasn’t even that popular back in the days
China and Japan is known for their ancient history
This, like Jay Leno's survey, shows people don't read and understand maps and also are incurious about other countries. Even though I have come to have an interest in Asia and world history, a big thing was I always had maps on my wall as a kid. If this is representative, I must be some sort of geek. I also ended up traveling, which most people don't do, probably as a result of my sense of adventure and wonder growing up. I learned to love maps and how to read them from National Geographic and Boy Scouts. I learned curiosity and acceptance of other cultures from my parents. I guess those are things of the past. Still sometimes when I see these videos, I think they show only the less informed people (yours is more balanced) or I marvel how these people hid from the knowledge all around them. The same with science subjects. I see maps like books. people please READ them, you'll be so amazed.

(I know it’s a state in US, it’s just that some think it’s a country)
@@markuspark5128 never heard people say a r i z o n a is a country
I’m willing to bet even American kpop fans don’t actually know where South Korea is
I agree. Kpop fans are only interested in Kpop, not interested in country itself, culture, its people at all.
@@tachinrikka2322 They're not interested even in there social lives, or literally anything in general...
my non-asian kpop friends seem to think south korea is the only asian country 😔
Not even close to true.
agreed. k pop fans are mostly hormonal stupid teenagers, so yea
As someone who could've gotten literally every country they asked, this hurts my soul.
As a South African I can say for now at school we have only learnt about South Africa, yes that’s it.
Americans: Asian countries are only China, Japan, Korea
North Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Middle East, Central Asia: K. Bye
Nothing to say north asia,
Unfortunatly some Asians even don't consider middle east in Asia. Egypt and some other countries are in Africa but others are in WEST of Asia
Dream land saudi arabia is not in Africa but egypt is
@@pioneer5400 yes ,you're right
@mbah google tw is not a country
I moved from South Korea to Seattle in my 4th grade, and kids asked me whether there is TV in where I came from
lol i'm asian too and i would tell "what the h-"
lmao
Sad, funny but sad
Well i guess they don't have Samsung TVs in their home. Or maybe LG haha
Lmao, gotta say "Your tv probably comes from my country"
glad they showed all 'contestants' and didn't just edit for comedic effect, you can see many people have an idea of where something generally is (or that korea is on a peninsula, they just point to the wrong peninsula), and there was even one guy that got 8/8, but there's certainly just as many that had no clue and needed their friends help
Thank you, this was an honest video. I was sick of fakes where they ask 100 people but show the worst five
