I just bought a 1990 F150 manual spd, 4.9L, and it had only 64K on it. Its looks really sharp but some rust on it makes me think that it could have more like 164K. Anyways, I got it up to 55 to 60 on a test drive and it shakes. I wanted to get it in for a front end alignment and had an appt, but the machine they said was broke down. So Went to oil change, and while there they checked air in tires. and I believe that helped some of the shaking. So now I am thinking the tires need to be balanced, I do know that has a lot to do with shaking too if a tire is bad or not balanced. So Thanks for the video.< beautiful there but too cold!
Good video. My 2017 F150 is currently feeling the same way. I haven't had time to bring up up to my mechanics yet, but very soon. I'm hoping my issue is as simple to address as this one. Thanks for sharing.
We should start a club for this shudder problem.2020 xlt 2.7 3000kms. I've had 3 visits to 2 different dealers. First visit they did a force balance. didn't solve it. Second visit they said to drive it till it got worse(wtf?). Contacted ford canada and they said to get a another dealer to test. Third visit the technician confirmed the vibration/shudder but that is was a characteristic of the truck. We then drove another brand new truck on the lot which had the same vibration fell as mine. So ya, guess I can pound sand cause that is how "they all drive". My vibration now seems to have gone from just felling it at around 75kph to feeling it and lower speeds too. It is still the same rpms which is 1500-1800 rpm. A mechanic suggested it could be engine related. The truck is also not getting the rated fuel economy. I'm getting 12.9L/100. Should be 11.8. Not a heavy foot but since I've discovered this vibration I could be just fishing for it and causing the truck to run in this state which certainly could the cause of the bad fuel mileage. I have a file with ford canada and they know I'm pissed but because the vibration is part of the trucks driving character I'm stuck with it. Selling/trading is not an option as I do not feel like taking a $8-10000 hit. Really want to like this beast but my ocd won't let me.
My 2010 F150 ....brand new (maybe 2000 miles). Enroute to VA from NC on I 64. Truck started to vibrate badly. Found a Ford dealer at next exit. Bad coil pack. Vibration so bad I stopped twice checking for a flat tire. Now......mileage is 89,000 vibration starts. After truck is driven less than 25 miles at high speed. When truck has not been driven then parked like going to the dentist, vibration starts when going home. Figured the same plug pack failure. Just in case , took the truck to a local totally honest mechanic I have known for 20;years. He drove it for less than 5 miles on back county roads. All the time complaining of breakers dragging. Calipers have a vibration, pedal is almost to the floor. He took a laser temperature of the front calipers. 1 was 525 degrees F. The other over 600 degrees. He believes the calipers are not resetting when the pedal is released . He has the truck until he can either turn the calipers or replace as he does not have a tool to turn them on the vehicle. We will see. Will up date this comment as soon as the planned repair/replacement is completed. Will also report his billing. Wish me luck. JoeB
It's been about three months since we last talked. I have fount my problem with my 2014 ford f150 with the shake at highway speeds . I took my truck the shop 1 and they said my balance is off . So I got it fixed so they said. I left and a day later still have the problem. Took it to shop 2 and got it fixed again they said the balance was way off. Got fixed again. I left again same problem a day or so later. I went to put air in my tire and noticed a small screw in my tire. Got that fixed and my problem went away all because of a small screw that no one seen . Figured I get back you on this problem.
I picked up a used 2015 from the dealer a month ago and this is exactly what my tailgate is doing. Mine is a 3.5 non-eco. BUT tailgate bounces around exactly the same as you showed.
@@SureRon I did. Even though I don't have the '15 anymore, I found it out one afternoon while trying to narrow it down. Snugged up bolts underneath that I thought it could be. Plastic trim I thought was loose or rubbing and nothing. Wasn't until I got frustrated while getting up from under the bed, and I grabbed the tailgate itself to pull myself up and it squeaked right away. Other than figuring out that that tailgate had to be shut, not slammed good, the rubber bushings that made contact with the tailgate to the bed and the hard plastic insulators that the tailgate actually catches when shut were the cause of the squeaking. Once I had lubed them up with silicone paste, it never made another sound after that. When I got my '19 F150, the first thing I did was lube up the tailgate bushings and insulators, never had a squeal from it, even over a year of owning it now.
Maybe i had the same problem, my Expedition vibrates at 50 M/h in the front, but first i’m gona clean the weels on the inside becouse i saw they have a lot of dirt stick to them, thanks for you video!!! Hi from Tijuana Mexico Friend!!!
I have a slight vibration at 30 and 60 mph. It feels like you are driving on worn rumble strips. All of the research I have done only returned one fix. The issue was noted as the rear carrier assembly being out of spec with excessive tolerances. Unfortunately, I have not had a Ford dealership willing to take on the task of checking the tolerances in the carrier sssembly.
This could be your torque converter. I thought for the longest time it was to do with my tires, turned out to be torque converter. When the shudder starts, let off the gas, then accelerate at a faster rate. The gear gets stuck and won’t lock in.
The main engine wire harness always breaks at the coil connector. This means coils not happy. Coils not happy spark is off. Ford and Harley-Davidson have spark on the exhaust stroke and the intake stroke. No wonder, with a lean burn engine.
Shake at 40-50 mph has new u joints, carrier bearing, tires, shocks and brakes diff has been serviced smooth as a skateboard otherwise. Still can’t figure it out.
Thanks for the great video, I like you went to a bunch of blogs and read all kinds of stuff and a lot of people seem to think that it has to do with the driveline, my 2010 F150 only has 60,000 miles and runs great but it has a vibration somewhere around 40 to 45 miles an hour nothing terrible but still noticeable and after reading so many people tell me that the tires and rims were not the problem I was inclined to think the driveshaft might be out of balance or came from the factory not properly balanced who knows? I’m sure will probably go ahead and get the tires and rims balanced just to make sure that’s not it, but it seems like it would do it at other speeds also if it was that in my mind, doesn’t do it at speeds higher or lower just 40 to 45 mph.
This sounds exactly what was happening with my F150. Turned out to be the torque converter. When the shudder starts, let off the gas for it to stop, then accelerate at a faster rate to get the gear to lock in. If you find that this stops the vibration by accelerating faster thru that gear, you may be able to just replace the torque converter without having to do a rebuild.
Pretty well all the f150s from 04 and up did that people all thought it had to do with the transmission but yup slow gradual incline in the highest gear right at the threshold before the down shift once it downshifts the rpm climbs and it goes away
My 17 3.5 shakes, more like a wobble though. 2 sets of new tires with tons of static and road force balances, new shocks, multiple alignments.. at 80mph you can see the steering will move up and down. Dealership was worthless after having it for over a month with no answers.

So I'm going to go back to have them look at it again.

The scenery looks amazing out there.
Remember the movie My Cousin Vinny. The guys says “ you got mud in the tires”
Good video. My 2017 F150 is currently feeling the same way. I haven't had time to bring up up to my mechanics yet, but very soon. I'm hoping my issue is as simple to address as this one. Thanks for sharing.
Did you find a fix?
Nice truck. Looks cold. Resonant frequency! You and I talked about it often. Surprised you didn’t suspect the wheels from the get go.

Do you have an update Joseph?
Update on this possibly?
So annoying right!? Let us know if you get this sorted. Good luck.
Did you ever figure it out?
My Cadillac XT5 was doing the same thing, was told it was becasue my tires weren't rated to go that fast....didn't know that was a thing.
Same issue. Going to go that route with the dealer first. I’ll see what they say. Thank you.
Maybe i had the same problem, my Expedition vibrates at 50 M/h in the front, but first i’m gona clean the weels on the inside becouse i saw they have a lot of dirt stick to them, thanks for you video!!! Hi from Tijuana Mexico Friend!!!
Thank you. This video definitely gave me more of an idea of what I should be looking for
Nice Video. Funny too, man you Canadians ARE polite, ha ha. subscribed.
You deserve more subs man!, very cool and respectful video!, 👍
Sierv I appreciate that Sierv. Thanks for watching man. 👊
Just wanted to say thanks I have this problem at about 45 and again at about 60 so thanks for the video
i have a 2007 f150 4wd and it will vibrate when i go 55 as if i’m riding on side of the road
Have 2008 and mine vibrates at 50 to 55 and stops when above 60.
did you fix your truck?
I’m pretty sure your truck has dual port/direct injection. Anyways, solid video dude. Peace.
Good vid! I wonder if a guy sprays the inside of the wheel with silicon every so often to keep crud out would work?
The main engine wire harness always breaks at the coil connector. This means coils not happy. Coils not happy spark is off. Ford and Harley-Davidson have spark on the exhaust stroke and the intake stroke. No wonder, with a lean burn engine.
I love highway 93. Beautiful drive!
Thanks for the video it’s the snow causing the shake from out truck F150
Oh man that sucks Trey. Comb through the comments on this video because there's quite a bit of info from other commenters.
did you fix your truck?
I have the same problem on my 2014 f150 and it starts around 55 60mph to maybe 70. I'm going to take it and Rebalance the wheels. I hope this helps its driving me crazy. Thank you for the info.
You find the problem? My 2012 f150 feels like it’s swaying and feels like the wind it pushing it left to right around 80kmh, feels like the left back wheel is shaking or something
@@loverboy824 Don't know yet I did balance the wheels they was way off they said . I had them put the weights on the inside of the wheels. I looked at the weights just yesterday to make sure they still there . Because the back driver side wheel seems to shake. I think the weights fell off . So I'm going to go back to have them look at it again.
@@soulblade8965 ya the back driver side is shaking for me too cause the rest of the truck to wanna sway, I take mine in tomorrow I’ll let you know if they end up fixing it
So how's your truck ? They tell you anything ?
@@soulblade8965 I got a 4 wheel rotation , they changed my tire weights and I have a level kit on my truck they said the front was higher than the back causing sway, not sure what they did but it drives much better now still slight vibration (probably my off road tires) but the swaying is gone
Having the same problem with my truck. Its a 2013 f150 stx that i inherited from my grandfather who passed away from cancer. Driving to work one day and on the highway about 50-65 i can see the front kinda bouncing a bit, once i go past 70 it "fixes" itself...gonna try and take it somewhere on monday
Thanks for video. I will subscribe and get back with you after I check my 94 out. It shakes the you know what out of dash at speed between 40-50mph only. It's good before and after
Why is nobody checking the front driveshaft?
Like your presentation you keep it real.
That's the best compliment ever. Appreciate it man. Thanks for watching.
Snowpack and sludge was my problem. No carwashes open in last 3 weeks, or this probably never would have been a problem. But it is colder with more snow this year than any other year in my lifetime--and I was born before Al Gore invented global warming...and the Internet.
What if it's not the tires. We have done everything you have and it still is shaking at 65mph and up
I have this happing with my 3.5 I think it’s the tires needing balanced
I just bought a 2021 Ford F-150 Xlt and I absolutely love the truck but it vibrates!! I can feel it in the pedal and the seat. I hope it’s just a out of balance tire. I only have 800 miles on this truck!!
Sounds like the exact problem I had! I’ve been led to believe that it was likely the rear diff causing my issues. Let us know on here if you ever get it sorted!
@@DIGIT9 I’ll keep you updated! Thanks for the Great info!
Did you find out the problem?
That's a sweet ride!
I have a tire vibration on my 17 f150 2.7 it has aftermarket fuel wheels with all terrain tires. I have not been able to figure out why it’s happen. Almost brand new wheels and tires, no dirt, tires balanced and rotated. It feels like my rims are bent. I put hub rings on to cater to the different hub size for aftermarket tire, it did nothing it shakes still maybe even worse. I have been trying to diagnose this problem for 6 months. I’ve taken it to 3 mechanics. Everyone says it drives fine but I feel like the wheels are about to fly off it’s driving me completely insane.
Did you fix it?
I got to get mine to a wheel specialist because mine shake really bad around 50MPH as you said tailgate bounce up & down that is what mine is doing & I have 2006 Ford F-150 RWD though.
I have a 2007 that does the same. Did the wheel balance fix yours too?
@@resurrectionauto670 Only some time & goes out of balance again...My father mentions something wheel balancer forgot the name so got get the name again it's a part...
Can I test it in neutral
I have 2008 Ford F150 4.2 L 61000 miles w/ knock at high speed on hills. Straight aways are okay. The manual recommends to use 87 fuel only- It says not to use premium fuel if a problem they recommend to use different brand. Can I use Premium fuel without damage to truck I'm used to using premium on all my cars since 1980's. Any thoughts?.
i have an 01 f150, it shakes very very bad at around 45-55 mph then goes away after 55, could this be the same issue you had? my shaking is so bad my front wheels feel like they're hoping lol. thanks
I'm commenting just because he made me laugh when talking about the commenting his video.. 😂 👍
I’m having the same issue on my 2014. I’ve been to three tire shops, they tell me the tires and balanced and ok.
I’ll try swapping fronts to the rear etc and see if that fixes it. It’s driving me crazy. Only bounces at 90kmph and again at 130.
And only since fitting new tires in august!
What fixed it?
@@SupportThe0ppositeNPC its not fixed - still. and rotated the tires also. Im gonna assume its the tires themselves and buy a new set at some point soon. I even checked wheel bearings but they are fine also.
@@johnmarsland3442 did you find the problem?
I had the same problem but the dealership said it was the drive shaft and it's under warrantee. Take it back.
It's worse after a carwash when ice gets caught in the wheel
Cool I never thought about the ice build up after a carwash thx 👍🇨🇦
I got a road force balancing but my 2.7 is still cutting out going up small grades like a I miss fire.. vibration is gone though.
Hello I have a 1993 Ford F-150 5.8L xlt 4x4. My question since I have a older model and my truck shakes from the steering wheel and the trucks dash when I hit 40 mph, then 60 mph and driving at a slight incline. (Balanced and rotation already done) still shakes. Please can you help me? Thank you for your time
P.S. my wife and I enjoyed your humor in your videos.
Same thing as mine man, u ever figure it out?
Just an update, I think my shake is back. Gonna go for a rebalance again and see what happens. Stay tuned.
Did you find out anything new?
Did the rebalance fix the the issue?
Walker Williams well it fixed it at around 60mph but the vibration just moved to 70mph now. Do you have the wrangler tires?
DIGIT9 I think I have been chasing the same thing on my 15 5.0 I have replaced the u-joints and balanced the driveshaft. Swapped tires. Replaced diff and transfer case fluid. Still shaking though... I’m looking into the diff internals next. Mine is most noticeable when cruising at highway speed and giving it just a little more gas or cruising and hitting a hill. I drove without the rear driveshaft and the truck felt perfect.
@@motofreak2772 Oh that's super interesting to drive without the driveshaft. Ford basically told me it was normal drive train vibration for a 4x4. So I got rid of the vibration once and for all. I'm no longer driving a Ford

I damn sure wish I could find an ethical mechanic, esp. since being a woman, a Grammy has led to some lousy things. Thank you for the enjoyable informative presentation, from the Willamette Valley Oregon.. I find, that the coolest people always seem to be from Canada :)
You learn more by the process of elimination..(I tell myself)
Im going to get my tires balanced; if not that then the new brake calipers may be the culprit.. really, much thanks
Thanks for the video. I’ve got a vibrator also
Thanks for the informative video. Who makes those boots, if you don't mind me asking?
Hey thanks for watching. We actually have a video about those boots here: th-cam.com/video/qkXTTGEZXy8/w-d-xo.html
Oh, and they are made by Motorfist.
To whoever has a 6 speed or 10 speed with these vibration issues on cruising speeds and have thrown money around to try balancing wheels, changing driveshafts, etc etc, try buying a lil red tube/bottle of "instant shudder fixx" from a local parts store or order online.. i was doubting that little shitty small tube would do anything but lo and behold i filled it up into the trans and the shuddering stopped after 20 minutes of driving around to get it all mixed in and went to highway driving and alas! No more rumble strips! i'm starting to think ford engineers don't know a thing about putting together that thing that goes between the flywheel and driveshaft... for years we've all heard, been teased about what *FORD* means.. built tough my ass.. only good while it's in warranty and good luck with that too!! lmao
Love you buddy.
just got a 2020....same engine as yours...2.7.....xlt....4x4....2000km on it.....just realized that at about 100kph on the highway when I accelerate it feels like the engine shudders/vibrates/shakes! when I take my foot back off the pedal after accelerating and coasting it seams to stop....so motor? Does not do it at lower speeds....I guess I'll have to bring her in! Cheers
Yo Jason keep me posted if you figure anything out. I noticed the same thing...but just when it’s slightly under load in 10th. Now at 120 it really shakes. Do you have a tonneau cover? I’m starting to think mine shakes less with the tonneau on.
mine does this. Any fix? Thinking of changing the shocks. heard Bilstein 5100 are huge upgrade from stock shocks
Yeah I fixed mine for good. I'm no longer driving a Ford.
DIGIT9 the problem with getting rid of my pos is that it will cost me at least $8000.
I have a f150 2010 4.6 4x4 crew short box..blown 2 seals in the rear diff since new as it shakes really bad if you continue...had to explain to my dealer the TSB l found that was a reboot of the 6 speed trans. It helped but it comes back now and then. I just back off the gas and force it to down shift out of locked 6th doing around 60 km hour on slight grade low throttle... l figure its slack in the trans assembly but l just watched south main fix a car trans mount with similar issues.
If anyone has the fix I'm all ears.
I have an 03 F150 rwd and I have a weird intermittent shake, could drive for 30 mins fine, all of a sudden death shake, keep driving and it goes away after a bit. When it happens my steering gets wonky idk what it is. My ball joints are tight and so are my bearings. Any suggestions?

This issue goes back to 2009 ford f150 4.6 ….I figured out how to fix it because I have done it to my brothers car… the issue is in the 4th gear the rpm are low and it’s a timing chain issue connected because the transmission….I have fixed this in my brothers truck and the mechanics told me it was the tranny.. or the torque converter… got charged 3800 but fixed the whole truck for 800
had vibration in my 2014 f150..it was the brake calipers..you'll feel the heat on the wheels..

So it wasn’t the Torque converter???

What was the problem?
My 2021 2.7L 10-is a complete horror show. It has been in the shop many times to investigate the steering wheel vibration at highway speeds. They have run out of ideas. Seems like the 2.7L/10-speed powertrain is the issue. Ford won't replace the truck and they're done trying to fix it.
That is exactly why I had to sell mine.
Nice truck 🔥
