Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

I've been a solid Shimano guy now for decades. Couldn't ever get me to change. last season, I upgraded and tried a Diawa again. Fist time since I was a teen. Now semi retiring, I started to upgrade my equipment again and find myself gravitating towards the Diawa stuff.

I too am a Shimano dude and have been right after my go with the old Ryobis 40 yrs ago. I bought 2 Tatula 300's for glide/big swimbaiting and they work real well. One is on a MB "Destroyer Black Jack" and the other on a MB "Destroyer Tequila Baccarac". They do a good job though there is better to be had.

My first daiwa after years of shimano was a 19 certate LT5000, then a 14000SW certate, then a 10000 BG MQ Ark.. then a Luvias 2500S.. basically I've swapped over and this selection so far covers many types of fishing for me

I bought the same exact one for my son before Christmas. It’s the cheapest one they make with the TWS (T-wing system) and it’s a great reel. I was a huge shimano fan like you but once I went to the Diawa Tatula line of reels, or the DarkSide, lol I never looked back. Their higher quality reels are awesome Bro. i have been a Shimano guy forever i saw the T wing daiwa came out with they claimed it casted farther and smoother having never liked the small hole line guide of Shimano and most another's .i went and bought a TATULA SV TW 103 XS 8.1:1 I put it on a 7'6 Duckett Silverado 30 pd braid i have flipped with it frogged and a few more. The set up has not let me down .i was so impressed i bought another Tatula 150 p in 5.4:1 with 17 pd Fluorocarbon to be my spinnerbait reel with a alx rod Hammer hvy 7'0 it is the rod i do most of the work with. i still use all my Shimano's but the T wing and the smooth of the Tatula won me over. Great reel next will be the Tatula SV TW 70 in 6.3:1 or a Tatula Elite Pitch/Flip in 7.1:1 smooth buttery, back lashes are a thing of the past great casting very compact size . well worth the money. P.S i also have lews ,kastking, and ardent reels so far Tatula i feel is a better reel.

I currently own several tatula ct reels. They cast decent, but they definitely don't hold up as well as Shimano in the same grade, (curado k). If you tie a long leader or splice your line the knot will catch in the level wind. Spools are on the smaller side.

A few years ago I switched from ABU and Shimano RH reels to All Diawa LH reels and started out with CT HSL and moved up from there with no regrets. The JDM 1516 Zillions are my high end reels and I have nothing bad to say. Maybe it's just me. I have a Diawa Zillion, a few 2020 Tatula SV T103's along with the new Shimano Curado MGL 150 and Scorpion MGL 150. They are all great reels but the Diawa's have a nasty habit. When using spinnerbaits and going for distance, I think I have them dialed in for no backlash. I'm tooling along just fine but with the Diawas, if I forget and overpower the cast, they will blow up in the very beginning of the cast. If I make adjustments to prevent it, I lose distance. I haven't had that problem with those 2 Shimanos. But for skipping, etc, the Diawas are great

Zillion SV TW in your preferred gear ratio for whatever style you want. Personally I’ve never caught as many bass as my zillion sv tw setup for Texas rigged worms paddle tail grubs and jigs man I love that reel . My wrist and arm never get tired all day casts . The Steez is a wicked pissa too but I can’t justify the price and performance over the Zillion which I have 3 different ones and a Tatula , Of course goes without saying Dobyns Rods / Shimano Exprides and Metainium Dc reels my all time mix and match with Daiwas hands down my favorite tackle . Also I will be honest and add the 13 Fishing Envy Black Gen1 worm rod for some reason is amazing I cannot let it go , caught more bass than strippers catch 1s with it . While not as sensitive as my Expride I can tell if I’m on bottom bumpin a stick or rock or log or just the slightest mouth just barely testing or picking up and moving the bait not just hard strikes .Anyways Daiwa baitcasters even the cheaper models are awesome.

I grabbed a couple divine spinnerbaits and am liking them a lot so far. If I had to nitpick, the split rings could be a little beefier, unless they changed them in the revised version you mentioned in this video. About Daiwa, I really enjoy both their rods and reels. And no I am not a shill, I also love Shimano reels and Megabass and Loomis rods

You can't go wrong with either brand, my metanium is my favorite reel, but the tatula elite might be the best bang for the buck. I have the silver tatula sv tw limited edition, that things sweet too.

Exactly. Both great. I have 4 metaniums, 4 zillions, and several Tatulas 100, 200, and a 300. I’m probably more of a Diawa fan but I enjoy all of them.

Awesome vid as always bro, just wanted to add to your comment about the trailer on a spinner bait, just so people have it in their minds it will actually cause your bait to run shallower with most soft plastics. It seems like it would make it sink and fish deeper but this is actually incorrect. So if you wanna fish it slower/shallow throw a trailer on it. Also team Shimano 🤘🎣🤘

I am a shimano guy myself and I chose a tatula SV for my spinnerbaits. I think you picked the perfect reel for that app. The tatulas do some things GREAT and other things just so so, but they are quality reels. Braid to leader applications are a challenge for the T-wing, but straight Fluoro is the deal. \m/ \m/

    • @MrDonohuea

Tie a FG knot and thank me later. it's by far the best leader knot and you won't feel it all through the T-wing

I have Shimano's, Diawa's, Abu-Garcia's, 13-Fishing, Lews, Quantum, and Bass Pro Shop reels. My least favorite is Quantum and Lews. Most companies make a decent reel if you are willing to pay the price. I have learned upgrading bearings will make a big difference. Currently, Shimano and 13-Fishing are my preference based on cost.

First bc reel was a black max, next was a curado k, then a curado DC, then an slx DC, then a metanium and last one was a Daiwa zillion. It's right there with the metanium IMO. Can't go wrong with either brand, there's a learning curve to Daiwa brakes after yrs of shimanos though. Looking forward to a new model aldebaran to complete my lineup but my patience will likely land me a new slx DC 70 OR a Daiwa alphas.
The zillion. Doesn't have the dumb spider on it.
    Cool first impressions vid.

A JDM Zillion, made in Japan, only $230...can't beat that. Got rud of my metaniums to get more zillions. The metaniums are great but the Zillion is something else. Not hating my new Lews custom pro and custom lite either. Great reels with a different feel

Hey Justin, I just came across this video, new subscriber here. I've been a fan of Daiwa since I was a teen in the mid 70's. I'm just the opposite of you with the reels. I'm true to Daiwa, don't get me wrong, I have used other brands on occasion in the past, however, I prefer, and would always go back to the Daiwa. I currently own 12 varieties of the Tatula reel, ie: 100H, CT100H, CT Type-R, SV's, Elite, 200, 300, SV TW 70... I can't say enough about the Tatula, I fell in love with them the first time I held one about 5 years ago. I really like the spider logo's on them, I think it's pretty cool. To each his own on that. I did however buy 1 Shimano reel for a Musky casting rod I own, it's the TranX 400, it is a good reel, it casts just as good as the Daiwa LexaHD 400XS-P that I own. I do like the crank handle and feel of the knob of the Lexa better.
Since you've had a year of ownership on the Tatula, how often have you included it in your I'm taking this combo with me today grab? What are your impressions of it now? Tight Lines!!

I used to be the same way with revo premier reels. I had 38 of them... One day I decided to try a lews tournament pro. Now I have my rigs set up for lews for hard baits and big swimbaits and revos for all soft baits. No regrets in trying something new
